Dragon Ball Fic Idea

OUAT Opinion

I hate the idea that Hook went to Neverland because of Emma, in fact I don’t really like how their entire relationship was established. They had way too little screen time to show anything properly building, the entire thing felt way too rushed. Which is unfortunate because I do actually like their dynamic as a couple. Anyway, Neverland, Hook didn’t go because of Emma, he went because of Neal/Baelfire and Milan. Henry is Milah’s grandson! Of course Hook wanted to save him, he’s a part of the woman Hook loved for three hundred years!

I don’t even know why I still care about this, I stopped watching OUAT after all the Frozen bullshit and it’s seriously problematic on a lot of levels, I’m not even sure I like any of it anymore.

MCU Spider-Man

So this is really late but I was thinking about Civil War and wasted opportunities recently. They should have had the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man be the one introduced, with maybe Tony going to his dorm or apartment to do the whole “I know who you are come to Germany with me” thing. They could have had Flash as his best friend and Zendaya playing a kick ass Mary Jane Watson. I can’t get over how the Michelle Jones character was just so bland and a waste of her talents. Also all the other MCU casting has been horrible, and yes I mean Tom Holland too.

Fanfic Complaint

Why is Peter Parker infantelized so often in fanfic? When has he ever acted like any of those portrayals in the comics? And I don’t count obvious pandering like certain stories in the post Raimi era.

Peter Parker is a sarcastic asshole who gives ridiculous nicknames to his friends and doesn’t know the meaning of minding your own business. He loves his friends and family deeply and is incredibly overprotective of them. He’s also insanely overpowered with most of the people he’s facing. Spidey isn’t an Avenger who faces galactic wide cosmic threats, though he’ll help out if they need him. Spidey does the every day stuff, street crime and weird criminals with powers who like to dress up and make a show of it all.

And Peter Parker certainly is in no need of Avenger parental figures, he has Aunt May and Robbie Robertson and Curt Connors and even J Jonah Jameson. The entire idea of the gross Dad!Tony and Son!Peter and Superfamily stories make me want to scream.

Naruto Fic Idea

There are a lot of time travel fix it fic, and even a few time travel nothing was wrong fic, and it occurs to me that both perspectives could happen depending on when in the Naruto timeline the person travels back from. So, Obito is dying at the end of the fourth shinobi war and pulls some crazy something or other and travels back in time along with everyone else from Team Minato at the point of their deaths. So Rin and Minato are obviously on board with this, Rin just committed suicide after the Sanbi sealing and Minato just turned his son into a junchuuriki, they both think Obito died at Kanabi and it takes a while for everyone to figure things out. So three out of four are thrilled with the chance to make things right, but then you have Kakashi. Kakashi has lived through all the wars to see all of the hidden villages find real genuine peace and see the end of the shinobi era. As far as he’s concerned despite his regrets and all the pain it took to get there, the word ended up as good as it was going to get big picture, he just died in his sleep, at peace with his incredibly long life, he was probably like 90 something which is an insane age for a shinobi to be, let alone dying of natural causes. Then he wakes up as a ten year old in the middle of war and he is absolutely pissed. Minato and Rin have no idea what’s going on because as far as they know Obito gave them a huge chance but Kakashi is so done with everything, he’s an old man, the word isn’t his responsibility anymore but now it is, and he’s the only one who knows how good it could be if a very particular set of events take place, the peace is strong and sturdy when he dies but it’s beginning is so so fragile, and now it’s all on him to make sure it happens. So, of course, he just wants to rip Obito a new one, the incredibly selfish bastard. No one has any concept of the type of peace Kakashi knows, for Minato and Rin, peace is just Konoha not in active war and Obito doesn’t really care about anything except screwing over Madara and Kaguya. It’s all on Kakashi to make sure they get to what he got to live, but he’s really fricken old and is just so tired.

