In my brain, Snufkin is really ticklish and sensitive, but most people don't realize because he doesn't let them get physically close enough.

Moomin, on the other hand, used to being around warm and touchy feely people, approaches Snufkin like he would approach his friends or family. On the rare occasion Snufkin lets his guard down, Moomin finds out it's not quite the same sensation... There grows a mysterious craving that forces him to steal all the light touches he can get. But, as if they've just burnt themselves by touching a hot surface, they promptly pull away, and, just as quickly, begins to swell a feeling of cold and itching, of distant lingering.

I spent some good 20 mins deciding whether to draw them leaning on the tree or not.. decided not because idk?, I think they might rather sleep on the grass?? Maybehaps? God knows

I like to think they just stayed like that, awkwardly holding each other. No words, just uselessly demanding their speeding heartbeats to stop, battering in loud unison in the quiet of the meadow where nobody else can hear them, except each other.

[ Moomin ] - The gramophone - part 3/3

page 1, 4 panels 1. A close up on Moomin holding Snufkin's hand 2. We can see Moomin and Snufkin about to dance. Moomin's other hand is around Snufkin's back. 3. Moomin is looking up at Snufkin with sparkly eyes. 4. Snufkin is facing him with his eyes closed, amused by his excitement, smiling. He's ready to play his harmonica.
page 2. An illustrative page. Throughout the page, we see Moomin and Snufkin dancing, a subtle light wave surrounded by white night butterflies guiding the reader's eye towards the four poses. First is Moomin and Snufkin from the side, second is Moomin see from behind, third is Snufkin facing his back at us, until the've done a full turn and the last pose is supposed to be Moomin holding Snufkin's hand up to make him turn on himself. Alas he's too short even on his tippy toes, but Snufkin does it anyway. In all the poses, Moomin has always looked at his moves, making sure he's doing it right, while Snufkin had his eyes closed, concentrated on playing the harmonica.
Page 3, 3 panels. 1. A close up on Snufkin's tent's lantern. 2. A close up on the leaves of the tree nearby. We can assume by those two panels some time passed by. 3. We can see Moomin and Snufkin in their initial pose, Moomin's hand on Snufkin's side, Snufkin playing the harmonica. This time however, they're looking directly into each other's eyes.
Page 4, 4 panels. 1. A close up on Snufkin looking down at Moomin with a neutral expression. 2. A close up on Moomin lookin up at Snufkin, with sparkly eyes. 3. We see them both, in the same pose, but they both look to the side, consciously. Moomin seems a little more nervous, while Snufkin seems a little awkward. Their blush lines are more visible. 4. We can see the two, in the dark, in the distance, still dancing. We can only see their silhouettes drawn by the fire behind them. The tent and tree on either side are barely visible as well.
Page 5, 4 panels. 1. Moomin start saying, "And at the end, you do...". Snufkin opens an eye, curious. 2. Moomin finishes his phrase, "...this.", and swiftly turns Snufkin around almost horizontally, so as to keep holding him up from falling with his hand still on his back (the well known last pose of this dance, with a partner holding the other below them). Snufkin is taken by surprise, holding on tight with his free hand to Moomin's. 3. A close up on Snufkin's harmonica still in his hand, the three dots implicating the music stopped. 4. A close up on Snufkin's face, surprised by the unexpected move, looking towards Moomin. For the first time his blush slightly darkened.
Page 6, 2 panels. 1. We can see Moomin holding Snufkin in that dance's final pose. Snufkin is being held up from falling by Moomin, who's now looking down at him, while Snufkin has to crank his head up to look back at him. They're still holding their free hands in the foreground. While Moomin's expression doesn't give out much, Snufkin is looking at him with big eyes, shiny from the fire's light, raised eyebrows, the harmonica by his mouth but no at his lips, which are slightly open still. Out of the two his blush is coloured. 2. A close up on Snufkin's hat. It's about to fall back.
Page 7, 3 panels. 1. Snufkin grabs his hat first, pulling it over his face. Moomin grabs it at the same time, noting it falling. 2. The two lose balance and fall. 3. We can see Moomin and Snufkin fell. Snufkin's on his back, his had on top of his face, while Moomin fell on his stomach, his foot and knee on top of Snufkin's.
Page 8, 3 panels. 1. We can see them from behind. The fire in the background, Snufkin still on the floor, removing his hat from his face, while Moomin had already gotten up on his knees, his back to Snufkin, in the foreground. He's embarassed. - I... I'm so sorry... I guess I'm not much good at this... - No, that's not true. 2. We can see Snufkin from the side, laying on the grass on his back, his head turned to look at Moomin. He moved his hat away and has a hand laying over his chest. He;s smiling. - It was impressive. I'm glad you showed me, Moomin. Thank you. 3. Moomin looks at him and listens, with sparkly eyes, relieved and happy.
Page 9, 2 panels. 1. We can see Moomin running to his house, visible in the distance. Snufkin is still in the same pose, looking up at Moomin as he leaves. - I'm going back home, it's late. Good night Snufkin ! 2. A close up on Snufkin. Now he's looking at the sky, pensively, with a neutral expression. He sighs.
Page 10. Illustrative page. Both Snufkin and Moomin are depicted on the page, without clear separation, although they're in different places. They're both in laying positions, but shown vertically, their backs against each other. Snufkin is like before in the grass, looking up at the sky. This time his blush is back, coloured, a barely visible smile, and pensive eyes. He's holding his harmonica up on his chest, rocking it slightly back and forth as he thinks. Moomin is laying in his bed in his room, looks like he just jumped into it. He's hugging his pillow tightly against him, his feet in the air, the blanket billowing up. His eyes are happily closed, his blush is coloured now as well. In the top right corner and bottom left corner are two text frames surrounded by white night butterflies. A call back to Moominmamma's words : Truly fun... and beautiful.
Bonus page. Moominmamma is looking out a window with a happy expression, her elbows up on the sill to lean her chin on her wrists. We can hear a sleepy Moominpappa but not see him. - Do you see him ? - Yes dear. He's coming home. - Hm, good...
