“She closes her eyes. He probably won’t come back, she thinks. Or he will, differently. What they have now they can never have back again. But for her the pain of loneliness will be nothing to the pain that she used to feel, of being unworthy. He brought her goodness like a gift and now it belongs to her. Meanwhile his life opens out before him in all directions at once. They’ve done a lot of good for each other. Really, she thinks, really. People can really change one another. You should go, she says. I’ll always be here. You know that.”
— Sally Rooney, Normal People
just thinking of how our meaning or purpose in life is merely to experience. eating an orange segment, hoping for snow, being in love, returning over and over to one painting, stepping outside for the full moon, submersion in water, having a favourite colour, knowing beauty, feeling alone, feeling connected, feeling longing… it is enough.
I just wish I could learn every language and all the histories and about everyone's food and folklore and... 😔 but i only have one brain and it is small and malfunctioning
do you ever pick up a book, read the first page and realise that you are about to fall in love with it, and you know that it will stick with you yet haunt you for many years ?? like no matter how hard you try it will be a piece of you now, dictating your perspectives and views ? apart of you feels so much anticipation, joy and excitement, but apart of you is like what the fuck have you done you silly sausage
okay jokes aside dracula daily is such an ingenious way of promoting and enjoying classic literature. bringing back the experience of reading it like a serial novel but through email?? connecting the narrative experience to the textual form but in a modernised way?? the epistolary novel at its peak!!! that shit is so cool!!!! and seeing people reading it for the first time and getting their live reactions?? fucking blessed!! maybe it’s the nerd in me but i think it’s genuinely awesome

please respect people who are mentally ill and disabled who cannot work. please respect people who look like they’re just relaxing all day when really they’re waging an internal war just to stay alive or fight their pain. please respect people who could not finish school, people who had big plans and could not see them through because of disability. people who look from the outside like they’ve “given up” or “aren’t doing anything.” people who are hospitalized repeatedly or permanently, and people who are grown adults who are still dependent on others. please respect disabled and mentally ill people.
this is not a polite suggestion, by the way. it’s an angry demand. we are people, and we deserve the same respect as anyone else.
