albeit the lines of your friendship were quite blurred, it still confused you as to why riki was suddenly adamant on having your hair tie on his wrist at all times. given, you know, that it would be basically telling the world that the two of you were dating.

GENRE— fluff, highschool au, friends to lovers

WARNINGS— lots of touching, jealousy, mutual pining but they are both oblivious idiots, cursing, toxicity (they are huge haters imo), kissing, slight making out (?), let me know if I missed any!

WORDCOUNT— 6.4k

NOTE— fluff is my biggest enemy, so this was quite the challenge for me. bnd ver posted here!

YOU AND RIKI WERE CLOSE. Too close, according to the rest of your friends.

You both had been best friends since kindergarten, the story of your meeting never failing to tear a chuckle out of anyone who heard it.

You were three years old, having arrived at kindergarten a few minutes ago. You were scared to go and talk to the other kids — what if they were mean? What if they laughed at your pretty bows? What if they didn't want to play with you?

You sat in one corner, away from the other kids, playing with a small doll. Amidst your playing, you saw little feet approach you. You looked up, noticing a boy of your age. He stared right back at you, before pointing at you. “You are going to be my best friend!”

The boy had later introduced himself to be Riki, and you both had truly become best friends. The two of you were together through thick and thin, never leaving each other's side. There were no secrets between the two of you, the thought itself incredulous. You both were best friends, why on earth would you both hide something from each other?

Your bond was unbreakable, something that left many writhing in envy. How come you both were so close, never able to leave each other's side?

With a good bond, comes judgement. Judgement by others, assumptions about your true relationship.

While you both were close, not everyone knew that you both were best friends, right? To any stranger, you both were the embodiment of 'siblings, or dating?'.

While you both bickered and were playful enough to be termed as siblings, the way you both acted with each other, often left people confused.

See, your love language was physical touch, while his was acts of service. After spending so much time with each other for all these years, you both were bound to rub off on each other, weren't you?

His hand was almost always on your waist, or your shoulders — didn't matter where you guys were, or what you were doing — it was always there. If somehow he forgot to put his hand around you, you would loop your arm around his, or intertwine your hands. It was cute, definitely very cute, but — the extreme couple energy that you both excluded was insane.

It didn't help that you were often touching him, skinship being basically your second nature. You were always fixing his hair, his clothes, touching him while you were speaking to him, while you were laughing with him — how could you both expect anyone to believe that you weren't dating each other?

Not only that, both of you would often be seen giving each other random gifts, without it being a special occasion. You were often seen giving Riki a chocolate at a random time of the day, while he was often delivering milk to you. If anyone asked, he always had the same excuse: “She doesn't drink enough water, she needs to stay hydrated”, while you always said “he likes chocolates, is it so wrong of me to give chocolates to a friend?” Needless to say, they always backed off after that.

It was only after a certain set of incidents that everyone finally had something to confirm that yes, you both were indeed more than friends.

JUST FRIENDS — N.rk

IT WAS A QUARTER PAST SEVEN IN THE MORNING, fifteen minutes left for the start of the first period. You and Riki had arrived at school just five minutes ago, with his hand around your waist as usual. The two of you were giggling at some tea you were spilling regarding a relationship between a senior and a sophmore, since you were physically incapable of keeping things from him. Just as you were getting to the good part of the gossip, one of Riki’s friends from the football team ran up to the two of you. Jake.

“Hey lovebirds!” Jake cheerily waved to the both of you, his tone teasing. You simply rolled your eyes with a smile, having gotten used to the antics of his friends. “Riki, dude, I'm gonna need a favour — one of our frontiers is absent, and none of the subs are available. Please help us out for today's match — I promise I'll make it up to you, even if we don't win. You will even have a customized jersey for the match, which you can keep with yourself permanently–!”

Riki hesitated, his grip on your waist tightening slightly. “I don't know, I was planning on leaving early with ___ today, to get ice cream and all…”

You immediately pinched his hand that was around your waist. “He means yes, we can always reschedule the hangout.”

Jake's eyes lit up. “Really?! Thank you so much, you have no idea how desperately we needed another player — I'll go tell the others now, you can come and practice with us during recess!”

Just before he could leave, you halted him, getting out of Riki's grasp. “Jake, wait–”

He stopped on the spot, looking at you with a confused gaze. “Something wrong?”

You stepped forward, brushing some hair out of his face gently, smoothing the slightly messy hair on top of head. You took a step back. “There you go, the mess was bothering me.”

He blinked, a faint red coating his cheeks and creeping up his neck. He was well aware of your touchy nature, but this was the first time he was on the receiving end of it, hence his flustered state. “O-Oh, thanks — I- I'll go now–”

He quickly turned on his heel and left, a light jog evident in his retreating figure. You turned back towards Riki, a smile on your face. “Let's go to class, or else we might be late.”

He nodded, his arm looping around your waist once more, guiding you around the busy halls, to class. You couldn't help but notice the slightly tighter grip he had on your waist, or the way his expression was different than his usual when you turned back towards him.

JUST FRIENDS — N.rk

CLASS WAS BORING AS USUAL. The two of you sat at the back of class, messing around as usual instead of studying. Yet, there was something amiss.

Usually, Riki was a lot more playful, a lot more relaxed and free around you. Currently however, there seemed to be an air of hesitation, reluctance around him. His smile didn't exactly reach his eyes, his laughter feeling forced.

‘Maybe he just isn't feeling it today?’ was what you thought, so you didn't bother asking. You knew if something was seriously bothering him, he would have told you already.

Before long, the bell rang, signifying recess. You quickly held Riki's hand, pulling him out of his seat, and racing into the hall. You both had already eaten in class, — how you both never get caught, is a mystery you're both yet to solve — so he would have the entire recess to practice with the rest of the football team for the match that was going to take place later on.

You both quickly navigate your way to the football ground, spotting Jake and the rest of the team doing lazy stretches to warm up first. He spotted the two of you quickly enough, waving and rushing over to where you both were standing.

“Hey,” he began, a grin adorning his face. “I'm so glad you didn't change your mind — ___, you can sit on the benches and watch if you'd like, I'm sure the others won't mind! Also, coach got the customized jersey done already — no idea how he got it done so quickly — it's there in the locker rooms, so you can change into that right now if you'd like!”

You admired his ability to yap continually without stopping, making you smile a little. You nodded in his direction, nudging Riki to go and change already, before quickly walking over to the benches and taking a seat.

Soon enough, Riki was back, adorning the jersey, making your jaw drop. You couldn't take your eyes off him — you had never seen him in attire similar to that before, but damn, he sure did look amazing.

Your face flushed slightly, as you quickly tried to snap out of these thoughts. Nope, that's your best friend, you're not going to think of him in that sense.

You watched as they all played, Riki surprisingly being able to keep pace with them. You never watched him play before, the sight drawing you in like a moth to a flame. His concentration was — were you blushing?!

God, what was wrong with you? Had you been single for so long that the sight of your best friend simply practicing in the field had you all giddy?

The rest of the recess went on smoothly, with you trying not to concentrate on Riki too much, lest someone caught you with your cheeks on fire. God, you really needed to get yourself together.

Once practice was over, Riki quickly went to you, his usual smile back on face. You handed him a bottle of water, quickly wiping his sweat off him. He started babbling while you were doing so. “Did you see that? I did pretty good back there, right? Jake said that he was confident we would win the match today, and said I was better than the guy I'm subbing for! Isn't that great?”

You let out a hum, finishing wiping off his sweat. “Yea, you were amazing. C'mon now, we need to run, or else we will be late for history — you know how ma'am gets when someone is even two seconds late.”

He nodded, seemingly satisfied with your answer. He didn't need to know that you weren't exactly watching much of what he was doing, or that you were only watching him.

AS SOON AS THE BELL FOR THE LAST PERIOD RANG, nearly the whole school raced to the grounds. All the players, including Riki, ran to the locker rooms to change, whereas the rest of the students quickly found the best seats possible.

You sat at the very front, a bottle of water and a towel already in your hands. You were a little tense for the match, since the opponent team seemed to be extremely well prepared. Still, you tried to not let your mind wander, focusing on Riki, as he came out of the locker rooms, into the field.

The match started. The opposing team was putting up a good defense, but Riki’s team was able to keep up. It was hard to watch, the many nearly-goals and nearly-fouls heightening your nerves. You tried to not let them get to your head, focusing instead on cheering for Riki.

Half time arrived soon enough, with both the teams having scored one goal each. Riki came straight to you, quickly taking the bottle from your hand, gulping it all down. He gave you a sheepish grin. “Sorry, I'm really nervous for the match. The opposing team is… starting to get angry. I don't think they expected us to keep up, so they were a little dumbfounded. But now they are simply pissed — they aren't exactly known for being the fairest when it comes to playing football, and winning.”

You bit your lip, wiping off his sweat with the towel. “But they can't use unfair means to win, can they? They will get a foul…”

Your words died down on your tongue once you noticed his grim expression. “If they somehow injured one of us, leaving us incapable of playing, what is one red card going to do? They have subs available, we don't. If one of us is out, the match would already be lost.”

You didn't know what to say in order to encourage or comfort him. You knew that the reputation of their opponents wasn't the best, but there was nothing anyone could do, other than to stay safe and try their best. So that's what you told him.

He gave you an amused smile. A teasing glint appeared in his eyes.“You sound worried. Are you scared that they might hurt me?”

You scowled at him. “This isn't a joke! They could actually injure you, can't you just give me your word that you will at least try to stay safe?”

He let out a small snicker, before giving you a mock salute. “Of course ma'am. Just do me a favour, will you?”

You tilted your head to the side. A favour? Now? You decided not to question it. “Sure I can. But it depends on what it is.”

He grinned at you, before pulling his jersey off him, revealing a plain white t-shirt underneath. That explained why he was sweating more than the others. Who even wears two layers to a football match?

He shoved it in your chest. “Wear it, and cheer for me.”

You gave him an incredulous look. “No way! It's literally drenched in your sweat.”

He pouted, giving you a pleading look. “Please? For me? It's only for an hour and a half, can't you do it? I'll feel a lot more motivated then. C'mon, just do it, please–”

You groaned at his incessant begging. “Fine! I'll wear it — just… ugh, help me out with it–”

The grin on his face grew, as he quickly helped slide the jersey onto you. He proudly made you twirl for him, with you hiding your face in your hands from the utter embarrassment of it — but complying nonetheless. Unbeknownst to you, a smug smirk adorned his face, as he locked eyes with Jake in the process, who quickly looked away, his ears turning red at having been caught looking.

The whistle sounded again, signifying the start of the second half. Riki quickly left, the hurried ‘good luck!’ that you threw at him bringing a smile to his face.

You watched as he advanced into the field with renowned vigour, the determined expression on his face soothing your nerves slightly. You made sure to cheer for him even louder than before, the grin that he threw your way making it worth the looks that were shot in your direction.

But the opposing team did not relent. Eager to match Riki's newfound enthusiasm, they changed their strategies. The brutality in every move that they made caused your anxiety to spike.

Riki's team, however, didn't let it deter them. Everyone was determined to win, to not succumb to the team that always tries to get their way through unfair means.

Speaking of unfair means, the attempts at making foul moves increased ten-fold. Many of the players in Riki's team were almost injured, but somehow they managed to avoid it at the last second. Why the referee wasn't giving any yellow cards, was beyond your imagination.

The clock was ticking down. Not a single goal had been made. The audience was starting to lose hope, the enthusiasm in their cheers starting to fade. You made sure to continue screaming, cheering them on as best as you could. In the midst of it all, Riki glanced at you. Upon seeing the expression on your face, he made it his personal mission to win. He had to, for you. He wasn't going to disappoint you, he swore to himself.

