I do too, since Cyrus owns an entire server. Plus she was able to stall the Overlord's advances in the digiverse by writing a computer script on the fly, so I imagine she's well experienced like her creator.
ngl i picture pixal knowimg more abt the internet more than zane no elaboration
A lot of people's issues with modern D&D would be immediately fixed if they accepted the game for what its rules actually say the game is trying to achieve (even though the rules are usually not vocal about it and you kind of have to divine that purpose).
Like, a lot of GMs seem to stress over making their games challenging enough but not too lethal because if the dreaded TPK happens or a character dies before fulfilling their personal arc then the narrative momentum of the game dies. But like:
Death is pretty much the only consequence of note in modern D&D. It might not be a fun consequence but without it you lose all tension
The fact that death is always on the table should be an indication that the game itself does not care about narrative continuity nor your characters' personal arcs.
Despite all the modern guardrails and mechanics like bonds and ideals that are supposed to add character death, D&D is ultimately a "some assholes go to die in a ditch" type of game. And that's okay. But playing it as a "I must preserve narrative continuity and make sure characters stay alive or else my plans are ruined" game means an uphill battle against the game itself.
I'm so glad Kai and Jay's character habits makes someone else as insane as me (/positive)
I like all the instances of Jay giving someone a little wink as a means to show support
Wouldn't be surprised if it's something he picked up from his dad
After being exposed to the new descriptions for Dragons Rising S2P2 without warning, I can confidently say Bro Zane is gonna do bum fuck nothing
I miss the soft British inflections in Zane's older voice :')
@nyasyang you might've meant the "I sense" compilation as a joke, but I will take any excuse to make a list, so Ta Da!
Here's a compilation of every time Zane says "I sense"
A few notes:
I didn't include any shorts in my checks
In Possession ep 7: The Crooked Path, he says "My senses pick up" which I didn't add to the compilation because it's a bit too different
In Skybound ep 8: The Last Resort, Echo Zane says "I sense", but I didn't include it because he is a different character
I did not (could not) check DR s2p2, so don't worry
One small thing that bothers me whenever I rewatch this particular moment in the series: At the end of "Day of the Great Devourer" after the Great Devourer has been defeated, the others discover that Master Wu is, in fact, NOT dead. We see them shout enthusiastically, and begin running towards him. Several members of the group raise their arms up and out while running, and then we cut to Wu also spreading out his arms. It looks, for all the world, like they are about to hug the shit out of him. The group then slows to a stop just in front of him. No hug. Am I the only one who noticed this? Is it weird that it bothers me? Is it part of the teapot joke?
stop-motion (FLASHING WARNING just in case)
Echo does a butterfly origami : )
Kai's voice actor has pipes
Also, not very important but among the ninjas who has the best singing voice?
Jesse
Sorry people, gotta go with Kai (Lloyd, bizarrely, is a close second cuz of the dishes song. Then Jay and Zane cuz of that one short)
when you slow down this scene, there's a little detail that–while not really noticable–arin's reactions are a little later than the rest, and his facial expressions shift alot moreso than the others, showing how he's probably pretty unfocused
and with that detail, kai seems to be the one who's the most focused, as even nya and lloyd's expressions occasionally shift (lloyd being the most out of the three of them), while he stayed unchanged the entire time
Here's something I think about.
In the first part of the pilot, Kai has to pass an obstacle course before Wu finishes his tea. Kai eventually accomplishes this by knocking the tea cup out of he hands, which is super clever! But Wu scoffs as he heads inside, which means that he probably didn't intend for Kai to do it this way, but still found it acceptable. So here's what I wonder:
How did the other ninja pass that test?
My favorite thing about the dance sequences in this episode are all the subtle variations. It would have probably been easier for the animators to sync the character models to a uniform set movement but even in the final performance there are all these little details given to each ninja that really brings the whole episode to life
For instance here you can actually see Zane has his foot raised off the ground
I also noticed that occasionally he and Kai get ahead of Jay and Cole (with Zane being slightly faster at moving towards the next pose)
The start has Cole's stance as the widest, which makes sense because he needs to stand out for his own true potential episode!
I don't know what any of these moves are called, but I think it's interesting how Kai is more dramatic with the way he raises his shoulder- compared to Jay, whose performs the same move at a much softer angle

