Falling for stairs

Hero let out a startled squeal, fairly loud as they felt their body swaying and legs losing every possible understanding they had of the ground . They felt like they were in math class all over again, where their head alone had an affair with gravity and that was fine because the desk was always there to catch them. Now, Hero wasn't so sure if they liked their connection with gravity at all.

They shut their eyes close tight, so tight that it kind of hurt as they waited for the painful impact.

They felt a touch on their arm not even a second later- soft at first and then firm afterwards, grabbing onto them and yanking them towards whatever it was. They then crashed into something solid and warm?! That was enough of an overload of sensory nerves that made Hero blink their eyes open almost immediately.

They were met with a tantalizing smirk, the same one that would follow them around in their dreams every night.

"You'd never have enough lives if you keep tripping over stairs Hero ."

Hero scoffed, trying to pull away and steady themselves from the warmth that was Villain.

"You're there to catch me anyways, so I know I'll be fine."

Now it was Villain's turn to scoff. "If you think that this is going to happen everytime then you're gravely mistaken. God knows how many times you fall for stairs everyday, if they were a person, you would at least have a lover by now."

Hero finally found it in themselves to whisk their wrist out of Villain's hand, walking back towards whatever class that they had next, a pout playing on their face. "Suit yourself."

After Hero's figure disappeared around the corridor, shy chuckles escaped Villain's lips. Oh how fun it was to rile up Hero and watch them dance.

-

Villain was making their way towards their Geography class when they heard that infuriating squeal all over again. They sighed, body moving before their mind could even think- how many times did this happen already today?! For the first time in their life, Villain found themselves regretting ever having super hearing because they couldn't ignore Hero, even if they wanted to- it's like their brain was subconsciously looking out for that stupid squeal no matter what Villain did, and the moment they heard that squeal, they dropped everything and rushed towards it. Pathetic.

But they couldn't stop. The horrifying image of Hero's head bleeding after it hit the sharp edges of the stairs would make them go everytime and they just couldn't understand why.

Judging from the proximity of the sound, Hero was somewhere right below them. Villain peeked to the side of the stairs just in time to see Hero already toppling over, their body so close to connecting with the jagged edges. Shit!! I won't make it if I run down the stairs. I have to jump.

Villain did just that, landing right in front of Hero, somehow managing to catch them and not topple down themselves. It was a miracle.

Hero was wedged into their chest again, chucking this time. Huh, now that's new.

"I thought you wouldn't come because you somehow knew."

Villain stared at them, head cocked to the side, a quizzical expression on their face, "knew what?"

"Knew that I fell on purpose this time."

Villain almost pushed Hero down the stairs themselves after that.

Almost.

Prompt

"N-no, Villain, please don't." Hero begged even as their voice cracked, eyes desperate.

Villain just stared at them with empty eyes, and their face showed no form of recognition that they had even understood what Hero had said.

"Why do you care?" Villain asked sharply. "I'm a Villain, you have no obligation to care for me Hero."

Hero wanted to reply but they were too lost in the image of Villain that popped up in their head- the Villain who had bright eyes and a sarcastic laugh, who made jokes just to cheer Hero up. That Villain didn't exist anymore.

Villain turned away from Hero, not waiting for an answer. Hero was pulled back to reality when Villain finally took their plunge off the ledge.

"NO-

Stupid but feels so right

Villain is just having a nice time, leaning on a railing and staring up at the stars when he sees a silhouette blur past him and land on a rooftop about three buildings away from him. Instinct kicks in and he immediately hides behind the wall, because getting into some scuffle with another Villain would do him no good.

He hears no noises that sounds like a brawl, so he peeks out slowly from his spot behind the wall and catches sight of a blue costume that looks pale in the moonlight. He squints his eyes, trying to discern the figure further. The silhouette moves a little bit into the moonlight and Villain's eyes widen like baseballs.

Hero?! What the hell is he doing here, at this time of the night? Villain whisks his head back to hide away behind the wall, his brain running a mile per minute. Did he perhaps somehow figure out that I'm here? Am I being tracked? But wait, I'm not doing anything today so there's no reason to track me- Villain spends a good fifteen minutes racking his brain up but no matter what, he can't seem to arrive at an answer for the Hero's appearance. He peeks out again- and he’s still here, great. Furthermore, Hero had settled down nicely on that roof , pulling his blue cape further on himself.

Villain lets out a distressed sigh. He doesn't look like he's here to fight. Villain spends a few more minutes looking at Hero, and for some reason the longer he looks at Hero, the more he realises that Hero just looks incredibly lonely, sitting there all alone, curled up on himself, the pale moonlight making him look paler than usual. And Villain immediately makes a decision- he decides to go and give Hero some company, ignoring the warning bells going off in his head.

-

Hero jumps at the sound of footsteps behind him and looks just about ready to bolt after recognizing Villain's form behind him. Villain can literally see Hero's brain working, and so he stops, raising his hands up in a peaceful motion, hoping that the stubborn Hero understands that he’s not here to fight.

Hero's tense muscles calm down at the sight of Villain's hands raised up, and he sits back down, abandoning his instinct to flee. Villain plops down next to him, not making any other movement. Hero gives him a sideways glance, only to look back at the sky after.

"What are you doing here? Did you track me down?"

Villain tries to answer the question with a level voice, his internal self currently in chaos because that was exactly what he had thought around twenty minutes ago.

We're just so stupid aren't we?

"Don't flatter yourself Hero, I have other things to do."

"Like?"

Villain thinks for a moment and then answers, "like stargazing."

Hero whisks his head sideways so fast, Villain momentarily worries if his neck is okay.

"What?"

"You heard me, stargazing. And rooftops are the best spots for that."

Hero wants to laugh but something in Villain's voice tells him that he's not joking.

"Yeah, the stars look beautiful tonight."

It's silent again for a few minutes before Villain decides to speak up.

"So what is the Hero of justice doing here? Don't you guys have like a strict schedule to stick to? Wake up at 6 am and sleep by 9 pm-

He's cut off by Hero's chuckling. Villain just shrugs his shoulders, waiting for him to finish and give him an answer.

"We do have schedules, the waking up part at least. The sleeping part, not so much."

Villain turns to look at Hero and notices dark bags under his eyes. He turns back and stares at the sky.

" Are you on night duty or something?"

Hero chuckles again and Villain finds himself becoming slightly self conscious. What the hell's so funny?! , he screams internally.

