OK SO I've seen many different takes on how Jade would act when/if jealous of his S/O... here's what I think:

I personally think Jade is very secure in his relationship with his S/O and has a lot of trust in them to even begin dating in the first place, so I don't think he'd get jealous that easily. he likes to have his freedom to do his own things and he supports them having their own freedom as well! go out with their friends without him, meet a work partner, talk with that guy in their class, do as they wish!

I don't think he's clingy or anything, so he doesn't really care if they go out without him every once in a while, he goes out with Floyd and Azul too after all. of course, they don't exclude him of every single event or he might feel like they don't appreciate his company as much. both make sure to have something planned just for them, like little dates!

now, if someone starts hitting on them (and either they don't notice or this person doesn't stop after being asked to), I think he'd get a bit protective. not in a possessive way, but just wanting to help them in an uncomfortable situation. it also bothers him a lot to see this person clearly doesn't respect them and their boundaries after they say they are already taken. so, he'd interfere and make sure this person leaves them alone. depending on how irritating they were, he might do a background check afterwards... oh, what for? don't you worry about it :)

what has a bigger chance of happening is him being jealous not of a certain person per se, but of the time his S/O spends with them. like, they've been hanging out with Ace and Deuce a lot and didn't have that much time to visit him at Mostro Lounge or the Mountains Lovers Club. that might make him more irritable than usual and he might text/tell them little clues he wants to spend more time together. he doesn't have anything against them being with their friends ofc, but do come by every once in a while please.

all in all, I don't think he gets jealous that easily and when he does it's nothing like a big explosion of feelings, just his more subtle way of showing off they're together. he's respectful to his S/O's boundaries and freedom, just as they are to his, and if both trust in each other, there's not much point in getting worked up over little things, you know?

I really like how his character was more flashed out in chap5! his relationship with Vil is so interesting, I love how they listen to each other and actually take in considerstion what they say, they can balance each other out. his appearence in events is also delightful, in the ghost bride event I KNOW he was having the time of his life being all romantic and stuff lol

still. I'm mad at him for being the one vote that made RSA win the VDC. I understand why he did it and I think it was an important lesson for Vil but. I'm still salty. he's going to the salad spinner for that.

tho I think the fandom takes the stuff he does and says way too out of porpotion at times? I've seen some discourse involving him but like. it's not that serious pls he was just in a silly goofy mood 😭 I do get criticizing his he-man haircut... Vil do something about it I beg of you

Jade has no fears. What is it? There's a demon butler visiting NRC? Jade has one fear.

I'm bitter because it's my birthday and Halloween Jade refuses to come, so I'll celebrate it with the better butler boy. *glares at Jade*

Jade is not one for fear.

Sure, he has his fair share of them. One simply does not grow up in Coral Sea without developing some. But one also simply does not grow in Coral Sea without losing some.

So Jade isn't one for fear.

But why does it have to be a butler type?

Jade can only watch, eye twitching in a nervous tic he got from Azul, as his crush ogles at the demon butler in front of her, hanging at his every word and blushing under his gaze.

His name is Barbatos, he is the loyal butler of Lord Diavolo, the Crown Prince of Devildom and the Headmaster of the Royal Academy of Diavolo, one of the few schools that might be older than NRC and even Crowley himself.

And he's exactly (Y/N)'s type.

A good looking, devilish butler with a gentle appearance and behavior who hides something darker and dangerous behind his tea brewing skills and overall otherworldly excellence? Big hell yes from her.

Why does Jade know that? Jade knows everything he possibly can about his crush, including the knowledge that he is exactly her type.

Or, at least, he's the closest anyone at NRC can get to her type.

He understandably did not account for possible visits from the Devildom, a Kingdom that has kept to itself for most, if not all, of its existence, and now he's paying the price. Floyd, the menace, is having a field day, watching from the bench they share as his other half gets more and more agitated while the demon charms Shrimpy.

"Oh, I'm sorry, am I holding you up? You must be busy with Lord Diavolo– I mean, with helping Lord Diavolo," Jade feels like eating glass at the enamoured look (Y/N) sends the demon, clearly not wanting to part but also not wanting to be rude.

