I was once in this old English play called Emma in high school. There is this one scene where two characters are on a carriage with one guy pulling them around. Well someone in the crew didn’t move one of the chairs from the previous scene. So the guy pulling the carriage is trying to make his way around the stage while trying the avoid the chair left in the middle of the stage. It became known as the phantom chair.

In the same play on our last show everyone decided that we had nothing left to lose and improvised everything to hell and back. I was playing a larger than life character called Mrs Elton. In one scene I take the beloved chair of the main character’s father. The thing is the guy who plays the father is one of the funniest theatre people I know. So when I took his seat he proceeded to try and fight me. My best friend playing a different character is holding this man back. So the audience is seeing an old man kicking and punching air being held by another dude while the woman who took his seat is completely unaware. The audience was losing it with laughter, and it was taking all my self control to not look behind me or laugh.

But I think the funniest interaction I ever had for this show was offstage. The guy who played my husband was this extremely bulky and muscular football player. While backstage he told me “I’m warning you now that most girls tend to fall in love with me.” My response? “You don’t have to worry about that I’m a lesbian.” His face immediately lit up and he said “Oh! Okay!” I think that actually helped us act like a husband and wife because he didn’t need to worry about me reading into him being very extravagant while being my “husband.”

Apparently my director went to see a production of West Side Story a few years ago, and the guy playing Chino forgot his gun before coming out for his final scene. Once it got to the big scene where he is supposed to shoot Tony, he screeched “Poison Boots” and kicked the actor playing Tony until he went down. The girl playing Maria then had to jerk the shoe off of Chino’s foot, and had to do the gunshot scene asking “How many kicks Chino? How many kicks, and one kick left for me”. 

I saw the Wicked movie with some of my family over Thanksgiving (it was amazing). My cousin knew almost nothing about it other than it was a Wizard of Oz prequel about the Wicked Witch of the West. In the beginning of the movie, when Elphaba and Glinda met at Shiz, he looked at my sister and asked, “Is it just me or does feel like everyone is racist against Elphaba when they talk about her green skin?” My sister, who is a huge fan of the musical and had seen it live, just looked at him and said, “You have no idea.” Bro hadn’t even gotten to the conflict with the racism against the animals and he understood that something was going on in Oz.

Guess who was woken up at 12:30 am by a friend because a tornado came through my area early Wednesday morning! The sirens and phone calls didn’t wake me, but a knock at my door did! Luckily it touched down in the next town over so I was safe. But everyone still needed to evacuate to the basement, which was chaos. We had 6 cats and 2 dogs in the room at some point. One of my friends couldn’t find her roommate’s cat carrier so she just wrapped the cat in a blanket burrito and struggled. Eventually we all went back to our rooms at 1:00 am. So that was fun!

today my bf and i were talking about visiting my home for the holidays and i was (sadly) wondering aloud if i should cut my hair and our kid was like "why would you cut your hair??? your hair is cool" and not knowing how to explain it to him i said "my family doesnt think boys should have long hair" to which he went silent, wordlessly pulled out his phone and then swiftly held it out with a picture of keeanu reeves on his phone

If your plot feels flat, STUDY it! Your story might be lacking...

Stakes - What would happen if the protagonist failed? Would it really be such a bad thing if it happened?

Thematic relevance - Do the events of the story speak to a greater emotional or moral message? Is the conflict resolved in a way that befits the theme?

Urgency - How much time does the protagonist have to complete their goal? Are there multiple factors complicating the situation?

Drive - What motivates the protagonist? Are they an active player in the story, or are they repeatedly getting pushed around by external forces? Could you swap them out for a different character with no impact on the plot? On the flip side, do the other characters have sensible motivations of their own?

Yield - Is there foreshadowing? Do the protagonist's choices have unforeseen consequences down the road? Do they use knowledge or clues from the beginning, to help them in the end? Do they learn things about the other characters that weren't immediately obvious?

I just realized that Bubblingtoe and all of her siblings have a type. They like widowed mothers. Bubblingtoe’s current mate Shimmerdart had a litter with her late wife. Her siblings Frondtwist and Lupineleaf both were mates and had kits with queens who joined the clan with their kits. They’re all disasters apparently.

I’ve been playing a lot of Clangen and one of my cats is one of the biggest disaster lesbians I have ever seen. Her name is Bubblingtoe. Her current mate, Shimmerdart, rejected her twice because Bubblingtoe decided to ask her out while Shimmerdart was still grieving her dead wife. One of those rejections was on the same moon Shimmerdart’s wife died!! She also has a decent crush on a cat named Flaxspots, who is the widowed wife of Bubblingtoe’s dead brother/litter mate. Like girl, why the heck!

I kinda want to do this, but that would bring attention to all of the unfinished works I have.

In Adventure Time Jake, a dog, and Lady Rainicorn (a Korean speaking unicorn thing) are married and have babies called corn dogs. One of those kids ends up marrying and having a daughter with a bear. Jake himself is a hybrid because his dad fucked an extradimensional entity. They had no fear in this show.

I’ll never understand why anthropomorphic animal cartoons like Robin Hood and Zootopia will go to the trouble of creating character designs that are meant to be understood as “attractive” or even “sexy” to the human audience but explicitly avoid showing interspecies romances between anthropomorphic animals. Why is THAT weird but, like, trying to make rabbits recognizably sexy-coded to humans isn’t?