"No, it's just that I can't sleep."

"Insomnia?"

"That too, but mostly nightmares."

Villain's heart tugs with a feeling of familiarity. Nightmares was definitely something that he could relate to. But he never imagined that Hero, the person who was the reason for peace existing in this town would get nightmares, and even more so, stay awake at night because of them. He had just assumed that the very fact that the Hero was fighting for all the good things would let him sleep easily at night. So he was wrong.

Helpless

"V-villain, I'm feeling c-cold."

Villain held civilian's hand tight, as they laid on the ground, world burning around them, a metal rod sticking out of their stomach. Villain almost barfed when they first saw the sight, rushing in to save them, only then realising that it was too late.

They wouldn't even need to be here if Hero had done their job properly.

Anger boiled from the bottom of their gut. But they decided to quell it for now, for civilian's sake.

"Shhhh, it's okay. I'm feeling cold too, it's just... cold outside."

Civilain attempts to laugh but it comes out as a painful groan, "You're... saying that when buildings are burning around us? I'm not... *cough* deaf you know..."

Villain sighs, looking at civilian fondly. Their eyes are closed, so they won't see them but villain would look anyway. Flashes of them having a friendly debate about some random topic in their tiny apartment flashed through villain's head, making their whole body hurt and scream.

Why did it have to be you? You're so brilliant, and you definitely had a bright future ahead but now... that future's disappearing and I can't do anything about it. No matter how much I may want to.

Villain kept turning around, scanning the scene, looking for an ambulance or any health personnel but no people were in sight. Except for the dead ones. They were itching to go and drag a health worker here if they had to, but they couldn't just leave civilian in this condition. What were the heroes doing?!

Villain felt helpless and they hated it.

"V-villain, are y-you here?"

Villain immediately focuses all of their attention back on civilian. "Of course I'm here, where else would I go?" They held civilian's hand tighter for emphasis but they didn't get any response. Their heart sank.

"Oh, okay. I just can't... feel a-nything anymore."

Villain tried their best not to cry. Not now.

"Look up at the sky, it looks so beautiful today." Villain tried to sound calm and happy, but they think it came out as something strained and croaky.

Civilian strains to open their eyes. Villain's heart falls further into whatever abyss that was now swallowing them whole.

"I- can't... I can't see."

Tears run down Civilian's face and that was the final straw. Villain's hands gently wipe away those tears, while fresh tears steadily glided down their own cheek.

"I'll describe it to you then- it looks just like your eyes when you wake up. You know that your eyes change colour when they're exposed to sunlight right? That's beautiful too of course-

Civilian puts the last of their strength squeezing Villain's hand. Tight. Villain looks down at them now, their eyes barely open, but still open.

"You're beautiful too *wheeze* Villain."

Their hand goes limp in villain's hand.

No no no no no-

"Civilian, hey... hey! Wake up, come on. I'll go look for an ambulance right now, I'll drag the hero here if I have to-

Civilian didn't open their eyes again.

Villain finally let themselves sob. It sounded pained. Dreadful. Hopeless. They didn't think they could even make such a sound.

It seems like their sounds of agony had attracted someone else to the scene.

"Villain, what are you-

Hero shuts up immediately after seeing Civilian's lifeless body behind Villain.

Thief

Hero reluctantly blinked their eyes open. Still half asleep, they frowned against what had to be the first light of dawn creeping in through a small gap between the curtains.

Why would they be awake at-

A glimpse at the alarm clock on their bedside table informed them that it was 6:18 am. Still so early.

Way too early to even consider getting up.

They tried and almost succeeded to drift off to sleep again, until the rustling of fabric and a kick to their leg made falling back asleep impossible.

Ugh, waking someone up this early on a Sunday should be against the law…

With a soft groan, Hero threw a look over their shoulder at Villain who kept thrashing around like a little kid on their side of the bed.

By the time Hero had fully turned around to check if their partner was having a nightmare, all the annoyance had melted away already, leaving only concern and worry.

But luckily, it didn’t seem like Villain was having a really bad dream. Their face did show a tiny little frown, yet not a thoroughly troubled expression.

“Hero… hero…”

“Huh?”

Villain’s lips moved, mumbling something incomprehensible under their breath. Hero stared at them, mesmerised. Any prospect of sleep was now gone from Hero’s mind, evaporated at the sight of their partner’s lovely mouth.

Villain shifted, pulling at the blanket.

"They're stealing my fries, dosomethingaboutit"

It took a moment for Hero to process what Villain had just said. When everything clicked in their head, they almost burst out laughing and quickly had to hide their face in their pillow to stifle the sound of their giggling. Hero didn't want to make too much noise and accidently wake Villain up.

Seeing their partner dream about stolen food was somehow so damn adorable, the urge to tease them was nearly irresistible.

"Who's stealing your fries baby? I'll make sure to keep an eye out for them during my patrols."

Of course Villain didn't answer, caught up as they were in that dream of theirs and squirming further underneath the blanket.

A gentle touch from Hero onto their shoulder instantly soothed them and tracing small circles seemed to help Villain sleep more calmly.

Hero smiled at them fondly.

"If you keep thrashing around like that, you'll be exhausted when you wake up, and... we'll never be able to catch that fries thief.", they whispered, voice low and breathy.

That seemed to have satisfied Villain's subconscious, as they slowly moved towards them, curling up against Hero’s chest.

A pleasant warmth spread through their entire body as Hero kissed the top of Villain’s head, inhaled the scent of their partner’s favourite shampoo, and listened to the sound of their breathing.

Hero sighed contentedly.

Their smile at that moment could have rivalled the stars, as they put an arm around their lover and fell peacefully back asleep.

I had the loveliest time collaborating with @kaiwewi to write this and give you guys some fluff for a change xD Their writing style is amazing and it's such an honour <3 Please do check out their page for some great writing you all:)

four letters

Tick. Tock.

Tick. Tock.

I don't think I've ever noticed the hands of my wall clock this much in my entire life. I open my eyes and see them on the wall, and when I close my eyes they're strangling my neck.

I've been kidnapped by Time, kept within its infinite loops, a captive with no voice— except for these words.

"I'd even love to be kidnapped by villain, anything to get me out of Time's hands—

Hero hears a sound that sounds like a woodpecker pecking into a tree's bark. She whips her head around to find villain’s face wedged on the glass, a lopsided grin smashed to the window. Hero jumps off her bed and is there beside the window in a second, her hands trembling as she tries to unlock the window and laugh at the same time.

