I love the practicality of Luffys crew
Like from a tactical sense; Luffy as captain is immune to blunt attacks and is fairly adept at hand to hand contact being absolutely feral. His biggest (and most obvious) weakness is that he is susceptible to slashing attacks. So he’s got 2 choices, learn how to sword fight OR get a really good swordsman, so he picks up a guy who just happens to WANT to be the greatest swordsman.
Cool, next weakness of Luffys (from a capture/arrest/ damage perspective) is distance attacks. Yes he’s immune to bullets and cannon balls but a sneak attack or a bullet aimed above/near him would be a good choice, so he then picks up a sharpshooter. And not just any, this one is the son of a commander of an emperor of the Sea…who also happens to be the best sharpshooter.
Next Luffy is not the best at specialized hand to hand combat. Sure he’s able to carry his own for a long way but waves of marines means special forces and eventually even Luffy is going to run into someone who could pose a problem due to energy expenditure, so he picks up a cook who happens to be the protege of a captain who sailed the grand line and was renouned for his special fighting techniques (plus bonus long lost family powers)
Then to round it off, he picks a navigator who has fought pirates/marines her whole life, who can read the water and wind in a way that even fish men envy and who can provide you with the best path of escape each and every time. Not to mention she has some hand to hand combat skills + wind/weather powers to create some specialized sneak/power attacks
Just…from a marine/ tactical standpoint, I’d be shitting myself from just East Blue Crew alone. Not to mention a doctor from island of doctors who can speak to animals and turn into a giant monster, an archeologist who can read the secrets your government spent 800 years hiding and who grew up an assassin, a shipwright who not only trained under the man who built the previous pirate kings ship but who also doubles as an armoury whenever needed, an 8ft sword wielding skeleton who can summon attacks from hell and a literal rogue warlord who happens to be the strongest fishman still in universe (thus far) in a world that heavily depends on devil fruit users to keep piece. And that’s not including all Luffys allies over his journey…
Like damn…no wonder people dub him a 5th warlord. Half his crew alone causes a shit ton of damage (dressrosa, WCI) so I’m REALLY excited for Wano to be a game changer in how the world sees this little, goofy, but terrifyingly competent pirate crew
ah, the goals friendship
lmao i love how stan and kenny jump in
the worst thing about my life is that i'm genuinely obsessed with eric cartman
i have a thing for disfunctional found families that are literally soulmates i swear to god
main 4 are SO interesting like. they make each other life's arguably worse but they would be EVEN MORE BAD without each other. like. they can’t tell when one ends and the other begins, they are four best friends that everyone hates and yet have the power to do literally anything they want.
that lice episode that the whole time they are pointing at each other's actions and saying "that's EXACTLY what you would do if you have lice" and in the end they all have lice. they know each other so much fuck them
point is. i love the south park main four
The main four SP boys are so funny and i wish more people appreciated how funny the dynamic and history between specifically the four of them are.
They're the coolest kids in school and everyone wanted to be their friend. No one likes them. When one died (semi)permanently, they ran a The Bachelor-type contest to pick a new bestie. They forced a kid to dress like their dead friend. The vibes were still off though so the dead kid came back. They're eight years old. They're ten years old. They're 9 years old. One of them has an alcohol addiction and depression. They've all seen each other naked. When one of them got herpes, he immediately passed it to the other three. These two things are unrelated. Three of them know the other is a psychopath who will kill people who get in his way and they're just like "wtvr". They hate each other more than anything. They cannot stop being best friends or it'll ruin the future of America. They would kill or die for each other. At 50 years old they still have hissy fits like children out in public over an argument none of them even remembers having. They're obsessed with each other. One of them gave another AIDS. They make each other so much worse for being involved in their lives. There is no low any of them could stoop to that the others would find it impossible to be their friend still.
When Chef said that they're friends "whether you like [each other] or not" he wasn't kidding. Its literally inescapable and thats so funny to their dynamic, why would you ever try to change that lol.
Did any of us actually expect to be Rick and Morty fans? lol. I feel like everyone's story starts with "Well, I avoided that show for ages because the fans were terrifying and some of the world's douchiest people like it, but it's so popular that I decided I'd give it a try, and..."
i would argue that stan is the leader since no one listen to cartman (most of the time) and kyle is really impulsive. but the group CAN keep going without stan, so maybe kyle. cartman makes an effort to keep them glued, so he acts as the leader sometimes.
overall. aestheticly is stan. actually is kyle. and cartman sometimes steps in, so he's definitely the vice.
