Ok, I think I got everything? @minzart
There are still imposters and humans. However the non-human characters in twst are still their respective races. Our Savanaclaw boys are still beastmen, Octavinelle still mermen/merpeople, Diasomnia still (mostly) fae/fey, you get the idea.
Well, not exactly.
In this au most of our twst boys are imposters (you'll find out why not all of them are imposters in a moment). I'm going for a kind of uncanny valley vibe where they do look like humans/beastmen/merpeople, but aren't actually that.
Anyway.
Imposters can take the shape of other races without issue and doing this is their natural way to live. Some have take certain preferences to which race they mimic, which has given the imposter race unofficial 'subspecies'ânicknames reallyâcalled beastmen imposters, mermaid/mermen imposters, and even fae or fairy imposters. Most of the time, when an impostor chooses their first form to take, they don't change it again. (This explains why our twst boys still look like themselves, and if for one reason or another they need to look like someone/something else, they can just shift back)
One of the few things that is different from an impostor and their mimicked (e.g. who or whatever they have mimicked) is that their eyes' scleraâif their current form has eyesâwill always be black.
Nobody knows where the imposters came from. It is suspected that they simply boarded a ship that had landed on what was thought to be an uninhabited planet, and spread out from there. The first know reports of them were received from a number of different ships within the timespan of a few days to a few weeks.
All imposters are incredibly smart, it's what let's them blend in with the crew on a ship and not get caught. Nowadays, if you encounter an imposter on a shipâwhether or not you realize itâit is more than likely that they are not new to traveling within a group of other races.
Thankfully, imposters don't eat just humans. They can, but usually it's only the particularly hostile imposters that do. Those kind of imposters are usually a little less than sane (none of the twst cast fall into this category, don't worry) or absolutely starving. They can eat other kinds of meat as long as it is raw, if they eat cooked meat it can make them nauseous.
Like when choosing a form to take, each imposter has a preference for what food they eat. Some will prefer raw steak and others prefer fish, it's unique to every imposter.
Most will try to avoid eating crew members, ever since the imposters snuck onto the ships they have figured out that as long as they don't eat any of the crew, they more than likely won't get caught.
Imposters tend to either travel alone or fall into groups of 2 to 3, however there are exceptions to this. If an impostor or imposters are... docile enough, they can and/or will adopte other kinds of races into their group.
Despite most imposters being relatively peaceful, their less than good first impression left them with a (metaphorical) bright red label on their name marking them as extremely dangerous.
Due to this, most people who are in a position of power have aimed to catch and experiment on at least one imposter. With the main goal of trying to weaponize them.
The impostors are not only in danger of getting thrown off a ship through the air lock, but also in danger of getting kidnapped by officials of the Galactic Empire (or whatever is running the show here is called) to be experimented on.
This is where Yuu and most of our non-imposter twst boys come in.
It is their job to make sure that the impostors don't get snatched and weaponized by official hands. They are apart of a group that prioritizes their safety, however, if they know an impostor can handle a situation they don't step in unless it is absolutely necessary.
It was founded by someone who wanted to protect the imposters (or at least those who deserve it) from an undoubtedly horrible fate. No normal citizen knows about the group, only the Galactic Empire's officials and people who deal with mostly illegal business do.
The Galactic Empire ever-so-fondly calls the people apart of the group I.N.2
Imposter Number Two.
The difference between a normal person and an I.N.2 is their pupils. I.N.2's, due to having two (screens/chips/contacts/etc.) implanted into each of their eyes, have white pupils (because why not? :p).
These implants let an I.N.2 see how dangerous an impostor is or can be. At the edge/corner of their vision numbers will show up when they are looking at an imposter, showing things like how dangerous they are and how hostile they are.
(At some point I'll draw what the eyes for imposters and I.N.2s look like, it'll probably soon lol)
(I'm still debating if I want magic to be a major thing or not. I'm mostly leaning towards having magic still exist, but it can only be used in small proportions for select peopleâunless it to someone's unique magic or it's people like Malleus and Lillia who are both fae and very powerful. Sebek might also be adapted to using magic, just not nearly as powerful as Malleus or Lillia, but better at it than most people with it. Imposter or not, if someone has magic then they have magic I guess?)

