The terfbreaking tag is the perfect example of why TIMs are dangerous in women's spaces. It's just male fantasies about raping and sexually degrading women they disagree with. And that's what men do. They see a woman they don't like? They immediately come up with some kind of sexual debasement in their minds because to them that's enough to reduce and dismiss her. They use their sexuality as a weapon against women. And that's what TIMs do on here and call it progressive.
“After almost dying of influenza, prolapsing my right lung, wasting away in bed, recovering, drinking 19 gallons of absinthe and snorting pure cocain, I finally realized this!!!”
And it’s literally something I realized when I was 14 and in a literal cult based out of Christianity in which I was only allowed to read the Bible (not exaggerating) because I had a brain and I used it.
male philosophers are unbearable. So shallow yet theyre so praised to the point people will fucking worship them
what’s so ironic to me is how much prostitution enthusiasts stress "listening to sex workers"—but the moment those very "sex workers" they claim to love so much disagree with them, suddenly they’re not worth listening to anymore.
"listen to sex workers" I'm listening! are you?
Back with another alternative Unsure-if-it’s-a-hot-take-here-but-would-def-be-a-hot-take-on-other-social-media-platforms.
“Well I have to buy from (fast fashion/unethical fashion brand) because I’m Alt and local/thrift stores don’t have any alt stuff that fits my style!!!” Is complete bullshit. Make it yourself like the original alternative subculture did.
You don’t know how?
The internet has a thousand tutorials. If you’re overwhelmed and don’t know where to start you can literally DM me and I will send you some of my favorite YT channels that I learned from when I started dressing alternative years ago. A bottle of dye cost me like $8 last time I bought it, and I can use that to dye a whole bucket of clothes black, and an even larger amount of clothes if I want some grey tones and I’m not too worried about having it all completely black.
But I don’t have time to learn all that right now!!!!
That’s completely fine and understandable! I’ve been there, but it’s not an excuse to constantly consume fast fashion. Pick up one skill at a time and change your wardrobe slowly. It’s not going to be instantaneous. Also skills you already have are transferable. You like drawing/sketching? Get a couple markers and transfer it onto a tshirt, and now you’ve got the coolest shirt in the room.
But what about disabled people????
I’m going to be so real with you rn, every single disabled person in my life (even ones I just casually talk to at art markets) are the most creative people I know and this one just feels like a random scapegoat that able-bodied people throw around. I’m disabled too, specifically surrounding muscle/connective tissue function, chronic pain, and motor skills. I work at a slower pace, with mediums I know I’m good with, and take breaks, as do all my friends and acquaintances who share similar problems. If you’re disabled enough you cannot do so, this does not apply to you and I support you getting your needs met in the way that makes the most sense for you.
It’s a lot more counter-culture to just listen to the music and wear a basic pair of jeans and a shirt from the thrift that you put a skull on with sharpie, than to wear plastic crap from Shein and Temu. It’s not really raging against the machine to buy into it. Being clothed is important and a human right, however having your perfect ideal wardrobe immediately, cheaply, and at the expense of the wellbeing of either the planet or other people is not a human right. There’s a bit of a difference between those two, and you can survive in a pair of basic blue jeans, I promise you.
I grew up Catholic so I have a bit more context (which unfortunately doesn’t make it much better).
Mary Magdalene was commonly assumed to have been a prostitute (which isn’t biblically supported and actually wasn’t commonly believed until a while after Christianity was formed). Even after her conversion she’s shown as nude because it was common belief that she lived nude as penance and only used her long hair as clothing. She’s actually quite often shown in various forms of nudity and seductive positioning in her artistic depictions because she’s basically the scapegoat due to her position as “prostitute” or later “penitent”.
The mind naturally wants to think about sex after you go through puberty and your libido picks up, but in Catholicism you quite literally are not allowed to think about it at all because that counts as “adultery of the mind”. The only time this rule doesn’t count is if you’re condemning someone for sexual sins. This is why you see Catholics (and more conservative Christian groups who have this same rule) absolutely obsessed with constantly thinking and talking about and condemning other people for having sex they don’t like. Their mind craves some type of release for the curiosity they have so they become incredibly fixated on it in a negative fashion because it’s the way to get around that rule. This also leads them to have incredibly toxic sexual relationships after they enter marriage and are finally able to have sex because men have associated sexual arousal with a level of disgust or distaste for the woman.