"No need to worry, my lady, the Young Lord has given me some free time while he speaks with Lord Crowley," Barbatos gives her a smile the eel just knows is making her legs weak. "And I'm enjoying your company very much."

Barbatos is particularly hateful because he's actually being nice. His niceness is inherent, not trained like Jade's. And the eel can tell the Prefect can tell, she's good at judging one's character. It's one of the reasons why they get along so well, she can tell when Jade is being genuine or not, a skill very few have.

If only that skill wasn't helping the green haired demon get closer to her.

"O–oh, I see..." The girl places her hands on her burning cheeks, and Jade feels another bitter sting. That is his face, that's the face only he can get from her when he compliments her. "Thank you for your kind words."

"All of them true, I assure you."

"Oh, stop it, I'm already blushing."

"It was not my intention to make you uncomfortable, my lady, but... I must admit you look very lovable," Barbatos offers a hand to her, one she shyly takes, only to then squeak when he places a soft kiss on the back of her hand. "Please, allow me to be selfish and keep you by my side for a few more moments."

Enough.

Jade walks so fast, it almost feels like he's swimming through the air. Floyd's loud laugh follows him like a predator, together with a playful "go get'em, tiger shark". As soon as he reaches the duo, he takes a silent deep breath, making sure his usual smile is on his face as he takes (Y/N)'s other hand, a privilege he earned, and brings it to his chest, right on his beating heart

"There you are, Prefect. I've been looking for you."

"J–Jade!" The eel is more than please to see her eyes completely leave the other to focus solely on him, the blush on her pretty face now all his.

When he looks up, mismatched eyes meet green eyes, and he can tell Barbatos has been fully aware of his presence from the very beginning. A sharp—quite literally—smile forms on his face at the annoyance in the other's eyes.

Ah, the greed of a servant who finally found something they want to be selfish about.

Would be entertaining if what the demon wanted wasn't Jade's already.

My fellow short companions Epel and Riddle have even more respect from me for doing such things with others being flippin living skyscrapers! Oooh you're so right, Riddle and Epel do deserve a lot of respect for their hard work!! I think the other guys at spelldrive club might have made fun of Epel the first time he went to pratice only for him to prove his height means nothing and he's just as determined as them! now for Riddle, the problem was the horses since they can be hard to handle, depending on it's personality, but I'm sure he did the best possible job and his horse respects him a lot!!

LMAO I GET U, I think it's pretty clear I'm not athletic as well, couldn't even imagine doing all the things I put reader through (actually, I've only ever played basketball before on pe classes, the rest I had to do a lot of research so it was very insteresting to write!)

I toss this to you for more floyd analysis that last post had me thinking about how he’d act with a crush and on one hand hed definitely still act like his normal self and whatnot but At the same time I definitely think he wouldn’t know really how to go about a crush

like with how these guys have mostly zero game (like the ghost marriage event 😂),I wouldn’t be surprised of he had moments where he gets frustrated cause he doesn’t get why hes feeling a certain way and checks out for a lil while n cant help but feel like hed also not be sure how to react if he ever (or ever really has) gotten flustered

thinking about Floyd with a crush is SO entertaining, his unpredictable nature makes it possible for him to act in many different ways! even if it may seem out of character, we have no way of knowing if it could be true in this case and, considering Floyd's ever changing nature by mood, it's a possibility!

there's this post, that I think is so cute, of Floyd being secretly a hopeless romantic at heart and wanting to do the stuff you see in cheesy movies and books. whether is something he canonically would do or not is up to debate, but it sure is fun to imagine!

the way I think of it, Floyd with a crush would act as touchy as he usually does, giving hugs and staying close their personal space, and would be kinda blunt like always. I don't think he'd dance around the issue, but he might not know how to react and just do whatever feels right at the moment. so if he thinks they look cute, he'll just outright say it, no shame at all.

and if they return his affections, he'll be delighted! he'll gladly accept any nicknames and hugs and compliments! he'll want to stay by their side for as much as he can, as every moment with them is so entertaining! tho he might get flustered if they surprise him with some sincere declaration of affection when he isn't expecting it, he wouldn't know how to react due to it being a first for him. yes, he knows they like spending time with him since they never run away from him, but actually hearing them say it to his face? it makes his heart flutter and his face feel warm.

so I agree with you, anon! he'll mostly be like normal, but you can see a certain softness whenever his crush is around. Jade and Azul might notice about his feelings before he himself does, since he isn't used to feeling like this and just doesn't know how to recognize a crush. love at the deep sea is very different from how land dwellers deal with it, he'll need some time and patience to get it.

