Seeing this picture made me think that if Uncle Iroh had a phone it would be filled with Zuko's silly pictures. Uncle would consider all of them cute and he would gladly show them to the gaang. Meanwhile, Zuko would die from embarrassment.
Anyways I'm talking about Anya again.
She's allowed to be terrible. She's also actually a good nurse. Someone not being able to complete that doesn't mean they don't know how to do their job. It could have been many reasons and based on what we know, mental health very likely played a part of it. She kept Curly alive for months and the condition he was in, that would not have been possible if she didn't know her shit.
If she had been alive, it's likely she would have been able to save Daisuke too. But I feel like it's also important to point out that most of the guys on the ship didn't seem to believe in her, one way or the other. And how that takes a toll when you are in a medical position especially, it's not a great mix. Anya had self esteem issues, for very valid reasons might I add, and yet no one once again advocated for her. As much as I like some of the others, they are responsible for her death. Every single one of them. Even Daisuke. He has less responsibility compared to the other three, and he still counts.
All of them to some degree didn't do what they could have. Swansea seemed to come around at least a little, I still believe he was angry for her. But what he said to her first, was an issue. He did belittle her some, he does that with everyone sure. And he still did it.
Curly is self explanatory, he didn't do what he should have the second he knew. He didn't do his job as a captain and as someone who knew her personally either.
Jimmy. I mean. A fork is in the kitchen here.
Daisuke didn't say anything. It was his lack of words that makes some of it his responsibility. I understand he is the role of the younger guy learning what to do from the older ones, so he just goes along with it. And he still could have tried something. Even talked to her and said he believed her and would try to help. He didn't.
Anya is a victim, all of them are, and she takes the cake. She's allowed to snap. She's allowed to be terrible. She's allowed to lash out. It doesn't make things right, but what are you gonna do when nothing is right? Her worst moment happened, it happened and no one addressed it. It happened and she has to live with it. It happened and where she would be standing, no one cared. And I fully believe Jimmy did it more than once.
Anya shouldn't be glorified or put on a pedestal of victimhood. She's one of the rawest forms of a victim of SA and potentially abusive relationship I've seen so far. She does deserve a fucking vaction, and one can dream. The take away I'd also like to see from this game is why that couldn't happen. Because understanding that can help you understand people who do experience that, who have had that happen. She couldn't get a happy ending in game because no one was willing to help her get there. This was the only end.
