How the hell did it take being told straight to his face that he's an alternate for Adam to realize he's an alternate

These motherfuckers can mold their face like clay and you're telling me he's never done that?? Not even on accident?

I can't stop thinking about a scenario where Adam is just like- in class and is bored out of his mind holding his head up with his hand. He's falling asleep and then falls off his hand, hitting his face on his desk and when he sits back up his face is smushed.
