šš How to be vulnerable
(aka yap session about rui and tsukasaās trust in and importance to each other)
š ā” š
In Ruiās caseā¦
His playful somewhat childish demeanor when around Tsukasa is an act of vulnerability in and of itself in my opinion. Toki Shunichi has even said the directors had told him when recording to use a more playful tone whenever Rui is talking to Tsukasaš
The fact that some of Ruiās closest friends (Nene and Mizuki) can pinpoint the ways that heās changed since meeting Tsukasa shows just how much Rui confides in him, it honestly makes me kind of emotional.
He gladly shows Tsukasa the mannerisms he was previously shunned and alienated for, because heās been shown a place where he belongs through Tsukasa, and he trusts Tsukasa with his true self.
Rui, who was prepared to let himself be a lost cause. Who was ready to accept loneliness forever. Who was fully prepared to give up if it meant the people around him would be happy. And then to have some crazy ass get down on one knee and hold out his hand to you. To show you that you didnāt have to be alone and that he was willing to give you somewhere where you were loved and happy and trusted by him, when all youāve heard your whole life is people thinking your dangerous and weirdā¦
In Tsukasaās caseā¦
I think Rui being his age is something really relieving for him, because he doesnāt have to be a big brother or a role model or a senpai. He can just be Tsukasa. And he trusts Rui enough to show that more childish side of him that he didnāt really get to show anyone else before now.
Thereās no expectation to be the big brother, the role model, the senpai, because of the trust heās placed in Rui, which Rui of course reciprocates. For Tsukasa, I think thatās quite vulnerable in and of itself.
Tsukasa, while oblivious, I think expresses his love for Rui in his own ways. This may be delusional to some people but I think itās quite accurate to say Tsukasa also fell victim to love at first sight, maybe even moreso than Rui.
Iām not sure how to articulate it in better words but Tsukasa expresses so much through shows and in turn is able to understand someone elseās show. Heās said āI know that if they [Ruiās ideas] come to life, theyāll always turn out wonderfulā
The fact that his vision of the ābest show everā is one with Ruiās directions. I think thatās a testament to how much he loves and appreciates and trusts Rui, even if he never outright says the words.
oh the sole creators of their respective sekai's and their self-soothing behaviors
"Rui is a monster" Rui's first event consists of Rui forbidding himself to do the one thing he loves the most because the friend he acquired 1 week ago fell down the stairs. Hope this helps
Is it just me, or is anyone else slightly irked by all of those videos that excuse sexualizing the pjsk characters, specifically the 3rd years, just because they've moved up a grade and "are now 18" šš Kid you not, since the games 3rd anniversary I've seen SO many fucking videos literally just. plainly sexualizing mainly Rui and Tsukasa and it's excused because they're "eighteen"??? š Literally please do enlighten me on where their ages were confirmed, 'cause all I've seen is just speculation and people just assuming that, oh, since their all moving up a grade, that must mean that their aging up too!!! And sure, it could be working like that since the only character to canonically have their age confirmed is Haruka, who was stated to be 16 in the mmj main story, and since she was a 1st year at the time we can assume all of the 1st years are 16, the 2nd years are 17, and so on and so-forth. But still, even if that is the case and they did actually age up, your first instinct was to SEXUALIZE them??? šš I know that it is not that serious, but sexualizing the pjsk cast was a problem even beforehand, even though they're all inferred to be MINORS š„š„ can't we go back to like. focusing on them as actual characters. or somethign
"Oh, my favorite Project Sekai character is the one who has purple hair and can speak English! You know, the one who was once considered a child prodigy? The one whose problems were inadvertently caused by their intelligence because nobody around them could properly understand them? The one who once was desperately searching for a purpose in life because they felt as if they had no idea what they truly wanted to do? Actually, they *did* know what they truly wanted to do, they just had no way of supporting it because of external factors. But you know, the one who gave up on hoping that their life would take a turn for the better? The one who was only able to identify their real beliefs due to the help of their respective group members? The one who struggles with understanding their feelings and emotions?" ??? WHICH ONE !!!!!!!
