[2022] 'tis but a scratch!
those are both redraws of smth I did for goretober back in 2019 (which I'm looking forward to redraw again, because it looks bad enough already)

I decided to conveniently combine these into one post (sculpting my favorite vrchat avatar)
Hey Hory ive been following your blog for quite a while and i was always impressed by how creative with many crafts you are. Recently i also noticed that you do 3d art as well? I really wanted to ask you how did you learn it (i think blender was it?). And whether you had any tips for beginners like me cause its a bit of a struggle to even start.
yeah, I really like making stuff!
I've been learning Blender for 3 years for uni, but we haven't gotten any serious assignments until recently, so it's been around 6 months or so since I "properly" got into 3D and became more comfortable with the software
the classes provided me with the basics, then I learned a lot simply by working on my projects and helping some colleagues to pass
for the tips.. I think in the very beginning the most important thing is to remember, that it will take a lot of time to get familiar with Blender, as it is one hell of a tool - you can basically do everything with it, so it's very easy to get overwhelmed and/or distracted by the interface alone - just pretend you don't see all the weird options and focus on the very basics, like getting comfortable with the navigation, using the basic shortcuts and working in edit mode
other than that I think it's like learning any other skill: find something that you like and try modeling it, for example try to recreate your room, then a very simple character from a media you like (or an oc), etc.
just start - obviously you can find and follow some tutorials you think are fun or look for some inspo for beginner friendly lowpoly models you'd like to recreate - then, as you go, simply google any problem you encounter (the net has all the answers)
long story short, find something that will be very easy to make, but also satisfying for you to look at when you finish - I think that's the best motivation
I was really really hoping I would do arctober, but I can't do much, so here's the shittiest and most out of focus (just like how I'm feeling) proof that I tried (Piltover and Zaun)
had many ideas, but it turns out I'm suddenly not able to draw the simplest thing (I will keep trying, because I also wanted to make some crafts)
