“western media wont talk about this but the vietnamese government is helping citizens fight the coronavirus by offering free /proper/ meals for people in quarantine areas and free groceries/necessities for a whole neighborhood in lockdown”
———————–
“- here people will be placed in quarantine due to travel history, showing symptoms or recent contact with current patients - the neighborhood in lockdown is because the 17th patient, possibly a “super spreader”, resided there”
“some korean travelers are also in quarantine so they were given korean meals because what if they aren’t used to vietnamese food”
“i ran out of characters but this is also meant to poke fun at how the usa and some european nations respond to this outbreak, both their government and people. anw if you constantly think of countries in the global south with your shallow eurocentric bias then karma will get you.”
“Muting this now reach me through DM if you need to! Appreciate all the good sentiments”
“your gov may be shitty but extend your appreciation and support to doctors & healthcare workers on the frontline of this crisis! if you cant wear masks, wash hands often, avoid touching MEN (Mouth Eyes Nose), and avoid crowds (PLEASE). the system is in shambles so be proactive”
———————–
“The Vietnam government makes sure the neighbors of the “super spreader” number 17th has enough food for 14 days. The citizens in quarantine be making friends, cleaning up the place together, giving out roses for women patients for International Women day, even fall in love lol~”

Hi, everyone! I try to keep this blog as on topic as possible but I wanted to talk a bit about the impact COVID-19 has had on a lot of us.
First, I want to express to anyone that may need to hear it that it’s completely valid and understandable to be scared right now. Many of our lives have been completely uprooted thanks to this pandemic. Many of us have lost our jobs, been abruptly sent home from school, worried about our health, and dealt with difficulties staying home and away from others.
As cheesy as it may sound, no one is alone in this. We all, technically, have easy access to our friends and family still thanks to social media/texting. It can be difficult to actually reach out to others, however, and to help out with that I’d like to offer my support to all of you that may need it.
I know that most—if not all—of you that read this are not at all close to me, nor have I previously spoken with almost any of you, but if you need someone to talk to right now—about anything, really—feel free to message me. As long as your message doesn’t strike me as odd or threatening, I’ll gladly reply. If you want to talk anonymously, feel free to send me anonymous asks and I’ll gladly respond to them. Keeping our community happy and healthy is one of the most important things we can do right now and I really hope you’re all doing okay right now.
Stay safe out there,
Sonja
And March 13th, which was also a Friday to make matters worse, is the anniversary of the lockdown (for the US, at least)
Happy plagueiversary
Incredibly important, and incredibly informative. This pandemic is not over, it’s just been brushed under the rug.
Here, have a free science zine with a ridiculously long title! Endless thanks to my partner and fellow disabled artist, Kimball Anderson aka @earnestattempts, who helped through the entire year-long process with art edits and image descriptions (located in the alt text). Additional thanks to my friends Dupe and Caitlin, who gave me thorough copy-edits, and every friend who read drafts or listened to me rant about COVID-19.
Feel free to spread it far and wide! And hit me up if you're interested in printing &/or distributing free copies :D
Read WHY WE MASK with Endnotes - includes working URLS so you can read the scientific papers I cited for yourself. Plus links for all the other resources, and a full transcript.

Due to the current state of the world, whether it be the protests or the pandemic, I encourage everyone who sees this post to check out an anime called Carole and Tuesday. Even you aren't a fan of anime, this show in particular has an amazing message that is even more relevant now than when it released. Or, if you simply don't have the time to watch it go on YouTube and look at the song called 'Mother' from the show. It's aged like a fine wine in my opinion.
Let's be honest, Corona is scary. But I believe we'll get through this. We, the world, have seen worse and conquered through. So it'll be okay. If you don't believe me, follow these instructions. Close your eyes, take slow breaths in and out, say "I'm strong, I'm powerful, I'm brave, and we'll get through this". Stay save out there and stay calm!
So apparently in my part of Texas there will be a full lockdown where you can only go out if certified for work or getting groceries. It's official, Plague Inc has become reality. Thanks Corona! 😑
I don't know how tf this happened but I suddenly have the overwhelming urge to go to school.
People. Are. Dying. PLEASE REBLOG! And donate if you can!
Look, I know a good number of you are from the US and things aren't amazing there either, but my country is literally on the brink of collapse. So I'd love it if we could talk about that for a minute.
