Thank you so much! I was very worried I would end up offending people, and I’d grown quite attached to them.
Zaneerah and Saida will be portrayed to be quite intelligent and I’d go as far as to say that they were ahead of their time. Especially Saida, who’d worked so hard to be inclusive of everyone and offered a leg-up while simultaneously encouraging people to accept themselves as they are. Zaneerah becomes one of the most powerful wixes in the magical world, despite the fact that she’s blind (and proud).
I read a post that suggested that perhaps the children who’d showed signs of magic would be seen as being blessed by Allah. I rather like the idea, as it would explain maybe why their parents would be thrilled while also be a bit nervous around magic; they love that they have the Gift of Allah, but also, magic has a lot of bad rep and they don’t quite know how to act.
I just found out that Muslims believe that every kind of magic is Black Magic (correct me if I’m wrong). Now I’m a bit afraid of writing them into my Harry Potter rewrite, since I wanted to represent them but if it’s going to offend my Muslim readers, then I think I probably shouldn’t. Still, here’s what I had in plan for them (there was supposed to be two characters who were Muslim).
They’re best friends whose family are also very close. They’re supposed to be muggleborn witches. One of them (Zaneerah) is blind, and the other one (Saida) doesn’t have any disability. So once they get to Hogwarts and they realized just how inaccessible the school is for students with any kind of disabilities, the two muslim best friends work together to find magical ways to make life easier.
After their project is done and over with and Zaneerah begins excelling in her classes with her new spells and such, Saida finds that her passions lay in helping those with certain disabilities. She spends the rest of her school years working closely with other disabled students to find something that helps them without actually erasing their disability (if they don’t wish to).
I’m disabled, so I thought this would be a cool idea. But if it’ll offend my Muslim readers then perhaps I shouldn’t proceed? What do you think? Because I do believe that there must be magical people all over the country regardless of where they’re from or their religion, should these girls struggle with their newfound identity while at school? Maybe have some issues with their families? They would have to attend Hogwarts or some magical school because otherwise they’d become Obscurials.
Again, if it’s too complicated, or would still offend my Muslim readers, just tell me the word and I’ll remove this idea and replace it with someone else.
Hi! I think it's completely okay to write that! Since it's a fictional story and you're doing it to represent Muslims, I don't think it would offend the muslim readers and from what you've described of your characters, they don't seem to fall into the problematic and stereotypical muslim representation media often shows (as in you know portraying them as terrorists and always violent) And speaking of, muslim families being shown as not accepting their children's differences is also a somewhat repetitive and harmful trope in many media, so I'd suggest to not have that and have them be supportive even if they don't understand
But yeah I think you should go for it! It's a very good idea! I love that you're writing this to represent the muslim and disabled community
What made you guys first read Harry Potter?
I first read it because a girl I liked was a fan and I wanted to impress her 🙃 didn’t work, but now I’m stuck in this fandom heh
Hari raised by Wolfstar :D
Hi, Anon! Thank you for voting! I’ll add it to my chart. Also, loved that you used Hari’s Indian name💜
I wanted to take the chance to also thank everyone who’s been voting, please keep them coming! The vote won’t end until I’ve finished (or mostly finished) my Marauders’ era part of the rewrite. If you’ve got any comments or questions about it, please let me know!
For anyone that’s wondering what the vote is about, you can go ahead and see it here!
remadora hate squad…. assemble!!
Reblogged, refreshed my page, forgot I reblogged this, saw this again, was about to reblog it, noticed that it was me that reblogged it, reblogged anyways
reblog if what jkr says is no longer canon to you
I’m feeling called out and I don’t like it 🙃
maybe if you hate hp so much you shouldn’t be writing fifty page long dissertations about whether dumbles’ left nutsack is responsible for your ship not coming true
Hey, so they’re making a Netflix Harry Potter.
With that in mind, we’re all gonna remember that JKR is a terf who has literally been cited by legislators engaged in legislation that actively harms trans people, and we’re not gonna give her any more money.
That means not streaming the new show on Netflix, because regardless of how much influence she has on the production, she gets paid for it.
We’re gonna make the show flop. We’re gonna show Warner Brothers that we don’t forget (of course, how would we forget, it isn’t as if she’s stopped), and that their business association with terfs is no longer profitable.
It is NOT like Lovecraft, because Lovecraft is very dead and his works are in the public domain. By consuming Lovecraft media, you are not giving any money to old Howard.
Headcannon: When Severus and Lily were kids, they listened to all sorts of muggle music. Mr. and Mrs. Evans had an impressive collection of records that Lily and Sev would spend hours upon hours listening though. Through the years of his friendship with Lily, Severus was gifted records and continued listening to muggle music through the ‘80s and even into the ‘90s.
I think Arthur would be everyone’s favorite grandpa. His own grandchildren would probably cringe a bit, but the muggle kids would feel SO proud to have impressed such an adorable old man. I think they’d bring him some of their favorite, most mundane muggle objects just because Arthur would understand the hype and geek out about it together. It’s not what Arthur intended, but once he realized how good it made these kids feel, he just allowed everyone to call him grandpa. Everyone is his grandchild now.
Can people please shut the fuck up about how “shipping every male character is harmful to the male friendship representation”
Literally almost every single peace of media has platonic male friendships in it and almost none of them ends up in a canon relationship. So there IS representation. Some people shipping those characters don’t take away their canon friendship.
And it doesn’t only happen to the male friendships. Every close female and male/female friendship you see on screen will always have people shipping them.
Because guess what? That’s how fandoms work. It doesn’t only happen with male friendships.
Are we really ignoring all the people who assume every man and woman who breaths the same air are canonically in love with each other? But somehow it’s only a problem when queer people do it.
Are we really ignoring how we get so little male/female friendships in media without writers turning it romantic at some point?
But we never get to see two close male leads of an action movie kissing at the end do we? So shut up about “friendship representation” You have tons of platonic friendships.
And the thing is, a lot of people who say this don’t even care about platonic friendships or mlm fetishization by straight girls. They’re just trying to find a way to put queer ships down. They never say “I think this two specific characters are good friends so I don’t like it when people ship them”
Instead, it’s always “these characters showed a little pinch of interest to opposite gender so they’re straight. just let people be friends and stop making everything gay”
Because they’re not actually mad about people shipping two close friends together. They’re mad about people offering the possibility of some fictional characters not being straight
Am I throwing whatever JKRoach wrote about werewolves out the window for the sake of my fic? Yes, yes I am.