THE KAI DRAGGING GOT ME SO BAD 😭
I HAD TO EDIT THIS
Some of these look like menu options from a KFC joint lmao
Ras is still going? That is one tough tiger to kill. Can‘t confirm anything about the veritability of these yet
Me reading that:
I love that, according to tommy andreasen, jay regularly harasses the mailman
It's sweet that in this passage the narrator is Cole. He sounds so fond.
I love that, according to tommy andreasen, jay regularly harasses the mailman
I like all the instances of Jay giving someone a little wink as a means to show support
Wouldn't be surprised if it's something he picked up from his dad
Let me introduce you to... a typical Ninjago season :
Lloyd gets kidnapped at least once
Cole adopts some traumatized kids / creatures he found in a forgotten, lonely place
Jay becomes the leader of a cult or something
Zane "dies" for the 182737492th time
Nya kicks something (or someone)
Kai runs straight into the danger powered with raw confidence and survives only by pure luck
New outfits for everyone
The animation had another glow up
Jay and Cole are paired for a mission but they have the worst influence on each other's dumbness and mess up so bad you wonder why they're still allowed to work together
Kai tries to show off but miserably fails
Lloyd thinks he's Steven Universe and tries to redeem a villain
Jay spends 99% of his screentime uncontrollably yelling
Wu reveals crazy family lore he was hiding since forever
Kai gets rejected by Skylor
Cole wants cake. Now.
Lloyd gets more daddy issues than he already had (you didn't know it was even possible)
Star Wars reference
Wth is Garmadon doing this time ?
Nya is constantly on the verge of committing murder
Kai bullies Jay
Pixal somehow manages to stay calm
Lloyd is still in his angsty teenage era except he's now a grown adult
Zane is silly, the worst things possible happen to him, then he's silly again
There's another plot hole but the lore is so crazy already no one is gonna care
Shout out to Ninjago City citizen still living here knowing their lives are in constant danger every single second they stay in this place
Nya and Jay keeps being the only healthy stable romance in the whole show
Dareth unexpectedly ends up being useful
Lloyd do the thing with his eyes when it's getting serious (you instantly start screaming)
Kai says "fiyah"
"Yep so I saw [a main character] falling of a rock so they're definitely dead." "But maybe they..." - "NOPE. THEY'RE DEAD" - "aww ok" (they are, in fact, alive)
The team yells "ninja, go !" at least once
Characters are listening to music. It's The Weekend Whip by The Fold.
Why does someone has to stay behind and why is it Zane.
"You know I'm very old I'm gonna die soon" has said Wu every single day of the past 100 years of his life
Nya builds crazy vehicles again
This is a found family trope and they want you to know it
You spotted a pride flag in the background of a 0.5 seconds action scene and you already know the homophobic fans are going to lose their minds over it again
Snakes. Snakes everywhere.
A villain has the most brutal death on screen and you wonder how th this got approved for a kid show, until the show itself makes a joke about it
"Gasp ! Are we... Gonna lose our powers ???" (no they won't)
Jay's parents are in danger
Crazy plot twist happens and you suddenly realize it's been foreshadowed every single season in the previous 10 seasons but you never paid attention to it until now
Something that happened in a previous season gets referenced and you nostalgia cry about it for a whole episode
"Omg, was that the last and final season of Ninjago ???" (no it wasn't, nothing can end this show, we'll all die way before it does, now get ready for the next arc because it's probably gonna last ten more years)
"where's Zane?"
Quick Jay, think of a convincing lie.
"over there!"
hot take: lloyd in crystalized was not out of character. my reasoning for this is... actually there's a lot of reasoning. one of the biggest complaints people have about crystalized lloyd is how he treats his father in comparison to early seasons lloyd and to that i say: early seasons lloyd had not been disowned nor had he been beaten half to death by his father. i don't think i would be as willing to work with my father had that happened to me. his reasoning (garmadon being oni) may have been flawed, but i also think he was putting his own personal reasonings (being disowned and almost killed) behind, and attacking the thing that didn't include how he was treated.
i understand why people would be mad about lloyd attacking the oni side of his father, given the fact that mystake was amazing and also sacrificed herself for him, but when people are trauma responding, they tend to forget the good things and focus on the bad. lloyd didn't want to bring his own feelings into it, because he has invalidated his own feelings. therefore, he attacks the thing that has nothing to do with him.
DISCLAIMER: i am not attacking nor am i intending to invalidate people who think that lloyd suffered "character assassination" in crystalized. i just feel the need to give my own opinion about it. i will most likely talk about this topic again because i am so passionate about it.
Not all heroes wear capes
i know this is a super controversial hot take but it has to be said: vex ningajgo
an: despite having another multi-chapter in the works, i’ve been secretly working on a mini-sequel to Meet Again. the final result will be a one-shot, but i’ve finally finished the first part, so i’ve decided to post it as a preview here!
(slight warning: this preview is more than 3k words long).

JADE | QUIET
The story broke a year after their return as ninja.
Cole tugged on the sails of Destiny’s Bounty, turning them northwest. The wind was strong; it wouldn’t take long to reach their destination. What awaited them, he wasn’t entirely sure. He only knew that its prospect filled him with dread.
The laws of chronology dictated that Cole was 3129 years-old. In appearance, he looked no older than twenty-one. He had lived through thirty-one lifetimes. Some were happy, some were sad, but most were lonely. Until now, he had long since accepted the latter as a permanent symptom of agelessness. It wasn’t very often that he got to live his days surrounded by friends.
It crushed his heart to know this was the last time it would ever happen.

I'm so emotional about season 1 Nya..... like here she admits to spending hours trying to find a plausible theory as to how the tombs are arranged. Despite the fact that they alienate her to the point where she feels compelled to make a secret identity, Nya's always been there to do the type of analysis and research the ninja used to struggle with (they did not have the best discipline at the time)