Any thoughts on Floyd? I personally think he’s a lot more of a 3 dimensional character than the NRC students think he is! He’s ironically seen as the scariest out of the Octavinelle trio but in certain scenes like in Chapter 3 of the Anthology comic where he tries to reassure Riddle that he’s still a good person despite what he did while overblotted or in his dorm vignette where he makes trades with things clearly holding less value than what he currently has just because the other person seems to need it he seems much more thoughtful and kind. He can be a nice person but he always says he’s only doing it because he’s bored almost making it seem like he has a fear of showing kindness with others. Sorry for the ramble I just think he’s interesting personality wise

since you asked for my thoughts, here they come:

same fair warning as the Idia post: this is my opinion and it might not be 100% right, anyone is allowed to disagree!

anon, you're so right, Floyd is such an interesting character! all of Octavinelle are, which is why I get the impression they have the most content in fandom, alongside other popular choices like Leona and Malleus. now get ready, because I have MANY thoughts on him and you just gave me the opportunity to ramble about them in a silver plater.

I think the thing with Octavinelle is that they are very complex, so naturally their interesting personalities and dynamics attract a lot of fandom attention, myself included! although this complexity also can lead to some misunderstandings and many different interpretations.

going along with your line of thought, I think he's the least scary of the trio, depending on how you view it. Azul seems to agree, as in Beans Day he comments how Jade is the scarier twin, since you never know what he's thinking, while Floyd makes his thoughts clear as day (or something along this lines). I personally agree with this, Floyd is very honest with his intentions, if he wants to hurt someone he'll just outright say it and threaten them, giving plenty of body signals. Jade and Azul are not like that at all, making them more dangerous due to never knowing what angle they are planning or what's going on in their minds.

I can see why the students think he's so scary tho! Floyd's squeezes can hurt quite a lot depending on how he does them, I think in chapter 3 a student even passes out because of it? not only that, but his constant mood swings and unpredictability are also very nerve racking and unsettling, as I think I'd have a hard time trying to deal with someone like this in real life, especially as I appreciate some predictability in order to know how to act around people without stepping over any boundaries, so I feel I'd be walking on eggshells around him lol

of course, he isn't all scary! he looks like it even when he's on his happier moods because of his pre-existing reputation and his loudness and lack of personal space, so people don't try to get close to him and actually see his other sides. I feel he'd be a fun friend to have around, because he's always up to something, and since I love physical affection I wouldn't mind much his hugs. (as long as they aren't his deathly squeezes. I like to keep my lungs intact thank you very much.)

another thing about him is that besides his more scary side, he can be quite cute! his laugh is seriously serotonin inducing, he likes to play around and to dance and to experiment new colorful clothes and to have a good time! he's not an "uwu innocent baby", but he's not a "crazy maniac bastard" either. Floyd can be scary when he wants to and he can be cute when he wants to.

I really like his dorm uniform vignette, I think it's a good example of his nature! he gets things because he wanted to at the time, and that's all there is to it. I don't think he had a personal kind motive behind his trades, just that he wasn't using one thing and if he could trade it for another, then why not? tho it's very interesting how at the end, he did it all to get what Azul wanted (at least inicially, he kinda forgot about it halfway through)

Floyd is, at my point of view, very free, as he doesn't care much about other people's opinions about him or about his grades or about his unique magic or anything really, as long as he's having a good time at the moment. The only thing he's tied to are his own whims, as only Floyd could ever stop himself. I feel like he does things sometimes because he's bored, yes, but sometimes simply because he felt like doing it at the time, so he did. (sometimes I wish I could think like him honestly, it would save me a lot of headache!)

