the real reason why they didn't use this design is because TWO nerds with terrible clothing combos would've been too much
My personal goal is to try and make fanfic binding as accessible to everyone as possible, so here are some resources on how to make a fanfic hardcover for under $25.
This is a barebones bind for the broke college students and such. Happy to field questions, too!
Here's a proposed budget breakdown:
Loosely organized thoughts:
Fanfic bookbinders often share typesets amongst each other. Never pay for a typeset for a fanfic.
You'll hear a lot about grain direction for your printer paper, but as a newbie on a budget without your own printer, settle for some nice 92 bright paper. If you like the hobby, splurge after but expect to pay at least 2-3x more for short grain paper.
Printing is a pain because some copy shops won't let you print intellectual property smut, and it's very expensive. You are better off bartering instead or looking for a free printer on Buy Nothing.
You know the thick paper wrapping that comes with online orders? It's a good weight for endpapers if you need to scrounge. Paper grocery bags or gift bags (birthday presents) might work, too.
Ask your local library to give you covers from books they are throwing out. Ask for outdated textbooks (those covers are built like tanks) or three-ring binders that are too busted to be binders anymore.
Obtain a used book that was mass produced (so your destruction of it does not impede anyone's access) and maybe even become a little vindictive with it.
If you can afford it, I recommend the Olfa SVR knife (~$10)
If you can afford it, upgrade your ruler to a t-square.
I really hope this resource is helpful! I want to stress how possible this is and encourage people to cherish what they love through art.
If you are interested in fanfic binding and have a little more disposable income, I have an affordable Fan Fiction Bookbinding Starter Pack that I carry on my site. I pack them myself and drop them 1x/month on the 15th.
Hi dear donors ! ❤️
I would like to extend my thank and gratitude for the support you have been offering over the last eleven months. ❤️☺️
My family and I have been suffering and going through the hardest days we have ever experienced in our life . Things are very hard to get and and sometimes unattainable.😭😓
Our sufferings and hardship started on the first day of the war when all our possessions were completely destroyed and burned. We have become displaced and homeless , finding ourselves in a small tent in streets with no means of life. We lack every single necessary thing of life; food, water, hygiene essentials, and other necessities have become scarce and rare.
Our life has been tough and harsh all the last time. No cooking gas , nor cooking tools exist . We struggle to prepare a small meal of food.
No bakeries are available. Everything seems hard and unbelievable.😭
This is a part of burying the dead. We also face some problems in the process of buying our dead people as no place is there for the family. Tombs aren't for the number of people living on a small spot of land.
All what we need is to survive the war and be safe. We are trying to secure the daily basic living necessities and this can come true with your contribution and support. Please don't spare this moment of supporting the people in need in Gaza in this tough and dire time. You can help us by either donating however small it is or sharing my posts. Your support makes a big difference for families in need.https://gofund.me/7e428359

from an indie author who's published 4 books and written 20+, as well as 400k in fanfiction (who is also a professional beta reader who encounters the same issues in my clients' books over and over)
show don't tell is every bit as important as they say it is, no matter how sick you are of hearing about it. "the floor shifted beneath her feet" hits harder than "she felt sick with shock."
no head hopping. if you want to change pov mid scene, put a scene break. you can change it multiple times in the same scene! just put a break so your readers know you've changed pov.
if you have to infodump, do it through dialogue instead of exposition. your reader will feel like they're learning alongside the character, and it will flow naturally into your story.
never open your book with an exposition dump. instead, your opening scene should drop into the heart of the action with little to no context. raise questions to the reader and sprinkle in the answers bit by bit. let your reader discover the context slowly instead of holding their hand from the start. trust your reader; donn't overexplain the details. this is how you create a perfect hook.
every chapter should end on a cliffhanger. doesn't have to be major, can be as simple as ending a chapter mid conversation and picking it up immediately on the next one. tease your reader and make them need to turn the page.
every scene should subvert the character's expectations, as big as a plot twist or as small as a conversation having a surprising outcome. scenes that meet the character's expectations, such as a boring supply run, should be summarized.
arrive late and leave early to every scene. if you're character's at a party, open with them mid conversation instead of describing how they got dressed, left their house, arrived at the party, (because those things don't subvert their expectations). and when you're done with the reason for the scene is there, i.e. an important conversation, end it. once you've shown what you needed to show, get out, instead of describing your character commuting home (because it doesn't subvert expectations!)
epithets are the devil. "the blond man smiled--" you've lost me. use their name. use it often. don't be afraid of it. the reader won't get tired of it. it will serve you far better than epithets, especially if you have two people of the same pronouns interacting.
your character should always be working towards a goal, internal or external (i.e learning to love themself/killing the villain.) try to establish that goal as soon as possible in the reader's mind. the goal can change, the goal can evolve. as long as the reader knows the character isn't floating aimlessly through the world around them with no agency and no desire. that gets boring fast.
plan scenes that you know you'll have fun writing, instead of scenes that might seem cool in your head but you know you'll loathe every second of. besides the fact that your top priority in writing should be writing for only yourself and having fun, if you're just dragging through a scene you really hate, the scene will suffer for it, and readers can tell. the scenes i get the most praise on are always the scenes i had the most fun writing. an ideal outline shouldn't have parts that make you groan to look at. you'll thank yourself later.
happy writing :)
just gonna reblog this for myself lol
it's genuinely so helpful!
For anyone who makes Gravity Falls fanart, having this is absolutely AMAZING!
ugh i had to record a video of me giving an introductory speech, and holy shit my teeth are so fucking yellow lmao
like we're talking alastor levels of yellow
it also doesn't help that i'm feeling super dysphoric from having to actually talk on camera and show my face, without being on testosterone yet.

So i did a fanart challenge thingy and drew shane, and i've decided that i'm gonna draw him more pudgy than what i usually do
i've been trying to be more diverse with the bodies that i draw, (since up until recently, it's been skinny twinks and beefed up guys (absolutely nothin wrong with that ofc, i just wanna get better with different body types, and different characters in general)), and i feel like shane would be a good starting point
like the guy lives off of beer, pizza, and pepper poppers, he's probably gonna have a dad bod lol
and ig this is also a way for me to come to terms with the fact that i'm not skinny, and probably will always be a lil chonky. by drawing people with bodies more like mine, it kinda helps me to hate myself less, if that makes sense.
thank you for coming to my ted talk
you will be rewarded with chonky shane
#you didn't have to make me cry like that
idk how many days I'll be able to do cause I have school and stuff :/

Leon: Happy anniversary...
Leon then drinks some alcohol sitting next to Luis' grave.
Guys, I would like to point out another important factor of what's going on in the USA the past few days/months.
A lot of websites are having more censorship. There's fascism. Shitty things are happening, yes?
You all know that because you live there. There was a 14 hour tiktok ban. You're sharing pictures, you're using rednote, you're expressing concerns. You're being ragebaited by AIs, put on watchlists, banned and flagged and more.
I only know this because I'm on tumblr, which so far doesn't seem to be censoring much. The more censorship there is... the less anyone outside of the USA will know what's going on.
Even within the USA, those not affected by certain things will become completely unaware of it's existence. Things like transgender bathroom right, disabled marriage disability, the cruelty of Autism Speaks or Salvation Army, all these things will be forgotten. Nobody, unless directly affected, will know what's going on. Allyship, to any minority, is going to massively sink. Advocating for any minority is going to become much, much harder.
If at all possible to any of you, I really reccommend getting out of that country while you still can...
And don't you guys dare like this without reblogging! Even if you're not USAmerican!!!!
