5:27PM : Your head is in his lap, and he strokes a piece of your hair from your swollen, damp eyes. You look so small and vulnerable in his lap, little, silent sobs coming from your mouth and hiccups making your head bounce on his legs.

But Hyunjin can’t bring himself to care, because you look so broken. From your diamond tears to the bloodshot eyes that puff from the sheer amount of crying you’ve done, he thinks his heart breaks every time he looks at you. Clad in baggy, comfortable clothes and hair pushed messily back, you don’t care how you look around him, especially not at this moment.

All he can do is run his long fingers through your hair, the strands gently falling back with each stroke of his hand. He rubs your ear gently and scratches the skin behind it as he hears your cries calm, knowing it’s somewhat soothing you. Your breathing is still erratic, sure, but your eyes are opening and you're not shaking anymore. Anything is better than before, he thinks, and he uses his free hand to wipe some of your tears away.

Suddenly meeting your skin, he notices your face is way too hot. Of course it is, it’s the middle of July and you’re wearing the fluffiest, thickest tracksuit bottom and jumper you could possibly get. But he doesn’t dare move to fix it.

It’s as though you’re a sleeping kitten, little and precious and the dread of disturbing your slumber is greater than anything. Apart from the fact that you’re not sleeping, you're crying, and he can’t bare to leave you alone. You don’t deserve to be alone.

Making a mental note to sort out your rising temperature later, he quickly swipes his thumb underneath both of your eyes, hand softly moving down and cupping your jaw while his thumb rubs over the expanse of skin. Until he can feel that you have somewhat caught your breath, he continues like that, and then moves down to your own hand. There’s one that’s not gripping onto his shirt like it is the most important thing in the world, and he entwines your fingers with his.

You immediately squeeze it, and he smiles down sadly at you when you do it. However, your eyes are on the hand that’s linked with his, and the way he brings it up to his lips and presses a fleeting kiss to the soft skin. Hyunjin doesn’t think he has the capacity to worry about your breathing in this moment, as all he can think about is the fact that his heart is beating out of his chest and he might have a heart attack.

You’ve always been affectionate with each other but kissing your hand when you’re sobbing over your stupid ex who broke your heart? That wasn’t the close, friendly affection you were used to.

But the feeling of your hand loosening from his shirt takes his mind off of it momentarily, and he watches your every move. He sees the way your hand moves to his wrist, the one that is stroking through your hair, and removes it from where it is. However you don’t place it down like he expects. Without a moment's hesitation, you bring it to your own, puffy and red lips, and place the most heart warming, delicate kiss on his skin that he has ever felt.

You’ve both put together and shattered his heart in one small action, because he’s staring at you both confused and overjoyed, clueless as if he has no clue what to do next.

He doesn’t need to know, because you know for him. You know that he has had your heart for a long while, even if you caught on embarrassingly late, and that Hwang Hyunjin is your forever man. He’s the one who comforts you when you feel lonelier than ever, he’s the one who never fails to buy you a valentine’s day gift because ‘he doesn’t want you to be sad if you don’t get one’, and he’s the one who has helped you when you never knew you needed it.

There is no one else’s arms you’d rather be wrapped up in when you feel so lost, so you let the moment continue. Whatever you are, whatever you do. That can all come later. For now, you and him being there together is the only thing that matters, and you both know much rather live in the moment if that’s where you both were.

Night had fallen, but Dite found herself unable to sleep. After making a rather pathetic attempt at it, only managing to nearly fall off her hammock from all the tossing and turning, Dite had just gotten up and dragged Jongho, who was on babysitting duty, outside to the deck.

Yunho had noticed the two coming out from the belowdecks, waving at them from his spot in the crow’s nest and told them to come up. Thus, the three of them now sat there, Dite sandwiched between the two men. They were still in the hot heart of the summer, so the night was warm. She felt the bare skin of her legs sticking to the wood she sat on — it had been so hot she had decided to forgo from wearing pants. The shirt she wore, probably belonging to one of the male crew members, was so long it reached her mid-thigh anyway. A warm breeze blew into the ship’s sails and tousled her hair gently. 

Despite the serenity of the night, Dite’s thoughts were reeling. The words the soul fragment in the Tear had spoken had returned to her in the aftermath of the confrontation with the navy officer. She couldn’t wrap her head around the meaning of the words. Not mine, it had said. Of course, Dite knew she differed from her family in aspects other than her outer appearance. She just hadn’t expected those differences to be so major that her own supposed goddess wouldn’t claim her.
