Preach!!!!!!^

I JUST WANNA TALK ABOUT NIE HUAISANG FOR A HOT MINUTE.

I JUST WANNA TALK ABOUT NIE HUAISANG FOR A HOT MINUTE.

Ok. The Untamed / Mo Dao Zu Shi has a lot of awesome characters. Wei Wuxian and Lan Zhan? Epic. Love ‘em. Wen Ning? Precious. And I would die for the Juniors.

One character I was absolutely sleeping on was Nie Huaisang.

Now, one of my favorite tropes is Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass, except Nie Huaisang isn’t any sort of secret kung-fu master. He’s legitimately bad in a fight, and would rather other people do it for him anyway. And he’s not a schemer, not really - he stays in his lane, minds his own business. He just wants to sit here and feed his birds.

Except he’s always paying attention. He’s absolutely an airhead, but he’s listening. And watching. And asking the questions that sound dumb but make another character realize something important.

This ambush predator’s strength is being underestimated by literally everyone.

And he could have so easily been evil. He and Jin Guangyao have this in common: they are polite, and subserviant, and people don’t think much of them. But while JGY seeks recognition, power, and retribution, Nie Huaisang be minding his own business.

Until he isn’t. (Aw now you fucked up!) Then he’s gonna end this man’s whole career - with minimal effort and personal risk, of course.

Just, wouldn’t it be a shame if the one guy with the power and motive to end you came back to life? And almost immediately met up with his soulmate “good friend” who would both kill and die for him? Wouldn’t it be a shame if the people who knew your darkest secrets were empowered and allowed to tell their story? Aw, nuts. Rough for you, man.

But my favorite part is how he absolutely wants no recognition. When JGY gets the chance, he monologues for two episodes. Nie Huaisang doesn’t say shit, and he would appreciate it if you’d stop bringing it up, actually.

I just - I might have to rewatch the show just for him, because during those last few episodes, every time he turned up just to say how he didn’t know anything about this or that, I almost died.

Dude took a nap face-first on a dirt floor for hours just to avoid confrontation. Fucking legend.

i am not someone who has ever said, written, or thought this phrase before but i had to sit on my hands every second of saltburn to keep myself from posting “this is SO MAJOR.” it’s so major. so so so so so fucking major. made in a lab for sickos of my exact variety. you will gasp. you will squirm. you will cover your mouth in shock. you will go holy fuck. people walked out. the girls next to me screamed YES! and i said yes with them. so major. so major. and as a bonus it’s one of those movies that pretends to be for intellectuals even though the storytelling is absolutely for simple people so you feel smart just for watching a very straightforward film. not even a film. a flick. what more can i say. finally a film about toxic obsessive girl friendships except they’re boys with names that only cats should have (oliver and felix)

Boys I’ve met

These are the boys I’ve met so far during my life colour coded into descriptions. People can be a mix of colours but these are genuinely my thoughts on real people. I wonder if you can relate.

- There are what I call the golden boys. They are the charmers who could insult you without you even knowing. They are the ones who do questionable things behind school buildings that everyone knows about but they never get in trouble. They are the social butterflies that never belong to one group. They are the perfect mixture of danger and excitement that leave you feeling giddy. Them with their silver tongues that entrap you to do bed things. They are a enticing storm.

- Then there are the red boys. Whilst not necessarily arty or eye catching, they are the boys who worm their way into situations without any knowledge how. They are the boys whose names are often followed by an exclamation mark. They are the cause of numerous anecdotes and laugh out loud memories. These are the boys who can always make you laugh and are the cause of any wild and stupid decisions. With their colourful characters and addicting eyes. They are a drug.

- The blue boys don’t have to be musical or arty. They are the ones with the bruises and bony fingers. They are silent, with hair perfect for running your hands through. They are in the background in a muted sense, clothed stylishly but subtly in attractive colours. They are the ones who take time in their apperence but still do not aim for the spotlight. They are slightly mysterious but nether the less eye catching in a unexplainable way. They are reassuringly warm.

- The green boys are all smiles. Whilst they are often more sporty, they are the ones with sun touched skin and bright eyes. They are the ones with easy going friends and are often found amongst their own kind. They are the ones who get easily excited about small things and are often seen smiling. They are often surprisingly intuitive and can read others like books, knowing much more than you know. They are deceptive.

- The yellow boys often lack a filter. They are the ones who just don’t seem to know when to be quiet. They are easy entertainment on grey days. Often triggering rolled eyes or brief expressions of resignation. But they are also incessantly loyal, always there with a attempt of a smile when your feeling down. They are the ones who give hugs like gifts and always try their best. Out of all, they are the ones who make the best friends.