With a determined look, he surged forward, trying to get to the ball. Jake had the ball, and he locked eyes with him. Upon noticing the younger’s determined expression, he managed to pass the ball to him.

Riki caught the ball without any interceptions, quickly racing towards the goal. He skillfully avoided all the attempts to tackle him, running as fast as possible to the goal. The goalkeeper froze, upon noticing the expression on his face.

Taking advantage of his momentary distraction, he struck. With a sudden burst of strength, he kicked the ball, watching as it flew into the goalpost, the goalkeeper just narrowly missing it.

The sudden uproar that erupted was deafening to say the least. His teammates were hugging and whooping, patting him on the back. The exhilarating feeling that came from the win, made him feel lighter, as if he was on cloud nine.

His eyes searched for you, noticing you trying to get past the huge crowd towards him. He quickly navigated his way out of the crowd, making his way towards you. As soon as he was in front of you, he wrapped his arms around your waist, making you squeal, as he picked you up and spun you in the air. His grin was wide, your own grin almost as wide as his. “We won! We actually fucking won! Did you see my last goal? I looked cool right? I still can't believe I actually made the goal–”

In the midst of his yapping, one of your friends was wiping his sweat off for him. While you tried to not let it show, you couldn't help the jealousy that flared inside you at the intimate gesture. You were supposed to do it for him, not her. Riki didn't even seem to notice, too focused on telling you the details — as if you didn't witness it all by yourself.

Unable to bear the sight of her wiping off his sweat with a random towel, you grabbed his hand, pulling him away. You both set into a sprint, away from the people congratulating him.

As soon as you reached a somewhat secluded region of the school, you turned to him, your arms crossed over your chest. But before you could speak, he spoke first, his breathing coming in short pants. “Goddamn woman, I just won a match, you're already making me run again? Cut me some slack, will you?”

You rolled your eyes, ignoring his outburst. “Why did you let her do it?”

He looked at you, confused. “Huh? Let who do what…?”

You gave him an incredulous look. “Her. You let her wipe off your sweat for you — don't tell me that you didn't notice it at all?!”

He still looked confused. “Huh? Someone did that? I didn't even realise — I was talking to you, so I was distracted, I guess. But why does it matter?”

You gave him a pointed look, frustration evident in your eyes. Why wasn't he getting it?! “‘Why does it matter?’ Because I'm your best friend! I always do it for you, so why would you let her do it as well? If I'm your best friend, then shouldn't I get treated as such? Shouldn't I be treated differently from the rest of our friends? Why are you letting her do something that only I do to you?”

His eyes widened, before he frowned. “I didn't even notice her doing it… but if I should treat you differently from the rest of our friends, shouldn't you do the same to me as well? Why should this be a one-sided arrangement?”

Now it was your time to frown. “One-sided? How is this one-sided?! I always treat you differently, how have I ever treated you similar to the rest of our friends?”

He rolled his eyes. “Oh, I don't know, maybe yesterday? When you fixed Jake's hair for him? Since when did you start fixing people's hair other than mine?”

You were at a loss for words. You simply opened and closed your mouth several times, like a fish out of water.

Riki spoke again. “How about this: I pay more attention to my surroundings, while you keep your hands to yourself? Don't go around touching other people's hair, that should be reserved for me only. Do we have a deal?”

You bit the inside of your cheek. “Fine. We have a deal.”

You usually didn't back down from fights that easily. But everything seemed to be different when it involved Riki.

JUST FRIENDS — N.rk

TRUE TO YOUR DEAL, the two of you didn't treat others even remotely similar to how you treated each other anymore. Both of you grew much closer than before. People could easily pick up on the change in the air around the two of you, the shippers going slightly insane. When were the two of you going to announce your relationship officially?

Neither of you paid much attention to those silly rumours, always dismissing the teasing. Friends were allowed to be possessive of each other, were they not? Was it a crime to want some things to be just between you guys, and not for everyone else to know and judge?

Days went by the same, the teasing never stopped. But it was always there from the very beginning of your friendship, not just from classmates, but outsiders and family members as well. Both of you had grown used to it.

Recently, both you and Riki had noticed the trend of wearing hair ties on wrists. While it wasn't an uncommon sight for girls, it certainly was for boys. What do they need a hair tie for, when their hair is so short?

It was quickly discovered that the hair ties were actually of their girlfriends’, them wearing it on their wrists being a sign of commitment — and the general fact that they had a girlfriend.

Of course, it flared jealousy among those who weren't in a relationship — including you and Riki. Both of you glared in resentment at anyone who had a hair tie on their wrist, always greeting them with a bitchy eye roll. Both of you, like every other single person, loved to hate on couples, betting on when they would break up, if they were cheating on their partner, and whatnot. You both were always met with the same responses: ‘Just wait till you get into a relationship.’

Your responses were the same too. The same eye roll, paired with a pissed off comment, either mocking them, or talking about how neither of you would ever bother with dating anyone. Everytime, you both were met with an exchange of amused glances. Neither of you ever understood that they meant when you both would get together.

It started to get unbearable after a while, with almost everyone wearing a hair tie on their wrist. It was frankly starting to annoy Riki a lot, to the point that he snapped at his friends, which was uncharacteristic of him. It was only then that the guys gave him the obvious solution: to wear a hair tie as well.

Wearing a hair tie on his wrist was easier said than done. For Christ’s sake, he didn't have a girlfriend! Why would he wear a hair tie on his wrist, when he didn't have someone's to wear?

But then a crazy thought struck him. He may not have a girlfriend, but he definitely had a girl best friend. You. He could wear your hair tie on his wrist, right?

Turns out, you didn't share the same views as him.

JUST FRIENDS — N.rk

“ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY NOT. Where did you even get this crazy idea from?!”

Riki bit his lip, rubbing his nape sheepishly. “Well — the guys keep teasing me, so I got desperate, and… uhm…”

You pinched the bridge of your nose, closing your eyes, and sighing. “Riki, you're aware that only couples wear hair ties on their wrists, right? We,” You gestured between the two of you. “are not a couple. You wearing my hair tie on your wrist would be indicating that I'm your girlfriend. Which I'm clearly not. Let's not give everyone another incentive to tease us, yea?”

He let out a groan. “Oh, c’mon, who cares what others think? We can just — make an excuse — tell them that I'm wearing it because you keep losing your hair ties, so I'm basically your hair tie holder. How does that sound?”

You gave him an incredulous look. “No one will ever buy that shitty excuse.”

He scowled at you. “Oh, like you could come up with something better.”

You nodded enthusiastically, although it was completely sarcastic. “Of course I can! We forget this conversation! Because we both know what the hair tie would indicate. Not just to others, but between us too.”

He shook his head stubbornly. “I don't care. I'm going to wear one.”

You rolled your eyes. But before you could open your mouth to retort, Riki grabbed the hair tie that you used to meticulously tie your hair into a ponytail and pulled.

You watched in shock, as your hair came undone, your hair tie now in his hand. With a smug smirk, he wore it on his wrist, showing it to you proudly, before going off to his class. “Bye ___! See you after this period!”

Oh, he was definitely going to see you. Maybe two of you or even more, depending on how hard you punch him.

JUST FRIENDS — N.rk

JUST AS EXPECTED, you both were on the receiving end of everyone’s teasing, becoming the new hot topic of your school. No matter how much you both tried to ignore it, it just didn’t work.

Questions about whether you both were secretly dating or not followed you both left and right, comments assuming the status of your relationship were thrown about casually — it was simply too much. None of your friends believed you either, their cheeky smiles and teasing comments following you both everywhere.

All because of Riki’s obsession with wanting to wear your hair tie.

At some point you both got sick of trying to clear up the accusations, just letting people think what they wanted to. After all, their assumptions and comments weren’t going to magically come true, just because they think a certain way.

Right?

JUST FRIENDS — N.rk

THE TEASING HAD GOTTEN TO A POINT WHERE NEITHER OF YOU COULD STAND IT ANYMORE, causing you both to avoid people as much as possible. Did no one understand the concept of personal space anymore? Or did they forget that minding their own damn business would always be more fruitful than trying to gather tea about other people’s love lives, or lack thereof?

Most of the time, you both hung out in the library or rooftop, sometimes even resorting to taking refuge in the janitor’s closet, that’s how much you both were affected by the constant teasing. How come everyone was so damn invested in the love life of you both, when it didn’t even concern them in the slightest?

Today was no different. From the morning, all you both could hear were comments like ‘So when are you guys planning on making it official?’, ‘When will you both drop the bomb?’, ‘Don’t bother lying, it’s too obvious that you both are super into each other.’, etc., etc. Your fist was clenched tightly by your side, Riki’s grip on your waist also tighter than usual. The urge to punch them in the faces was extremely high. When were they going to get bored of teasing you both?

In order to escape them, Woohak steered you through the crowd, escaping into the stairway. The two of you quickly climbed up the stairs, going to the rooftop. You pushed the door to the terrace open, the cold wind whipping in your faces. Riki slammed the door shut behind him using his foot, his hand never leaving your waist.

You went towards the railing, leaning on top of it. Riki finally let go of your waist, leaning on the railing beside you. Neither of you spoke, simply enjoying the feeling of the cool breeze, and the majestic view of the cityscape beneath. The cars and people looked quite tiny from up there, like ants, which was to be expected, given that your school building was eight stories tall.

Suddenly, Riki cleared his throat. He spoke up, his voice low, eyes facing his front. “Do the rumours and the constant teasing bother you too much?”

You snapped your head towards him, your eyebrows furrowed in surprise. “Where is this coming from?”

He looked at you. “You know, the constant questions and comments that are thrown in our way? It just — it got me thinking: ‘What if it all bothered you too much? What if our friendship isn’t worth all the comments and excessive teasing we face?’ Just stuff like that.”

Your eyes widened in shock. “Oh my god — don’t you ever think like that, you hear me? Just because some people like to be annoying and poke their big ass nose in our goddamn business, doesn’t mean our friendship isn’t worth the trouble. Do you really care about other people’s opinions enough to end our friendship? Just like that?”

He quickly shook his head. “No no no, absolutely not — I just thought… actually, nevermind. I thought the rumours were making you uncomfortable, I’m glad I was wrong.”

A hint of a smile crept up your face, as you looked in front of you again. “A few silly comments can never make me break my friendship with you. You’re my best friend, aren’t you? Best friends are supposed to stick together, no matter what. Through thick and thin, all of our ups and downs Riki.”

He looked in front of him again, letting out a scoff, which was supposed to be an amused one, but it came out more bitter than intended. “Yea, best friends… that’s all we'll ever be…”

The last part was quiet, but you still heard it. The tips of your ears burned, a flush creeping up your neck. You quickly tried to change the subject. “L-Let’s try something.”

He furrowed his brows, looking at you again. “Try what?”

You bit your lip, quickly trying to think of something. “Uhm — let’s climb the railing and sit on it! Sounds fun, right?”

He raised a brow. “Absolutely not. That’s the stupidest, and most dangerous idea you’ve ever had, and that’s saying something.”

You pouted. “Come on, it’s not that bad — the railings are sturdy, we won’t fall.”

Riki firmly shook his head. “Nope. You want to climb it? Be my guest. But don’t tell me I didn’t warn you when you fall off and possibly break your leg. Or an arm. Or crack open your skull. Either way, I will say ‘I told you so’.”

You rolled your eyes, beginning to climb it up. “Oh shut up — I’m sure you would love to goad about it, if I fell off. You revel in my misery after all, don’t you–?”

You got cut off by a yelp of your own, your hand slipping. Riki immediately came to your rescue, pulling you off the railing. In complete and utter fear of the sudden momentary lapse of judgement that almost caused you to fall off the roof, you turned around, hugging him tightly.