If you can't do anything else, please just read and reblog.
A second COVID wave has taken out the healthcare system. There are no more hospital beds. There's an oxygen shortage. There's a critical vaccine shortage. The Central Government has thrown its hands up and is passing the baton to the State Governments to do what they can.
There are over 16 million covid cases. A record 330,000 new cases reported yesterday - comparable to the US at its peak. 187,000 dead as of today.
There is no plan.
Mass cremations are taking place. The cremation grounds are running day and night and they are short on wood. People are watching their loved ones die while waiting for a hospital bed, and then they're unable to give them the proper burial rights.
Hospitals are overwhelmed. Patients are being confined, two to a bed. They're the lucky ones.
We are on the verge of people dying in the streets.
This is the second-most populous country in the world. The largest democracy. A country that encapsulates over 15,000 years of recorded human history and has endured everything from famine to invasion to colonisation.
We might be at the end. This might be the thing that does us in.
People are dying.
People are dying.
People are dying and there is no plan.
More good news? Variants are popping up. A double mutation strain has shown up. It is resistant to current vaccines. This will not go away. This is the devastation they warned of when the anti-maskers were out protesting the minor inconvenience of covering their face in public.
My country is on the verge of an emergency state. Our government has failed us. This is as dire a situation as it ever could be.
Look. I don't do much with my life. I write fics, some of you have read them and that's pretty much it. I spend my days with my head in the clouds because that's where I like to be.
But two days ago, my grandmother tested positive, had to be taken to hospital and the ambulance caught fire.
She barely made it to the urgent care she needs.
So, here I am, using whatever meager platform I have to cobble this request together. Because I have to do something.
If you can, donate.
Or spread the word.
Help. Please.
I made this to encourage people to get the COVID-19 vaccine if they are able!! #covidvacccine #covid_19 #artistsoninstagram #digitalart #tangerine https://www.instagram.com/p/CRXndSGnLDM/?utm_medium=tumblr
COVID is slowly becoming a “third world” disease. While first world countries are hoarding vaccines, having doses for populations many times their size, third world countries can’t get any because pharma companies want to sell to the first world countries first. Even then, first world countries will receive them first. While rich countries recover from COVID, they will forget about the pandemic while many other countries live the absolute worst moment of the pandemic without being able to vaccinate their population.
You know, people call me paranoid for masking with every patient, but I can't tell you how many times I've had nurses come up to me to tell me my transfer patient has covid AFTER I already got them on my stretcher.
Wearing any type of face covering, even if it’s just a bandana, is vitally important to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Please wear a mask. I would highly recommend reading this paper on the efficiency and potential effectiveness of cloth masks. I’ve copied the conclusion down below, but I urge you to read the article for yourself; please never accept something just because you saw it in a tumblr post (or any social media post).
“In conclusion, we have measured the filtration efficiencies of various commonly available fabrics for use as cloth masks in filtering particles in the significant (for aerosol-based virus transmission) size range of ∼10 nm to ∼6 μm and have presented filtration efficiency data as a function of aerosol particle size. We find that cotton, natural silk, and chiffon can provide good protection, typically above 50% in the entire 10 nm to 6.0 μm range, provided they have a tight weave. Higher threads per inch cotton with tighter weaves resulted in better filtration efficiencies. For instance, a 600 TPI cotton sheet can provide average filtration efficiencies of 79 ± 23% (in the 10 nm to 300 nm range) and 98.4 ± 0.2% (in the 300 nm to 6 μm range). A cotton quilt with batting provides 96 ± 2% (10 nm to 300 nm) and 96.1 ± 0.3% (300 nm to 6 μm). Likely the highly tangled fibrous nature of the batting aids in the superior performance at small particle sizes. Materials such as silk and chiffon are particularly effective (considering their sheerness) at excluding particles in the nanoscale regime (<∼100 nm), likely due to electrostatic effects that result in charge transfer with nanoscale aerosol particles. A four-layer silk (used, for instance, as a scarf) was surprisingly effective with an average efficiency of >85% across the 10 nm −6 μm particle size range. As a result, we found that hybrid combinations of cloths such as high threads-per-inch cotton along with silk, chiffon, or flannel can provide broad filtration coverage across both the nanoscale (<300 nm) and micron scale (300 nm to 6 μm) range, likely due to the combined effects of electrostatic and physical filtering. Finally, it is important to note that openings and gaps (such as those between the mask edge and the facial contours) can degrade the performance. Our findings indicate that leakages around the mask area can degrade efficiencies by ∼50% or more, pointing out the importance of “fit”. Opportunities for future studies include cloth mask design for better “fit” and the role of factors such as humidity (arising from exhalation) and the role of repeated use and washing of cloth masks. In summary, we find that the use of cloth masks can potentially provide significant protection against the transmission of particles in the aerosol size range.”

