the pipeline from "undiagnosed but something is definitely wrong" to "diagnosed but my parents don't believe it" is very real, be warned

i think haters of the secret history just dont understand the point of the novel. its supposed to make you hate the characters. its about the dangers of living for the aesthetic. you dont like how charles' character progressed? Yeah neither did i that was the point. its such a cleverly written novel and theyre such deep characters. take charles again for example. in the beginning his drinking problem wasn't even a problem, it was just a silly quirk of his personality and something that made him the way he was but slowly it became a huge problem, sending him to jail and then to hospital and causing camilla to get unto a lot of trouble with henry and damaging his relationships with francis and Richard, and ultimately causing Henry's suicide. its about having awareness of the concequences of our actions. while it would have been nice for the fully good characters to have killed the inherently bad character of bunny and gotten away with it aided by a clever plan then lived happily ever after that would have destroyed the point of the book. it reflected reality and i think that was one of the beautiful things about the text along with the way it was written (donna tartts prose is unmatched. fight me.) . also the way the characterswere from a moral standpoint changed drastically too. the pov of richard made us agree with the rest of them thanks to the manipulation tactics from henry and while he is the most unreliable of narrators this adds to the effect of the novel.

anyway my opinions on this are VERY strong and i could go on for hours

The Forest

This time of year, my room smells of the forest

The basil and mint that grows there

Crammed into the bark of the trees

Further down there's dirt and other things.

The purple plants that the bees love

Whenever I slept I smelt the forest

Even when I hardly slept

Or maybe thats what sleep smells like

Basil and mint.

Maybe, too that's what it looks like --

Serene like the closely packed trees

Webbed with sweet smelling flowers

Glittering with morning dew

It was nice, to go down there,

Waiting for the sun to set

Cast its pale glow before bathing us

In shining darkness

As we looked up

Our eyes went as far as they could

Then the rest we imagined

If we missed a day, there was always the next

And if we missed a year it didn't matter,

The forest stayed firmly put

Waiting

The basil and mint grew and died and grew again

The sun kept setting

The bees kept coming back

The purple plants kept flowering

The street lamp flicks off at dawn

Turns on, that's twilight.

No one looks up.

Pushing ahead.

The smell of the past is everywhere

Basil and mint lingers on clothes

The smell of too long waiting

Between them, the trees and the sky

Filled the view, but still, we imagined.

Whatever was left was ours for a while

But soon the moon will send the seas

And where we live will flood

Coiling around the forest floor

Paying the sky the compliment of reflection

I went back but didn't stay

Everything I remembered was gone

Dissapeared

Into a place that doesn't exist

The one we dreamed about

Beyond the forest.

I had to see if the sun still shone

Rose tinted hues

If the leaves still glistened

With the mirage of dew

The forest is achingly terrible

After years of waiting

It tells the truth

Green in spring

And white in winter.

As a fic writer, i need every reader to know that:

I don’t care if your comment is coherent. I know what you mean and i love you

I don’t care if you ramble. I read every word and i love you

I don’t care if you leave a comment on a fic from four years ago or leave comments/kudos on like ten of my fics in one go. This isn’t IG, pls stalk my AO3. I love you

I don’t care if you mention the same thing in your comment that four other people have already mentioned. It’s actually really useful to know what resonated with people and I love everyone who takes the time to tell me they liked a particular turn of phrase

I don’t mind if your comment is super long or just a couple of sentences, i love them all

I love you

You have to notice the good things. You must. Or you will be consumed by the bad things.