Frustration of a Fic Reader

One of the most frustrating things about reading fanfic is finding a story that has a really interesting sounding premise, or is one of the very few about a rare ship, only for it to be really poorly written. This is even worse with small fandoms because you’re completely starved for content but what little you have isn’t any good. I don’t have the ability to look past grammatical errors and shitty dialogue to enjoy what good there does exist. So it’s there but I can’t enjoy it and I don’t really have any other options.

There’s also the frustration of stumbling across a really good story far too soon, when it only has one or two chapters. With official webcomics or a webnovel, there’s a schedule you can rely on for releases, but with fic, you’re stuck waiting in ambiguity until the writer posts. Though, at least this frustration is balanced out a bit by the feeling of excitement you get when you’ve got that email in your inbox giving you a new update. I love that feeling, brief as it is.

One Piece Thought

Don’t know if there’s anything out there that contradicts this but as far as the main manga goes, Luffy met Shanks when he was about 6 or 7 and living in Foosha village. He went to stay with Dadan afterwards and lived mostly in her care until he was 17, but what about before? I think it’s pretty common fanon that Luffy was mostly cared for by Makino and was otherwise some kind of wild village child. We also know that he had to have been with Dragon for at least a bit before being handed over to Garp, but we don’t know what age that happened at, only that Luffy was young enough that he didn’t remember his dad at all. So here’s my thought, what if Luffy was, like 3 when he ended up on Dawn Island? That young enough to not have any permanent memories. I don’t know, I just like the idea of Dragon actually getting to raise his son for a while. Maybe Dragon decided to take Luffy to Garp after Luffy’s mom was killed in a raid or something. There’s just room to play around with things.

Naruto Thoughts

It’s kind of funny to go through AO3 and see how pervasive certain canon has become that has either been implicitly or explicitly contradicted by the text. Little stuff and big stuff scattered throughout.

Like, how everyone assumes Kakashi only read Icha Icha, but I’m pretty sure the implication is supposed to be that, during the bell test, it was his first time reading the series. Then there’s all this stuff about how Kakashi never taught Team 7 anything just because we never see it in the page. It’s pretty clearly implied that time has passed between the bell test and the Wave Arc, with the assumption being that training happened during that time. I think Kishimoto just doesn’t like drawing training scenes. Then there’s the bit about Sakura being super weak, like yeah, she’s not written super well and she’s definitely weaker than the boys, but her standard is still super human. Sakura, even in the first half of the manga, would be able to beat any regular person without any kind of problem. Sasuke seems to lose a lot of personality too, he didn’t get all stoic until after the time skip, he’s actually pretty expressive throughout the first half. Then there’s the idea that Naruto was outright abused by the citizens of Konoha. Okay, so we have no idea how he was taken care of between baby to kid in an apartment, but there’s nothing to indicate that he was treated nearly as horribly as a lot fic seem to write him to be. In the flashbacks it looks like he was pretty much the target of a lot of neglect and poor treatment with a lot of glares and people talking badly about him. But I don’t think there’s any evidence he was physically harmed. Not that abuse needs to be physical to be bad but people seem to really like to turn Naruto’s backstory into just the worst. The Sandaime might have made a lot of mistakes, but I don’t think even he would have allowed Naruto to be the regular target of people throwing things at him and feeding him rotten food. I don’t know, it’s just kind of funny how things got all twisted around in the fandom.

Scooby-Doo AU-ish

Velma is a conspiracy theorist and cryptid obsessed, fascinated by all myths, legends and folklore and even the mention of magic of any kind. Sure she’s a scientist, but that just means she wants to figure out how and why the magic works, it doesn’t make her a sceptic.

None of the gang are sceptics, they can’t be, not when they go around with a talking dog familiar and his lanky warlock companion.

Shaggy’s the only one who actually has any magical ability but it’s Velma who’s figuring out how he can use it. He found Scooby when he was seven, playing in the woods behind his house when suddenly there’s this little brown puppy smiling at him and talking to him. Shaggy didn’t think anything of it, Velma became obsessed with figuring out what he was, Fred went into denial about if for a solid year and Daphne just shrugged and said that the talking dog was weird but cool and moved on.