He held you close, wrapping his own arms around your waist. He could feel your heart beating erratically in your chest, matching his own. He couldn’t believe how stupid and unaware of your surroundings you were.

He glared down at how you buried your head in his chest, in disbelief of your previous actions. You were shaking slightly in his hands, but he didn’t care. “Are you fucking insane?! You knew that was dangerous, why on earth would you still try to climb the damned railings? For the love of god, you could have fallen off and died!”

You meekly raised your head, preparing to retort, before freezing. He was so, so close. You could make out every single detail on his face, every freckle, every pore, every single blemish. Yet, he was so… mesmerizing.

Riki’s heart skipped a beat as he looked down at you. His voice took a softer edge, a gentle note evident in it. “Promise me that you will never…”

Too lost in his eyes, you didn’t hear him. His voice and every other noise faded to the background, your sole focus being on his eyes. They were pulling you in, drowning you in them. Like a siren luring an unsuspecting victim.

Your lips parted slightly, as you kept staring at him, his warm breath fanning your face. He swallowed hard, realizing exactly how close you were. The adrenaline pumping in his veins was fucking with his head, thoughts of what your lips would feel like against his filling his mind. His eyes flickered down to your parted lips, the urge growing, before they quickly darted back up to your eyes, meeting your gaze once again. “Promise me.”

The words seemed to be stuck in your throat, which suddenly felt parched. “I…”

His breath hitched, eyes fixed on your parted lips once again. His heart was still racing, the world seeming to narrow down to just the two of you, standing flush together on the roof. “You…” He whispered, leaning just a fraction closer without realizing it. “You what?” It came out softer than intended, just a barely audible murmur.

You swiped your tongue over your bottom lip, wetting it with your saliva. The words tumbled out of your mouth, without you even realizing it. “God, you’re so pretty…”

Riki’s world seemed to stop, his mind going blank. His grip on your waist tightened slightly. “What did you say?” He whisper-hissed, leaning just a tad bit closer. His gaze flickered down to your lips again. The shift in the atmosphere around the two of you was becoming impossible to ignore, becoming electric with unsaid words and unacted-upon impulses.

You blinked, biting down on your lip. There was no going back now. “You’re pretty…”

His heart skipped a beat, then another, then another. He could barely believe what he was hearing — no one had ever called him ‘pretty’ before. Sure, he had heard other words: handsome, attractive, stunning, eye-catching — but ‘pretty’? Never did he hear that one before. But damn, he would be lying if he said it didn’t make his heart race — probably more than the other praises ever did. It was a word typically reserved for women, but hearing it from you directed towards him? It made his brain short-circuit.

He asked you again, just to confirm. “Pretty?”

You nodded, no longer scared of his reaction. “Very much so.”

He felt his cheeks flush again at the unusual comment. He was blushing, and he never blushed. But everything seemed to be different when he was around you.

His mind was reeling, as he tried to process this new information. You, his best friend, thought he was pretty. He leaned even closer, his lips just a hair breath away from yours now. “You really think I’m pretty?” He whispered, his voice just barely audible.

You gulped, nodding. “Yea — yea, I do.”

His heart started pounding rapidly in his chest, his breathing shallow. He could feel the heat radiating off your body, the closeness of your lips, the way you were looking up at him. It was starting to all fade out into white noise, the sound of his rapidly beating heart in his ears. His eyes zeroed in on your parted lips, and something in him snapped.

Throwing all rational thought out of the window, he closed the barely there gap between your both, softly pressing his lips to yours. Your lips were as soft as a cloud, feeling pillowy against his. The kiss was brief, barely more than a whisper. It was nothing more than a peck, but it was enough to make his heart jump out of his chest, into his throat. When he pulled back, his eyes were as wide as saucers, surprised by his own boldness. “I–”

You didn’t let him complete his sentence. You grabbed his face, cupping it with both hands, pulling his face towards yours again. You kissed him again, with a lot more vigour, pouring out your pent up feelings into the kiss.

He was caught off guard by the sudden intensity of the kiss, but he melted into it. His hands pulled you even closer, as if trying to meld your body into his. He parted his lips, deepening the kiss, as he felt your arms wrap around his neck, pulling you even closer.

One of his hands came up to your face, cupping it, tilting his own to further deepen the kiss. The lack of air was starting to hurt, despite how addicting your lips were. He pulled back slowly, not before gently biting down on your bottom lip, pulling it between his teeth, before letting go of it with a pop.

You felt a little dazed, but still smiled up at him, your eyes slightly hazy and unfocused. He chuckled at your state, planting a kiss on top of your head. “Pretty, huh?”

Your cheeks grew warmer at the teasing undertone in his voice. “Shut up. I meant it, you know.”

His grin grew wider, as he kissed your cheek. “I know. I hope this is a good time to say that I like you? Like, I really fucking like you, I was just scared to confess because of the recent situation… with the excessive teasing and all… and, well, the fear of rejection.”

You hit his arm. “You silly goose — if I didn’t like you back, do you think I would behave the way I do with you? Absolutely not. You’re lucky I put up with your antics, you know.”

He rolled his eyes, although there was a smile on his face, one which he didn’t bother hiding. “You know, the hair tie was just a ploy? I just wanted any potential suitors to back off of you, but I didn’t expect people to react like… that.”

You let out a giggle. “I figured. It was honestly a really cute, albeit smart move on your part. Certainly made everyone back off… only to approach us with a different reason.”

He smiled down at you, his expression utterly lovesick. His eyes were practically resembling hearts. “D’you think if we announced it officially they would finally stop?”

You shrugged. “Probably not. Hopefully yes. But — in order to make it official, you need to ask me first, you know? Learn to be a gentleman, Riki.” The last bit was just you teasing him, something that he caught on to pretty quickly.

He playfully rolled his eyes, before speaking theatrically. “Fine — would you like to do the honour of becoming my girlfriend, ___? Wait no, scratch that — would you make me the happiest man alive by letting me take the position of your boyfriend?”

You scoffed in amusement at his dramatics, before pretending to think. “Take me out on a date first, then I will think of it.”

He gave you a smug grin, a determined glint in his eyes. “Deal.”

BRO WAS MADE FOR FRIENDS TO LOVERS SLOW BURN

comfort

Comfort

pairing bestfriend!riki x gn!reader genre fluff! childhood friends to lovers warnings light swearing, they kiss, very very slight angst when reader talks about insecurities

word count 2.9k

a/n: this is my first fic ever so it's not that good and idk what i'm doing LOL i didn't proofread so sorry if there are any mistakes! do lmk if you spot any >< i hope this isnt too bad for a fanfic debut TT

you checked your phone to look at the time as you waited for your best friend to come over. after getting cancelled on by a boy from your school, you had texted riki to keep you company. you were disappointed that you wouldn't get to go on the fun date you were anticipating and pretty sad about it.

just then, the doorbell rang, shaking you from your train of thoughts.

"y/n!! i hope you're dressed to go out!!"

you heard riki's muffled voice from behind the door. furrowing your brows in confusion, you grabbed your sweater that was slung on the back of your chair before rushing to open the door for him. before you could even greet him, he grabbed your wrist and pulled you into a hug. you giggled at his sudden action and ignored the slight fluttering of butterflies in your stomach.

"hi foo yoo too riki. waf fis about??"

you tried to ask as your face was squished against his chest. pulling away from you to see your face, riki looked down at you and ruffled your hair. huffing in annoyance, you reached your hands up to fix your hair.

"it's a surprise" he grinned cheekily and took a hold of your hand to guide you towards his bicycle.

"hold this for me please"

with that, he shoved a heavy backpack into your arms.

"well, it's not like you gave me a choice you little shit"

all he did was laugh and shove you onto his bicycle. after you were both seated comfortably, you wrapped your arms around his waist, bag securely on your lap in between you and riki.

"off we go!" he exclaimed childishly and started peddling. you weren't really expecting to go out tonight as you thought riki would just come over to keep you company while you watched a movie. however, you couldn't say you weren't pleased by the sudden unexpected turn of events.

riki picked up speed as you got to a more open road and you felt the wind blow through your hair. you shut your eyes and hugged riki a little tighter as you enjoyed the cool evening breeze.

taking advantage of your eyes being closed, riki briefly turned around and lifted one hand off the handle to flick your forehead.

"OUCH what the hell bitch!"

"huh? what?"

"why do you pull this shit even when you're cycling you're insufferable."

"i don't know what you're talking about! i'm a safe cyclist you know! both hands on the handle at all times of course. must have been a leaf or something man."

you rolled your eyes and glared at him as he proudly showed you that he could cycle without his hands on the handle. way to prove your innocence riki.

"look what i can do y/n!"

he beamed as he put both hands up in the air. he did this every single time he brought you on a cycling trip. despite this, you couldn't help but grin at his antics.

"focus on the road i don't feel like dying today." you smacked him on the head with a playful stern expression on your face.

"we're already here!"

he suddenly jammed the brakes causing your face to get squashed against his back.

"you bitch!"

you glared and him and he just shook his head and laughed mischievously. you hate to admit it but his laugh made your heart skip a beat. getting off the bicycle, he took the backpack from you and held out his hand to help you get off. you took his hand and hopped off safely and finally looked around to see where you were. he had brought you to the neighbourhood park.

"what exactly are we doing here?"

you looked up at him for an explanation but he just shot you his boxy smile and started guiding you towards the hill at the end of the park. with both hands on your shoulders, he led you to face the tree that was on top of the hill.

"close your eyes."

"why?"

"just do it."

"what if i don't want to?"

"i'll push you down the hill."

with that he actually started to shove you down the hill and you were quick to agree to shutting your eyes. when riki was determined to cause mischief he wouldn't hesitate. admitting defeat, you went back to face the tree and closed your eyes. you wondered what he was doing and was also kind of scared that he'd pull a prank on you and scare you or something. it wouldn't be very out of character for him.

your mind went to when both of you first met...

on the first day of kindergarten you had dozed off during arts and crafts. a certain someone who was seated next to you eyed a pair of scissors that were lying on the table due to the teachers negligence. with a cheeky grin he picked them up and

snip!

you woke up to the sound of evil giggles and the sound of beads scattering onto the floor. upon realising that your favourite bracelet had been snipped apart your jaw dropped in shock as you turned towards the culprit.

it took you 3 seconds to burst out into tears and you saw the evildoer's face fall when he realised you were really upset.

"I'M SO SORRY I CAN MAKE YOU A NEW ONE"

he immediately started apologising profusely, guilt and regret apparent on his face. he begged for your forgiveness but you were too upset. how could he cut your favourite bracelet!

"i'll get you ice cream? please don't cry i shouldn't have done that i'm so sorry"

your crying stopped at that as you looked into his eyes and saw that he was genuinely sorry.

"fine. but you're not forgiven. you owe me a bracelet mister." you conceded and decided it was just a beaded bracelet. free ice cream sounded way better.

his shoulders dropped as he sighed in relief.

"i think we got off to a bad start. my name is riki" he held out his hand and looked at you hopefully.

"y/n." you took his hand and shook it once.

ever since that day you were both inseparable and that never changed even as you both grew up and matured. the only thing that changed was how your feelings for him turned from friendly to romantic. ever since you understood the concept of dating, you knew riki was the one for you. but you were too afraid of ruining the friendship to say anything. you were content with having him as a best friend.

a loud clang brought you back to reality.

"nishimura what the hell are you doing?"

"every thing is under control DON'T TURN AROUND!" he replied insistently.

getting curious and impatient, you started to tap your foot on the grass.

"you're so impatient y/n. will it kill you to wait for 2 minutes?"

