A Few Of These Are Probably Referring To The Date Posting Bug Thing, But AAAAAAAAAAAH!

I made these as a way to compile all the geographical vocabulary that I thought was useful and interesting for writers. Some descriptors share categories, and some are simplified, but for the most part everything is in its proper place. Not all the words are as useable as others, and some might take tricky wording to pull off, but I hope these prove useful to all you writers out there!

Btw those are daffodils, periwinkle and pink carnation in the bouquet, and crocus in joxter´s hat if you couldn´t tell, i don´t draw flowers very often xd

HOO boy do I!! there’s some excellent food in this fandom. I dunno, tove jansson just inspires the best stuff and these people are wickedly creative! good combo!!

it’s honestly really hard not to say “everything they’ve written” for p much all of these authors, but so it’s not too intimidating I’ll try and whittle it down.

(and let me just say that if an author here has a parent au fic in their collection that’s an automatic rec gfjdk)

clefairytea: “Moominland in the Mirror” and “The Little Book of Daffodils”.

the first is an engaging 50k snufmin bodyswap tale about snufkin and snorkmaiden, and moomintroll’s relationship to them both (very good for that coveted bff content!!). GOD the characterisation here is fantastic; every voice is just 100% on-point, there’s some wonderful expanded lore for characters who sorely deserve it, it’s just a fun experience.

the second is an Adorable fic about a slightly older snufkin finding his old poetry republished and reworked (read: hetwashed to hell) under some snooty hemulen’s name, and struggling with the popularity its impact is having on moominvalley and his friends, who Don’t Know. also snufmin, bc I’m predictable hahaha.

methdeatal: “Red Thicket” and “The Sun Was in My Eyes”.

red thicket, another beautiful 50ker that dips smoothly in and out of adventure and slice-of-life and I really enjoy that, it makes the world feel so realistic. again, they’re a bit older here: moomintroll wakes up in winter once more while snufkin is away visiting family, so to combat the boredom they start getting in touch. quite a few different little things happen from there so you gotta read it for more!! it’s so GOOD.

also the prose is just Delightful. it makes you feel as if you’re in the ~50s yourself, snuggled up in the warmest fresh linen in a dusty old cottage reading a classic by lamplight.

tswime is a diary-format human high school-au (or more accurately, a secondary school) and even if you’re not into those it doesn’t matter. it’s excellent. it’s all (mmmish) told from moomintroll’s pov as he grows closer to quirky little snufkin. the formatting Really lends itself well to the story!! the characters act somewhat differently due to their modern (late ‘90s, actually!) environment, but are still wholly recognisable. man. if this doesn’t just toy with your emotions every other chapter. so. you know. adolescence: the fic

boorishbint: “Swallow Nests” and “The Rifle”

I feel like “100k slow burn coming of age bitter-but-ultimately-sweet snufmin fic” is enough of a draw-in, yeah? fjdk. it’s just Another banger with perfect characterisation!! and another that going too much into would ruin, you’ve just gotta experience it for yourself!! just a couple of dudes figuring out what the other means to them is all. beautiful writing, beautiful everything!

the rifle’s a “joxter raised snufkin” story coming in at 40k, and you should know how snufkin ends up in canon, so I don’t think calling it ultimately sad is giving away too much. it’s simply the joxter and his little son, and the experiences they face in the world alone together. cute when it needs to be and equally as heart-wrenching. (this one also belong to a 3-part - with one currently ongoing - series, so look into that too!!)

hraundrac:“Kicking Roses”

a grown-up moomintroll has struck out and built a house, as moomins do, to attract a potential partner. gee I wonder who will turn up. oops, it’s that old snufkin pal he hasn’t seen in a few years! they reunite and they’re awkward and it’s good.

this only just started, so it may not be a multichap just yet, but it will be! a very good one!! lovely, vivid descriptions and a sweetly muddled moomintroll!

take a look at the tag “Snorkmaiden has two wives and runs a casino and you WILL get to see it” and tell me you’re not invested.

this!!! oh. I am not over it. I read it only very recently so I’m still in awe. the main tags are basically as follows: trans snufkin, autistic snufkin, jewish-coded snufkin. and I sure hope that got your attention bc I got Hyped!

snufkin(pappa), now a father of 3 and of course in a happy relationship with moomintroll, has begun musing more on the history and culture of mumriken. having a family to pass these onto has made him question things more than he did before.

it’s an absolute delight of a story involving fantastical judaism, its observances, and a detachment from one’s culture as an introspective snufkin explores his heritage. jewish snufkin is def a popular enough headcanon from what I’ve seen, so if you’re looking for something more, there it is!!

kittyorange: “Family Resemblance”

a very short-and-sweet fic that honestly feels longer than it says!! the woodies come for a visit. snufkin and moomintroll are Cute. very “tales from moominvalley” vibes in this, and it’s just lovely!

feralbasilthief: “Burning Leaves”

another tiny story, wherein snufkin carves himself a pipe. it packs so much charm into one thousand words!! if you also enjoy interps of snufkin being wise but having 0 brain cells then you’ll like it.

alright maybe I’m cheating the list a bit here, but this was a request fill for me and I can’t help but be a little self-indulgent bc I adore it so much!! it’s set juuust before comet in moominland and concerns snufkin’s meeting with the snorks, and the reason behind his mention of snorkmaiden’s herbal drinks in that book. snufkin is trans. :)

you know what I’m also gonna pepper a “The Fillyjonk Who Craved Disaster” in there too bc it’s one hell of a rarepair w absolutely gorgeous chemistry and hilarious writing. clefairy’s writing has made me actually laugh a lot. they’re so funny guys.

prob cheating again but this is my list I do what I want gfjh. technically! this is a Series of one-shots so it counts!

they’re just great little gems involving various moomin characters based around a prompt, as the title implies. they’re all very cute and light and funny, with a bit of a melancholy tinge here and there.

there’s even more good fics behind these names than the ones I’ve highlighted! like I said, if I really wanted to recommend everything I love it’d just be profiles and nothing else fhjd.
