Summary: Khun reluctantly dressing in pink for a Barbie movie date with Bam (he likes it in the end)
“I think this shirt is a little too small for me,” Khun complained as he tugged at the front of his shirt. It was pink. Well, it had been red when he first bought it years ago, but the color faded after the croc ruined his laundry by throwing in a towel soaked in cleaning product.
Bam was wearing a pink hoodie and torn pink jeans, and he looked comfortable as can be. Khun was kinda jealous.
“You had time before the showing to pick up a new shirt but you insisted you already had one.” Bam grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the theater.
“And I do.” Khun pouted, but let himself be dragged.
“I promise you’ll enjoy the movie and forget all about your shirt. C’mon!”
Khun grumbled, but followed his boyfriend. They melded into the crowd full of people who were also wearing pink.

By the time the movie ended, Khun’s discomfort was long forgotten. Hearing Bam giggle and sputter had been a treat, and he admittedly found a lot of it pretty ridiculously funny himself.
“So? What did you think?” Bam asked, squeezing Khun’s hand as they followed the sea of pink out to the parking lot.
Khun shrugged. “It was funny.”
Bam nudged his side playfully. “I heard you laughing multiple times.”
Khun pulled him closer and put an arm around Bam’s shoulders. “Alright, it was really good. Not award-winning good, but… pretty entertaining.”
Bam laughed and leaned into his boyfriend. “That means a lot to me. Thank you.”
Khun smiled and let Bam lace their fingers together. “I’ll try anything for you.”

Summary: Bam is oblivious to his own pining.
“I brought you something.”
Bam looked up from his book to the plastic container holding a beautiful rainbow-decorated cupcake. He quickly shoved a bookmark in, shut his book, dropped it on his lap, and extended his hands, fingers wiggling excitedly.
Khun chuckled as he handed the container over.
“Thank you, Khun-ssi! You spoil me.”
Bam scooted over and Khun took his place next to him as he opened the container.
“You deserve that and much more.”
Heat rose to Bam’s face as he carefully lifted the cupcake. Little gestures, gifts, and words; Khun was always gentle and affectionate with him. He cherished every interaction because they made him feel loved. They made him feel human.
Bam took a tentative bite and savored the sweet, thick frosting coating his tongue. He hummed with delight.
He glanced at Khun, who was watching him with that look he’d learned was for him alone. His lips quirked crookedly, eyebrows low and relaxed, eyes fixated on him. It was an expression filled with a helpless adoration.
The heat spread to his ears, and he preened at the attention. From anyone else, he would be squirming with discomfort, but Khun… Khun was different.
Khun was someone he could see himself falling in love with.

Recent discourse reminds me of that cult indoctrination trick that's often used to weed out more difficult marks early on, where they tell you all that you aren't allowed to eat rice on Tuesdays and then if you protest they go "wow SOMEBODY likes rice a little much huh" as if you're the fucking weirdo who cares too much about how much rice is consumed between Monday and Wednesday instead of them.
And this forces you to decide whether your autonomy matters to you more than the approval of the group - while they'll still act like you're on thin ice either way, if you give in at this point they know you're theirs forever, because now they've established a foothold, you've shown a moral weakness, which they will brand you with so it can be used against you in the future ("hey RICE-addict here doesn't want help break into the city records office") to force you to double-down and isolate you further.
And if instead you do decide to push back further, after your abrupt departure from the group ("You're seriously leaving us over RICE?!? Seriously?") and subsequent ostracism, you can then be used as a demonstration to the others who were more pliable, of how the outgroup is full of people like you who are obsessed with violating the No-Tuesday-Rice rule to the point where they'll abandon all their friends, who cared so much for them, so it clearly isn't an arbitrary restriction, you're the kind of monster these rules are intended to protect them from, thus all the other wise and esoteric precepts of the charismatic leader are implied to be equally justified.
Do you ever binge read someone's work on ao3 and get the urge to serenade them, like, hello my fair fic author you have wooed me with your excessive flowery metaphors and complete lack of plot, even your messy 3am fics with very visible flaws are gorgeous, your self indulgent dynamics have enchanted me, please accept my kudos
