When Ur Friend Makes Great Art

I’ve seen the 300 heads assignment on you insta. It seems such a hard but useful drawing exercise. What was it all about and how much time did you guys had to do it? PS. YOUr art is just amazing!!!! It takes my breath away!!!

For those of you who don’t follow me on instagram, Anon is referring to this behemoth of a midterm my class and I partook in for our Inventive Drawing class (forgive the quality) 

It wasn’t hard so much as time consuming. I enjoyed it quite a bit and found it extremely educational. Our instructor made us do it alongside our weekly assignments in an effort to teach us about animated character expressions / style. We had 7 weeks to finish 300 heads from various 2D Disney movies of our choice (again, this was alongside our other weekly assignments. I knew people who started the project the day it was assigned and others who started a week before it was due…). 

I recommend this exercise to anyone who wants to get a broad range of expressions stored away in their mind’s library. These expressions stick in your subconscious like oatmeal to ribs. I find myself channeling several expressions I saw and drew during those seven weeks all the time now. It’s a big project to take on but it’s definitely worth it!

Just because you did something wrong in the past doesn’t mean you can’t advocate against it now. It doesn’t make you a hypocrite. You just grew. Don’t let people use your past to invalidate your current mindset.

“show, don’t tell” - other ways to say “i love you”

  good morning/good night texts 

 pulling the other into a random embrace

 “this reminded me of you” 

 complimenting the features you love most about you lover

 going to hold hands in a stressful situation 

 holding their hands in general 

 “tell me about your day.” 

 saving their name as something cute in your phone

 taking pictures of each other on dates, telling the other how beautiful they are 

 “i’m here for you.” 

 doing a chore/task that you know they don’t enjoy doing

 calling just to hear their voice

 running some errands for them when they’re sick 

 bombarding them with blankets, tea, heating pads, and anything else they’d need when injured/under the weather

 knowing the medicines they’d usually take and having no problem going to get them when needed 

 getting lost in their eyes 

 reminding them how lucky you are to have them 

 peppering kisses all over

 or going in for one passionate kiss that just says it all

 cupping their cheek 

 wiping their tears when they cry  

 “you’re my everything.” 

 “let me know what you need, alright?”

i just saw an article by a nonbinary person named charles-elizabeth and i must say. the sheer POWER in that kind of name. to choose a gender-contradictory name instead of a gender-neutral name - a name that, instead of slipping between the boundaries of gender norms and carefully negotiating its place at the tipping point of gendered perceptions, is categorically unable to exist within them! i am in awe