"i could be at home sleeping right now."

"don't lie to me. you would've been sitting on your bed moping about your loss of a good date."

"not true!"

"then why did you text me?"

riki had a point. you huffed for the millionth time that night and he chuckled at your feigned annoyance.

you flin hed slightly as you felt him touch your shoulder, not hearing him finish whatever he was doing.

"ok you can open your eyes now."

you opened your eyes to be greeted by tree bark.

"turn around you idiot." riki rolled his eyes and turned you around to face him.

"surprise!"

a few metres behind him was a picnic mat with snacks on it and pillows and blankets. your jaw dropped slightly as you took in the sight in front of you. you looked up at riki whose eyebrows were raised with a hopeful smile. squealing out an "i love this!" you hugged him tightly to thank him and rushed to sit down and see what food he had brought.

riki watched you quietly with a gentle smile on his face before walking over to join you on the picnic mat he had set up. he was happy that he managed to lift your spirits and put such a happy expression on your face.

"oo didn'tff haf to do thif" you looked at him while your mouth was stuffed with a sandwich. your cheeks were puffed out and your lips were drawn into a pout. he thought you were adorable like this.

"it was nothing. i'm always here to cheer you up y/n" he shrugged and picked up a sandwich for himself.

you grabbed your phone from your pocket to play some music, putting yours and riki's shared playlist on shuffle. you checked the time, it was 10:00pm.

you sighed as you finished your sandwich and leaned back to lie down on the pillows riki had placed on the mat.

"you can let it out, it's just me. i know you're probably more sad than you're trying to let on." riki looked at you as if he could see right through you. you frowned and furrowed your eyebrows. "how did you know?"

"we've known each other for long enough come on."

riki was right. you decided to tell him about how you were sad about the missed opportunity and how you were wondering if it was because of you. were you not interesting enough? or pretty enough?

"nonsense y/n. you're such a girlboss queen slay"

he playfully grinned as u smacked his chest. he had moved positions to lie down facing you.

"bitch i'm never sharing my feelings with you again" you half-heartedly shoved him and turned your head to look away from him.

"i'm kidding! look at me please" he placed a hand on your cheek to turn your head to face him. you felt heat rise to your cheeks and you hoped that it was dark enough to conceal them.

"you're perfect just the way you are y/n. you're beautiful and kind and definitely very interesting to me. you shouldn't doubt yourself just because of some average boy." riki comforted and reassured you. he hoped you couldn't see the pink tinting his cheeks. was that too much? can she tell how i feel? he hoped you couldn't.

the blush on your face deepened upon hearing his words.

"you really think so? thanks riki... you always know what to say"

you genuinely believed you had the best friend in the world. riki always treated you well, being there for you when you needed him, knowing exactly what you needed at any point of time. you were his number one priority as he was yours. everything about him was perfect aside from his prankster tendencies and his way of bullying and teasing you. but you'd be lying if you said you didn't find those endearing either.

"hey! earth to y/n! lost you for a second there" he annoyingly jabbed at your side to get your attention.

"way to ruin the moment you bitch" you glared at him playfully. he cheekily smiled back at you with the grin that sent your heart racing.

clearing your throat, you averted your eyes from him, rolling over to look at the sky. if you stared at his face any longer you thought you might combust.

"the night sky is so pretty! the stars are shining so brightly. thanks for bringing me here the view is breathtaking" you smiled as you took in the sky above you.

"yeah, sure is" riki replied, head turned to look at you.

he couldn't remember when he decided that you were the one. he didn't know it back then but in kindergarten he was drawn to you for some reason. even as you slept in that arts and crafts class with drool tricking down your chin he knew he wanted to be friends with you. he didn't know how to approach you so he did what his (unhelpful) brain came up with to get your attention. after cutting your bracelet he immediately regretted it, seeing you bawl your eyes out over it.

ever since then, you had been a constant in his life. he was a great friend to you but so were you to him. you stayed up late during the wee hours of the night to facetime him when he wanted to talk or rant. you had stuck by his side ever since the 2 of you became friends. you always helped him out with his work when he was struggling even though you had things to do. and most of all he loved you. he saw you as the prettiest and most beautiful person in the world and no one could compare to you. he thought you were the kindest and sweetest too and he loved everything about you.

"hey this is our favourite song!" you exclaimed as you started singing along. riki immediately jolted out of his thoughts and turned to the sky before you could catch him staring at you.

he closed his eyes as he listening to your voice. another thing he loved about you.

you turned to look at him, noticing his silence for the past few minutes. you quietly inched closer to him when you realised his eyes were shut. before you could flick his forehead as payback for earlier, he opened his eyes, sensing your presence. he visibly flinched as he realised your proximity and you pouted as he restrained your hand from flicking him.

"boo!!" you huffed at the missed opportunity to get revenge on him.

riki looked at you as your face hovered directly above him. he could feel your breath on his cheek and the whole world stopped around you. he could no longer hear the music you were previously singing to and its like his surroundings were blurred. before he could think it through he tugged at your arm firmly, causing you to fall onto him as he wrapped his arms around you.

your eyes widened as you gasped at the sudden movement and your heart started racing when you realised how the 2 of you were positioned. you were speechless and before you could say anything riki beat you to it.

"y/n... i think i have to get this out now. i never wanted to ruin our friendship but i can't stand seeing you be sad about guys any longer when i know i can treat you the way you should be treated so i'm just going to say it" he took a deep breath before finally confessing.

"i like you l/n y/n"

your mouth parted in shock. you weren't expecting that. you didn't even think he liked you romantically or that he would even reciprocate your feelings. you brain was trying to process what he just said.

riki gulped nervously at your expression and your silence before shifting so that you could get off his chest. he was starting to regret what he did and he feared he made you uncomfortable and that he may have just lost his life-long friend.

realising you hadn't said anything yet, you hugged him in a panic as you felt him pushing you off. your face came into contact with his chest once again.

"i like yoo foo riki don't vee an idiot" you squeezed him tighter as your face was squished against him again.

riki felt a sense of relief wash over him as he immediately shot up from his position, causing your head to land on the mat with a thud.

"say that again? y/n are you being for real? no cap? fax no printer?" he looked back at you with wide eyes.

"riki what the hell that hurt. and please never say those words again. you sound like a degenerate" you glared at him as you rubbed your head which had just taken a blow from the ground.

his hand rushed to your head and rubbed it in hopes of making it feel better before he asked you again, "are you serious? you like me too?"

your lips curved upwards at his natural instincts to soothe your pain and instead of giving him a verbal response, you lifted yourself upwards to give him a peck on the lips.

you felt riki freeze and you watched as his eyes widened and a violent blush crept up his neck to his cheeks. you felt your face heat up as you realised what you had just done. feeling embarrassed and flustered, you pulled him down to hug him and shoved your face into the crook of his neck. he started shaking with laughter and joy as he rolled the 2 of you over so that you were on top of him instead of on the ground.

"y/n~~ look at me please!! c'monn" he whined as you refused to face him, still embarrassed but what you just pulled. he forced your head out of his shoulders to shower your whole face with kisses.

he pecked your nose then your cheeks then your forehead followed by your lips until you were giggling. you felt so loved.

"be my girlfriend."

"i think you're supposed to ask and not demand. what if i don't want to" you raised an eyebrow at him jokingly with a smug look on your face.

he rolled his eyes and kissed you on the lips again. this time for longer. you felt yourself melt into his hold as you reciprocated. both of you felt warmth running through your bodies and butterflies fluttering in your stomachs. he finally pulled away as you ran out of breath.

"still don't wanna be mine?" he smirked at you as you tried to catch your breath. you looked gorgeous with red tinting your cheeks and your eyes sparkling, looking right back at his.

"i've always been yours, you just needed to ask"

A Study In Crushes

The classroom buzzes with chatter and the occasional shuffle of notebooks as students settle in for the lecture. You’re in your usual seat by the window, trying not to glance over at the boy who’s been occupying far too much space in your head lately—Jungwon.

Jungwon, with his soft smile and warm laughter, sits two rows ahead. You’ve never spoken much, just exchanged brief pleasantries when paired for small group work. Yet somehow, you find yourself hyper-aware of him in every class.

Your professor walks in and begins the lecture, but it’s hard to focus. Jungwon’s shoulders shake slightly as he laughs at something his friend says. You quickly look away, feeling heat creep up your neck.

It’s only when the professor announces the semester’s group project that your day takes an unexpected turn.

"Partners will be randomly assigned," he declares, and you hear the collective groan ripple through the room.

Names start flashing on the projector screen in pairs. You wait anxiously, heart pounding as if your name alone decides your fate. And then, there it is: Your Name & Yang Jungwon.

Your head snaps toward him on instinct. He’s already looking back, his lips quirking into a small smile that makes your stomach flip. He gestures to the empty seat next to him. You gather your things, trying not to trip over your own feet, and take the spot.

“Looks like we’re stuck with each other,” Jungwon teases lightly as you sit down.

“Looks like it,” you reply, smiling shyly.

The project requires several weeks of collaboration, and soon enough, you and Jungwon fall into a rhythm. After class, you meet at the library or a quiet café near campus to hash out ideas. Jungwon’s surprisingly organized, keeping your work on track while still making space for moments of lighthearted fun.

“So,” he says one evening as you sit across from each other, books and laptops sprawled on the table between you. “What’s your guilty pleasure study snack?”

You laugh, surprised by the question. “Probably gummy bears. Yours?”

“Chocolate milk,” he admits with a sheepish grin.

“Chocolate milk isn’t a snack,” you tease.

“Says who?” He raises a brow, mock-indignant.

You talk about everything and nothing, your conversations flowing easily. Over time, you start to notice little things: the way Jungwon bites his lip when he’s deep in thought, how his eyes crinkle when he smiles, the way he always waits for you to finish packing up before leaving together.

One night at the library, Jungwon leans back in his chair, stretching his arms above his head. The movement lifts his sweatshirt slightly, revealing a sliver of skin, and you quickly look away, heat rushing to your face. He catches your expression and smirks.

“Are you blushing?” he asks, leaning forward.

“No,” you say too quickly, busying yourself with your notes.

“Sure,” he says, drawing out the word in a way that makes your stomach flutter.

It’s after your fourth study session that things shift. You’re walking back to your dorm, the crisp evening air filled with the hum of crickets.

“Hey,” Jungwon says, his voice softer than usual.

You turn to him, his expression uncharacteristically nervous.

“I was wondering…” He pauses, scratching the back of his neck. “Would you maybe want to hang out sometime? Outside of studying, I mean.”

You blink, caught off guard. “Like… as friends?”

“Not exactly,” he says, meeting your eyes. There’s a vulnerability there that makes your heart race. “I like you. I’d like to take you out—if you’re okay with that.”

It takes you a moment to process his words, but when you do, you can’t suppress the smile that spreads across your face.

“I’d like that too,” you say.

The following weekend, you find yourself exploring the town with Jungwon. The two of you start at a small indie bookstore he’s been raving about, where you end up flipping through shelves together, laughing at cheesy romance novel covers.

“Would you ever read one of these?” you ask, holding up a particularly dramatic one featuring a shirtless man and a swooning woman.

“Only if you dared me to,” Jungwon says, smirking.

After the bookstore, you wander into a nearby park, where a street musician is playing a soulful tune on the violin. You pause to listen, the music weaving a quiet intimacy between you.

“Hungry?” Jungwon asks as the sun begins to dip below the horizon.

“Starving,” you admit.

He leads you to a small food truck park, the air thick with the scent of sizzling meat and spices. You settle on a shared plate of tacos and sit side by side on a bench, your knees brushing occasionally.

“These are amazing,” you say between bites.