Villain jumps into hero’s arms as soon as she opens the window, a visible pout on their face now as hero starts to laugh out loud, the full-blown-kind-of-laughter. But again, villain had always had a thing for hero’s laughter. And in a moment, their heart is a circus and their mind a record player, playing hero's voice on loop. They can't even stay mad at her when she does this.

Hero takes her sweet time and finally looks up at villain, the height difference hitting all the good spots for hero at the moment. It's during the morning, when she's trying to grab that silly cereal box from the top shelf, standing on tip toes and still unable to reach it, until villain finally comes to the rescue and picks it up for her.

"Heyy~" she cooes and villain's heart begs for a break.

"Hi my darling. I hope you've enjoyed your full plate of laughter at my plight."

Hero thinks back to villain's face smashed on the window and a small smile finds its way back to her lips again, like how a wave always finds its way back to the shore. Villain watches the scene— a mere captive in a moment of time.

"I'm sorry," hero’s guilty half speaks out. This transition— it always catches villain off-guard. Everytime.

Villain pulls themselves closer to hero— if that's even possible, their hands on either side of hero’s cheek. Hero’s eyes dart around, as if she knows what's coming and she's looking at everything else but villain's eyes.

Villain wants to change that. And what better way than to coax hero into it?

Their hands slowly move up into hero’s hair, playing with her locks and gently scratching her scalp. Hero relaxes into their arms— the reaction almost instant that it makes villain suck in a shaky breath. They've never felt so powerful even in a battle field, even when their veins burn with power. But villain knows this is another kind of power all together— something they've read about many times in the books that hero loves stocking up in her bookshelves. They read about it when hero’s fast asleep in their arms, their steady heart grounding them to reality. It has always been something that they never knew how to feel.

Perhaps I'm feeling it now, villain thinks. It definitely felt like what was printed on those pages. They at least hoped so.

With hero, its always friendly and then before villain even realises it, they're falling. Into intimacy. Into a revolution that pulls them apart from the inside.

Feelings. Emotions. And then that 'something' that they read in those books.

All of them start to assemble underneath their skin; like an army ready for war.

But that's when villain meets hero’s eyes and she's looking at them, honest. Vulnerable. Not running away.

Seems like the coaxing worked while I was having an internal crisis. How long has she even been looking at me?!

But hero’s not bothered, her entire being invested in maintaining that eye contact.

Villain clears their head and looks once again. In her eyes, they see little things, and they all add up, one by one, culminating together to form that one four letter word, that special something.

"It's alright Love," a trick, one that villain decided to steal from a book right then. They wanted to test it, to see how that four letter word felt rolling off their tongue.

They watch again, caught in a trance as hero’s eyes become wide, surprise and happiness and many other feelings filling them up in a matter of seconds that villain can't keep up. So they just stare, bewildered.

And then hero laughs and the magic is over, like Cinderella at midnight.

"Why in the world do you look so surprised?!" Hero jabs a finger at their chest, trying to pout but failing immensely.

Laughter pulls itself out of villain’s lips, and they think that this is just fine. This is their twist, their 'something'. Their own four letters that they're going to build up together.

Hello everyone!! Hope you all remember me xd I'm sorry for disappearing off the face of the earth for a while, I had to move for uni and I'm learning to live alone for the first time so it's been quite a ride. I've missed writing dearly and this dear community of you all, so just wanted to thank you for being patient and for the support ^^ Hope you enjoyed this :)

sunflowers, breaking clichĂŠs and faraway lovers

Hero trudges back home, her foot kicking up some mud on this lonely strip of road. She can't decide if she's happy or frustrated that nothing ever happens where she lives, not even villains, as if they don't find this place appealing enough to even visit.

She decides, after a moment, that maybe it's both. She's both happy that she doesn't have to deal with villains here, that this is the one constant place that she has in her life, and she's also a little frustrated that nothing ever happens here, and everywhere you see are familiar faces. She kind of wishes her town had the tradition to were masks like people in Jaoanese festivals do, so that it would at least bring some novelty into this place. Or she wishes that she can spot a new face somewhere, but the only face she wants to see right now is that of her partner's.

The wind blows to the left, and she turns to look. That's the path that leads to the sunflower field, one of her all time favourite places. She takes out her phone as the wind pushes her further to the field, holding the device in front of her face, trying to get a nice angle. Click. She opens villain’s chat and hits the send button, with a yellow heart emoji attached to the picture. She then sits down at the edge of the field, legs dangling, eyes taking in the spectacular view in front of her. This is probably the only place I'll never get tired of, even if it's the same ten years from now, she thinks.

Hero’s phone vibrates in her pocket, and she pulls it out to see a message from villain. She opens the chat — smiling softly.

V: This looks so beautiful!! Is this the sunflower field that you always talk about? Thank you for the picture baby💛

Hero takes a moment to swoon. She loves it when villain calls her baby, and she has a feeling that they know that too.

H: Yes it is, one of my favourite places ever! I wish I could show this to you someday.

There it is, hero thinks. This ache that mixes up with the bubbly feelings in her chest because her lover lives in an entirely different continent away from her and there's nothing either of them can do about it for now. It's this sizzling agony that's there right under her skin, keeping her awake at night sometimes.

V: That sounds lovely. I would love to see it.

And then hero’s smiling, grinning. So much that her cheeks start to hurt and those blue feelings inside her chest slowly melt away, leaving her with this happy, giddy haze. Somewhere inside, the logical part of her speaks — what is even happening ?

Hero ignores that and just stares at the wide expanse of the field in front of her, beautifully painted by the sun setting on the horizon behind. She lets her mind wander to villain, her lover whom she's never met but knows — because one doesn't have to meet to know someone right? Of course hero aches to meet them, just like all the lovers in ancient texts do. She's no different. So she tries to meet them in her imagination at least- one hand in their soft, brown hair, while the other cups their cheek, tender with that natural blush that drives her crazy; and then villain's hands are in her hair, tangling her long back strands but she can't find it in herself to care one bit —

Her phone buzzes again and hero’s pulled out of that soft world in her mind, back to the real one. Her eyes take in her surroundings once again, noticing the changes. The sky is inky blue, like deep ocean waters and the sun is nowhere to be seen . The sunflowers that were all looking at the sun like dedicated devotees, have now turned to look at their loved ones next to them instead, and settle in their arms for the night. Hero looks at her phone, her mind working in two angles — one thinking about this fact that she read about sunflowers somewhere while the other focuses on villain’s chat box.