he can definetely be a nice person! like all students at NRC, while they have a tendency to be assholes most of the time, every single one of them can be nice and good! I do like your interpretation of him being afraid of showing vulnerability, such as kindness, something others can easily exploit and he'd know very well about it, since both under the sea and at NRC people take advantage of each other at the drop of a hat. I've seen people think that this boredoom and extreme mood swings of his are masks so he doesn't have to do things he doesn't want. if he wants to escape a situation, he'll say he's bored and leave, simple like that. if he wants to help someone, he'll say he was bored and didn't have anything better to do. I can definetly see it!

in my point of view, I think he genuinely does have his mood swings, one time he'll be super excited about something and in the next he just... won't. I don't think they are without a motive tho, there's always something that triggers it, like if things get repetitive or don't go the way he wanted them to. a way to put him in a especially bad mood would be to try to control him, that's when he's definetly not going to do anything he's asked of. just leave him be and do things on his own way and he'll comply (if he feels like it).

he's most definetly capable of being thoughtful and kind, as Floyd is not dumb at all, he understands other people's emotions and how he affects them very well. hell, he even takes pleasure in scaring them sometimes, so obviously he's very aware. tho he won't just come and do something out of the kindness of his heart, he can do things because he wanted to help or to have something to do. he could just disobey Azul's every comand at any time, but he doesn't, and that shows how far his respect for him goes. he doesn't bend himself over every single wish of Azul's either, oftentimes just not showing up to work or doing his job in a lackluster manner. it all depends on how he's feeling really.

TL;DR: Floyd is such an interesting and multifaceted character! he's much more than the scary image the NRC students have of him and can show many different sides, depending on his mood! he's my little weirdo meow meow, thank you anon for sharing your thoughts with me!

lilia feigns something akin to ‘youthfulness’ as he cups his own cheeks and grins. “definitely, cater. i could just eat all of them right up!”

the vampire-like noirette wastes no time in savouring his last moments onstage by cooing to a group of fangirls in the front row. he’s pulling out all the stops: baring his fangs, batting his doe eyes, whispering sweet nothings. you swear you can feel the ground rumble beneath your feet with ardent intensity as high-pitched squeals fill the venue for the umpteenth time that night.

oh please, give me a break.

your audiences were usually more on the tame side, so to see the same people practically bursting into tears over simple fanservice has your jaw dropping. you should be getting ready to go up there yourself.

and yet, your eyes are still trained on kalim.

neither google images, nor the photos on social media did him justice. he was beautiful, but not in the way that you’d describe idols like vil. it was his sincerity that left your cheeks warm. from the crinkles in the corners of his eyes as he smiled leading fan waves or the remnants of laughter in his voice as he sung — it caught you off guard — so genuine, so endearing, but vexing all the same.

to say it was uncommon to see someone in this industry not having any sort of stage persona would be an understatement. perhaps that’s what puts TWIST3D aside from idols like yourself. their authenticity makes them stand out; they were just being themselves, so maybe that’s why the audience felt closer to them.

i mean, how could you expect regular people to relate to you when your whole image isn’t even truly you, but a meticulously crafted mask?

the blunders kalim made onstage are overridden by his infectious joy. he was having fun, and that zest oozed from him, influencing the audience. “you guys will keep an eye on TWISTED, won’t you?” there’s a slight pause, before screaming ensues, louder than before.

perhaps the hype was finally getting to you, because you have half the mind to start cheering for him too.

azul, who had been silent throughout the whole gig, utters a tirade of furious curses as he barges into your dressing room. “did you see that??! did you see those guys?”

nodding wordlessly, unfazed as ever, you peer into your vanity mirror one last time.

“i knew it. i knew they’d be trouble. i told you they’d be the next big thing.” footsteps click from one side of the room to the other. “i’m afraid you’ve been outclassed by the epitome of sunshine.” he paces back and forth, muttering under his breath.

“you don’t bother sugarcoating things, do you, ‘zul?”

“i would, but you know me well enough to see through my lies.”

you figure he’s also experiencing the same epiphany as you. it was a tough pill to swallow: kalim was good. kalim was really good.

thinking back to the things you had said about him a few days ago, (that he was just a trust fund baby, that he leeched off his parent’s money and reputation for success…) you realise they were all lies stemmed from your putrid, childish envy. pieces of your trained composure break away as you sink into your seat. despite being an amateur, he was virtually at the same level as you, with the capacity to reach higher.

his immeasurable dancing ability and abundance of energy could attest to that.

you don’t have time to dwell on much more as a knock on your door breaks you right out of your self-depreciative stupor, causing you to shoot up out of your seat stiffly.

