when you're revising your document, rewriting where it needs, editing out-editing in, in the flow
and then suddenly you REALIZE
that you've fallen prey to the 'it's logical'-goblin that every writer knows that tricks you into believing that you've set up all the foreshadowing necessary because it all makes sense to YOU
but you realize with dawning horror
that you're not just the reader, you're also the writer
and so of course it makes sense if Character A is a cat for 20+ chapters, turns human for only 2 chapters and then has a full-on make-out session with Character B
it makes sense
because you wrote it
and the "it's-logical"-goblin told you that it's logical when you read it
because the logical-goblin is an effin' logical fallacy is what it is
and now i don't have enough foreshadowing

“You gotta stop this, princess,” he sighs as he feels the weight of her small body spreading over his feet.
The tabby looks up at him with a slow, content blink as she oozes herself all over his shoes.
“I’m gonna pick you up and bring you home if you’re not careful, and you don’t even know what kind of man I am,” he lectures her, “that’s no way to find yourself a human.” But even as he chides her, he bends, scratching her behind her dainty, bright ears.
She pushes into his touch, eyes closing into a content cat-smile and Satori can’t help but echo the sentiment.
I get that there are ships I would not consider writing or reading and I get that there are ships and dynamics that I, personally, would consider toxic but I also recognize that I am not forced to engage in those kinds of ships/dynamics, that is what filters are for, and other people might enjoy it!
However, I can not articulate that well enough in dialogue - written or spoken - which, in turn, makes me a petty asshole who will vague-post about this on the one hand and petty-spam on the other hand.
You want people to agree with you that these relationships are toxic?
Guess what, buddy.
That's all the content I'm gonna post.
(I also recognize that this is not the most mature of solutions. Hence the title.)
Should you find yourself in a situation of considering a ship toxic, filter it, ao3 and tumblr and, as I understand it, most platforms give you the ability to.
Should you be triggered by certain events that might occur in a fanfiction, you can filter.
You do not have to read it.
No one can make you click that link and read that story with your very own eyes.
Screen-readers will read tags to you (hi, this is why it's important to know how to tag, y'all, btw).
You don't like it?
Don't read it.

fanfic writers are so fucking awesome man. they write novel length fics that are sometimes even better than some published bestselling books written by professional writers. like fanfic writers are professional writers to me and they gift us their masterpieces for free. they give us something we can look forward to after a long day. something from which we can seek comfort when life is hard. something that can be our own little getaway. in a world of capitalism, despite everything, they give us all of these for free. like holy fuck. shout out to every fanfic writer. I wish all fanfic writers a very ‘I love you with all my heart and soul. I thank you from the bottom of my heart’
Urgh. That moment when you think you're ready and prepared to finally publish that story you've been working on only to hit Publish and then realise that it's really nowhere near fuck'n finished and you need to delete it again so you can rewrite all of it.

Heyaa.. As you mentioned previously.. may I ask why you don't like iwaoi as a ship that much? I really wanna know cuzz I feel that would really help me story<3~
Oh! Well goodness. It's more of a preference thing? Personally I just don't see them in that constellation, but I also love how other people depict/ describe them in a relationship!
When I say I don't like it it's more of a: I don't go out looking for it, but if I happen across a piece and it's well written, maybe I'll read it and maybe I'll even like it (has happened and likely might happen again).
Personally, when I see Oikawa, I see someone terribly focused and determined, and also someone who grows so much (this is, imo, shown better in the manga than the anime). But I don't relate to him that much (except for playing volleyball with a dang knee injury, been there, done that) on a personal level and, to me, rarepairs and polycules are a much more interesting fare to read and write.
You probably wanted a short answer, sorry for the rant, but also: in terms of helping your story-- as someone who writes themselves just... don't focus too much on what other people think of your ship/idea/story? Write it. Be glad you can write it. Revise it. Again and again and again if necessary- just enough that you've felt the ache of writing and come out satisfied with the piece you've made- and don't mind what others say.
If you take away anything for your story I hope it'd be that.
