This is so real

guys this is going to sound really dumb. but. like does julian have other classes in other years? so THE greek class (richard, henry, etc.) are all in the same year of college, but obviously there are years younger than them, and people who used to be before them. like who did julian teach before them? who else does he teach if he does? this is what i’m curious about. 😔

SO much about doing well is just not even giving your brain the time to sabotage you. Like deciding to just get started on a task before your brain could conjure up thoughts like “but there’s always tomorrow” “ruminate on this pointless thing instead” like sometimes you genuinely just have to put pen to paper and do

I like the fact that Daphne Hardy gave the name “darkness at noon” for Koestler’s book because she was the first one who translate it to English and it also was the only one version of the book left after the original carbon copy was lost. Until 2015 when student found it in archive Daphne’s translation was reading around the world for 79 years. I think this is so beautiful. Oh, I forgot to say they were lovers

It’s very funny to me that the inciting incident of The Secret History is the bacchanal but we never actually get to see a bacchanal. It occurs to me that this book easily could have had a supernatural element and indeed from any other character’s perspective it likely would have. But because Richard is our narrator, we never need to question if Dionysus was really there or if the bloody cleansing was really necessary because Richard despite being a liar and generally unreliable narrator is still the most firmly grounded in reality of most of the classics class.
