not to oversimplify an extremely complex discipline but if i had to pick one tip to give people on how to have more productive interactions with children, especially in an instructive sense, its that teaching a kid well is a lot more like improv than it is like error correction and you should always work on minimizing the amount of ‘no, wrong’ and maximizing the amount of ‘yes, and?’ for example: we have a species of fish at the aquarium that looks a lot like a tiny pufferfish. children are constantly either asking us if that’s what they are, or confidently telling us that’s what they are. if you rush to correct them, you risk completely severing their interest in the situation, because 1. kids don’t like to engage with adults who make them feel bad and 2. they were excited because pufferfish are interesting, and you have not given them any reason to be invested in non-pufferfish. Instead, if you say something like “It looks a LOT like a tiny pufferfish, you’re right. But these guys are even funnier. Wanna know what they’re called?” you have primed them perfectly for the delightful truth of the Pacific Spiny Lumpsucker

I love the relationship potential he has with all of the little critters in the facility, and I tend to write him a little like Laios Dunmeshi in that sense of fascination with them. Less 'eating' though, but more that general hyperfixated adoration and interest. Even if most of them could kill him. And some of them probably have, looking at you [CENSORED]. But in the meantime he's gonna just read stories to the little ones.

For a moment, Jasmine thought she succeeded, she had found her friend, but she was also quick to notice discrepancies. This Mami person (does her name mean mom or something?) can probably use magic to summon weapons, but the one she’s looking for couldn’t.

“Nah it’s fine, I’m Jasmine, feel free to call me Jazz” She scratched the back of her head

“So uhh, what was that? The place we were in with the rodents. It’s just gone after you blasted them”. Jasmine was curious, rather than distressed for someone who had been in a labyrinth and almost got mauled by rats moments ago

With its label as an evil dragon, it can practically do whatever it wants. Well, maybe it regrets things a tiny bit when consequences comes and get it, but it goes back to what it does later.

This time, it was different. A person so important, more than any gold it was offered, and- Not like it really knows value, but this person is important, and they had been taken away from it.

Now, as Jasmine (what a tacky name, but it’s one of the things left of her), the evil dragon embarked on a quest for knowledge. Inter-dimensional travel is no easy feat, how the heck Alice and Dorothy did it she has no idea. They did have some form of assistance or got whisked away in a hurricane…

All that she came across told her it was impossible, but she died a few times and came back, which is also impossible by human standards.

She just, didn’t quite expect the spell to activate so easily. Now, where the heck is she.

The place is all filled with strange and abstract objects, she can’t really make heads or tails of what are in the piles, but it’s not important. What’s notable are the wind up rodents carrying the objects and piling them. They remind her of the residents of Wonderland when Red Queen is demanding they hold a festival in her name. Gosh is she glad to be free.

Jasmine’s stomach growled a little, and she won’t deny it. If possible, she would like to have something organic for her meal. Looking among the pile, the dragon was delighted to fine a whole wheel of cheese! She promptly took it out of the pile, and all of a sudden, all the rodents turn at her, aggression clear in their body language, they start to lunge.

“Sugar honey ice tea” she was kind of hoping not to work for her food, but oh well. Fire ball it is then