“Told you,” Jungwon replies, looking far too smug for someone holding a taco.

The night stretches on, and you find yourselves walking aimlessly, talking about everything from childhood dreams to embarrassing moments. Jungwon tells you about the time he tripped on stage during a school play, and you laugh so hard you nearly stumble.

“You’re not supposed to laugh at my pain,” he says, feigning offense.

“Sorry,” you say, still giggling. “But the mental image is too good.”

At some point, you end up at a quiet overlook, the town’s twinkling lights spread out below like a sea of stars.

“Thanks for today,” you say, your voice soft. “I had a really good time.”

“Me too,” Jungwon says, his gaze fixed on you.

There’s a pause, the kind that’s charged with unspoken possibilities. Jungwon shifts closer, his hand brushing against yours.

“Can I kiss you?” he asks, his voice barely above a whisper.

Your heart leaps into your throat, but you nod.

The world seems to fall away as Jungwon leans in, his lips soft and warm against yours. It’s tentative at first, like he’s afraid to rush, but when you kiss him back, he deepens it ever so slightly, his hand coming up to cradle your jaw.

When you finally pull away, both of you are smiling, your faces inches apart.

“That was…” Jungwon starts, then chuckles. “Wow.”

“Yeah,” you agree, your cheeks aching from how wide you’re grinning.

The walk back to campus is filled with a comfortable silence, your hands intertwined. It feels like the start of something new, something good.

And as Jungwon walks you to your dorm, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead before saying goodnight, you realize that maybe, just maybe, your classroom crush was worth every second of distraction.

perv bf jake drabble because I'm bored...

Perv Bf Jake Drabble Because I'm Bored...

You're walking ahead of Jake, hips swaying, as his hungry gaze follows your every step. It doesn't bother you, not really, because you know you're just as perverted in your desires. But he's different. He outpaces your perversions, surpassing them in a single, lustful stride.

His mind starts to wander, drifting between your thighs, imagining an eternity trapped there. For him, it is heaven-the ultimate dream destination. It's in the way his eyes linger, a slight smirk playing on his lips as he loses himself in his fantasies.

You have been noticing recently that the stack of panties in your drawer keeps dwindling. A pair gone here, a set vanished there. You did not bother much with it at first. You must have misplaced them or forgotten them in some drawer or tucked them away in some forgotten corner. But then, he started replacing them.

Every time you discovered the deficit, he'd surprise you with new, better panties. Lacy, silky, or soft cotton—it didn't matter. He spoiled you, indulged your every whim. Such a sweetheart, you thought.

But was he?

There it lay, hidden in the remnants of discarded fabric. How they carried still with your scent, how a hint of musk could be detected from the traces of your arousal. There was the scent of Jake's lust and how he indulged, so twisted and secret.

He was not only replacing the missing pair of panties. He stole them and used them as prizes, jerking into the fabric and painting them with his own release. Your smell, your aroma, becomes some twisted aphrodisiac fueling his darkest fantasies.

He was no sweetheart. He was a thief, a pervert of the highest order. But you couldn't help the thrill that raced down your spine at the thought, the dampness that gathered between your thighs. Because deep down, you knew you wanted him to do it again. And again. And again.

The warm water streamed down your body while your hands caressed every curve of your skin soaped up with soap in the bite marks on the neck, breasts, and inner thighs. Each one remained a reminder of last night's raw passion. You felt the heat of water only make the memories all the more burning, when your body craved just a little more even with the evidence being washed out.

If you hadn't noticed it before, you did now. The little gap in the door from where you saw Jake, who stands across the room, a picture of brazen desire. His hand, hidden within the confines of his jeans, moves with a purposeful, rhythmic motion. It's clear what he's doing, the lewd act concealed but not truly secret. His eyes, once again, betray him.

A guttural, muffled “Fuck” is wrung from his lips, the word lost to the steamy air and the sound of the waterfalls. Even without the audible confirmation, you know him intimately, and his pleasure is as familiar to you as your own reflection.

As he spills himself, his release seeping into the fabric of his boxers, he allows himself a moment of pure, unadulterated bliss. His eyes flutter shut, a look of utter contentment etched onto his handsome face. But it's fleeting.

They snap open, his eyes darting right to you as if by magnet. There, in the small slit in the door, only big enough to be almost an oversight, he can see you. And you can see him seeing you.

His eyes scan your wet body, shameless in their appreciation. They linger on the curves he knows so well, the peaks and valleys sculpted by your natural beauty and the passion you share. His gaze burns a trail from the top of your head down to your toes, pausing at every tempting inch in between.

He gives you a look that's as sheepish as it is lustful. A smile tugs at his lips, crooked and full of mischief. It's the grin of a man who knows he's been caught, but couldn't possibly be more pleased about it.

As he watches, his eyes go to your towel, not blinking, as you start to dry yourself, and he follows the route of the towel with an imagination of how the absorbent fabric would feel on your skin, wishing his hands were there.

He's a sweetheart, in his own twisted, insatiable way. He indulges your every whim, worships your body with a fervor that borders on reverence. But he's also a thief, a pervert, a man consumed by his own dark, lustful desires.

And as you lock eyes through the gap in the door, you realize that you wouldn't have him any other way. His shamelessness is part of what draws you to him, the key ingredient in the recipe of your relationship.

Act 1: loving

Riki had never understood love – that is, until he met you. He knew he loved many things, like dance, and his family and friends, but if you had asked him if he knew what love meant, he would have buffered like a 2000s-era computer. Of course, Riki knew what love was; he had watched it in K-dramas and had seen it rendered in manga. By their definition, love was hard. Love was hard and difficult and full of miscommunication, but also, love was soft and kind and offered the sweetest touches to one's heart that anyone could ask for.

Love was everything, and nothing, all at the same time.

He then concluded, after the piles of pirated manga and dramas he had accumulated over his 17 years of boyhood, that love was simply you. He didn’t need to be a genius to understand that; he knew if it wasn’t you, then no one was going to fit that definition of love for him. Riki didn’t fully understand love, but he understood you – how he felt about you. You, in all your beautiful glory. Love was your touch, your smile, your laugh. Love was what he looked forward to every day.

You were truly the only exception to his dilemma of love, because with you, love came so easily. Love was just like breathing – it was so effortless when it came to you. Love for you felt like rain kissing his cheeks in humid summers, like snow tickling his nose during winter, like an autumn leaf falling on his head in the fall, like cherry blossoms blooming when spring arrived.

Love for you felt like nature, like it was natural. He was sure he had been born to love you, inside and out. From the moment he had met you at the age of 4, when you were dressed in stained patchwork overalls, obviously from playing in the dirt; your hair tied in uneven pigtails because you had just had to tie them yourself. Your hands clasped some wilted old flowers he had passed while walking Bisco; you had offered them to him as a greeting gift with that cute little grin of yours.

“Hello! Want to be my best friend?”

Four-year-old Riki didn’t know it just yet, though he did have an inkling, but he would be head over heels for the girl in front of him for the rest of his life.

He had stared at the flowers in your hand, weak and slouchy in posture. He looked back up at you and didn’t have the heart to tell you that those flowers were the exact ones Bisco had decided to relieve herself on. So, he took those piss-stained flowers and nodded his head with as much agreement as his little body could give.

At the ripe age of 18, as he watched you from across his window, peering into your room, where you haphazardly flopped onto your bed with exhaustion despite only hanging out in his room all day. He could just tell you had screamed into your bed by the way you flailed around at the edge. He watched you suddenly stop, as if you had run out of battery, flip over to your back, and lay still for a while longer.

He loved you.

You could sense him staring at you, with your strangely acquired Riki-sense. You lifted your head to confirm your theory, and there he was, leaning against the window frame staring into your room. His eyes lay still on the object that was yourself, and he was filled with so much adoration, so much love, so much bliss at even the sight of you.

And yet, you scoffed at his blatant staring, feeling his chocolate-brown eyes peer into your soul like the Ghost Rider from the movies. Of course, he had that stupid love-stricken look, and of course, he was already waiting for you to stare back.

Love for you had meant many things – too many things to quite pinpoint the right meaning. As you grew up, you learnt more about love than loss, and hence, you learnt that love hurts.

Love was like the humidity in summer, where the air was too thick, and the wind stuck to your skin; love was like the dullness of autumn, where the wind was cold and brisk but not enough to complain about – just enough to be irritable; love was like winter, where it got so cold you couldn’t even feel your face anymore, the season of sickness and disease that forced you to remain indoors and watch the sky cry frozen tears; love was like spring, when hay fever was at its worst, staining your cheeks with unintentional tears and a stuffy nose.

Love was hard. Love was difficult. Love was confusing.

You remembered every single time something you had loved got lost. The very first time was when the friendship bracelet Riki had made you when you were 5, decorated with mismatched charms and trinkets, disappeared one day when you went to the park. The nights you had spent crying didn’t outweigh the nights 5-year-old Riki had spent consoling and reassuring you that he’d make another one – a better one. But 5-year-old you knew the sentiment that was put into that very first bracelet, the one made without obligation to be replaced.

You remembered wailing about how it wouldn’t be the same, that Riki would have the very first bracelet, and you’d have a stupid second version because you had been careless. Then, you remembered the sound of beads crashing onto the ground, scattering anywhere and everywhere. You were scared you’d slip and crash despite being a giant compared to a measly bead.

“Now I’ll make two new ones so we’ll both be the same again.”

You couldn’t recall a more romantic and pleasant memory, where Riki had been so genuine and cute, so willing to give up something that was his to meet your happiness.

Five-year-old Riki really had you wrapped around his finger from that day on.

Despite your own volition, your heart bloomed and blistered, so full of him. It beat to the spelling of his name (in Morse code), and you couldn’t help but pull the threatening smile down into the scowl you attempted to display.

Like clockwork, your eyes locked with the same amount of love and willingness that you gave yourself credit for. You crawled towards your window and lifted it open so you could talk to him again as if the past 12 hours hadn’t occurred.

He was waiting for you, gazing like the stars had blessed his presence – graced his very being with the holiness that was you.

You had to force yourself to calm the oh-so-obvious flush of your cheeks, putting it down to hike up to your room as the reason for your sudden flare-up.

“Aren’t you tired of looking at me all day?” you remarked, and he was so quick with his reply, “I could never get tired of looking at you.”

Him and his flirty personality. You didn’t remember where he had gotten it from, or how he had developed it. You’d grown up with him all your life, and that part of his personality was still an anomaly.

You let a scoff out, rolling your eyes and folding your arms, blatantly ignoring the ache in your cheeks that you refused to surrender to his love.

“It’s not like I’ll disappear if you blink, relax,” but Riki had never been more relaxed than when he was looking at you. Not just the plain stares he gave during his maths classes, or at the dinner table, or even when he stared at his home screen that was so obnoxiously filled with you, but the type that showed interest, that showed he was immersed, devoured, totally consumed by whatever had his attention.

He liked to think he had found the perfect balance of clinginess and distance but still unknowingly leaned towards pulling you in.

“Most girls would love it if I stared at them,” he had said.

He was right. Nearly every girl at school would have sold an arm and a leg just for the boy to even look in their direction. If you weren’t you, you would have cherished and felt blessed to even have the Nishimura Riki in your presence.

But you were you, and you had grown up with this annoying brat all your life. Even if he could be sweet and sensitive at times, or when he tried to show you he was more man than boy, he was still Riki: your first friend, your best friend, and your first love.

Besides, someone had to keep his beautiful ass humbled, or else he would have resorted to those once-targeted alpha male Andrew Tate ads.

“To be honest, I find it a bit creepy,” you had snickered to yourself as he pouted at your response.

Those cute lips of his.