Of course, a simple cloth mask is nowhere near as effective as a respiratory mask such as N95 masks, and neither even touches the effectiveness of a full-body protective suit, but (a) not everyone has access to a fully-body protective suit or even to an N95 mask and (b) any face covering is better than no face covering. So if all you have to cover your face is a bandana, please cover your face with a bandana. If you have access to higher-quality cloth masks, utilize higher-quality cloth masks. If you have access to N95 masks, wear an N95 mask. Do as much as you can to keep the virus from spreading.
(Also please note the significantly higher risk if your mask does not fit; obviously this risk would be higher with bandanas, which are not typically made to fit snugly to the contours of one’s face. Still, bandanas are better than nothing.)
Stay safe! <3
I feel this could have been designed better.
I don’t really get tumblr, but I’m about ready to tear my damn hair outta boredom, really need something to do with my fingers and this, has still got more appeal to it than my long reading list and huge pile of assignments, that I can’t bring myself to even look at.
So, college kicked us out about three days ago, the Covid-19 outbreak is forcing the Government to close down everything, my Sunday entrance exam just got postponed, and they’ll probably be having a public curfew that day. I read today, that the last pandemic was the ‘Spanish flu’, it killed about 50 million people after the end of the first world war in 1918, more than a century ago, but it wasn’t this widespread...
Apparently its too contagious, and anyway, its a bit understandable, it is difficult for humans to live without contact, but what I don’t get is why the hell are people still travelling?, like seriously ”Oh yeah ! its a global pandemic, I hear its great for vacation” they’re finding British tourists that are tested positive in Kerala.
At home, you can feel the trepidation, the worry, the fear that an uncertain future brings but things still hold normalcy, its still home except for a few laws- ‘no friends‘ ‘wash hands more often‘ ‘be good, stay home‘ ‘and for god’s sake take a shower.’ All we want is the time to pass, and this shit storm to get over with, but fact remains that we’re barely at the first stages of this crisis.
What would living in the middle of world wars must’ve felt like, what would’ve Anne Frank felt like hiding in Amsterdam, hiding to survive? We’re not having aerial bombings and no genocidal maniac is killing people, so its a gross comparison but we’re hiding and isolating ourselves to stay safe as well.
Not thinking much about it helps.....
Visited my old elementary school, it was kinda surreal
I just want to point out that yes, you should stick to paracetamol if you can.
But if you are currently taking ibuprofen, check with your doctor before stopping it, if it's for a reason unrelated to the Covid-19. Basically you shouldn’t self medicate anti-inflammatory drugs if you get the disease, this should be your main takeaway from this.
I’m no doctor, but here’s a BBC article that states that : “Prof Parastou Donyai at the University of Reading says: "There are many studies that suggest ibuprofen use during a respiratory infection can result in worsening of the disease or other complications." But, she says, "I have not seen any scientific evidence that clearly shows a totally healthy 25 year old taking ibuprofen for symptoms of COVID-19 is putting themselves at additional risk of complications."“ (https://www.bbc.com/news/51929628 ) Here’s a fact checking site saying the same thing :”https://www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-paracetamol-is-recommended-for-coronavirus“ and also busting some myths/false stories that have been floating around. here’s a third source just to make sure : https://www.france24.com/fr/20200317-coronavirus-pas-d-ibuprof%C3%A8ne-en-autom%C3%A9dication-recommande-l-oms (this is french news and a very legit website) Also The Guardian is not being misleading here, but I want to point out that this is “it may” as in “we don’t know yet, we don’t have enough evidence”.

Not now, Satan
Reminder for today:
You should go out.
You should see the world.
Destiel Putin Covid, you were named after the most memorable events that happened in 2020.
Well first case, don’t know what classes their in. Least it’s the end of the month and if they were in one of my classes 70 bucks wasn’t waisted on a bus pass.