So prison au- what ifâŚ.. natural disaster? I live where blizzards and tsunamis alike (plus earthquakes, avalanchesâŚ.) are a potential thing, but any kind- something that keeps at least a skeleton (heh) staff trapped there, power out, inmates increasingly agitated, possibly the usual rules are slowly slipping out the window for survival reasons- or because a lot of the staff abandoned the inmates there when the last minute warning came in. What would MC do? Would there be risk of a riot, or would the guys simply casually break out to get to her to make sure sheâs safe, get food, keep her warmâŚ.. etc đ canât help but imagine sheâs the type to try to stay and help even if the place is being abandoned in panic because criminals or not, theyâre people, dammit-
OOOOOOOOOo
Mc is one of very few staff members who stay behind. She knows a natural disaster could result in any number of serious injuries and there needs to be at least one medial professional on hand. Most guards and staff, knowing that a total blackout would cause a lot of cell doors to open, decide to save their skin and just make sure the front gates are bolted behind them- but she knows these are still people. Sheâs not going to leave them to die.
Sans: He thinks itâs very sweet that she wants to stay, very kind of her, proof that sheâs wonderful. But he disagrees entirely, he tries his damnedest to convince her to leave and might even get the closest heâs ever been to angry with her. Why should she care about the stupid prison population? Sheâs better than them. Sheâs an angel. Sheâs better than all of them. Theyâre all criminals, heâs a criminal, she should be making sure sheâs safe and saving herself like the others. When itâs clear sheâs not going to do that, he settles for making sure sheâs safe, and puts himself in charge of resource management.
If he canât get her out, heâll just show her exactly how intelligent and useful he is. A well-organised ideal partner whoâs calm in a disaster.Â
Red: Red is absolutely vital to the safety of any staff who chose to stay. They know it, he knows it... he already has experience with controlling the prison population after all, this is nothing new to him. In fact, heâs in an even better position than before, because there are no guards to intervene; if he or his gang attacks someone thereâs nothing to stop him from killing them. The prisoners already respect and fear him and now thatâs just increased tenfold. With the majority of the guards having self-evacuated, the remaining staff approach him and, sheepishly, request his help... like approaching a mob boss for protection.
If this situation had arisen in any other circumstance he wouldâve demanded a lot of nice things in return for their safety. A protection fee, if you will (old habits die hard). But... heâs acutely aware of Mcâs presence- heâs aware sheâs probably pretty frightened right now. Heâs aware that what he does in this situation could heavily, and maybe even permanently, affect her opinion of him. So, despite his deep-rooted instinct to take advantage of the moment... he agrees to protect the staff and keep order for free.
He might teasingly request âpayment kissesâ from her. But thatâs more for the sake of lightening the mood.
Skull: Mcâs personal bodyguard for the entire duration of the disaster.
Not wanting him trapped inside his room if something terrible happens, Mc lets him out, under the condition he behaves and does what she says. He never leaves her side; he looms over her shoulder, always within armâs reach of her and often holding onto her shirt like a lost child. If anyone comes too close or anything seems like it could be a threat he lashes out with his trademark brutality... heâs also very particular about her looking after herself, sharing his Sans-rationed food with her and bundling her up in blankets if she ever falls asleep. The other two skeletons dislike the amount of contact he gets & the obvious intensity of his feelings, but thereâs not much they can really do... itâs best to let him have what he needs. Besides- the longer heâs around her, the more lucid and reasonable he seems to get.
For a little while, Mc is the most powerful person in the entire prison without even realising. Sans defers to her, and he controls all the food and water and materials. Red defers to her, and he decides whether her and her colleagues live or die via his chokehold on the prisoners. And the only thing standing between the prison and the force of nature that is Skull is his love for her.
Mc: If you do that again I will throw you out the fucking windowâ what are you doing.
Ace: Checking how high the drop is, to see if it's worth it.
Is it bad that I just... I just wanna be some sort of mermaid that can go from the shallows to the deepest parts of the unexplored ocean? Like, I've looked at pictures of the ocean where you can't see the bottom and I just... I just really wanna be some sort of mermaid and go wherever I want.
Not taking any chances
It took you a shockingly long time, to notice the changes.
At first they had been so little that theyâd been all too easy to miss, and even once the changes started to slowly become bigger and bigger, many of them remained rather simple to gloss over or explain away.
In all honesty, a large part of you had simply assumed it was because of the company you kept, and in a way⌠you were right. Though it hadnât quite been in the manner you had thought it was.
Many people around here, thought you were strange for choosing to remain in your isolated little house out in the woods, especially when it was so much safer in town, where there was the silent comfort of being in numbers. Had they known that the very reason they feared living where you did, was the same reason you loved it there, there was no doubt in your mind that their worry would have quickly turned to hostility and suspicion.
As it was, you doubted they were going to be fooled for much longer.Â
And it wasnât like youâd ever particularly cared anyway.Â
In all honesty, youâd never felt like you belonged there in the first place, and staring into your bedroom mirror, you knew there was no way you could even pretend to fit in there anymore, even if you had wanted to. Though you werenât entirely sure when it was that the changes to your self, had become so drastic.
