Araminta had the upper hand until Posy burst in lying her ass off for Sophie about the shoe clips and then turning the tables on Araminta, who was Sophie's and Posy's abuser, by revealing Sophie's dowery left for her by the late Earl of Penwood. That's when Violet was able to threaten Araminta and get her to back down. It was also after this that Sophie finally gave Araminta a rightlyfully earned backhand, not for herself but for the only family member who loved her more than she feared their abuser.