You had always known how to bring his rising ego down, one way or another.

With your smart and witty remarks, you anchored him just enough so he didn’t fly away and drift into the realm of egoism.

He couldn’t get enough of you.

“Fine. I’ll stop looking at you,” he had declared, but his eyes betrayed his words, and his gaze never, not once, pulled away. He had one eye open now, tilting his head away but still, ever so slightly, gazing upon the beauty that you emitted.

And you were still looking. Of course, you were; of course, you would.

You never took your eyes off him because he was just so cute, and his attempt to one-up you in snark was quite endearing.

“Good luck with that,” you had laughed, leaning onto your palm as you watched him sigh in defeat, but not before he caught your own gaze on him.

“Oooh, why are you looking at me like that?” he had prompted, leaning over his window to be closer to you. “Do you think I’m cute?” he wriggled his eyebrows ever so playfully, that shit-eating grin plastered on his face.

“No,” you had deadpanned, dropping your palm down to the frame. He pouted again, more pouty than usual, pulling a frown.

He whined with one of those annoying squeals, something you had grown used to over the years of knowing him. “My girlfriends are so mean to me,” he had said, frowning with his eyebrows pinching and lips pouting. You couldn’t help the small pull of your lips, seeing how comical he was being.

For a split second, you had lingered on his words. “My girlfriend,” he had said with so much pride. “My girlfriend” was all you really heard because he was calling you his girlfriend like it was your name, like it was a prize, a gift, a blessing. “My girlfriend” sounded like honey-laced praises.

He had feigned a gasp at the sight of you trying to hide your smile, and then you had burst into giggles because, of course, you revelled in his misery. But it was okay because the sound of your laughter, that joyous giggle, had erupted because of him, and that was more than enough to subside the little bits of bullying you always seemed to aim at him.

His heart beat along with the rhythm of your laugh.

It was late, and the stars had been watching your tales unfold.

Of a girl whose love yearned and pined, reaching the moon and kissing the ocean. Whose love was kept sacred and scarce, and yet, a love that was sought after, searching for love like hers. One that treasured and was kept safe, a love made of steel but soft like wool. A love that comforted.

And of a boy who loved like no other, so full and so rich. Whose love poured like the rain kissing the ground – endless and fulfilling. A love so abundant, it counted for the world.

There was so much love, too much. It was overbearing, consuming, and it was eating you both alive.

It was overwhelming.

“Hey.”

Your name had left his mouth like honey.

The silence of the gap between your two homes became deafening. Your laugh had slowly died, and your attention had glued onto him alone.

It was now or never.

Riki had known that love was you. He had known that the moment his eyes met yours, his definition had been filled in an instant.

He knew, he had loved – no, he loved you.

His second pause after the call had been enough to erupt a yawn from your lips, ever so slightly slipping past your perfectly shaped lips.

“You should get to bed,” he had said, but the lovesick gaze that you were too tired to catch said everything.

You had fought the urge to ask him what he was really thinking. You were tired, but you knew Riki – your Riki. You knew how his eyebrows pinched a certain way when he contemplated, only further accentuated when he hesitated.

You had his entire face burned into your mind, and your heart.

But for tonight, you had let him and his burning thoughts wait as you slightly nodded.

“I’m not gonna wake you up this time,” you replied, smiling ever so slightly.

You had left your window open, as you always did. Your window to his – it was like you were always together, connected through a fated string that crossed from one pane to the other.

Act 2: between

You had grown to find joy within nothingness—or so you told yourself.

All your life, you had searched for things to put meaning into. Simple commodities that resembled fractions of joy you attempted to keep. As a child, you had never pondered trivial things that would be impossible to find answers to.

You loved the definite, the certain, the things you knew you could hold close to your heart and never let go. Like the grudge you held for the boy who had bullied Riki when he was nine—too fiery of emotions for little you to experience. Your little face had burned red with anger, fists balled and shaking with rage. There had been no stopping nine-year-old you from unleashing divine fury upon the bully. Or like the childhood bracelet Riki made when you were kids, which you had sworn never to remove despite the horrendous combination of charms. A symbol of your eternal friendship.

As you stuffed your locker with yet another textbook you barely cared about, you heard cheers echo against the walls, ricocheting straight into your ears. The stampede of footsteps seemed to hurdle past you, racing toward an unknown presence from across the hall.

You’d be lying if you said you didn’t know who that presence was. Of course you did. You couldn’t ignore it, not when his fiery gaze burned holes into the back of your head.

You subtly looked over your shoulder, and there he was, in his glorious seven-foot-something stature. You saw how all the girls crowding him seemed to be trying to attract his attention, calling for his name, asking him silly, mundane questions. Anything just for a simple glance, but all Riki could do was stare at you like you were a lost treasure he had just discovered.

His gaze alone spoke a thousand words.

"I wish I could hold you."

"Your hand is mine."

"I want you."

"I need you."

"I miss you."

Those were more your feelings than what you thought his gaze said, but you had an inkling he felt the same way.

In the space between you, from metres away across the hall, you couldn’t help but feel so full of him—him and his love. He was saying nothing, yet the whole world went deaf in his presence.

You could see, miraculously through the heart-eyed girls, how he fidgeted with the little torn hem at the bottom of his shirt, remembering how you had been the culprit for that "measly" (his words, not yours) tear.

You watched as he scratched his neck awkwardly, trying to be as polite as a boy could be when rejecting a starry-eyed girl. They gave him chocolate-covered strawberries—though you knew he’d only eat them if they were microwaved despite your protests—and little love letters he would never end up reading, also despite your pitied protests.

All you wanted to do was pull him out of the crowd of crazed girls, to scream that he was yours—despite often telling him that you weren’t an object and shouldn’t be defined as "mine." Maybe it was jealousy that rippled through your blood, burning with a touch of yearning because, of course, you yearned for him. Every second of the day.

You yearned for his touch, his words, his silence.

Despite your many reluctances to say so, you were so deeply infatuated with Riki, you might as well have sprawled it across your forehead. Every distant look, light feathery touch, gentle breath that brushed against the shell of your ear. Everything he did, you clung to like a hoarder. A stupid, love-stricken hoarder. Every thought of yours was consumed by him, captivated by his every essence. Feminists before you would have shaken their heads, disappointed by how much you thought of Riki.

Frankly, you were too smitten with your dear ol’ boyfriend, even if he claimed you didn’t show enough affection to him.

Maybe it was for the best, as your gazes left each other like strangers with a fleeting glance. Similarly to last night, there was an invisible wall separating the two of you, tension threatening to crack under the pressure.

Riki was still being bombarded by love-sick girls, his longing gaze shifting into more of a plea as he watched you with all the free space he was supposed to take up.

You ignored his plea, of course, turning back around and into your locker. You would speak to him later anyway—it’s what he gets for making you late this morning (you had waited for him, as you always did).

Act 3: two

The two of you sit in the silence of your room for a change. The curtains of your window that peer into his room are pulled shut, dimming the space enough that you can only tell his expressions if you’re inches away from each other.

Which you are.

Riki insisted on staying over this time, wanting to leave the musk of his room for once. But really, he misses the sight of your walls.

Plastered across from him are pictures of friends and family, some of him and your shared friend group, others of his sisters and you. He thinks to himself how you have a knack for interior design, pleased with the way you showcase your love through photographs.

You say it eternalises the memories, so even when you’re both old and rotten to match your insides, you’ll always have the days of your youth.

And there’s a little flutter in his stomach when he thinks back to this memory because you said “both.” He loves that you see him forever entangled in your life.

Riki watches you doom-scroll on that godforsaken bird app. He likes to believe he’s got all your micro-expressions down—like the slight twitch of irritation in your eyebrow, the lift at the corner of your lip when you see something funny, or the scrunch of your nose when you see a resurfaced video of Nikocado Avocado.

Riki doesn’t spend half as much time on his education as he does staring at you. You’re awfully beautiful in your (his) shirt and dirty sweatpants. You’ve never bothered putting effort into your appearance when you’re in the comfort of your (or his) room, having known him far too long to care if he thinks your shirt smells like perpetual instant ramen.

His eyes travel from your appearance back to your face, and he just loves you. Loves sitting next to you. Loves seeing your face.Loves your appearance. Loves your personality. Loves that you're the opposite of a breath of fresh air—you’re comforted in his old, musty room.

Because even if he and you were stuck back in his room, you’d never change. You’re constant.

He loves the way your voice drops when you sense your tone’s shifted higher when talking to him, saying you’ll never be caught speaking to him with a babied voice. He loves how you deny his obvious affection for you—behind closed doors, because he wouldn’t hear the end of it from his friends. He loves your loudness, your quietness, your happiness, your silence.

He loves you.

He’s going to say it.

As he stares at you, yearning for you, you pretend not to notice the burning gaze of your lover. Twitter lost your attention long ago—the nth tweet about yet another scandal circling the app. Instead, you focus on your breathing. With how wild your heart’s beating, the best you can do is control how you breathe—ensuring you don’t fold in front of the lovely boy cuddled up next to you.

If Riki really knew how much you adored him—his hair, his eyes, his laugh, his smile, him—you’d never hear the end of it.

In truth, you’re simply enamoured with him. You love him. Everything about him. Years of girlhood wasted on a beautiful and sweet boy. Girlhood never prepares you for how to love a boy so lovely, so perfect. You think about how there have only been a few moments in your life where you’ve felt nothing but bliss.

Childhood was easy; ever since that fateful day where you picked a bunch of piss-covered flowers, you had no worries other than befriending the awkward little boy next door.

You’ll be sure to thank your parents’ boss for the move.

Teenhood, not so much; it’s riddled with an array of angst and anxiety. It’s a surprise you’re not imploding from the assignment you’ve been procrastinating or having a philosophical crisis like “what is love?”. But no, teenhood, albeit filled with plenty of anger and sorrow, has its fair share of wonderful moments.

Like right now, sitting in the comfort of your room—for a change. You’ve spent time imagining how your life would unravel, always with him in it, and how it ended up. The pictures plastered across the room aren’t just for show—they’re evidence that you’re happy.

Blissful.

Without Riki, you wouldn’t know what bliss is. Feeling nothing but pure and utter love.

He’s everything perfect about love.

And of course, you’ve said “I love you” plenty of times—80% of those times were when you were just kids. But that was when you were just friends. A silly phrase, really, because if you ask anyone who’s known you two since you were kids, they’d say you guys got married at the ripe age of seven with grass-bladed rings and flower crowns, with any passing animal as witness to your youthful marriage.

But now you’re dating—the dreaded boyfriend-girlfriend status. Nothing’s really changed in your relationship. Riki remains full of love and charisma, his attitude never wavering because, as he puts it, he’s known you were “the one” since you handed him those dirty flowers. You’ve remained witty and lovely as always, retaining the same spunk you had as a kid. The only two differences (soon to be one) are that your status has changed from friends to dating, and you’ve yet to say those three words, eight letters.

The phone that sits in your loose grip almost slips out, clearly losing its purpose of mindless distraction. To your dismay, Riki catches sight of your fumble, noting that you haven’t scrolled in seven minutes.

“Did my shameless staring finally catch your attention?”

He’s shameless, alright.

You drop your phone, staring deep into his dreamy eyes. You remain silent, but your expression tells him everything.

Despite the pull of your eyebrows and the purse of your lips, you love him.

“Say… what’s one thing you love about me?” he prompts, ready to finally tell you those long-awaited words. He’s thought it all out—how he’d list everything he loves about you, like he’s about to write your biography. He’s been dreaming of this moment since you started dating.

You think thoughtfully, like you’re scrounging your brain for an answer, leaving the silence in the room to deafen him with anticipation.