Over the years youâd spent living out here, youâd befriended many of the denizens of the forest, and had steadily gained the trust and favour of the vast majority of them, almost entirely without trying. As a byproduct, you had been gifted many blessings, all of which had steadily built up over time, until eventuallyâŚ. there was barely anything left of your humanity at all, a fact made all the more obvious by what was reflected in your mirror.
Thanks to the influence of your many non human friends, you had become somethingâŚ.OtherâŚÂ
Something that had yet to be given a name.
Something that you had just found out, was no longer even mortal.
Bird zoo AUWould the boys have met MC if they weren't at the zoo? And what about skull that lives on a mountain?
tehee
Sans: If he wasn't at the aviary, Sans would meet his darling just from living in his local forest. She has to pass through his woods in the morning to get to work, then at night to get home... though it's technically a very small patch of forest, he still has plenty of opportunities to attack her.
... But he doesn't attack. Of course. Instead, thief Sans is back! Keys, wallet, necklaces, shoes (how?!). Nothing is safe.
He plays harmless pranks by cover of night, most of which just involve stealing things from her then retreating quickly, grinning eerily from a distance until she approaches to try and get them back. The way he turns his head so slowly really freaks her out sometimes, he loves her spooked expressions... but she grows to appreciate his presence in the dark forest, the more time they spend together. He's a nuisance at worst and a welcome break from the shadows and tension at best. She knows that she's not alone, she knows he won't hurt her. And as soon as she sees the blue flash of his eyelight up in the trees, she knows she's got someone protecting her.
Red: Red fully intended to take their courtship slow. But one day, he saw her through her window, dancing and singing. And he was so lovestruck he decided fuck it, he'll just move in with her now.
... It's a perfectly natural step for a monster. Not so much for a human. But there's not really much you can do, when a huge harpy decides to make your home his home too. What is she gonna do, kick him out? His claws are the size of her head. She's got no choice but to make do.
He's... surprisingly chill, though. He gives her space when she wants it, and though he doesn't seem to be able to stop himself from preening her hair when she sits down, he shows his suitability as a mate by respecting her desire for alone time. She kinda enjoys waking up to a company in the house... she kinda enjoys how when she's sleepy, he'll lovingly play with her hair until she passes out. She likes how when she watches TV, he'll tuck a blanket-like wing over her. But most of all, she likes that since he considers her entire home his den, he's always tidying up the little things that she sometimes just can't handle.
... It kinda feels like... she accidentally adopted a massive, neat, adoring cat?
Skull: They 'met' while she was on a solo hiking trip through his territory in the mountains, and her relaxing solo hike turned into a nightmare when she realised a massive harpy was stalking her through the snow from afar. It gets even worse when she gets into an accident, becoming so badly injured she can't move... as darkness closes in around her, trapped on a cold mountain, she's convinced that this was why the harpy was following her. She's convinced she'll freeze to death overnight, and he'll pick apart her remains.
... But neither of those things happens.
Skull was following because he was crushing. Seeing her condition, he scoops her up. He finds some rudimentary shelter, a bush or a little cave to curl up in... and he nestles her close all night long. He keeps her tucked away in his thick warm feathers, where the ice can't bite her. She's even soothed into something of a sleep by the glow of his eyelight and sound of his soft, delighted cooing.
... By morning, he's able to escort her down the mountain, where he vanishes like a ghost as soon as other hikers appear. Mc wants to express her gratitude to him, though- as soon as she's recovered, she makes the same hike, this time with food gifts.
Skull is delighted she came back. Nobody has ever come back to him.

All 10 Sirocco Sister's wing patterns!
It took you several long moments to figure out that the sound you could hear ringing through the air, was coming from your front door, so long it had been since anyone had visited you here.
Bewildered, you carefully sat down your latest work, before drifting over to your cluttered entrance way and peeking through the crack in one of your mismatched windows. Though the sight that greeted you only confused you even more.
Giving into your curiosity, you finally unlatched the brass handle of your heavy old door, absently wondering when the last time you had bothered locking it properly, had been, though the fleeting thought was quickly dismissed in favour of more pertinent questions. With a gentle and practised heave, the tired old hinges gave a muted creak, the weathered wooden door slowly bowing to your will and opening obediently. An action that allowed you to finally take in the sight of your unexpected guests in full.
A strange mix of excitement and wariness filled you at the sight of them, the feeling bringing a bright and welcoming smile to your lips as you pondered the strangeness of it all.Â
It had been at least two hundred years since anyone had stumbled upon your homely little cottage after all.
I'm mostly just on here when I'm bored, donât mind me ⥠I am 18 and older, so donât panic