V: You'll have to fight supervillain later this evening right?

Hero groans as she remembers her pressing duties to this city — fighting supervillains, protecting the civilians, being the symbol of justice. It's only in the short time that she spends with villain — in their chatbox, occasional phone calls, when she thinks of villain, that she feels like a normal twenty something, just living her life and falling in love with someone breathtakingly amazing.

H: You're always more updated about my schedule than I am xD But yeah, I have to.

Hero imagines villain’s mouth, unable to decide between their usual smirk or rare soft smiles. She wonders what expression they're wearing right now.

V: Of course I am. That's one thing technology is good for.

Hero chuckles, simply happy that villain even bothers to keep track of all of this.

V: Fight safely and vigilantly okay? Trust your gut feelings, they're always valid. Your feelings are always valid.

Hero clutches her phone tight in her hand, trying to bury her face into her own arms. Her heart performs this dance everytime villain does stuff like this, and she never knows how to handle it.

H: Thank you my love❤ I'm a little nervous of course, but I think I'll be okay. I can do this.

Hero knows there's no point in putting up a front or lying to villain. They always know somehow. And hero thinks that she doesn't want to lie — she's always putting up a front for the world, the people, her opponents. So she wants at least this one person in the entire world to know who she really is, in all her silly, anxious and raw glory.

V: You'll be fine baby. You're an amazing fighter and I believe in you.

Okay, that's it. Hero feels like her entire body is on fire and she forces herself to look away from the phone screen at the field in front of her so that her fingers don't start doing this embarrassing keysmash that people generally seem to do when they're embarrassed. Does she want to do that? She thinks she'd rather avoid it. Or at least try to.

That's when her mind supplies that fact about sunflowers that it was trying to remember. When the sun is not visible, the sunflowers turn towards one another, as if the sun is just a fever dream that is abandoned as soon as it dips below the horizon, and the only real things that exist in the world are the flowers themselves and their partners who exist right beside them. Hero watches as the wind gently coaxes them, one flower falling into another and vice versa, as they hold each other and dance while the first stars form constellations in the sky. Hero thinks how beautiful this is, that there is a whole universe beyond clichés, that a sunflower doesn't have to achingly wait for a sun that will never belong to it, but instead the world is for its taking as it falls in love with the flower next to it — one that will return its feelings.

And all of a sudden, hero is overwhelmed by this weird emotion in her chest. She can't name it, she's always been bad with names. But sitting here and looking at these sunflowers breaking clichĂŠs makes her heart soar for some inexplicable reason. It's like nature is telling her that nothing else matters other than feelings that are respected and returned.

She opens villain's chat and starts typing in everything that she's realised in the past minute with increased fervour, afraid that all of these thoughts would just up and disappear into a puff of nothing because nothing is really everlasting — except this one moment. And she plans to make the best of it. She types the last letter, then attaches a close-up picture of two sunflowers with tangled petals facing one another and hits send.

Villain takes a minute to reply, but it brings the brightest smiles to hero's face regardless.

V: I don't know if you even realise this, but I just love the way you fucking think ❤ The sunflowers seem like they could pass for humans themselves don't they? Because I just find this whole thing alarmingly human — the way we have our hearts on our sleeves when we know no one else is looking, for that one person.

Hero sighs happily, she didn't think feeling understood could feel this liberating. It's definitely one of those feelings that people can get high on , she thinks. Damn, she thinks she's definitely getting high on this herself.

H: Thank you love, I love the way you think too! And I do agree, the sunflowers are humans xD (plus ten heart emojis).

A few more minutes go by and hero receives another message from villain with this attached picture:

there's a hand (hero guesses it's villain’s hand) holding two violet flowers together (so they look like they're hugging) with this caption —

I had to chase away two ducks for this picture, because these flowers were apparently their evening snack. How cool is that?

And hero’s full blown laughing now, the clutching-your-stomach kind of laughing and she hopes that the laughing emoji on her phone would do this justice. Probably not.

—

Here's the live coverage of Hero vs Supervillain-

The newsreader reads live from the venue and villain’s eyes refuse to leave the tv screen for even a single moment. They watch as their hero holds her ground against such a powerful foe and villain’s heart fills up to the brim with a mix of fondness and pride. They don't feel the rest of the evening pass by, as they sit and watch the entire live coverage without as much as even getting up.

Hero emerges victorious, and she has a few surface injuries here and there, some nasty looking gashes but she's standing there and she's alive and she's okay and villain finally lets out a breath that they didn't even know they were holding.

That's their strong, sweet and kind hero and villain can't be happier to call her their girlfriend.

Hellooo there lovely people!! I know it's been a long while since I posted (that's because life is pretty hectic rn) but I finally found some time to write (and procrastinate, but that's the usual lol). So what's new is that I've given you all some female rep, because I just realised that I haven't really written much female mc content. So I hope you all enjoyed reading this, and thank you for your support as always - means a lot<3

Of Monsters And Mondays

tw: family issues, implied abuse, arson, Christian church

Sam loved Mondays.

Monday was hands down the best day of the week. For the simple reason that it wasn’t Sunday anymore and it wouldn’t be Sunday again for a while.

He wished today was Monday. He wouldn’t be here if it was.

But no, it just had to be Sunday morning, 9 o’clock.

Ah fuck, how he despised this hellhole! Every damn week. Again and again. It hadn't changed even a bit since last Sunday, or the one before that, or probably any other Sunday since he'd been baptised here.

Samuel, that's what they'd named him. God hears.

Ironic, wasn’t it? Fast forward 16 long years and God still hadn't ever heard any of his prayers. Or maybe he had and just didn’t care enough to answer any of them. Whatever, made no difference.

Same old place,

same old bullshit.

His gaze travelled up the cracks in the ancient wall, like dead riverbeds carved into the land during a drought, then it flickered past the equally dried up looking image of a crucified Jesus in the stained-glass window. A little further up, he locked eyes with one of the gargoyles lurking on the edge of the roof. Always waiting. Always watching. Ready to pounce the second he turned his back on it.

Same old place,

same old bullshit,

same old monsters.

