Tumblr users are often so arrogant and it shows. They can draw a full cast of POC characters but when POC say "Hey we want more than just our skin tone" they're suddenly deaf as shit.

Representation on Tumblr has become a way for white people to win brownie points just because they took a Hershey's bar and slapped it onto a person's skin tone.

The most disgusting thing is that they insist on making JUST African-Americans. They insist on making JUST one facial type, one nose type, one lip type, one hair type, one slang type, one skin tone.

And when they make a person Asian, it's Japanese. And when they make a person Hispanic, it's Mexican. And when they make a person indigenous, they never specify on which tribe/nation they came from, but you'll bet they're Native AMERICAN.

But my favorite part is when other POC demand representation and those same fucking white people are like "But but but look at all my black characters!!!!"

POC isn't just confined to America.

POC isn't just black.

POC isn't just Japanese.

POC isn't just Mexican.

POC isn't just Native American.

It's from the Miskitu in Nicaragua, from the highlands of Ethiopia, from the deserts of Saudi Arabia, from the mountains of Indonesia. It's from the arroz con gandules, from the folk music, from the festivals. It's many cultures blending, it's speaking more than just English, it's dealing with racism unique to our countries of origin.

It's more than just one universal experience, and white Tumblr isn't willing to show that.

let your character fuck up. please. let them fuck up on a scale so massive that this particular thing cannot be salvaged. let their fuck up have permanent consequences. and stoooooooooooooooop having them being the smartest person in the room who always has a sharp comeback to put their enemies down, and who always handles their enemies with grace or at least an air of superiority that s justified because they’re so cool and smart and clever™ let them bleed for their mistakes, let them MAKE those mistakes, and let that bleeding be ugly and disgraceful. let them suffer for their own mistakes, and let them suffer in knowing that they cannot fix. and let other people hate them for the shit they’ve done, and for once let the haters not be ‘petty bad people’. Let the haters be right.

Lup and Magnus absolutely love the vibe check meme. They’ve made a game out of it, much to the chagrin of the rest of the crew.

Lucretia goes to get a mug in the kitchen, and Lup pops out of the cupboard and yells “vibe check!” while rearing back to slap. She then realizes who it is, says, “you’re not Magnus”, and tucks back into the cupboard. Meanwhile, Lucretia is shaking and never gets her mug.

Magnus sneaks up behind Lup one evening while she’s on the deck of the ship with Barry. He yells, “vibe check!” and just fuckin destroys her with a pillow, knocking her off her feet. She falls to the deck screaming in laughter, and Barry looks terrified. Lup finally looks up and goes “good one, Magnus. And, yes, Barry, I’ll marry you.” And Magnus just realizes he’s ruined Barry’s proposal and goes “woops.”

Lup is much better at the game that Magnus, since she’s sneakier, but Magnus gets a few good hits in. The first time they started playing, Magnus snuck up behind the twins as they were trying to decide what to cook for dinner. He raised a pillow above Lup’s head, said “vibe—“ and was immediately blow across the room by a powerful punch from Taako’s mage hand. “Don’t fucking touch my sister!” He yelled, and Lup, dying of laughter, had to explain that it’s a game and she’s cool with it. Meanwhile, Mangus is laying on the ground, groaning.
