Hey! I hope you're doing well. I’m reaching out because I really need help getting more eyes on my pinned post. It’s for a family in need, and a simple reblog could make a huge difference. Would you mind boosting it? Thank you so much! 💛
of course, just reblogged ❤️❤️❤️❤️
It’s really no wonder that men cling desperately to the institutions that don’t allow women out from under their brutality. Separatism terrifies them for good reason. Look at single-sex male spaces in prisons, schools, and industries. When men/boys are alone together, they quickly create castes where they treat their lowers like they treat women in broader society - and the abuse knows no limits. It’s often sexual, often fatal, and it always revolves around degradation. Males recreate patriarchy, even when they’re alone together. They’re terrified of their own brutality and need to use women as a buffer.

The nature symbolism in The Picture of Dorian Gray makes me go FERAL!!
The way that the nature similes and imagery start to become less and less prevalent as Dorian loses his humanity!! They go from almost multiple a page to barely one a chapter; the way he stops aging goes against the way that nature is supposed to go.
The way that a main character (Basil) who suffers at Dorian’s hand is literally shares a name with an aspect of nature!! Dorian has gone against the will of nature and is paying for it.
The fact that Dorian is offered and eats cherries the night before gaining his undying youth; in some mythologies, the cherry tree contains the elixir to give the gods their eternal life. To add on, cherries in literature usually represent immortality and youth.
The fact that the flowers in Basil’s garden represent romance/love/beauty/courage (roses), purity/innocent/spirituality (lilacs), pain/pleasure (pink-flowering thorn), and PENSIVE/FORSAKEN BEAUTY (laburnum). The way Henry rips apart SEVERAL pink daisies (represents gentleness and love) in the very first chapter. The way Basil keeps a book titled “Forest Scenes” in his house. Basil is a person who nurtures beauty and love and romance in the purest way he can and is hurt horribly by the way Henry poisons Dorian’s brain and rips him apart.
And that just SKIMS the surface. THE NATURE SYMBOLISM IN THIS BOOK!! I’M GOING TO EAT DRYWALL ISTG
One facet of female solidarity that needs more discussion is anti consumerism and anti consumption. Our current western mindset is one of obtaining as much as possible, both as a show of wealth and for personal comfort. However, much of what we buy (for example, fast fashion) is produced in a non-transparent supply chain that frequently relies on female and Global South labor to make goods cheap and easily affordable, and thus more tempting for the consumer. These low wages that are paid to workers result in economic desperation and trap women in poorly paid, often abusive positions. Additionally, women and children are the most at risk from the negative effects of climate change, which is exacerbated by industrialization and over production.
By consuming less we reduce support for these predatory supply chains and their deleterious effects on the environment. Ideally if we buy goods, they are from female owned businesses whenever possible. Personally I also avoid spending money on items that enforce the beauty standard (this includes makeup, uncomfortable or impractical clothes or shoes, and cosmetic procedures). Essentially, what ways could you support female solidarity through consumption habits?

September will be filled with kindness.
September will be filled with opportunity.
September will be filled with love.