A horrible dread settled in his stomach, much too familiar and as heavy as the massive wooden door creaking open in front of him. The shadows behind it seemed a little too eager to swallow him. Like the greedy maw that door had turned into in one of his nightmares, where the building had come to live so it could devour him for real.

Not that the place wasn't plenty horrible as it was. He hadn't even set a foot in there and yet he already couldn't breathe. This day was going to suck.

If only he could make himself throw up on demand, then he'd already be puking his guts out all over that pretentious angel statue next to the main gate. Maybe then his mother would have mercy for once, or at least send him home to reflect on what he had done.

Yeah, right! Fat chance.

He cast his mother another pleading look, even when he already knew it would be hopeless.

And of course it was. It always was.

Her cold eyes narrowed, staring daggers at him. The accusation she'd left unspoken rang louder in his ears than the deafening stroke of the bell summoning the churchgoers to worship.

He might have almost been grateful she didn't bring any of it up again. Almost. Because even though she hadn't said anything in a while, she also hadn't smiled at him even once ever since she'd learned the whole truth about him.

What had he been thinking, confiding in her in the first place? He should have known better.

Now something like scorn marked her features every time she laid eyes on him. Disappointment. Disgust. Or perhaps it was just plain disregard for him as a person? Maybe she just didn't think him her son anymore. Maybe all he was to her now was a parental duty left to fulfil, while she awaited the day she could finally erase his presence from her life.

Once upon a secret shared, she may have been the warmth of a summer day, but now, with the deep lines of that scowl on her stony face, she might as well be one of the gargoyles.

And here he’d thought he was supposed to be the monster.

He’d been told he was the one who needed to pray for forgiveness. He was the one who needed to atone for his sins. He was the one who needed fixing. According to all of them, including his own mother, the monster was him.

And perhaps there was some truth to it. Perhaps it was in his nature. It would make sense. For what else could he possibly turn out to be, having a monster for a mother?

But enough of that. He wasn’t going to argue the point today. Nor ever again. Honestly, what good had appealing to his mother’s loving kindness done him so far? She probably didn’t even possess any.

An impatient jerk of her chin towards the open door told him all he needed to know.

Yeah, fuck this. Diplomacy could officially go screw itself!

Sighing deeply, he lowered his eyes, let his shoulders droop and obediently entered the church, for what he’d make sure would be his last Sunday service.

Tonight, he’d take matters into his own hands.

Tonight, he’d burn this godforsaken place down.

Tonight, he’d become the monster they insisted he was.

Come dawn, he’d finally be free. Reborn again a higher being, rising, a phoenix from the ashes of what had been his personal hell in a life he’d leave behind tomorrow.

Things were about to change drastically.

A new day.

A new week.

A new life.

Yet one thing would always remain the same.

Sam loved Mondays.

BEAUTIFUL PERSON AWARD! Once you are given this award, you can paste it in the asks of some people who deserve it. If you break the chain nothing happens, but it's sweet to know someone thinks you’re beautiful inside and out. No pressure though! 💕

Awww thank you so much Sun, you are such a wonderful person too!! Super friendly and bright just like the sunflower and a gardening/plants enthusiast (which is amazing btw) 🥺❤ Stuff like this makes me smile ^^

reblogging for the diff timezones :)

history.

A tale that remains unchanged, no matter how many times it is retold.

Their hands are soft- I got to feel them when they grabbed my hand and pulled me into an alleyway, shielding me from oncoming bullets. Having not expected that at all, it took a few moments for me to come out of that headspace, as I stood there- dazed, staring at their back as their hand that held mine a moment ago, let go to grab their gun from their belt and point the weapon at our pursuers. My brain understood why they had to let go, but my heart refused to understand and kept yearning for that touch again and again- like a stubborn child who wanted to eat more ice cream and wouldn't listen to reason. The minutes passed by as I fought to keep my brain and heart at bay while trying to stay connected to reality because we still weren't safe. Move, I reminded my legs and held onto their silhouette with my eyes. Being a human was hard.

By the time we managed to outrun our pursuers, I was gasping, sweaty palm clutching my shirt- right above my heart, as if I'm pushing it to stay inside and not fall out of my mouth. Eyes on the ground and frantic heartbeats in my ear, I failed to register anything else. I felt a light touch to the top of my head and managed to look up from my bent-over-the-knees posture, just in time to see their hand falling from its spot on my hair a few seconds ago. My heart fluttered. And then our eyes met, their worried gaze trained on my face. I swallowed, but my throat still felt dry. I didn't like it when people worried about me, it made me feel guilty. So, I smiled like I always do when I wanted to hide something- when I wasn't ready to tell them why I might have looked like a flustered mess then. They gave up after a few seconds and began to scout our surroundings. I heaved a sigh, relieved, and tried to do a lot of silly things. I tried to tell myself that I was okay, when I was not (how could I be?). Even though that touch lasted for mere seconds, I could still feel the embers of the fire that it had sparked in my chest and now it threatened to burn me inside out. So no, I was not okay. Definitely not.

A bit more of walking and we were finally home!! It's not much- a small, rundown apartment at the edge of town but it was something. The metal stairs gave a *creak* as they stepped on it to climb up, and I was about to follow when a black cat came out of nowhere and climbed up before me. I landed on the ground with an embarrassing *shriek*, my backside aching. Sounds of their laughter echoed in my ears. I looked up at them, a not-so-serious frown playing on my lips because I just couldn't be mad at them when they laughed like that- like a carefree child who had nothing to worry about in life. I sighed and gave in to their smile but then the black cat stared at me, as if to challenge me and rubbed its fur against their leg. Their attention was completely on the cat now (unfortunate for me), as they gently stroked its fur, surprised and pleased when it purred against their blue jeans. Come on, you can't be jealous of a cat, you can't be jealous of a damn cat! You just can't-

But now, finally, they're sitting right in front of me, within the confines of our single bed, legs crossed messily, and all my mind can think of is that they're so close, so close, that if I reach out my hand, I can touch them. They lean towards me to reach for the blanket, their fingers brushing against mine and that fire which I felt earlier in the day was back now, and it was angry- ready to burn me whole.

They're staring outside our bedside window, looking at the city lights far away, oblivious of the plight I'm in, while I can't bring myself to look at anything else but their eyes. They must have noticed of course- as inquisitive as they are, so they turn over to look at me and all my breaths and words just die in my throat as I realise all over again, just how much I adore those blue eyes. They remind me of a sky, where the birds soar free; of freedom.