Daphne has always been good at accepting things that most people would be stopped in their tracks on, Shaggy too, of course, Velma and Fred are the ones who need the explanations, though Velma will accept a magical one while Fred would prefer an actual scientific one. He’s a mechanic and an engineer kind of person, strictly in the confines of the hard sciences even though the life he lives means he can’t deny the fact that science isn’t actually the end all be all.

It was Velma’s idea to start the road trip the summer after they finished high school, she was determined to find an explanation for Shaggy and Scooby. There were rumors and stories about the supernatural all over the place and it gave the gang some vague goals for the trip. Daphne, always looking for a reason to get out of her too big too quiet mansion of a home, was all for it and Shaggy has always been willing to go along with Velma’s schemes. Fred was the one who took the most convincing, but he came around eventually, like always.

The road trip became a tradition, any time they had a long enough break between their classes at university, or cooking school in Shaggy’s case, they hopped into Fred’s van and headed out to see what kind of adventure they’d get into this time. Sometimes they stumbled onto real magic and sometimes they didn’t, but an adventure was an adventure either way.

Velma became incredibly skilled at detective work, Fred grew increasingly able with trap building, Shaggy practiced his magic and Daphne had all sorts of chances to use her many eclectic skills.

(Growing up the surprise child of a rich couple with five already grown daughters led to a wide range of lessons from sewing and music to fencing and martial arts to literally anything she wanted to try out ever.)

Mostly the gang just lived their lives, it just so happened those lives included jetsetting around the world and dealing with an absurd amount of insane mishaps.

Crossover Fic Complaint

I find it really annoying in fanfic, usually crossover or oc’s, where the writer has whatever character see right through a secret identity, it happens all the time with Superman and it’s mostly just a way to make their preferred character look smarter than everybody around them. There is nothing wrong with Superman’s secret identity.

OUAT AU Idea

Killian and Liam are the sons of Wendy Darling and Davvy Jones. At some point Wendy and her brothers end up back on Neverland, only they’re all older and for Wendy that makes her an adult, not something welcome in Peter’s Neverland unless you’re a pirate or a member of the tribe. She’s not welcome with the latter so Wendy becomes a pirate, taking up the moniker she’d thought up for herself so long ago, Red Handed Jill. With James Hook gone the Jolly Roger has been left adrift, none of its crew willing to take the captainship.

When Jill steps in they’re tired enough to let her take command, especially after she promises to help them leave Neverland. She keeps her word and they end up leaving in what is probably a fascinating story that involves Wendy sending her brothers back to England and Peter being forced to give up the title of Pan.

The Jolly Roger ends up in the Enchanted Forest realm and they sail there for a while as pirates until the ship is destroyed in a battle with another pirate ship, the Flying Dutchman. Jill and the surviving crew members, one of which is Smee, end up on the Flying Dutchman with the option of joining the crew or being run through.

Over time Jill and Davvy end up falling in love and he extends to her and the other interested crew members the situational immortality his magic blood and bond with his ship allows. They sail together for decades, Jill becoming known for her love of obtaining book and amassing a great collection. Eventually they choose to settle down and Davvy sends the Flying Dutchman off...somewhere. Jill and Davvy have two children before some kind of event happens that forces them to leave the boys to take care of it. They intend to return but don’t make it and Killian and Liam are left as orphans.

From there their canon story occurs, mostly as is. Malcom takes over Neverland as the new Pan and Killian, after losing his hand, decides to take after the man of his mother’s stories and takes up the moniker of Hook.

The England that Wendy is from isn’t the same as the England of the World-Without-Magic, but is instead a close copy where all the famous fictional stories and characters set in the “real world” take place, like Sherlock Holmes, Alice, Jekyll and Hyde, Frankenstein (who doesn’t live in a world without color and doesn’t try to bring his brother back, it’s the actual book), etc. So, basically Killians is actually familiar with the geography and some of the history of Emma’s world, but he keeps that to himself since you never know what could come in handy.
