Crosshair X F!Reader
word count: 1.7k
You and Crosshair are partnered up for a swanky night at a senate ball to retrieve some information. Not getting along very well in the first place, your day gets worse as you discover that it will be Crosshair himself with the help of Omega to retrieve your dress for the night.
warnings: SFW, reader and Crosshair don’t get along very well. Omega and Crosshair bonding. Reader being annoyed. Next chapter will be better. This chapter is definitely a filler, just a lead up to the second part. Also events are set where Crosshair doesn’t join the Empire.
———————————
“So Tech, are you ready for tonight?”
Walking into the cockpit, a spring in your step and a smile on your face you look down at the clone who turns to you.
“Unfortunately, we’ve had to have a change of plans. It is not I who will be helping you gather the intel tonight as I have to be stationed here and check the security cameras.” He tells you.
“Oh.” You reply, not particularly upset or bothered about it but if you wanted a safe and unquestionable mission you would have chosen to go with Tech. Every time. “Who’s my partner then?”
That’s when Hunter came in, your attention drew to him. “Is it you?”
“Is it me, what?”
“Am I partnered with you tonight since Tech is here?” It would be surprising if that was the case as Hunter isn’t one for loud places and lots of people. Also, the tattoo that covered half his face would be unusual for the senators to see. In fact it was only Tech who could get away with appearing to be the most normal.
“Yeah… we gotta speak to you about that.” There was an amused gleam in Hunter's eyes and you didn’t even have to ask him who you were going with. You already knew.
“If the next name that comes out of your lips isn't Wrecker, Echo or even Omega I will never speak to you again.” You warn him with a finger point.
Hunter and Tech cast a gaze to one another. Tech spoke first. “It will be very difficult for us to work together if one of us decides to go mute.” Tech then raises a finger, a sudden wave of knowledge circulating his incredible mind. “Although there are successful tales of those who are blind or deaf who have been a great service to when the GAR-”
“Tech, please.” You pinch the bridge of your nose, trying to steady your growing annoyance. You would’ve loved to listen more but your gut feeling about being paired up with Crosshair was doing nothing for your nerves.
The problem with you and Crosshair is that you both never really spoke. When you did, it’d be some snarky remark and him critiquing every little thing you did as if to say ‘you’re an idiot, this is how I’d do it’.
When your eyes would meet, which was often, he would give you an annoyed glare like it was your fault for just being there. Anything you did seemed to irritate him so it must have been some great persuasion to accompany you tonight. You didn’t particularly hate him, you just would rather have better company.
“Right. Great. Nice to know that my evening will be ruined.” You throw your hands up in frustration, leaning across the door in the cockpit.
“The evening isn’t meant to be fun.” Hunter says with a roll with his eyes but you didn’t miss the smile on his lips.
“Oh yeah because drinking champagne, splashing credits and dressing all pretty for a night when you’re usually in armour and covered in sweat sounds soooo boring.” You retort sarcastically and let out a dramatic sigh, knowing you should go out and buy something to wear. It was a very last minute plan given to you and the Batch.
You start to walk towards the bunks, grabbing your things. “Better go buy a dress then shouldn’t I?” You call out, gesturing to your soon to be departure.
“Oh I wouldn’t worry abou’ that.” You heard Wrecker call from above you. You glance up to see him looking down at you from your bunk with a naughty smirk.
“Why?” You asked slowly. His grin widened and you looked around noticing that Crosshair and Omega were nowhere to be seen.
“ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!”
——————————-
“When are you going to tell her you like her?”
These types of questions had been fired more at Crosshair than any droid ever had. Omega was persistent and a large part of Crosshair regrets allowing her to tag along with him into the market that day.
Echo told him it’d be good to bond with the kid but if her asking him questions about his feelings on you was discussed previously, he would’ve declined the bonding session.
“I don’t like her.” Crosshair growled under his breath, trying to not lash out and shout at her.
Omega scoffed and shook her head. “Yeah, and I have four arms.”
Crosshair glared at the young girl down at his side at her sarcastic comment, knowing for a fact she probably learnt that from Echo or Tech. “Attitude girl.” He warned her but Omega didn’t take it personally. In fact she was rather enjoying this rare time with him. After all, it was her idea to get you a dress to much of his displeasure and allowed her to drag him into the market.