"What is it?" They ask in a teasing tone, smiling softly but I can't answer. I can't do anything. I can only look at them. Their brows furrow slightly in concern, and they move closer, those lovely soft hands brushing against mine again. But they don't stop with that alone this time. Their fingers become curious as they start exploring my hand, dragging their index over my palm, down to my fingers, feeling them over, digit by digit and I can feel myself going crazy.

Before I know it, my hand is entirely in theirs and they're so close that I can feel their warm breath fanning over my neck. My mind goes empty but my body is set ablaze, and I think that maybe, I've stopped breathing entirely, if only for that moment. Noticing my lack of response, their hands become braver, their right one tangled with mine while their left one rises up to cup my cheek with the gentlest of touches that makes me feel so giddy.

I hear them call my name, but it feels like it's coming from the bottom of a well; so far away. Panicked, my hand reaches out towards that voice, only to be caught by theirs. I stop as I'm held in place by blue eyes; I can't escape. They're searching my face, my entire being for an answer, their soft touches coaxing me to relax and give in. I finally come out of my head, and it feels as if I'm being born again as I learn how to breathe, how to move and how to speak within the safe haven of their touch. And I don't want it any other way.

"You're beautiful", I breathe, leaning into their palm. Their lips part to let out a small laugh and my ears rejoice. "How can you say that with a straight face?!" they say fondly, as if it's something they wouldn't mind listening to everyday, my mind beginning to dream about that very scenario. Meanwhile, their lips inch closer and I don't notice until they're suddenly too close and touching mine.

And the rest is history.

Hello all of you lovely people!! Yes, I know it's been a while since I posted- been trying to find some inspiration and fight off procrastination. So here is this long piece to make up for that (hopefully xD) - I tried first person narrative this time and I don't really do this style a lot, so I hope this is satisfactory for you all to read and enjoy ^^ (also this can be read from either hero/villain/ or literally any of your fav character's pov- you decide <3)

When you get this, feel free to respond with five things that make you happy~! Then if you're up for it, send this to the last ten people in your notifications anonymously. You never know who might benefit from spreading positivity~! (No pressure though! :D)

1. My family and friends: they're all a part of my little bubble called life and I'm so glad to have them<333 (they may not be that many people, but they're still precious^^)

2. My girlfriend: definitely one of the best situations that life had sprung on me was meeting them^^ Being a hopeless romantic, and having a history of one sided crushes, giving up was more easier than I thought but then I met them and they make me feel like this starry eyed child again, who's super excited about love. I feel like we help each other grow in our own ways and it's the best feeling really- I feel more myself than I ever am everytime I'm with them and I like myself a little better when I see myself through their eyes ❤🥰 They're one of the loveliest humans I've ever met <3 (i swear that when they felt the same way about me I was like, "is this really happening?" 😳)

3. Stories: no matter in which form they come- art, books, TV shows and movies, anime; I love them all. Stories and their characters make everyday life more fun and fulfilling for me.

4. Writing: it's more than a craft- a part of me by now. I feel like even if nothing else goes right, as long as I keep writing, I'll have something only I can do and it's a wonderful feeling- to be able to create stories and to have people who enjoy reading them ^^ (that's all of you amazing people!!)

5. Animals/my pet dog: well he's definitely included in the "family" section, but I thought I'd mention this separately as well because he's so precious and I love him so much<333 (for those who are wondering, his name is Bruno and he's a pug💕) Animals in general are also very fun for me:)

The conflict and emotions in this one, lovely 🥺❤

Beautiful Lies

“It pains me to see my hero that way.” The villain said after a moment of silence.

And, oh god, didn’t that sound too soft? Too sad? So unlike the venomous words that usually dripped from the villain’s lips, burning themselves into the hero’s mind as if they were acid.

This seemed so different, so alien.

A flawless impression of sincere concern. Almost like the villain had actually meant it. Oh, it would have been so easy to believe those words. So tempting to trust a voice like the promise of a comforting embrace, a soothing touch.

Such beautiful lies,

but lies nonetheless.

This was wrong.

“I’m not yours!” The hero shot back, clutching at the anger churning up searing hot inside of them like it was their one and only lifeline. At least it was far more welcome than any of the other emotions currently coursing through them.

They didn’t want to have to deal with the villain right now.

They didn’t want this conversation.

They didn’t want these feelings.

All of this was so very wrong!

Years of experience in the field and a long acquaintance with the other had taught the hero better than to foolishly fall for any of that.

And yet nothing could have prepared them for how the villain’s face twisted into that pitiful frown they were now wearing. For how the villain’s hand flew to their own chest, clawed at the fabric of their shirt. How their voice cracked when they spoke.

“In my heart, we’ve always been each other’s.”

Oh, dear.

The hero had been mistaken, hadn’t they?

With all that burning fury so suddenly forgotten, an icy shiver crept down their spine as they recognised the villain’s words for what they truly were.

Not a beautiful lie,

but an ugly truth.

how to kiss on paper advice y'all <333

Ok but seriously, the way you write kissing scenes is amazing. Do you have any writing advice on writing intimate moments between two characters (keeping it pg-13)? I feel like my own writing always feels stale when I get to those parts.

you’re so sweet, thank you! kissing actually used to be the hardest thing for me to write, and I think it was because I rushed too quickly to the “big” or “exciting” moments, and then I ran out of things to write about. the most important thing I learned was to slow down when writing intimate moments, maybe even slower than you originally think you need to.

so say you’re writing a kiss!! at first you might want to begin the moment when their lips first meet. but I raise you:

do they look each other in the eyes first? and oh is this the first time they’ve ever made eye contact up so close? what new things might they notice, a stray eyelash or creases in the other’s skin from faded smile lines?

can they feel each other’s breathing? is it faster than normal, more irregular? when was the last time they felt someone’s breathing on their skin this way?

do they touch each other before they kiss? on the face maybe? what does their skin feel like underneath their fingertips? is it warm? are they blushing? maybe they touch on the shoulder, or on the arm, curling their fingers into the fabric of their sweater? or maybe they keep their hands shoved in their lap, too nervous to touch—will this made the kiss clumsier, more unsteady?

do they watch the other’s eyes flutter closed? squeeze shut? are their lips dry? do they look soft?

what are they thinking about when they lean in? is their heart pounding? are their palms sweaty? or are they full of longing and relief because they’ve wanted this for so long and it’s finally happening and they just—surge toward each other and finally finally find each other’s mouths?

and then what?

as I’m writing intimate moments, I usually try to keep a balance between what’s physically happening—a brush of lips over the cheek—and what’s internally happening—oh god oh god they’re treating me so gently I might break, etc etc. of course this is only one style of writing but it helped make kissing scenes fun for me! im sorry this reply was so long but I hope it was helpful at least a little bit 💕💕💕

I loved them like I loved the sky- with starry eyes, real smiles and a beating heart.

