What made you decide to call your characters "Enhanced" instead of something like "superpowered" or "mages" or something else?

Oooooh love this question!

I knew I didn’t what to drift too far into high fantasy from the real world because I specifically wanted to have this story be more in the realistic side, which crosses of ‘mage’s’ and anything adjacent for me bc that feels like a staple of fantasy worlds

And ‘superpowers’ just feels…. overused, I guess? And it implies that it’s something supernatural (at least to me)

And in this, it isn’t! It’s more of like a… genetic anomaly thingy????? Longer lore post at it is coming soon

So I wanted something with less of a fantastical or overused connotation, I wanted something to make this story stand out

Destroyer is a sci-fi story about a telekinetic living weapon called Δ-107, or Delta for short, who is controlled by an evil space empire. The story takes place immediately following the death of the old Emperor and explores the ensuing succession crisis. Charlie had a relatively good relationship with her mom, until she was kidnapped and later escaped only to find out that her parents were already dead. She doesn’t believe that it was an accident.

Anya is probably my favorite answer to this question!!! Her parents died in a car crash when she was 12. She was catapulted into the foster system for a few months, before finally landing with the Henare family—a pair of Polynesian immigrants and their only son, Kai. She lived with them for a while, and eventually? They adopted her. Anya is very, very close with her adopted mother, and is so grateful for her little family.
