I've said this before and I'll say it again: it's more important to know and understand fully why something is harmful than it is to drop everything deemed problematic. It's performative and does nothing. People wonder why nobody has critical thinking skills and this is part of it because no one knows how to simousltansly critique and consume media. You need to use discernment.
In WoS, Kim Namwoon is a character created for and based indirectly off of Kim Dokja. All characters of WoS are, of course part of this category in some shape or form, but Kim Namwoon most of all. He is, to the child Dokja, a source of inspiration, and what KidJa considers to be cool.
knw is chuuni because kidja is chuuni (a middle schooler through and through). knw doesn't care about adults or social status. he's not bullied. he has dyed hair and piercings and doesn't give a shit about anything. he's brash, unafraid to speak his mind, and confident. self-assured. he looks out for himself. he doesn't need to depend on anyone.
To a young Dokja, Yoo Joonghyuk was a father and older brother figure. He's strong and charismatic and the protagonist. Kim Dokja knew, better than anyone, that yjh was a character, that he could never truly be like yjh. Saying, "I'm Yoo Joonghyuk," is escapism. It's a refusal of reality. But Kim Namwoon? Kim Namwoon was someone that he could be; the sidekick in the shadows of the protagonist's light.
Of course, as Kim Dokja grew older, he began to feel ashamed of what was, essentially, an idealistic self-insert of what his younger self thought to be cool. In the fight against the Delusional Demon, kdj reveals that he resents Kim Namwoon for being a reflection of his past self.
Now, who else does KDJ resent? Who does he refuse to acknowledge?
Jang Hayoung.
Jang Hayoung is the second protagonist of WoS. She's cool and strong and enthusiastic and good at talking to people and better looking than yjh and and and—
And. She's a character that kdj actively asked tls123 to create. Possibly, the only character that he asked hsy to create. kdj says it himself—he's not comfortable being anything other than a reader. He has Opinions, sure, but he very rarely says how he wanted WoS to go (aside from, in the midst of yjh's suffering, asking whether yjh could have a happy ending). JHY is another ideal, the person the older Kim Dokja wishes he could be. Except for one thing. She's a girl.
JHY is, I would argue, a reflection of KDJ's own Internalised transphobia. He refused to perceive JHY as female because to do so would open up a can of worms that he's too repressed to deal with. If he accepts that JHY is female, then what does that mean for his own perception of what an ideal is? This is also mirrored by his own refusal to acknowledge that the Punisher is YJH right up until YJH transforms in front of him, despite everyone else pointing out that....it was kind of obvious.
Despite knowing that JHY would be a strong addition to KDC, she isn't part of KDJ's inner circle. JHY is sidelined for much of the novel, and she mentions that she's often excluded. Why? BC kdj tries his best to avoid her. Because he doesn't want to acknowledge her. Becauseeeeee she's a reflection of his past self's ideals.
qed.
You can, of course, choose to read kdj's transphobia as purely surface level, but you know. It's cooler my way 😎
Slugs and snails are funky little
You know Shinzo Abe, the former prime minister of Japan who was shot dead on Friday??
Turns out the shooter did it because Abe had ties to a religious movement that bankrupted and ruined his family, because his mother was a follower who donated copious amounts of cash to the church
AND THE CHURCH?? IT WAS THE UNIFICATION CHURCH!! the church I was raised in, forced to attend until the day I moved out. I spent my whole youth despising the church and just longing for the day I was independent enough to cut ties with them forever. It was dreadful.
I’m so shocked, Jesus fucking Christ. Media outlets are still being somewhat quiet on the issue, and aren’t naming the Moonie movement quite yet - but if you read all the testimony it all points to being them
enemy to lovers but this time they are still enemies but in the nuisance kind of way
I put I Don't Dance from High School Musical 2 on Punch dance practice and honestly a genius move on my part 😌
poor mans gonna have to go through a zuko :(
"Hunter isn't trying hard enough to be redeemed"
"He betrayed Amity 2 times"
"Hunter still needs help but not from Amity".
Hmm...I DISAGREE!!
So about Hunter "Not trying hard enough", he actually did try,2 times to be exact, and guess what happened those 2 times...
And not only that but the fact that he opened up to Luz in "Hunting Palismen"
Only for her to share his identity to the world! And not only that, she called him a "bad but sad boi" and now Eda's teasing him! (Not saying that Luz revealed ALL of his identity but that's still something) (Not to mention he's a coven head so if someone knew they'll-)(What happens if rumors got out of Hunter using wild magic? Belos don’t kill hi-)
Imagine trusting someone, and then realizing they wanna be your friend, and you now have a friend! And then that friend goes out to share ALL YOUR SECRETS TO ALL OF HER 10 CLOSEST FRIENDS! (That was not what Luz was trying to do (in fact she didn't even tell them his name, they just somehow found out by the description) but that's likely to be what Hunter was thinking) Won't you, have some trust issues after that?
I've already explained the manipulation scene, but I'll say it here anyway.
"Come back with results or else...you can figure out the rest" -Hunter (Eclipse lake)
"Come back with results or else...we're done" -Amity (Eclipse lake)
That red arrow CLEARLY means turn back
Those 2 charts mean results cuz you put results on a chart
And the bat and the sad cat means Luz (aka, the bat) leaving Amity (aka, the cat)
And who would think of just spinning it around right? Hunter doesn't know "Human culture". He was most likely projecting himself onto Amity without knowing it.
Why didn't he accept Amity's offer?
First thing, he did accept it (or want to) but then he saw the key, and ooohohoho, all those thoughts just went straight away. Why?