I'm gonna hit this guy over the head with a really big hammer
anyone else think about ruiās ny 2020 lines a lot

During middle school, Ichika had to deal with Saki being hospitalized then having a falling out with Honami and Shiho directly after due to Shiho and Honami both becoming victims of bullying and not wanting to drag Ichika down with them. Ichika didn't even get an explanation as to why Honami and Shiho were leaving her either, she just got told "I don't want to be your friend anymore." and it got left at that. Even though Ichika still attempted to reach out, she got little in response and became extremely lonely as a result. Ichika blamed herself for the groups falling out and carried a lot of guilt about it for years; she felt listless and empty. She felt even guiltier since she was hiding the fact from Saki, who was already lonely and isolated enough as it was due to being hospitalized. Ichika spent 2 years all alone, no other friends, trying to get Shiho and Honami to talk to her, but all her efforts were fruitless. All she wanted were her childhood friends back During middle school, Honami was a big people-pleaser due to the overwhelming fear of being hated by other people. She was bullied because she had the tendency to befriend and show sympathy for people in different friend groups and avoided picking sides, to the point thatĀ she was accused of sucking up to othersĀ to avoid being hated and was called two-faced. She was treated as an outcast in her class. Once the next school year rolled around, she was afraid of being bullied again by her new classmates and only hung out with a small group of people, and subsequently, she started avoided Ichika and Shiho. Even after she started hanging out with that small group of people, Honami became wary that she'd be ostracized and hated all over again if she even made one small mistake. In one of Kanade's side stories, Honami admitted that she had the desire to "disappear" before. During middle school, Shiho preferred solitude and being by herself. She'd reject her classmates invitations to hang out, and ultimately, people started talking bad about her due to her aloof demeanor. Shiho didn't mind the gossip or rumors, but once people started talking bad about Ichika as well by default since she hung out with Shiho, Shiho pushed Ichika away and distanced herself from her in order to protect her. Since Honami was being bullied as well during that time, the two gradually grew apart once they both decided to stop interacting with the friend group. Shiho was in the light music club during middle school, and got frustrated due to the members lack of work and dedication. Once she brought it up, the club got into an argument which subsequently caused them to split up, only further worsening Shiho's reputation. She didn't mean to hurt either Ichika or Honami, all she wanted to do was protect them from getting hurt by her bad reputation. During middle school, Saki was hospitalized all throughout the duration of it due to her weak body and chronic illness. She was bedridden for days on end, and was extremely isolated and lonely. She questioned why she was the way she was, and was extremely jealous of people who could experience life normally. She never got to experience things like playing tennis, travelling or even going to school due to her poor health. Outside of immediate family, Ichika was the only one to visit her in the hospital, which she deeply appreciated. Whenever anyone visited her, Saki put on a brave face and smile so she wouldn't further upset anybody, despite how empty and hurt she was deep down inside. She'd spend her days crying without anyone there to comfort her, and often worried that she'd never get better. While in the hospital, she was completely oblivious to the groups falling out since nobody ever told her, and she only realized after being discharged from the hospital. Instead of making fun of Leo/Need for not being the most visually striking and having "boring" personalities, I think you should actually read their group stories, cause all of their lore is really interesting
can we talk about how much Tsukasa has affected Rui's life.
before Rui and Tsukasa met, Rui had convinced himself that nobody would ever want to work with him because of how people had been avoiding and viewing him as a dangerous person since childhood. If we go back to the Wonderland x Showtime main story, I believe Rui had trust issues and that's why he was so hesitant in accepting Tsukasa's offer to join the troupe both when he first asked, and after the nenekasa argument scene. Fast forward to the first WXS event and Rui's first focus event, It's On! Wonder Halloween, Rui definitely has abandonment issues, hence is why he started subconsciously holding himself back once he accidentally hurt Tsukasa. Because, in his words, "On a subconscious level, I must have been so afraid that Tsukasa would start hating me and leave, like everyone else did... Somewhere along the way, I started to press the brakes out of not wanting to lose what took me so long to find..." I STARTED TO PRESS THE BRAKES OUT OF NOT WANTING TO LOSE WHAT TOOK ME SO LONG TO FIND. Tsukasa was one of the first people that took genuine interest in Rui's inventions and stage directing and he fulfills any direction asked of him no matter how taxing it is because Tsukasa fully trusts Rui and knows that he wouldn't do anything to intentionally hurt anyone. Flash forward to the A Once-In-A-Lifetime Pandemonium!? event, Tsukasa played a vivid part in Rui's character arc. Previously, Rui had been pushed into depression due to how the people around him ostracized him and he felt as if nobody around him would ever be able to understand him, but with Tsukasa's help, he was able to break out of his shell and actually let himself be happy for once without holding onto the negative burdens of his past. He was able to let that go and actually make friends outside of WXS, all because Tsukasa had shown him that there are people that are actually willing to put their trust into him. The mutual faith and trust they both have in each other is cray cray Rui "I had always thought that I could never be properly understood by anyone around me. As I started doing shows at Wonder Stage with everyone, my way of thinking and feelings began to change. Now, I am able to understand someone without the need for putting on shows, and I've come to value the idea of laughing alongside others. That's whyāTsukasa-kun. Thank you for giving me the chance to change." Kamishiro
I'm the normalest Wonderlands x Showtime fan out there ! (and the biggest. move over Azusawa Kohane.)
