NEED to talk about the new Invincible episode and it being a heartbreaking display of how the manifestation of trauma can hold you back from accepting newfound happiness.
First off, such an interesting subversion to build Rex and Rae’s relationship around healing and trying to remedy their past trauma only for it to lead to them not actually starting a new path together because Rex is literally not ready to heal yet. I think because of how the season was going and Rex falling into the comic relief role I was expecting a more linear path to finding happiness, so him deliberately refusing to leave and start new because he’s resigned himself to a life of unhappiness is a much more tragic direction to take his character that I wasn’t expecting. Despite the fact that he’s grown a lot, he still isn’t someone that views a happier life as something attainable to him, and as long as he believes that he can’t actually heal with Rae.
And the fact that it’s literally that resignation that parallels Powerplex’s story. One of the first lines is his sister telling him “It’s the childhood we never got” while they’re watching her daughter play. Powerplex and his wife– they had a child but we see them resigning themselves to lives of revenge so much so that their own baby was robbed of the chance to ever have a childhood at all. In the end Powerplex was his own worst enemy even when the opportunities to focus on potential healing presented themselves.
Rae and Rex’s clashing resolves were due to the childhoods they never got to have. Rae’s speech about finally wanting to take a risk for herself and make her own decision to seek a better, happier life is a heartbreaking contrast to characters like Rex and the Duvall family.
Definitely one of my favorite episodes of this show

Thinking about former timelines subsmoke and how they ran away from the Lin Kuei together only for one of them to be caught and automated. Thinking about DOTR Cyber-Smoke being forced to hunt down his friend and Kuai Liang refusing to fight him no matter what. Thinking about Kuai Liang being haunted by the fact that he couldn't save his friend. Thinking about Cyber-Smoke remembering their friendship and protecting Kuai Liang, asking him to run away and save himself but Kuai tells him he "won't let him down this time". Thinking about how, when Stryker asks him if he's okay after Cyber-Smoke left and declared they couldn't be friends anymore, Kuai Liang only answers with "physically" because his heart is broken. Thinking about how he swears he'll meet Smoke again. Thinking about Tomáš in MK9 and how his priority, upon realizing the Cyber Lin Kuei were after them, was to check on Kuai Liang to make sure he was okay. Thinking about Tomáš witnessing Kuai Liang being captured while being unable to do anything and how dejected he looked when he realized he had failed his friend. Thinking about how Tomáš ran to deactivated Cyber Sub-Zero and cradled him in his arms, refusing to abandon him despite Raiden's belief that his human soul was gone. Thinking about how Tomáš must have sat by Cyber Sub-Zero's side the whole time Jax was trying to fix him. Thinking about Cyber Sub-Zero's first sight being Tomáš upon finally waking up.
Thinking about them while listening to Never Let Me Down by Depeche Mode even though I have exams to prepare.
🩵 I hope he never lets me down again 🩶
It's my official theme song for them, I copyrighted it.
Do you guys think that Liu Kang still has human moments every now and then?
I know he's been a god for eons, but he was a human first.
He doesn't need to sleep, but he will still climb into a bed, because he remembers that a bed means comfort and rest.
He doesn't need to eat, but will still consume food because he enjoys the taste. He also likes to eat socially with others.
And now that the Earthrealm champions has been assembled again, I feel like Liu Kang struggles not to talk to them and react to them as he would have done in the original timeline.
He tries not to roll his eyes at Johnny being his usual cocky self. Tries not to be too friendly with Kung Lao as he would have done when they were like brothers. He tries not to bow and show reverence to Raiden as he would when their roles were reversed.
He still has a slip up now and then though. He once elbowed Kung Lao playfully, to which Kung Lao gave him a baffled look. He has nearly called Raiden "Lord Raiden" a couple of times.
I just feel like, no matter how long Liu Kang is a god for, he will always have that bit of human in him.
And for the record, I have no problem with analyzation of character bcs i do it too, infact i think it’s cool and fun. Idgaf abt his dad either, I’m just saying SOMEEEEEEEEEEE Bi-Han stans only bring him up when they think he MIGHTVE been a bad person. “Posting mindless hate”, girl boom🙄
Bi-Han stans are some of the most delusional and nonsensical MK stans I’ve ever seen. That, and most times the CONSTANTLY have to bring down other characters, especially Kuai Liang and Tomas(sometimes even their dad that we have not seen), to make him seem decent. I agree that his disapproval of Tomas dosent make him evil, but they be DRAGGING IT😭
I blame both Sektor and Quan Chi for keeping them apart.
Bro I just finished Arcane season1, and this little bitch Jinx is not what ppl make her out to be. This mf is BEYONDDDD annoying bro. The fandom been treating her like she some sweet little girl or sum…this bitch cause half her own problems atp? And don’t hit me with that complex character bs bcs I DONT wanna hear it, ppl do that with Alicent Hightower. Anyways, I do LOVE Vi, Ekko, Jayce, Viktor, and Mel, which was sorta unexpected(mainly Jayce bcs the fandom hates him). And it’s just like…Jinx is an amazing character, don’t get me wrong…but she is not what ppl say she is? Literally killed her own dad that killed her OTHER dad, then she shot at the topside castle/palace? Hot the nerve to be mad at Violet or hanging with a topsider…but she killed their whole family and sided with the person who sorta caused that situation…like WHAT? I get her character, I just don’t like her. I’m new tho, so hopefully, I don’t get cussed out for hating this time