“hey, y/n? you’re up in 5!”

you can count the number of times you’ve heard kalim’s merry voice on just one hand, but it already feels too familiar. a glutinous guilt overcomes you, wringing you dry, tightening your throat and rendering you speechless. how could you face him after being so awful?

“hellooo…? y/n, are you in there?”

his words hang heavy in the air when nobody answers, so azul moves for you, seizing your hand and pushing you towards the door. “azul! what—?”

‘you promised you’d talk to him.’ he mouths at you, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose with his index finger. azul did not take the act of breaking promises lightly. he’d been like this for as long as you could remember.

you internally implode, averting your body from his direction. ‘i didn’t!’

‘open. the. door.’

shaking your head vigorously, you hold your hand over the handle in order to stop him from reaching for it. azul deadpans, bristling at your idiocy before pressing your hand down so the door clicks ajar. light from the hallway seeps through the gap into your slightly dim room; for a few silent beats, nothing happens.

shuffling forwards, you peep your head outside, surveying the right side of the hall. you can’t see any sign of kalim at all.

maybe he’s gone.

you let out a sigh of relief, allowing your shoulders to slump a little. you turn to your left, only to see garnet-red eyes inches away from your face—

“HI!”

“holy shit!”

—you’re barrelling into kalim with shock, unable to ease your fall as he grabs onto the crown of your head hastily in a attempt to protect it from hitting the wooden floor.

SO TRUE, the way they both trusted each other so much... that last fight with Nine becoming Melissa's eyes... them..................

YESSS yuri's character is much more than the "sweet and innocent MC who cares about everyone", she's much more well rounded than that! in my heart, the true ending is Melissa marrying both Nine and Yuri and they live happily ever after (with Yona being their maid of honor who gets really rich)

YOU'RE SO RIGHT, especially with Ian since he's the one that had more screentime, you could see him changing after Melissa confronted him inumerous times and Melissa's own feelings on that matter. I also really liked how they straight up just threw Peacock in jail LMAO that's what he deserves!!!! and the whole stalking thing with Jake was really cool, to see Melissa and Yuri confronting him like that. Jack is so funny to me too because he didn't even go after Yuri, he was just vibing being a dumbass who causes trouble all the time lol, Melissa is a real one for protecting Yuri and putting everyone in their places, what a girlboss

HII LIYA!! just wanted to say I've just fineshed reading Beware of the Villainess and OMG??? IT'S SOOOOOOO GOOD???? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR RECCOMENDING IT I LOVED IT <33 seriously it's so funny and captivating, Melissa is such a cool protagonist, breaking the usual stereotypes like that and writing her own story!! I also LOVED Nine and Yuri, they are so sweet, I was rooting for both of them! LITERALLY NINE AND MELISSA INVENTED ROMANCE. NO ONE WILL EVER TOP THEM EVER. how am I supposed to move on from such a heartfelt relationship................ soulmates fr fr. and the original male love insterests ARE SO FUNNY?? the art style, as you had mentioned, is beautiful as well, some of the scenes took my breath away, I just had to take an extra moment to appreciate them! again, thank you so so so so much for introducing this amazing manhwa to me, it's such a nice way to start reading this genre!

Something I like about Beware the Villainess is how Melissa and Yuri have fully rounded characters, and are both victims trapped in unfortunate circumstances? Neither of them fall into a cliche role, and their relationship is so cute… Melissa has two hands: one for Nine and one for Yuri <3

Another thing I enjoy is that the og male love interests are portrayed as horrible people and they… are properly punished by the narrative for their actions? They’re not redeemed for some shallow reason, they’re redeemed by properly reflecting on their actions and trying to do better. It really grinds my gears when manhwa go “oh this guy was shit and treated the mc terribly and was even the cause of her death BUT he changed and they’re in love now :3c” like…? Get away from her rn!!!!! We’ve seen their relationship at the lowest, and the fact he has the capacity and ability to do horrible things to the mc means I do not want him near him tysm !
