The Journey of Return

After fifteen months of forced displacement, we returned carrying hope, but what we found was harsher than we had imagined. Our homes were no longer homes. They had become silent ruins telling a story of loss. There were no longer walls to protect us nor windows overlooking the dreams we had grown up with. Every corner here whispered the pain of memories, the sound of laughter buried under the rubble, and the warmth of family that had become just a memory.

We walked 11 miles, nearly 18 kilometers, carrying what was left of our lives on our shoulders, treading over harsh ground that seemed to reproach us for our absence. The road was not just a distance. It was a lesson in patience and resilience. Our bodies were exhausted, but our souls burned with longing.

Today, we stand on this land, trying to gather what remains, to start again despite the pain. But the truth is, we can't do it alone. We need a helping hand, support to rebuild our lives as they once were, or even better. This land has suffered just as we have, yet it still holds the potential for life. And so do we… we just need someone to believe in us, to help us rise again.

The other children in Mahoud's family are Retal (12 years old), Joud (11 years old), Nageh (8 years old), And Yusra (10 days old)

"I don't know if these words describe the horrors of what colonialism is doing to us: hunger, fear, displacement, and killing. Do you know that we feel death every second? Do you know that time is passing? We are still living the nightmare every day. I wonder, will we die? No one will know about us? I am truly tired. My soul has become destroyed and worn out. In order for me to describe the horrors of what is happening, I would have to write a story that would take 18 months to recount the horrific memories that are happening to us. Please contribute to spreading my story. My family and I can survive. My family and I can travel. My sick brother, who has become disabled, can be brought back, and my father can be treated. Please hold my hand and fight for me. If I get out, I can take my high school exams after they were refused in the Gaza Strip, depriving me of an education for two years. In Gaza, people are subject to degrading and dehumanising conditions every single second. They are forced to witness and experience things their minds cannot even comprehend, let alone cope with. No Palestinian will come out of this genocide the same. If the litteral genocide isn't enough for you to take action, I fear to imagine what will. They don't know if they'll be alive tomorrow, THEY DONT KNOW IF THEYLL BE ALIVE TOMORROW. Helping I so easy, it only takes a few minutes to just donate to share, do their lives not matter to you?