“Hey! Stop thinking so much!” Riki exclaims, offended that you’ve taken more than three seconds to answer, while his response would take 0.003 milliseconds (at least in his mind).

You let out a playful giggle, something you gave up trying to hide long ago. “I’m kidding,” you say, smiling.

“I’m kidding,” he mocks you in his ridiculous, high-pitched voice.

You love many things about him, too many to count. You simply love everything about him, like a reflex you can’t control.

“I love it when you’re silent.”

Riki visibly deflates, a slight frown ghosting his plump lips. His eyebrows pinch into a “what the hell” kind of expression, and his nose scrunches cutely at your words.

But you smile knowingly, taking in his sudden silence. You tune into the stillness of the room.

A rapid heartbeat.

“If you hate talking to me, just sa—”

“Because even when you’re quiet,” you interrupt, stretching your hand out to gently caress his hair, “you’re the loudest in the room.”

Your hand travels from his hair to cup his cheek, and Riki—the ever entranced—instinctively leans into your touch.

“Because you can just look at me, and I hear everything I need to hear.”

Your words are soft, gentle, and Riki swallows the lump in his throat that he hadn’t realised had formed. He stares deeply into your eyes—a different kind of stare than before.

Normally tender and kind, full of unspoken words of love. Now, all you see is devotion.

Riki focuses on the silence you’ve created, tuning into the nothingness that you said you loved about him.

And he thinks he can hear it, the silence.

It’s so loud, it bounces off the walls, pounding in his heart—even you can hear it.

I love you. I love you. I love you.

“What do you hear?” He pulls you closer, your lips hovering above his, so close he can feel your breath.

“I hear ‘I love you.’ ”

Your lips mould against his before he can respond, but something tells him that you know. And besides, he has a lifetime's worth of “I love yous”— he’ll let you have this one.

author's note pt.2: its been more than a year since i made this wip and i finally finished it LOLLL it took me so longggg ANDDD i feel like its a bit lackluster in the second act... ENJOY THOUGH. i love the the ending

HIDDEN LOVE

summary- Sunghoon’s hidden love wasn’t as hidden as he thought

________________________________________________________

Your life took a turn when you marched into your brother’s room one time, angrily having to discuss something with him only to find someone else in there.

Sunghoon admired out your brother’s window but upon hearing your arrival, he turned to face the noise. When he looked at you, the world that once spun for you came to a complete stop.

Your eyes never seemed to leave his and you stood at your brother’s front door until you heard the agonizing voice behind you.

Your brother was quick to shoo you out his room before you could even get a word out to him or even in general. Your gaze still lingered on the stranger witnessing the scene be fold over his eyes. You could notice the amused smirk he had as he saw you trying to shoo your brother away.

Your brother was quick to shut the door on your face once you were out, you deeply sighed before groaning loudly making sure he heard. You weren’t angry at the fact that your brother didn’t even acknowledge you.

You were frustrated with the fact that you weren’t able to be introduced to the memorizing stranger in your brother’s room.

When you were first properly introduced to Park Sunghoon, you could practically feel your heart swelling and entering cloud 9, where it would reside for a longer time than you intended.

The awkward but warm smile he gave you as he shook your hand that you offered, you found yourself falling. You weren’t the type to be intrigued by someone so quickly, let alone fall for them.

So, to your surprise when you found yourself falling for Sunghoon with the frequent times you were starting to seem him lingering around your house because of your brother.

However, him on the other hand had never viewed you anymore than his best friend’s younger sister. Obviously he was kind to create conversation with you or interact with you whenever you were forced to tag along with him and your brother because of your parents or simply because you wanted to (which he never minded either way).

Yet, he was oblivious to the fact of how you practically only kept your gaze onto him and not even to your surrounding. Which would explain the amount of times your brother scolds you to focus on your surrounding.

Sunghoon always found it amusing whenever you and your brother argued with each other, especially when he was present. But he knew deep down your brother cared for you deeply, something that your brother would never admit but Sunghoon would were the endless rants your brother had about you.

He was intrigued by the stories your brother told him, so when he first saw you angrily rambling about a situation as you walked into your brother’s room only to find Sunghoon there instead, he couldn’t help but wonder.

When there was the silence between the two of you, he could notice the slight change in gaze that once lingered in your eyes. He didn’t know what or why the changed happened, but once your brother appeared from behind you and shooed you away, he couldn’t help but be amused by seeing the bickering the two of you had.

Once you were kicked out the room, not only your brother but Sunghoon heard your grumble from the other side. He couldn’t help chuckle softly which caught the attention of your brother, his best friend.

“Was that the famous younger sister you always talk

about?” Sunghoon raised an eyebrow to his best friend who heavily sighed and nodded his head

“Sadly that is her” Now he didn’t even know it was possible, but Sunghoon was even more intrigued by you, he wondered about you the rest of the day he stayed at your brother’s house

But he never indulged in any of the wonders, he kept his distant with you. Truly ever interacting with you whenever you were tagging along or he so happens to run into while he was at your house.

The two of you oblivious to the obvious lingering wonder for the other.

“Why do you have to tag along?” Your brother grumbled as he sat in the back seat of the car, you chuckled at his words before shooing him away

Your brother and Sunghoon were going out to go grocery shopping for your family and somehow you got caught in the moment as Sunghoon offered an invite for you to tag along with them.

Saying along the words ‘If I stay a moment longer with him, I’ll lose my sanity’. You wouldn’t want Sunghoon to lose his sanity over your brother so of course you tagged along.

“You’re always complaining as if you never invite her too” Sunghoon rebutted his best friend’s words which only caused your brother to roll his eyes

“I can see you rolling your eyes” Sunghoon pointed out as your simply waved him off, telling him to focus back on the road

You always found yourself laughing at the banters between Sunghoon and your brother. Yet, you were always oblivious to the sneaky glances taken towards you by Sunghoon.

Whenever you laughed, smiled, giggled or chuckled, Sunghoon always found himself looking in your general direction. He didn’t know why or how he picked up this habit but it was something he couldn’t seem to get rid of so he simply stuck with it.

He simply dismissed it as natural curiosity, nothing more and nothing less.

You and Sunghoon were in an aisle together as your brother had run off to another. You didn’t bother to make your brother stay, you knew whenever he had his attention on something he was set in stone with it.

Sunghoon pushed the cart as you searched for what you were looking for. There were times where Sunghoon would jokingly ram the cart into you, which you would glare at him only to have him chuckle at you.

Sunghoon was going to lightly tap you with the cart to get your attention, but you were quicker than that. Before he could do so, you turned and grabbed the cart before it hit you. Sunghoon and the cart bounced from the impact and he looked to you in amusement.

You were too caught up in the moment to realize that you were shopping with Sunghoon alone. Your brother was no where near insight and you caught his eyes with yours. The familiar thumping in your chest reminded you of the hidden emotions you tried to bury deep down for your brother’s best friend.

The two of you continued to look into each other’s with no words being shared. You nervously gulped down while Sunghoon didn’t seemed to be phased at all, you weren’t surprised.

You believed why would he ever look your way when you were just his best friend’s younger sister.

Suddenly, your brother appeared out of no where and wrapped an arm around Sunghoon’s shoulder feeling the awkward tension.

“What happened?” Your brother raised an eyebrow and you and Sunghoon quickly to deny anything that happened, you decided it would be best to excuse yourself for a moment

Sunghoon was going to follow you with the cart but you raised your hand to signal him to stop. You gave a quick smile, saying that you just had to look for something and that you’d be back soon.

You were gone in a mere second and both Sunghoon and your brother were stunned with your change in attitude. Your brother was quick to face his best friend with a raising eyebrow.

Sunghoon raised his hands in defense, muttering the words of ‘I didn’t do anything’. Your brother hummed and smacked lips against his teeth before taking the lead and walking down the aisle.

Sunghoon didn’t follow him as easy as he followed you. He kept glancing around the store in hopes of finding you where you ran off to. He didn’t know why you always seemed to flee from the scene whenever you were with him alone.

The time you returned, they were already carrying the bags out the store and you appeared beside them. Your brother asked where you were, but you shrugged your shoulders and kept to yourself.

The change in your demeanor was noticed not only by your brother but by his best friend as well. Sunghoon kept silence but the worry growing in his heart was settling at a fast rate.

When you sat in the backseat of his car, he was even more surprised. Usually, you sat in the front seat alongside him but not tonight. Your brother tried to get your attention but you shooed him off stating you simply tired.

Both of them knew that wasn’t the case, but neither wanted to persist if you didn’t want to tell them. Sunghoon and your brother created some conversation in the car to get rid of the awkwardness.

You simply looked outside the window to see the passing scenery as Sunghoon drove. You weren’t ignoring them because of something they had done but rather because of your own running thoughts.

After the moment you had with Sunghoon, you needed to escape in order to calm your beating heart. The realization that settled into your heart made it fall to the pit of your stomach.

You were falling in love with your brother’s best friend and you knew he didn’t feel the same way as you.

You knew you liked Sunghoon and with the progression of these feelings, it could possibly lead to something more, but having the realization in a store wasn’t the most admirable place to realize it.

When the three of came home, you were quick to head to your room not wanting to be in the presence of Sunghoon any longer. Your brother and Sunghoon were beyond confused on seeing your sudden change in mood, but your brother brushed you off while Sunghoon couldn’t.

His mind and heart raced a millions thoughts and he wondered was it something that happened that you weren’t telling them. Yet, the worst one that lingered in his mind, was it something that he did to possible upset?

After that incident, you seemed to avoid Sunghoon like the plague. Whenever he was over, you so happened needed to go out or would be in your room until he left. He was hurt by your actions because one moment you were having a moment then the next moment you act as if he doesn’t exist.

You decided asking the internet on how to move on from your love on your older brother’s best friend wasn’t the best mechanism. But, it was either this or facing rejection from Sunghoon by confessing your feelings.

You knew neither of them would be any good but you preferred protecting your own heart by ignoring him and possibly break it by the rejection.

You needed to prepare but for right now, you’re in no state for it.

Sunghoon was sick of this. It’s been over two months since you started ignoring him and he didn’t know why it bothered him so much but he was at his limit. He didn’t want to pressure you, the last thing he wanted to do was make you uncomfortable.

But he simply couldn’t bear the fact that you wouldn’t even acknowledge him anymore.

He tried to discreetly address it to your brother but your brother brushed it off by saying you were fine and that you interacted with him the same way you used to. That was the indication Sunghoon needed to realize, you were ignoring him only.

He was going to be staying the night, so he hopped that he would be able to catch you roaming around the house in order to talk. He simply wanted to clear the air, that’s what he kept repeating in his mind on constant, he wasn’t so sure if that was the case.

Sunghoon didn’t expect to stay up so late at night, but he waited for any faint movement that would show you came out of your room. He knew this was strange even for him, but he couldn’t bear any longer not talking to you.

He knew he was going to be in for a long night.

His eyes never shut once, he simply looked at the ceiling hoping for any type of drowsiness to take over yet, it never did. What lingered in his mind was you and he couldn’t seem to get rid of it.

The moment he walked out of his best friend’s room, he took a lot glance to your door. It still laid shut just like

how he first saw it since earlier that day.

He sighed deeply and was going to go to kitchen but it seemed his body had a mind of its own. It was quick to walk over to your door and before he knew it, he was lightly knocking on it.

He expected you to be asleep and when he realized what he’s done, he groaned softly before turning around to go back to your brother’s room. But what he didn’t expect was for you to be opening the door.

He turned at the sound and when he saw you at the door, both of your eyes widen. Sunghoon remained frozen for a moment, he was awkwardly standing as he had been caught red handed.