Omega soon spotted a suitable shop, tugging on Crosshair's arm to which he had tried to free himself from but her grip was tight as she led him in.
Crosshair had been to many planets in his time and had seen many different vibrant colours but his mouth slacked open as a rainbow of colour suddenly engulfed him. A definite contrast from the outside world.
He was definitely out of his depth.
Omega squealed in excitement, never having seen so many pretty dresses in loads of different shapes, styles and sizes.
Crosshair stood stupidly in the centre of the shop, not even knowing what to do. He had half the mind to turn around and leave but Omega had already started pulling out dresses. “What about this one?!”
Crosshair stares at it and grimaces at the amount of frills, the specific colour and how heavy it looked. Maker, it practically drowned Omega as she lifted the hanger above her head.
“No.”
Omega pouted but put it back before pulling out the one next to it. “This one?”
He glances up as he takes a seat on a poof, head threatening to fall into his hands. “No.”
“This one?” Omega asked, pointing at a dress on a mannequin. Although it was nice, he shook his head.
“She things sequins are harsh on the eye.” He gnaws on the toothpick, hating how he somehow knew these details.
Another pout followed by another dress reveal. “And this one?”
“Too floral. She’s not into that.” He comments, shaking his head at the fact he knew that small detail about you. You liked rather simplistic designs.
“Well that narrows it down.” Crosshair wasn’t sure if that was sarcasm this time but again, she pulled out another dress but this one was too short.
“She won’t like it.” He shakes his head, plopping a toothpick into his mouth. He glances around the store, glad that it was just him, the kid and surely a shop assistant nearby.
Omega smirks, skimming through the rows of dresses. “Thought you didn’t care about what she likes and dislikes?”
Crosshair gave her a sour look and Omega raised her hands in mock defence. “Alright, alright… this one.”
She lifts out another dress but this one was a little skimpier than the others. With a long slit at the side, the waist having cut outs to show flesh along with a plunging neckline, Crosshair curses to himself internally as he realised he may actually like to see you in something like that... maybe one day.
No Crosshair... pull yourself together. He shouts in his mind.
But, for his own sanity and your own, he shook his head. “Nah, she finds velvet irritating on her skin.”
Omega simply nods but she couldn’t help but giggle as she realised that he knew a lot of your likes and dislikes which only elevated her theory on him having a secret crush on you.
The dress hunt took longer than Crosshair would have liked. Even Omega was beginning to get fed up, her little arms straining from hauling dresses from the back of the shop all the way over to him for him to say that it’s too fluffy or too big or too short or too impractical. “Why don’t you have a look since you know her so well.” Omega finally says, slumping back on the stool next to the window. “I’m tired.”
“Your daughter is right.” The shop clerk spoke up, leaning over the counter with their head resting in your hand. “You need to hurry up and pick a dress, the shop's closing in ten.”
“She ain’t my daughter.” Crosshair grumbles though Omega giggles at the thought. Reluctantly, he stands and takes some awkward steps around the shop and tries to pick one that caught his.
“Try to pick something that will look good with your suit.” Omega called out, a helpful suggestion that Crosshair tried to ignore but bad took on board.
As he scans, something catches his eyes. If he remembered, he heard you saying that this was particularly your favourite colour. He pulled it partly out from the rack, looking up and down and nodding in approval. “Omega. Here.” He commanded and she jumped to her feet and scooted her way over to him to see what he had picked.
“Wow!” Omega practically beamed, grabbing the bottom of the dress and running it through her hands. “This is beautiful!”
Not wanting to appear smug in his clear good taste, he did need some confirmation. “You think?” He asked and she nodded.
“It’s not too heavy, it’s not too over the top. It’s her favourite colour too!” Omega cheered, looking up to her brother who didn’t even realise he was smiling until she looked at him, the smile fading as quick as it did appear. Omega saw it however.
Omega sighed happily, admiring the bodice and nodding. “It will bring out her eyes too. Don’t you think?”
Crosshair wishes she had not asked that as a sudden image of your eyes burned in his mind. He wasn’t blind, in fact his vision was clearly better than most so he definitely knew that you had rather lovely eyes.
They were soft, kind and full of life most of the time but he had noticed them change once their eyes would meet. They weren’t particularly cold, but he would’ve liked to see the warmth of them whilst you looked his way.
His heart fluttered to his dismay.
“Yeah... it does.”