Silly comic about how I never see anyone claim Kenny is the leader of the main 4's little group.
i think its funny how kyle spend like 25 seasons trying to make cartman a decent person and fighting him every step of the way but all it took for stan was a few tears and cartman was immediately saving that pangolin
this intrigues me, not only because cartman has been acting nicer in the past few seasons, but its proven in the post covid how he actually CARES FOR HIS BROS????! and besides the sacrifice rabbi cartman did, the pangolin thing was one of the only actual kind things eric has ever done. he gained nothing from it, in fact, HE LOST what he wanted. eric cartman gave up on his antisocial life so stan could live a normal life again. thats... unheard of?
also in cupid ye he just inserts himself in the situation solely because he hates seeing stan sad. Cartman has a soft spot for stan (and arguably kenny), but he is a piece of shit to both butters and kyle, probably because he knows the two of them can keep up. i think its nice how his fucked up mind works
on a mind too clever for their own good

the days i am really sad i try to cheer myself up remembering that nishinoya got a canonically tiny tiny little hand
it always works
ok here i am again with another meta analysis for rick and morty season 6 because of course my obsession phase isn’t over yet
apparently this season is a lot focused on the family smith. it was a big hypothesis when he only had the titles for the season to base our opinions on, but also when it started to air it was pretty clear ALL the smiths are the main focus on this season. the dynamics they have as a family, the nuances, the ups and downs, how they (dis)function - it appears to be explored very heavily this season. lately (a little bit in season 5 too) all five of them seem to be treated as a family, and not just a bunch of people that happen to live together.
which is nice, i really appreciate it, especially because they seem to mix that with sci-fi stuff and humor and honestly i couldn’t ask for anything else (i can’t be the only one laughing the shit off myself this season all the jokes are landing to me please)
my point is, i wonder if the reason why they decide to explore this theme so much is due to quarentine.
right now the smith family are stuck with each other. with the portal gun broken, rick and morty can only go so far in their own dimension, and since they can’t afford to screw things up, they really seems to be doing things tamer and less dangerous than before. in other words, they have nowhere to run and rick needs to deal with his family more often now.
this sounds A LOT like quarentine to me. you going a little bonkers, but also needing to deal with your peer’s crazyness as well. it’s the time you need to confront how disfunctional your family really is but how you love them so deeply you have no other option but to endure them. (i’m talking about non-abusive homes here, please). personally, i think i got a lot closer to my parents and brother after this hell, and it seems fitting the writers went through that as well.
considering season six was written during a more flexible but still real part of the lockdown, i find it a good hypothesis they decide to write the show analog to what was happening in the real world. the smith family can go to school, work, go out to ice cream, but at the end of the day there’s not a lot they can do but to be under the same house for long period of time - they can’t travel, they can’t pretend their problems don’t exist, they can’t go out often. they need to confront each other.
with this new premiere for episode 4, night family, it got really clear to me how they are willing to just dive deep into the family dynamics, making it more smith-centric. it has been a common theme that rick is acting more like a grandpa rather than a crazy asshole scientist lately, how beth is actually willing to be a good mother now, how jerry is finally being assertive about his place in his home, how morty and summer seems to have a more love-hate bond than just a i-cant-stand-you bond. they are still all fuck ups in their respective areas, they are still horrible people, but they are their OWN horrible people
also the fact that the smith family CHOOSE each other rather than just accept they need to live together adds a new layer to things. no one is from that reality, in the first episode they had the choice to be in their origin dimension if they wanted to and they’ve had tons of opportunities to just walk away before. after a long, long jurney with the same people since half the season 1 (and this jerry from season 2), we can say that the smith family aren’t connected because rick is a control freak, but because they do love each other and this is their burden to carry. in the end, family is a burden you can’t throw away, but it’s your burden and i love that.
and the fact that they actively made the choice to keep each other close is so much nicer than whatever the abusive dynamic they had in later seasons. it’s a found family, they became a found family even if disfunctional as hell. i love that
