In the afternoon he approached Harry, who was standing with Ron and Hermione, and asked to speak in private. They headed for the gardens since the weather was still nice and it was the perfect location to discuss such a difficult matter to bring up in the first place.
"I don't usually do that kind of thing," was what came out of Cedric.
Harry tilted his head curiously. “What do you mean?”
"Kissing my friends."
His direct answer made Harry look away instantly. “Neither do I. I’ve never…”
"Was that your first kiss?"
"Did you notice?" he muttered, embarrassed.
It wasn't that Cedric had thought of it for any particular reason other than the suspicion that if someone had kissed the famous Harry Potter, he supposed it’d be known. And that Harry was, after all, younger than him and had never expressed any interest before.
"I wasn't sure," he admitted, not wanting to make him self-conscious. Cedric wasn't an expert by any means. “But it was good.”
That may not have been part of what he had planned to say.
“I kind of only got kissed by a Dementor once, so that was a big improvement.”
Cedric laughed at the joke, blushing.
That was Harry's way of agreeing too.
He wanted to tell him how he felt…
He wanted to tell him that he wouldn't mind kissing him right then and there again.
But he couldn't do it. If Harry didn't feel the same way, he wasn't sure they would manage to stay friends the same way. And even if Harry liked him too in that way, it might not be enough.
"I wouldn't want what happened to turn things weird between us. I think I misunderstood the situation… I'm sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable.”
Apologizing was something he was good at.
The detail was that it was not in relation to kissing him.
“You didn’t.”
“Really?” Cedric questioned, remembering how he himself would say something similar when it wasn't completely true. “You can tell me.”
“No, it was fine. It didn’t bother me."
It hadn't bothered him.
What could Cedric say to that?
"That wasn't your first, was it?" Harry asked.
“No, it wasn’t.”
But it was the best.
"I didn't know you had dated someone before.”
"Oh, I've never dated anyone. Those were disastrous occasions,” he blurted out, suddenly realizing that it might sound bad. “Not that this was.”
Maybe it was, in the sense that he was messed up on the inside.
Ao3: Always Yours
"I miss Hogwarts," Harry blurted out, unable to avoid his wistful tone.
In all the letters he had written in that time, he had never admitted it.
Cedric remained silent for a moment.
"Not exactly Snape, I must confess," he continued with a joke, self-conscious.
"It's like home to you, isn't it?"
Harry didn't write that because he knew people would feel sad for him, just as he thought Cedric did.
He was embarrassed to answer yes.
“I miss Hogwarts too. My friends. And you.”
The other feeling Harry had…
It would last much longer than a call.

Ao3: Always Yours
So I finally decided to start posting cute fragments from part two 🤍
And of course Harry says “I miss you too.”
If you see me smiling at my phone, no, I am not in love. I'm just reading a hedric fanfic.
When even you want to know what comes next.
There’s just so much planning can do —the rest it’s a mystery waiting to be unravel.
okay but when you get to the end of your draft and realize if you want to read more you're going to have to write more
Part 2
Cho offered to paint their faces with the colors of Ireland just as she had done to hers. Harry didn't hesitate to nod and stood still as she brushed his face and held his chin for stability.
"All yours," Harry instructed as he rose from the seat, freeing it.
Cedric wasn't convinced, but he sat down.
The paint didn't seem like one of those that irritated his skin.
"You're adorable," Cho told Cedric with a big smile when she finished. A little shy all of a sudden, she added, "Both of you are.”
"Would you have painted me even if I supported Bulgaria?"
Cho laughed at Harry's indiscreet question.
"Yes, but it wouldn't have been my best work."
Harry's gaze fell on Cedric's face, studying it carefully as he recognized, “It does look really nice.”
The rosy hue, however, was not part of the Irish flag.

Along with Cho, they made it back to the Weasleys' tent just in time for all of them to head out into the woods towards the stadium. Ginny and Luna had the team colors painted on their cheeks. Harry entered just for a moment to grab the items he had bought for tonight.
He came out wearing all that, as if he were a walking flag.
Cedric covered his smile. He looked so adorable —and funny.
“Want one?” Harry handed him a green shamrock rosette. "I think I'm a little loaded."
"Sure," he said, stifling a laugh.
He took the brooch and clipped it to his coat.
In the same place where Harry had his, identical.
This may be a controversial opinion.
I love spoilers.
It might just be my anxiety but still. I get so excited when finding out things that will happen later in a book/series. Like what? Why? How? And then I see it and it clicks and makes sense.
So I really wanted to write an Hedric story.
Started off as what I thought would be a short one…
My wish list was:
Unexpected place for their first kiss
All the semi canon (?) moments, like the prefects bathroom ;)
Oh I love so much the goblet of fire trope I-thought-it-would-be-you-under-water in the second task
An epic kiss
Time travel because why not?
Dude I'm reading 'the boy I love' and finally got past the bit I got to in summer (it's nothing against your fic that I stopped, shit got busy lol). Let me tell you I WAS NOT READY for Malcolm's little speech to Cedric in ch52. He's my favourite character and this scene just captures the exact reason why.
Also, tbh what he's saying is what I feel about my best friends. I love your representation of the fact that you can love someone so damn much and have it not be romantic. Getting into a relationship isn't a 'level up' from best friends, it's a completely different thing and you can love your best friend just as much as your partner.
Knowing that people come back to my work o reread it makes me feel so honored.
Malcolm is my favourite, I have said it before and I will never get tired of saying it. He is highly inspired by my best friend, and their friendship is so like the one I have with her. She was actually the one who taught me the meaning of true, deep and real friendship and I am so happy you have that too. It's not always easy to find.
I just love that both Harry and Cedric know how important their best friends are to each other and don't feel threatened. And how Harry and Cedric's friendship had always been a little different.
It ain't no lie, baby, bi bi bi ♫
I put the cards
over the table
for you to see it
and the game ended.
Someone might think
I'm the one who lost
but I'm not.
There are no winners
nor losers
in love.
Just players.
And I would do it
again and again
with somebody else.
Part 1
His father embarrassed Cedric when the topic of conversation he started upon meeting Harry was about the match they had played against each other, and he completely put aside Cedric's part where he established how their victory wasn't fair. He insisted that the best man had won, and words that once might have made Cedric feel validated now pained his expression.
"I'm sorry, my father…”
"He's proud of you," Harry said, not looking upset at all. “So you're gonna tell your grandkids about that match?”
“If I end up having those.”
"I imagine it as: children, Grandpa should tell you that once... a long time ago, when you weren't born... I beat Harry Potter in the most unfair way possible... and nobody let me correct it."
Cedric burst out laughing.
“Sounds pretty close to how it would be.”
"I would be honored if you tell your grandchildren about me."
“I'm sure most people will.”
Harry shrugged as if replying yeah, but still.
"If I had to tell them about a match, I'd prefer it to be a better one," Cedric admitted, somewhat intimidated because he suddenly thought that he would say: your grandfather was not only a friend of Harry Potter, but he had a little crush on him! Unrequited, of course. And there was the fact that he couldn't imagine a woman with whom he had children in the first place. “This year we’ll play on opposing teams again.”
"It will be difficult to play against you."
It didn't sound like the reason was his incredible flying skills.
"Would you let me win again?" Cedric teased sweetly.
"Only if you catch me if I fall again."
The subtle pressure on his chest was because he definitely would.

I totally love rewriting the canon moments <3
