Another year, another Hermit-a-Day May! I'm so thrilled to be able to bring this event to you all for the third year in a row.

Today is for celebrating all of those who, while they may not be Hermits themselves, exist and entertain in proximity to them.

Bamboozlers WIP

May I offer a Bamboozlers WIP in these trying times?

Loving Wild Life so far, but haven't been able to watch too many perspectives. Why did they have to start it from midterms-finals?! 😭

I'm planning on doing group illustrations for each group and a solo one for Creaking!BigB, but school has been hectic (I just failed out of my math class as a STEM major 🙃) so they might be either late or a bit rushed.

Atlantisia Art Contest Entry

My entry for Sparkbirds' art/video contest! I think I might edit a few more things so this isn't my final submission, but I hope you like it.

I had to use three different editing programs cuse one I downloaded just for this and did all of the layering and stuff, but as I went to export it apparently like all of the assets I used were premium despite not having any indicators whatsoever, and I didn't feel like doing the entire thing all over again, so what I decided to do was to screen recorded the playback viewfinder in the editing UI, and then dump that into a different editing program to crop and trim it. The audio got messed up but considering I had an mp3 file of it I just added that into the other editing program as well. That's not even including that artwork which had me doing multiple thumbnails, renders for the bird, trying to figure out anatomy, and a fully rendered piece with everything in separate layers. And I also did value thumbnails for some reason?? It worked out well but idk why I did it I've never done that before. I rarely thumbnail as it is. I'm writing this at 2 am, BTW, and I think I started it around like 8?

Also just a little detail that I like that no one will notice is that all of the colors are color-picked from the Atlantisia and Mayday cover art. There is some messing with values, layer modes, gradient maps, and stuff, but all of the base colors came from the albums. I'm just info-dumping at this point. I'm tired.

Punk 101: Lace Code

Lace Code is one of my favorite things, and so it happens to be the Punk 101 post that I’ve worked on the most. I’m sorry (I know I said at some point band shirts were up next 😬)

To start, it is important to talk about where Lace Code came from, and where it is now. Using lace colors on your boots (doc martins specifically) started with London Skinheads in the 70’s. Their white and red laces were typically symbols of white supremacy, and in some groups those laces had to be earned.

I’ll eventually do another post on Skinheads, but for now all you need to know is that the Skinhead subculture is historically known for being racist and violent. I always feel the need to point something out when talking about Skinheads: NOT EVERY BALD OR SHAVEN PUNK IS A SKINHEAD!

Later on in the 80’s, Lace Code became a popular way for many Punk subculture to communicate things such as their stance on racism and their sexuality. Now, in many areas, Lace Code is dead, but not everywhere!

Lace Code applies to ladder laced black combat boots (typically people wear docs). Each color represents something different, and this can vary by area, so it is important to check your local scene

How to ladder lace:

Traditional ladder laces are shown on the left, and quick release ladder laces are shown on the right. And here is a site that goes step by step

What do The Colors Mean?

(Colors mean different things in different places. These are the most common meanings and the ones I personally know - check your local scene to ensure its not different for your area)

Orange: Anti-Racist // Anti-ICE // No Meaning

Yellow: Anti-Racist

Green: Environmentalist // Peace // No Meaning

Blue: Killed a Cop

Purple: Queer // Gay

Pink: Feminist // Queer // Gay

Black: No Meaning

Patterned: No Meaning

Red: Nazi // Neo-Nazi // Anarchist

White: White Supremacy // Nazi // Neo-Nazi

Note: no one can stop you from wearing whatever you want, but in some areas you should be mindful because there are still people who follow Lace Code, and if youre seen with red or white ladder laces, you might be in for it

2nd Note: Its always advised that you dont wear ladder laces when traveling if you are unfamiliar with the Lace Code of the area you are traveling to for safety purposes

Third Life💚💛❤️ is about 3,616.53 minutes or 2 days, 12 hours, 16 minutes, and 32 seconds with each episode being about 36 min and 9 seconds long and having a total of 100 episodes.

Last Life❤️‍🩹 is about 4,634.98 minutes, or 3 days, 5 hours, 14 minutes, and 59 seconds with each episode being about 36 minutes and 47 seconds long and having a total of 126 episodes.

Double Life💕 is about 2,889.22 minutes, or 2 days, 9 minutes, and 49 seconds with each episode being about 36 minutes and 66 seconds long and having a total of 80 episodes.

Limited Life⏳ is about 3,446.57 minutes, or 2 days, 9 hours, 26 minutes, and 34 seconds with each episode being about 34 minutes and 7 seconds long and having a total of 101 episodes.

Secret Life📜 is about 6,004.83 minutes, or 4 days, 4 hours, 4 minutes, and 50 seconds with each episode being about 41 minutes and 42 seconds long and having 144 episodes. (Etho combined sessions 8 and 9, but Jimmy had an episode after his death so it balances out)

Wild Life🎲 (as the time I am writing this they are on session 7) is about 5,471.55 minutes, or 3 days, 19 hours, 11 minutes, and 33 seconds with each episode being about 43 minutes and 46 seconds long and having a total of 125 episodes.

Real Life🫀(If your including it) is about 399.87 minutes, or 6 hours, 39 minutes, and 52 seconds with each episode being about 30 minutes and 45 seconds long and having a total of 13 episodes.

As of writing this, the total run time of the Life Series (excluding Real Life) is about 26,063.68 minutes, or 18 days, 2 hours, 23 minutes, and 41 seconds over the course of 676 episodes. If you are including Real Life, the total run time is about 26,463.55 minutes, or 18 days, 9 hours, 3 minutes, and 33 seconds over the course of 689 episodes. That is over two and a half weeks of non-stop watching, not including adds, loading, bathroom breaks, etc. For reference, the total watch time of One Piece is around 26,208 minutes, or 18 days, 4 hours, and 48 minutes long.