- The grey boys are slow. They are easy going, following the flow. They are the ones who prefer to to do nothing. They are easily influenced and normally become the worst. They are like unpainted canvases and become easily addicted. They are the ones you feel sorry for. The ones who could always do better.

- The purple boys are bubbly. They are the ones no one can bare to hurt. They are like royalty, revered and genuinely liked by everyone. They are sociable and kind, nice to everyone and almost unrealistic. They are understanding and compassionate, always reassuring. But they are also ruthless, taking down enemies quickly and without mercy either by the self or through the use of their multiple friends. It is often unclear wether they are protected or feared. But these are the boys no one would cross.

- The white boys are focused. These boys are often the hardest to read. They are the ones who seem introverted. Usually creative, they have a certain passion, something which makes their head spin. Almost like addicts in a way, they relay on their passion to keep them going through the day. They may seem either cold or rude, but they are often unconcerned with society, preferring to focus solely on their passion. Once befriended, they can seem odd but will constantly amaze you as you slowly unravel their personality bit by bit. They are the most intriguing.

- The navy boys are logical. They are complex like a storm, finding passion in complex tasks and academic work. Often witty, they have a clever sense of humour that most people would not get. They are also the most loyal, following orders and staying true to their morals. This can make them extremely stubborn and headstrong, believing themselves to be smarter which can make them either arrogant or cold. They are the ones who are smarter.

Chinese bl dramas for those who loved The Untamed.

I watch a lot of Asian dramas and thought that since Chinese (b)romance (it’s so bro it’s gay) dramas are becoming more popular since the untamed joined Netflix, I thought I’d recommend some more for people to watch. These are some I really enjoyed. Hope you enjoy them too.

Word of honor. It’s already on Netflix. Amazingly well done. The plot twists are amazing and the main characters are soulmates. There is seven minute epilogue episode that is not on Netflix, so you will want to watch that.

Love is more than a word. Short 12 episode drama on YouTube with English subtitles. Very well done and the characters are really endearing and their romance is amazing.

Till Death tear us apart. Has the exact same cast as the one above^. If you watch that one first then Till death tear us apart then it’s like they have been reincarnated. Amazing romance set in the communist revolution. Extremely well acted and amazing costumes. On YouTube.

The silent criminal. Enemies to (b)romance. Criminal joins up with a soldier trying to find a hidden weapon. Funny and adorable. On Viki.

Winter Begonia. Love between a rich man and a male Chinese opera singer. There is such a good build up in their relationship. On YouTube with eng subs.

My roommate is a detective. (Not a bl unfortunately but still fruity) Hilarious main character. (B)romance between the detective and the chief of police. Sherlock Holmes inspired drama set in the 1920s. On Viki.

Oh my General. Straight main couple but explores ideas of femininity and Masculinity. Female is a badass general and the male is a beautiful spoiled city boy. Funny and dynamic. On Viki.

Guardian. Like The untamed and Word of honor, a (b)romance based off a bl book. Fantasy show set in the modern era with funny characters and good mysteries. On Viki.

Arsenal Military academy. (Not a bl but fruity anyway). Girl dresses as a boy to attend a military school. Set in the 20s. A lot of bromance and guys having a crises like Shang from Mulan. On Viki.

Advance bravely. Has Gong Jun from Word of honor. Another (b)romance based of a bl book. The main characters have good chemistry and a funny dynamic. Side couples are also interesting. Ends a bit ambiguously. Set in modern era. On Dailymotion.

Painted skin: the guo jingming edition. Fantasy based short film. Poignant and beautiful. On dailymotion.

Wuliang. 30 minute short movie. Amazingly done. Really well done despite its shortness. Has the same actors play the male leads as Painted Skin. If you watch that first you can view them both as reincarnation. So beautiful and emotional. On Dailymotion.

The Ying Yang master: Dream of eternity. Same director as the two short films above. Chinese fantasy film not to be confused with the other Ying Yang master film. Amazing with a enemies to Bromance with a beautiful film style. Full of action and intrigue and a tragic romance. On Netflix.

The lost tomb. (There’s various dramas of this name, five and then a reboot. They’re all based off the same books and I recommend them all). Found family with an immortal man and they go on Tomb Raider style avengers. Gay undertones but not canon. On Viki.

Under the skin. A crime drama where a artist joins the police force. Enemies to brothers relationship (though I wish it was more gay). Really interesting and great cases. On Viki.

League of noblemen. Historical murder mystery drama with a Sherlock Holmes type character. Very beautifully filmed but I am still confused over who the Male Lead is in love with cause they guy has three love interests.

Watching history 3: make our days count, and I’m only on episode 6 but I’ve cried and laughed more than I have with other tv shows.

I can’t wait for the next episode.

Update: shit. This made me cry for days. Don’t watch the ending. I’m never trusting history again!!!!
