So it’s really interesting that the thing doesn’t assimilate Clark right? Like it spends the most time alone with him throughout the day, it had every opportunity to assimilate him.
Honestly I think that there could be two possibilities here as to why Clark is never assimilated.
1. The thing is an evil mastermind who understands that because Clark was with it all day it will foster paranoia in the others against him, allowing it to lay low as more subtle characters like Palmer and Norris. This also assumes the thing expected to be caught at some point because assimilation isn’t really a quick process.
2. The thing didn’t want to assimilate Clark because he was nice to it, nicer to it than anyone else on the base, and kindness is a language that is always understood. This isn’t to say it’s benevolent in any way, just that it recognizes that he was the kindest of them to it and it didn’t kill him for that reason.
I dunno. Just a thought 🙃

"And then the Jack O' Diamonds dies. And as his soul leaves his body to go dance with the angels, we pan up over the blood-strewn cemetery and off into the pretty blue skies of dawn. Skies blue enough to suggest that maybe there can be peace one day in this troubled but beautiful world. Maybe there can be peace because that would be good!"
