Yuri on Ice movie officially dead, pouring one out for the homies. Shit's tragic. Don't even know what to say. I made my peace a long time ago believing it was doomed and an official cancelation was bound to come, but to fumble this hard is something that'll have to be studied.

Its legacy is cemented, but this is a real sour way to wrap it up. It was magical, and then it was gone. I would love to read about how this ended up in production hell. Hoping a journalist or two tries to sniff it out, but honestly I wouldn't be shocked if all parties involved are left with a bad taste in their mouth and are ready to let it rest.

I needed an extra day to gather my thoughts before I wrote this. What do I even say about man who has literally help morph me into the person I am today. Some may think it’s a little odd to get emotional over a person you have never met or better yet even seen in the public eye. Mr. Toriyama was a really private man that even people who worked on his project have never met him, but some how his worked has touched and influenced millions across the world. You can hate Dragon Ball, but you cannot deny its influence on not only manga/anime, but pop culture in general. No other series had athletes throwing kamehamehas as celebrations, or rappers using a super saiyan bar in their flow. This man’s doodle of a little monkey kid has made it all the way to nationally watched Macy’s day parade as a float! Referenced constantly in other cartoons, anime, and video games. He set the standards for transformations in anime with the creation of “Super Saiyan”, a very subtle change of the hair (something he was really good at) became iconic and many series followed it. Gear 5, 6 path sage Mode, Super Sonic, all influenced by Toriyama.

I have to talk about my own personal attachment to Mr. Toriyama’s work. I wouldn’t be the man I am today without Dragon Ball coming into my life. If I didn’t catch Dragon Ball randomly on a Saturday morning in the late 90s and then a littler later with Z premiering on Toonami who knows if I’d even be watching anime today. As a kid growing up I was hooked, I couldn’t consume enough DB content. Goodbye Power Rangers, Goku and the Z Fighters were my new heroes. Running home after school to see how Goku was gonna overcome the odds was an event everyday! Going to Suncoast (a true throwback IYKYK) and picking up the overpriced VHS tapes just to watch stuff from a 20 episodes ahead of the Toonami broadcast and sharing it with my friends made me the coolest kid on the block. Going online and printing out cool pictures of Trunks, Broly, Majin Vegeta (before they debut on American soil) and putting them in front of of my school binder was a time. The posters, figures, videos games, t shirts that my mom and now myself has spent on this product is a little ridiculous, but I wouldn’t change it.

This loss has hit me harder than any celebrity passing in awhile. This is a MJ, Kobe level loss for me. Toriyama sama I know that you didn’t interact with fan, but I hope you could see the impact you have made in this world. My other favorite Mangaka made their manga because of you. I’ve met life long friends because of you, I’m on this app weekly livebloggin anime because of you. So many people love your work and that goes beyond Dragon Ball. Dragon Quest, Dr. Slump, Jaco, Blue Dragon, and so much more of your work will forever be celebrated. You are a true legend and will never be forgotten. Thank you for everything you’ve given us. Rest well

If you've read the post linked above, you will know the website will go down officially tomorrow and we will say goodbye! Out with the old, in with the new- New years talk, et cetera! I will not return in February beyond our last preview and the website's return on March 1st!

How exciting- I'm not sure if folks are looking at this house still, but I'm content regardless to think someone is out there waiting too. I hope the change I've gone through will make these updates easier and more frequent, I love Welcome Home more than anything. But thank you for your support! I hope to talk to you in March!! Happy New Year!!! Last year was so... Bizarrely remarkable- I haven't stopped moving, So it hasn't been able to sit with me yet! (Like I always say, that's a future journal entry- This is still a journal to me, after all-)

Still, still, thank you for being with me for so long and supporting me in the most exciting year Welcome Home will probably ever experience! Everything feels quieter, I'm very happy for the calm, haha! (There's a joke about House Parties in there somewhere!) I eat the guacamole and chip quietly with Home... I'm only kidding... I don't eat guacamole and chip and I don't know if she would like it- Anyhow!

I haven't been Able to be around for much of Last Year, I probably won't return again until the next Update too! I want to place all my time on my work- I think what a great opportunity it's been to be able to write that! Though I want to say because I haven't been able to see anything and it has been some time- I hope everyone apart of Welcome Home's community has been kind, I hope it's been very fun, and I hope it will continue to look up too as the story expands! However, I also want to say again, I hope no one is harassing each other, demeaning each other, or being rude to others on my behalf for any reason. I hope you continue to block what you don't like, and embrace and form community with what you do and to look out for one another over anything else! I apologize, too, if that has happened in my absence, I hope this year only improves. What do I hope for this year... I want to be more organized- I want to know how to be... What is it- I want to learn how to live and to live with agency! I want to strengthen my relationship with my art too- I'm excited for that one! I want to try to be better at whatever this is, too! I don't know what to call it- Whatever Welcome Home is, haha! I don't know- Have a wonderful new year! 2024- I'll talk to you all again on the next update! Or... A little prior? I will keep us updated!

There's lots of things Jax doesn't like.

To the person too scared to try...

If you've been hesitant to do a thing, don't let that fear of being bad keep you from trying. Maybe it's a creative thing. Maybe it's a professional or personal thing. Whatever the case may be, we all start somewhere, and until we begin practicing we cannot begin growing.

I've had to listen to quite a bit of my older work recently, even work that I thought I was really proud of. BitterSweet Chapter 1 is a good example. In my head, I had told myself "that's about where I started being good" but you know what?

Not really. It's kind of rough, and that was years into my time voice acting. Listening to how I sound now, it's hard to believe that I was even the same guy. However, I couldn't have reached this point where I'm genuinely proud of my work and believe in its quality if I didn't begin all those years ago.

Going all the way back to the beginning, it was really not great, but you know what? People enjoyed it. There was an audience. Not everyone was rude, or cruel, or dismissive. There were some, sure. Where are they now, though? And where am I?

It's okay to be nervous, or even fearful of attempting a new thing. It means it matters to you. It means you have a desire to be good at that thing. Let that desire outweigh the anxiety and fear of failure. Failure is just a part of the journey, and believe me when I say you'll be grateful that you started moving forward when you begin hitting those benchmarks and growing in whatever it is you're wanting to do.

I look back and I cringe a bit. We all do, in some way or another. I built a whole career off of those rough cuts, though. Those miserable takes and questionable acting choices, it was all a part of figuring out how to get better. I'm able to look back and see where I learned, how I adjusted, and when I eventually figured it out. And the beautiful thing is, there are fans of the stuff I am not proud of. There are people who listen to things I literally can't stand long enough to finish and go "THIS IS WHERE I FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS CHARACTER!!!!" and it helps me realize that quality isn't always the measuring stick we should use.

Were you passionate about what you made? Were you having fun? Can others feel the love you had in that moment, the excitement that motivated you to do that thing? There are times where all of those intangibles become incredibly tangible. Where the immeasurable matters more. Where sometimes it's just about doing it, and enjoying it, and letting go of the comparisons, the doubt, and all of that bullshit that's keeping you from reaching your potential.

I know. Wall of texts are so popular these days, but I'm hoping that this message finds the exact person who needs to see this and it encourages them to take those first steps. Good luck, and have fun!