One.

Hellooo all of you lovely people!! So, I've been thinking about writing short stuff like this for a while (fun fact: I actually used to write more spontaneously, like just write out my thoughts/random pieces of writing that are born from them before I came here) And I can't believe how much this blog and all of you lovely people have helped me grow with all of your amazing love and support (and I've been having so much fun with storytelling here thanks to you all) so this is just me trying to live up to all of that love by giving you guys some new style and content to keep reading <3333 (I know it's not heroxvillain, but the bonus is you're always welcome to imagine these lines with whomsoever you wish to do so, so I hope you all will enjoy this regardless ^^) This style would also help me post more often (when story building becomes a bit too much) so yaaay<3

Once again, thank you all so much for 300 followers!!! I love you all❤

Note: As far as I'm aware among my mutuals, @literally-just-kirby also writes some amazing creative writing content!! It's not heroxvillain (so the stuff I said above applies to this as well), but their writing is such a treat to read!! So please check those out^^ (also if there's anyone else among my mutuals or followers or people I haven't met yet who writes/is planning to write some creative writing content that is not primarily heroxvillain, please feel free to tag them /tag yourselves in the comments below)

The main goal of writeblr on the whole is to promote writing so let's give some love to all the different kinds of writing out there (because words are awesome 🤚💖)

The alarm system blared, the pitch-black darkness of the base interrupted by flashes of red as the villain ran down another corridor with the hero in tow.

The villain followed their mental map of the facility, which they had carefully memorized in preparation for this rescue mission, so that they quickly turned each corner without so much as a second thought.

Which meant they were all the more surprised when they encountered a dead-end.

The villain stopped dead in their tracks.

Then, the hero crashed into them, still dazed from captivity, and gasped upon noticing the wall blocking their exit route. They frantically pulled against the villain’s grip on their arm, trying to scramble backward, but the villain knew they didn’t have enough time to retrace their path. Their pursuers were gaining on them, sounding closer by the second.

The villain pulled them towards a door of what looked like a supply closet, rattling the handle and throwing it open, before hastily shoving the hero inside. The hero hit the back wall with a groan, but, to the villain’s relief, the sound was drowned out by the rhythmic screech of the alarm.

The villain rushed into the small space immediately after, not even sparing a glance at the hero before turning to shut the door behind them. Then they placed their ear to the door, listening for their pursuers, praying that they won’t think to check the hallway with a dead-end.

However, they weren’t able to focus on the sounds outside because of the increasingly distracting noises being made by the hero.

“Goddammit, hero,” the villain hissed. “Be quiet. Are you trying to get us caught?!”

“N-no! I..I c-can’t breathe!”

The villain whirled, squinting as their eyes adjusted to see the hero’s shadowed form shake in fear, hand clamped against their mouth as they choked back sobs.

The villain blinked. “Oh god, you’re panicking.”

The hero shook their head, stumbling back and pressing themselves flat against the wall, as far away from the villain as they could - which due to the cramped closet space wasn’t very far. “You- you... I can’t-“

“You’ve gotta be kidding me. I’m trying to rescue you!” The villain groaned. “Now isn’t the time for this!”

“Shut... shut up!”

The villain sighed.

The hero was shaking like mad, their breathing coming up shorter and shorter, tears welled up in their eyes - they looked seconds away from a complete breakdown.

The villain swallowed, taking a small step forward. “Hero, you have to pull yourself together, or you’re going to get us both captured.”

“I’m trying!”

The villain stared and shook their head in exasperation. They placed their hands on the hero’s shoulders, pulling them away from the wall, and resisted the urge to shake them.

The hero flinched back in their grasp, gasping. “W-what are you—“

“I’m going to hold you now, okay?”

Startled, the hero dropped the hand covering their mouth. They pulled their tear-filled gaze up to peer the vllain in the eye. After a moment, they closed their eyes and managed a slight nod.

The villain carefully pulled the hero against their chest, feeling their breath catch as they wrapped their arms around them; one hand on their back and the other cupping their neck. They held tight as they lowered them both down, settling so that they were kneeling, tangled together on the floor.

The hero clutched to them as they started sobbing again, but for a completely different reason.

The villain stiffened, then cleared their throat uncomfortably. “Uh, okay- just- just listen to my voice. Okay?” they said, rubbing circles in their back in a way they hoped was soothing. “Um- take some deep breaths.”

They sat there for a few minutes, pressed together, the villain whispering soft reassurances as they ran their fingers through the hero’s hair; promising them that it’s over, that they’ll make it out, that everything will be alright.

The hero sniffled, their racking sobs dying down as they were slowly lulled into a sense of comfort by the villain. They rode out what the villain hoped was the final wave of tears, and the villain couldn’t help but find themselves comfortable as well, before they remembered the imminent danger nearby.

The villain’s head snapped up.

Footsteps began approaching the hallway outside. The hero was still upset, the noise drawing too much attention. They didn’t have enough time—

The hero relaxed, exhaling a long, shaky breath, their body still quivering slightly as they slumped, exhausted, against the villain.

Completely quiet, but for a few small sniffles.

The villain still held their breath, their hold tightening around the hero, their head pressed firm to their chest, with the villain’s fingers clumped in their hair.

The footsteps paused, standing outside the corridor for what felt like hours, before finally moving on.

The villain exhaled in relief, but didn’t relinquish their grip.

They were safe, for the moment.

POWERLESS

The villain noticed that, for whatever reason, the hero was completely off their game. As they fought, their blows had no weight to them, their movements were sloppy, and their blocks could practically be broken by a short gust of wind. And then, in a bizarrely uncharacteristic display of behavior - the hero stole the villain’s usual move when a fight wasn’t going their way - they attempted to flee.

They didn’t get far before the villain tackled them down, straddling the hero’s thighs and pressing their wrists against the ground by their head. They sneered as the hero feebly struggled in their grip.