Option A (for Amity), is just a chance game (This is Hunter's perspective btw) he could choose it just for the CHANCE of maybe finding someone that would actually care for him. Since Amity said, quote:
"But there are people out there that won't make you feel worthless, you just...have to let yourself met them."
(So Hunter needs to wait until he can find someone like that?)
Option B (for Belos), get the key, there's a 100% chance he will be happy. Belos cares for him. And if he just gives Belos the key then and there, there won't be any waiting needed! Belos is right there and he loves him!
And option A (Amity) has some flaws too, The Owl Lady absolutely hates him, and (as shown in the earlier scenes) ignores him even when he tried to help her! Luz hates him now for trying to steal the Paslismen, and she just called him a "Bad but sad boy". They even teased him about his lack of magic! And he only met them for like an hour. Plus, all the good interactions with them are only like- three minutes or at MOST 15 minutes (cuz of interruptions like Kikimora and the key).
Belos on the other hand loves him! He's important to Belos, and unlike the others, Belos would never say anything about him being "Powerless". Even though he IS still hungry for eye drops and Hunter does have some...But Belos adopted him, and he's been living his whole life with Belos. Why would he chose The owl gang after Belos has cared him for all his life and they- just insult him and say some words of encouragement? And he doesn't even know why Belos is dangerous (and is planning to harvest his teeth to the Titian! (joke)).
And it is hard (saying from personal experience), Very hard, to cut off an abusive person- it's just not that that easy as, POW, done. And even more so in Hunter's case since he's a "Powerless witch" and could never survive on his own/without a home. (Have you seen how DANGEROUS this place is? The fairies can eat your skin! Hunter "no magik boi" won't stand a chance!).
(And all of these thoughts are going through him in the span of 2 seconds!)
And he also acted out of instinct, (aka Golden guard side) and he wasn't thinking properly since he just had a mental breakdown and was using the things that he's known before (aka teleportation, the hand...not to mention he was using a different staff but was so desperate he somehow knew how to use it-), I mean seriously- Hunter you could have just levitated it away!
(Hehe- Hunter not weak at all! He even fought Amity after doing all of that! ))
Someone needs to give him some good interactions (for a few hours at least) and teach him about how bad Belos is. And Eda needs to stop bullying Hunter, because (According to Newton's law) you can only push at something as much as it can resist your push, so in the end, you'll have this barely supported Hunter that just moves out of the way when the actually good interactions come. (And most of the owl crew probably doesn't even know that Belos is manipulating Hunter and thinks that Hunter is the guy that's being bad)
Also this:
So if these kinds of bad interactions continue, Hunter may never be redeemed...(Unless if Rascal comes in but...there's Belos(Honestly that bird is the only thing that's keeping him happy and is the only good relationship he ever had!))(Not to mention, Belos is also the only other good relationship he had) because if he thinks that "friends" are only meant to hurt him and make him sad...he won't want any friends. And if these continue, we'll lose Hunter, and all we'll have left is a brainwashed and Belosy Golden guard...
And I'm scared that that's what gonna happen since most of the owl crew probably doesn't even know that Belos is manipulating Hunter and thinks that Hunter is the guy that's being bad...and Hunter's gonna think that they're bad ones, until it's too late...
Can I get a round of reblogs? Cuz I spent like, 3 days on this...
i havent been normal since ive seen this
Sing Shong should release an open-world RPG game where we play as Yoo Jonghyuk in the 0th Round. At first it's just us controlling him to do common game actions and challenges but then as the game progresses, we begin to be able to communicate with him directly and influence the storyline. And then when the game ends with the Star Stream falling, YJH will ask us who we are and why we helped him and there will be an automated text saying, "I am the Demon King of Salvation."
why is every version of charon chill as shit
Spider-Verse fanfiction idea I’ll never get around to writing:
Teacher: Congratulations, Miles. Your paper on multi-dimensional physics has attracted a TON of interest from our Science Mentorship partners. We’ve found you a really wonderful Science Mentor who’s going to be helping you prepare your Youth Science Innovators presentation this week.
Miles: Oh, wow, my parents are gonna be so proud.
Teacher: So, let me introduce you to Dr. Olivia Octavius. Thank you, doctor, for being part of this mentorship program.
Liv: It’s my pleasure, I’m just happy I can help inspire the science community of tomorrow.
Miles: … D:
Important additions:
- Liv is 100% legitimately invested in being a good Science Mentor. After all, today’s young scientists are tomorrow’s reality-warping coworkers.
- Miles’s paper was an edited version of his research on small, stable inter-dimensional portals, so he can hang out with Gwen/get multiverse help against major threats.
- Sometimes, Miles forgets to be scared or angry at Doc Ock and starts actually learning from her, except she inevitably proposes something super unethical and then unconvincingly adds “…theoretically, of course” and Miles starts planning how to counter whatever doom-bot she’s just come up with as Spider-Man.
- May Parker has been helping Miles with spider-gadgets and general science stuff after school. At some point, she and Liv have an angry shouting match over who gets science-custody of their science-nephew.
- Miles has to figure out how to turn down a very plush internship offer from Octavius at the end of the week. His parents insist he take it, he fails to come up with a good reason not to that doesn’t involve Spider-Man knowledge. His parents have Liv over for dinner, she speaks highly of their son and his bright future. The family loves her.
- When Liv eventually figures out his secret identity, she goes full punch-clock villain and keeps mentoring Miles while fighting Spider-Man’s attempts to stop her Bad Idea Science.