“What are you doing?” Your voice was soft, it wasn’t like how it used to be when the two of you talked but he didn’t mind it

“Um sorry, I’ll come back another time” Sunghoon straightened out posture before walking away, you were going to let him go but your mind screamed

You opened the door wide enough and you found whispering out to him to get his attention. When his name fell from your mouth, Sunghoon felt a sudden sensation in his heart.

He gulped before nervously turning to see you. He doesn’t remember the last he fully saw you, it felt years when it’s only been merely two months.

It was still a long time for him.

Sunghoon awkwardly sat on a chair inside your room. This was foreign territory to him, he had only been in your room one time and it was because no one else wanted to deal with waking you up, so he had to be the one.

He nervously played with his fingers and you took notice of that. Normally, this would have swooned you, but you were more focused on making sure your heart didn’t burst out of your chest.

What could have he wanted so late in the night to the point where he was knocking at your door. You hadn’t spoken to him in over two months, so you could only wondered what this would be about.

“So um” You softly began and Sunghoon quickly cleared his throat and raised his head that was looking at the ground

When his gaze landed onto you, it lingered for a moment longer than he expected.

“Why are you ignoring me?” The question came off rather quicker than either of you had expected, you didn’t expect to be addressed on the situation

Your gaze was the first to leave as it landed onto a random place in your room. You could feel Sunghoon’s eyes never leaving you, you shuffled around a little bit. You were debating whether to ignore it or address finally what’s been in your heart and mind.

“I’ve just been so occupied with things, I didn’t realize I was ignoring you” You mumbled, your gaze still facing away from Sunghoon, he obviously took notice of this

He nodded his head, he could tell you were lying. It was one of things he learned the more you two spent together.

“Well you’re lying” His words caught you buy surprise, you knew you were lying but how did he know that, you let out a scoff which was noticed by him

“Excuse me?”

“You’ve been ignoring me for two months straight, not a single greeting, not even a glance my way. How do you think I feel?” The hint of tone in his voice made you freeze, you’ve never heard Sunghoon like this before

When you stayed silent, you could hear the light groan from Sunghoon before getting up from the chair to make his way over to you. You could feel his presence in front of you, but you didn’t dare to look at him.

“Can you look at me? Please” You gulped down the nervousness forming in your throat before finally making eye contact with him

The thumping in your chest, the fluttering and turning of your stomach, reminded you why you steered cleared of him. You loved Sunghoon.

“Why are you ignoring me?” His voice was tender, afraid if he raised it even louder he would scare you away

“Was it something I did? I’m so sorry, I would never mean to harm or hurt you in anyway. I never want to upset you” You could feel the bursting of your heart, you couldn’t take it anymore

The two months you spent trying to get over Sunghoon was in vain. All he needed to do was show up at your bedroom door to have you falling into the spiral of love.

“You can’t say things like this” You groaned as you walked past Sunghoon and his gaze followed you with worry

“What is it? What did I say?” When you turned to face him, the emotion in his eyes made you sure it was over, you couldn’t hold back anymore

“Sunghoon you couldn’t possibly do anything to hurt me. That’s the problem” He looked to you confused, which was expected, but he wouldn’t be prepared for the confession you were going to give

You weren’t even prepared.

“You can’t say things like that because it’s only going to make me fall in love with you more. I can’t have that. I’m trying to get over you”

“I can’t handle having the thought of you linger in my head everyday. Especially when I know you would never look my way”

“It’s to save myself from the rejection. From the stupid heartbreak-“ You couldn’t even finish your sentence until you felt the crashing of his lips onto yours

Everything had happened to quickly, but you immediately melted into his touch. Sunghoon’s lips were almost desperate, trying to savor the moment as if it were a dream.

He couldn’t handle hearing you any longer saying that he would never look your way. That he couldn’t possibly like you, when you were the only thing in his mind ever since he’s met you.

“Don’t say that” He muttered in the kiss, his hands cupped your cheek, never seeming to let you go

He didn’t know how long you and him have been kissing, but what he did know was that he never wanted it to end. Having you in his arms felt right, seeming to forget that your brother, his best friend was just down the hall.

Yet, to him it made sense. He felt like this was his sole purpose, to be with you and make you happy.

“Don’t play with my emotions Sunghoon” You mumbled as you parted from him and Sunghoon could only chuckle, pampering soft kisses onto your face

This was something you would never expect, let alone kissing Sunghoon. You felt like you were in a cloud soaring through the sky, and you never wanted to wake up if this was a dream.

“Can’t play with them, if I feel the same way” Sunghoon was quick to the reconnect your lips together in glee that seemed to form a bubble of just you snd him

That night, Sunghoon had to leave at the crack of dawn to make sure he wasn’t caught coming out of your room before sneaking back into your brother’s room.

You and him would have to be much more hidden about your growing relationship from your brother who so happened to be his best friend.

You jumped when your brother suddenly barged into your room. You stared at him in confusion and his eyes narrowed down at you.

“Have you seen Sunghoon? I can’t find him” You shrugged your shoulder before snapping your fingers

“I saw him leaving, saying how he was going to run some errands before coming back” Your brother looked at you in shock but pushed it to the back of his head

“Oh really?” You didn’t pick up at your brother’s tone and you nodded your head, he hummed before slowly walking out of your room

“Alright, I’ll just send him a text and see if he could get somethings for us” Once your brother left and he closed the door, you let out the breath you were holding and you could heard Sunghoon’s whisper

“Is he gone yet?” You went over to your closet and that’s when you saw your boyfriend crumbled up, you let out a giggle as he walked out

He groaned lightly getting rid of the hanger that stuck to his shirt. You smiled and helped dust off his clothes and you didn’t realize the soft gaze Sunghoon had on you. He watched you in mere awe and when you looked to him, his smile only got brighter.

“Hi” His voice was soft and you rolled your eyes before walking away back onto your bed, as he followed after you

“I said hi” Sunghoon took a seat on your bed and you smiled before waving to him

“Hi Sunghoon” His smile was bright and laid onto your bed as if it was his own, he loved how comfortable he felt that he could feel his eyes lids becoming heavy

You and Sunghoon have been hiding your relationship from practically everyone for over five months now. You know it should’ve came out much sooner yet the two of you were scared.

Both fearful on how your brother would react to the news. He wasn’t overprotective but you couldn’t possible figure out how he would react to this.

Sunghoon was the most worried out of the two of you, which is practically understandable. He didn’t want to ruin the friendship he had with your brother but he also didn’t want to let you go because of it.

So the two of you had to stick with sneaking around and going out every now and then to have dates. It was ideal but it’s what needed to be done for the time being.

You began playing with Sunghoon’s hair as he laid on your bed. He closed his eyes with a warm smile and you could feel your heart swelling, you never thought a time like this would ever happen. You only imagined that you would admire him from afar, never did you expect to be in a relationship with him.

Unexpected things happen, sometimes you just have to wait for them.

“I could lay here forever” Sunghoon softly muttered but you giggled at his words which caused him to open one and look at you

“Don’t get too comfortable, you have errands to run” And right with your words, Sunghoon’s phone pinged and when he pulled out his phone the two of you could see the list your brother sent to him

He groaned loudly and you tried to console your laughter but it was hard when you saw his reaction. He looked to you as if asking if you could come alone with him but you shook your head.

He groaned even louder and you had to shush him before having your brother barge into your room and catch the both of you. He wrapped his arms around you, wanting to sink in the comforts of your bed.

“It’ll be better to be caught now than having to go the grocery shopping”

He shouldn’t have meant those words literally because not even a moment later, your bedroom door opened and in walked your brother.

“Hey I was wondering if you wanted-“ All three of your remained frozen in shock, you and Sunghoon were quick to separate from each other and sit up on your bed

You could feel the sinking of your heart seeing your brother frozen at your front door. He hadn’t even blinked and only looked between you and his best friend with an agape mouth.

“So um Sunghoon, why aren’t you doing your errands?” Your brother finally asked still not taking his eyes off the two of you, Sunghoon was quick to get off the bed and face his best friend

“Oh um well you see” Sunghoon tried his best to ramble on with an excuse but when none of his words were making sense, your brother raised a hand to stop him

“Why is my best friend in your room and not doing errands?” Your brother looked past Sunghoon to you, you looked at him with confusion and slowly got off your bed to stand next to Sunghoon

Your brother’s eyes widen for a moment before clearing his throat.

“I was okay with the relationship but having to see it is something I’ll have to get used to” Your brother mumbled and that was more than enough to catch both of your attentions

“What did you say?” You question your brother and you could see the scoff bubbling in him before he let it out

“You can’t possibly think the two of you were actually hiding your relationship?” Your brother started to laugh at the thought and you and Sunghoon turned to each other with wide eyes

You waited for your brother to come down from his laughter and when he finally did, you questioned him.

“You knew? For how long?”

“Ever since Sunghoon snuck out of my room to go to yours” Sunghoon nearly fainted at the realization, that was over five months ago when he went to confront to you

You and Sunghoon remained silent for a moment and your brother realized that it wasn’t the best time to catch the two of you. He sighed deeply before rubbing his temple.

“Sunghoon isn’t necessarily good at hiding his love for you” Sunghoon was quick to shoot a glare to your brother for his remark as he only shrugged his shoulders

“Only saying the truth, you would always mention her whenever we were at. Saying stuff like ‘Oh she would like this’ or ‘This would be nice for her’. It was easy to put the pieces together”

“I didn’t want to confront you on it because I wanted to wait until the two of you were ready to tell me”

“I let you guys have your freedom and peace pretending I was oblivious to it even though Sunghoon made it nearly impossible, I tried”

“I genuinely thought Sunghoon was running errands hence why I sent him the list. I didn’t expect for him to actually still be here” Your brother explained and you could only shake your head before groaning, you practically feel Sunghoon emitting remorse for being so obvious

“But you aren’t mad?” Sunghoon finally asked the question the two of you have been waited to be answered

“Of course not. I was a little annoyed having to wait and act oblivious but I realized it was what made the two of you comfortable so it was fine”

“I hate to admit it but I actually care about her. She’s my sister before anything, especially before our friendship. So just don’t hurt her Sunghoon, keep her happy” Your brother put out a hand for his best friend to shake and Sunghoon was happy to firmly shake hands

“I wouldn’t dare hurt her” You found yourself smiling to yourself and that’s when you caught Sunghoon’s eyes with your own, the smile growing on his face was enough for you to grab his free hand into yours

“Definitely try to keep whatever this is to a minimum” Your brother motioned to you and Sunghoon’s intertwined hands and that caused you to laugh

“Got it” With that your brother gave a last genuine smile, which was something you don’t really see often so it was rather nice to witness

When your brother left, Sunghoon was quick to wrap an arm around you before placing a kiss against your cheek. You giggled at his actions and you didn’t realize you giggled louder than how you usually would.

“I said keep it to a minimum! And tell Sunghoon to hurry up and get the list!” Your brother yelled from somewhere else and that caused the two of you to laugh

“I think he’s fine with the relationship” Sunghoon muttered and you nodded your head in agreement

“So you talked about me a lot huh?” You teased and he groaned loudly, you giggled before moving some of his hair away from his face

“It’s cute that you couldn’t seem to hide your love for me” You smiled and Sunghoon scoffed before rolling his eyes

“You’re one to talk about hiding love”

You nodded your head, muttering a small ‘I know’. The rest of the moment was settled with a comfortable silence as the two of you just stayed in each other’s embrace.

You never expected to have Sunghoon as yours but it seems that your hidden love was returned by him and he beyond over the moon to be able to be called yours.

Neither of you knew what would be in store now that your relationship was known but for now, you were to experience it to the fullest with each other.

“It was a good hidden love while it lasted but let’s finally be open mhm?”