“So, my supposed ‘nemesis’ is this easy to take down?” The villain scoffed, leaning down close to the hero’s face. “How pathetic.”

It didn’t feel earned. The hero wasn’t usually this weak - they could normally bat the villain yards away like they were merely swatting a fly... but now, in their current state, even a fly could probably best them.

Something was wrong.

“Ugh! LET GO OF ME, ASSHOLE!“ The hero shrieked, squirming desperately underneath the weight of the villain. “Get the FUCK OFF!”

The villain narrowed their eyes, peering down at them, and then paused. Staring at their neck, they noticed an odd mark... a small puncture wound, like the hero’s skin was pierced by something... Oh, shit. They blinked, peering closer. It was some kind of injection... but of what? They removed a hand pinning one of the hero’s arms, because it’s not like they could do anything with it anyway, and held it in front of the hero’s face.

“How many fingers am I holding up?”

“Huh?” The hero blinked up at them, pausing their thrashing at the sound of the villain’s concerned tone. Then, they huffed, rolling their eyes. “Very funny.”

“What?”

“Wait...” The hero’s brow furrowed. “You mean you don’t know? But it was practically broadcast to all of my-“

The hero was cut off by the sound of a super-weapon charging up, and when they both looked to the side they were greeted by a comically large barrel of a gun.

“Step aside, villain.” Another one of the hero’s enemies called out, a wide smirk spreading on their face as they eased their finger on the trigger of the super-weapon. They aligned their eye with the scope, aiming directly at the hero. “They’re mine.”

The hero cursed under their breath.

Then, yet another enemy flew in, landing in their immediate vicinity with a ready fighting stance. “Ladies first.”

And another. “I call dibs.”

“Well, this is the worst day of my life,” the hero croaked, trembling as they tried to swallow down their panic. “...and probably the last.”

The villain threw up a temporary force field around them, and then pointedly turned their gaze back to the hero.

“I’m going to need an explanation.”

The hero’s eyes had a hopeless glaze in them, but then - out of all things - they laughed. “Haven’t you noticed? I lost my powers! I’m completely fucking powerless!”

The villain’s eyebrows flew up. Oh. The injection... it was some kind of serum that took away their powers... and now they were the easy target of all of their worst enemies, which are currently pounding at the weakening force field.

The hero was throughly doomed. Unless...

“If you don’t want to die today, you’re going to do everything I say.” The villain ground out through their clenched teeth. “Got it?”

“What? You mean that you’re going to help me?” The hero blurted out, then they eyed the villain skeptically. “Why?”

“Now’s not the time for questions.” The villain stated before they rose to their feet. They held their hand out to the hero expectantly. “Now, grab my hand, quick. This force field isn’t going to last much longer.”

The hero brought themselves up to their elbows and bit their lip, brows furrowing as they considered taking the villain’s hand.

The force field shook, destabilizing from the force of the imminent threats awaiting the hero outside.

“Now or never, hero.” The villain said, extending their hand out further.

The hero closed their eyes, exhaling out of their nose as they grit their teeth. A short, contemplative moment passed, as the hero weighed the risks - coming to the conclusion that they were screwed no matter what - and their eyes popped open decisively.

“Fuck it.”

They clasped the villain’s hand, effectively placing their trust - and their life - in the hands of their sworn enemy.

The force field encompassing them fell, leaving them unguarded. Their enemies were on them in seconds, before the villain hastily threw down a smoke bomb from their belt.

Then, with their hands still clasped together, the villain bolted, dragging hero along in tow.

a snippet | run | hero x villain [part 3]

part one here part two here

dedicated to & requested by @akawrites000

The villain curled her hand around the hero’s, warm and gentle, and guided her up the stairs. The villain’s room dominated the entirety of the upper floor. The villain’s room, in turn, was dominated mostly by plants.

Sunflowers, rosemary, sage, roses, basil, lavender, yarrow, mint, chamomile. Others that the hero couldn’t name. The roof had been replaced with glass; it was still framed by wood, so it appeared uniform from the front, but it was a beauty from the inside. The rain drummed against it and the water ran like a river down the windowpanes. Besides the plants, there was a fireplace against one wall, a bookshelf next to it, a wardrobe, and a four-poster bed tucked away in the corner. The hero sighed, the beat of the rain filling her ears, the intoxicating scent of every plant swarming her senses. It smelled nice.

It smelled like the villain.

The villain swung the doors of the wardrobe open and pulled out a pyjama set.

“You can’t possibly go to sleep in wet clothes,” she said. “Here.”

The hero flushed, thankful that the lights were all off save for the flickering flames of the fireplace as she turned to the wall and shucked off her wet clothing, replacing it with the clean pyjamas. The villain hung them in front of the fireplace. Her hair was messy, but there was nothing to be done about that—that is, until the villain seated her on the bed and moved behind her, sitting a little higher, one hand on the hero’s shoulders and running a brush through her hair with the other. Stroke after stroke, falling into an even rhythm with the rain. The hero sighed and leaned into the villain.

This feels safe. Like a home should be.

She felt safer when the villain put the brush away and tugged her down to the pillows, arms sliding around her waist and the villain’s head against the crook of her neck.

“Goodnight, hero.”

No more running.

Hi! If you get this, answer with three random things about yourself and send this to the last seven blogs in your notifications – Anonymously or not! Let’s get to know the person behind the blog!

Three completely random things about me, huh? Okay, let's see...

1. My favourite animals are vultures. They're gorgeous!! I especially like those that are part of the genus Gyps. However, Gypaetus barbatus, the bearded vulture, is even more fascinating. Honestly, you should google that one! Not only does it look really cool, it also has a diet that consists mostly of bone!!

2. When I was 11 and watched Jurassic Park for the first time, I spontaneously decided that I would one day become a palaeontologist. Something about a grumpy guy running through a jungle, protecting children he finds annoying, trying not to get eaten by dinosaurs, somehow really appealed to 11-year-old me. I have to admit though, even today, having learned what palaeontologists actually do most of the time, a part of me is still hung up on that idea.

3. Despite being demiromantic, I recently managed to fall in love romantically with someone breathtakingly amazing!! Seriously, it's been years since the last time I felt any romantic feelings towards any real person. I so wasn't expecting something like this to happen, but somehow it did. And that isn't even the best part!! Because she is such a wonderful and lovely person and I'm absolutely thrilled to be able to call her my girlfriend <3
