In any city fares are a uselessly small fraction of the money that allows public transit to work. Public transit is funded by all of us as citizens, which makes paying to use public transit an extra burden carried by the poor: the people who have no CHOICE but to use it. A poverty tax. (Don’t @ me about your beardo husband who bikes to work and buses part way that’s not the majority of users and we all know it)

Here in #portland Trimet wants to spend several hundred thousand adding more cops to police fares, even tho that money is desperately needed elsewhere to make Trimet more accessible and user friendly.