(In addition, women accidentally get around this rule because we are taught to be constantly afraid of sexual assault sullying our virginity, so the mind often focuses upon that fear, eventually associating sexual arousal with the idea of being violated, which is why you see so many of them encouraging or flaunting violating relationships online.)
Going back to depictions of Mary Magdalene, since she was a prostitute she was the men of the time’s way of getting around that rule. It doesn’t count as them being lustful if they’re also condemning her actions even as it arouses them. It’s why she was one of the most common subjects of religious painting outside of the usual patriarchal figures and Mary the mother of Jesus. The really ironic thing is that there is absolutely no proof of her being a prostitute. She was actually quite rich and supported Jesus monetarily, but people liked to assume she got the money through dishonest means instead of through any type of skill or labor, or frankly even just coming from a wealthy family.
Anyway sorry for the rant lol Mary Magdalene was my birth patron saint, and I’m still very attached to her and upset by how much she’s been slandered by the church even though I haven’t been Catholic for years now. Hopefully it was interesting.
Mary Magdalene in the Cave by Jules Joseph Lefebvre (1876)
i’d be in a much better mood if i was kissing a pretty girl right now but okay
Or, “We wouldn’t rape you/have sex with you anyway because you’re too ugly so shut up.”
Which is such a classic male response.
tims will literally write graphic rape fantasies about women and how they want to “correct” lesbians but will throw a tantrum when you tell them that males shouldn’t be in women’s spaces
Adding onto this, “No Ethical Consumption Under Capitalism” started in the punk community/more radical leftist spaces (to my awareness) as a way to call awareness to the hidden exploitations of capitalism and urge you to look more deeply and be responsible with your actions. Sure that $65 shirt can be greenwashed and said that it was sewn in an ethical factory with well-payed workers and environmentally positive policies, but where did they get the fabric from?
It’s supposed to be a call out against the system, but then it somehow got twisted by shein-guzzlers to excuse their actions. It’s supposed to be, “The system is so fucked that we’re forced to rely on slave labor at every turn whether we like it or not, so let’s call it out and push for change and do what we can.” Not an excuse to joyfully profit off of the underpaid labor of thousands and claim that we’re all on the same level.
Leaving the house to get your Temu parcel from the mailbox and wallowing in porn is not actually fighting fascism so jot that down
"Rape me daddy 🤤😫" No dude you don't want ACTUAL rape, you want some sick ass fantasy that you've consented beforehand
If you want to be actual raped then you're genuinely sick and need to go to therapy
Rape literally makes girls kill themselves out of shame, rape gives girls PTSD, rape makes girls feel "unpure" even tho it wasn't their fault, rape + abortion ban makes women carry their rapist babies, rape ruins women's life's. You do not want that
I know there are a lot of complaints about the “Not Like other girls” era of books aimed at women, some I disagree with, some I don’t. But I’m rereading one of those types of books right now (technically re-listening bc I’m using an audiobook but same idea) which I absolutely adored the first time I read, and honestly I kind of miss that time period.
Like sure it was reductionist at times, but at least the women were unabashedly themselves and pushed back against gender stereotypes. This book is set in a fantasy past based off of Medieval Germany (from what I can tell) and with that obviously comes the sexism of the period, and she had actually realistic feelings on the matter. She thinks about how she wishes she’s a boy because she wants to have a career, specifically a farrier or a hunter, and criticizes the fact that she’s living in a society in which her value is through marriage. She’s practical minded, she looks up to her father and male relatives because she wants the freedom they have, but also feels a sense of displacement and disgust from them because of their sexism, and in general just has so much more energy as a character than I often see in more mainstream books now. And she’s STILL a woman and eventually finds her power as a woman.
Idk this is just a personal pet peeve of mine but I don’t like our current idea of rejecting surface level femininity = rejecting womanhood, either positively or negatively. On the one side you get shamed for it because you’re a pick me, on the other side you get told you’re just a man. And it’s made characters really really bland.
(Also maybe I just am the problem, idk, but I have had the experience of feeling left out and not like my female peers growing up because they were content to uphold patriarchal ideals and I wasn’t. I still put up a good effort when it came to talking about crushes and doing all the fun sorts of “girly” things they liked, but I had trouble finding anyone who reciprocated that energy towards me when I wanted to talk about my interests that didn’t necessarily fall into that category. So imo there is a kernel of truth in the “not like other girls” stereotype, not because other girls are INHERENTLY bad, but because of how our current societal pressures work on young girls.)
