Artemis’s Wand

This is a drawing of Artemis’s Wand from my Harry Potter&Artemis Fowl crossover fanfic. It is Hawthorn Wood and Dragon Core.

Also, again for the ask thing: since I love how you write Artemis, do you have other inspirations for him outside Colfer's books? Like, music, or other characters in books or series, that helps you "channeling" him :3

To be honest I’ve never really thought about it that way ; Artemis is just a character that I’ve thoroughly obsessed over for almost a decade now :’) so the child is kinda part of my dna now ^^"

But my interpretation of him is probably very influenced by mtv series Daria. This show has been my absolute favourite forever ! My mum had all 5 seasons and 2 feature films on DVDs, and I watched them on loop absolutely everyday, I knew all the dialogues by heart and Daria and Jane were my spirit animals.

I really recommend all of the Fowldom to check this series out ; the main character Daria is extremely intelligent, witty and cynical, she is a great source of inspiration for me in writing Artemis ^^ and also the show is just absolutely great and so freaking funny. (also worth mentioning that I’ve always headcanoned that Juliet had an early teen phase where she was a lot like Quinn ; when I write Artemis and Juliet I’m always inspired by Daria and Quinn ^^)

Another big inspiration, though more recent, is definitely Aurora. She is my absolute beloved, my Stendhal syndrome, her music is everything to me ; and since I am a maniac and cannot be trusted not to combine all my hyperfixations, I’ve always felt like Aurora is very much a “what Artemis could have been", had he had a shot at freedom in his childhood. A lot of her songs (All My Demons, In Bottles, It Happened Quiet, Conflict of the Mind, My Body is Not Mine, Invisible Wounds…) I strongly, strongly associate with Artemis - my interpretation of him at least.

That’s what the key thing must be, though. I think over the years, I’ve really crafted an interpretation of Artemis that really feels like my own. I see him as an initially extremely empathetic, emotionally acute person ; who was broken by his father’s neglectful and abusive parenting, and forced to learn to silence his feelings in the name of Family and Business - and his journey is all about reconnecting with his emotions. I know it’s not that far out there of a take, there are a lot of hints in the books that can point this direction ; but this notion that within Artemis there is a permanent thunderstorm of emotions and deeply embedded guilt, a desire to prove himself worthy of love and respect, is really my main guideline when I write him :)

Another ask, and this one is pretty specific :3 Who is gonna help Artemis chose the clothes for the heist not-Fairy-Thief-heist? Or he will do that himself? Because TOD presents him already into the heist, but wouldn't it be funny to see him planning one AND having decide how to dress/somebody helping him to? Early 2000s fashion was... something XD

Well, since he’s not exactly on speaking terms with Juliet after Artemis Experiments Weird, he can’t ask for her input and she is the only one that could have actively helped him there. So instead, he does "a ton of research" (aka he watched Mean Girls on 2x speed and took screenshots and notes) and then raids Angeline's and Juliet’s closets to compose an outfit that seems fitting ^^"

I want the heist scene in Pareidolia Agent to really be a parallel to TOD, so the plan is that the scene starts in media res like in the book :)

Sooo ask about "Artemis Experiments Weird": is there any chance we'll see more of Selene? :3 her fate saddened me more that that of the other character... sorry for beating around the bush, I don't know how comfortable you'd be with such spoiler straight in the ask. You know what I mean, anyway :3

Thank you for the ask !! Yes if possible I’d rather that this particular spoiler you’re referring to is kept secret ^^ As for Selene, yes you will see a lot more of her ! What the epilogue hints at is that even though Artemis wiped everyone’s memories of everything (including her), he still told her “but I will not forget you”. So Selene has lost her corporeal form, but she keeps on existing as a memory in Artemis’ mind, and can talk with him like an annoying inner voice (fitting for his self-proclaimed conscience ^^). When Pareidolia Agent takes place, it’s been at least a year since they’ve coexisted like this, and they have started experimenting on whether Selene can interact with the world outside of Artemis’ mind… and it turns out she can ! It costs both of them a tremendous mental effort, but Selene still has some access to the Wired, and can remotely access computing systems and simple mechanisms… even, but it’s even more exerting for them both, do some form of “astral projection” and glitch her way out for a few moments, on a very short distance.

Now, will Selene be forever stuck as a ghost, chained to Artemis’ psyche, or will they find a way to truly bring her back - and in the meantime, how does everybody else feels about Artemis seemingly arguing with himself and somehow suddenly manifesting telekinetic powers… We shall see ;) Thank you SO much for this ask @laeliana !!! 'Artemis Experiments Weird', definitely ! Easy because I have like, two online right now lmao x') But I am quite happy with it even though I'd like to fine-tune it and tweak some lil things here and there ! :) ❌ What's a trope you will never write? not me trying to find a list of fanfic tropes because I actually don't know any heh... 😅 What's a story or scene you've created that you're a smidge embarrassed exists? The most embarrassing ones from my youth have thankfully been deleted and vaporised from existence 😅 In 'Artemis Experiments Weird' there are a few things that I'd like to tweak - to name the biggest ones : some aspects of Selene and Artemis' early interactions, the progression of the Wired's hold on Artemis' psyche, and the big fight between the two Artemises. But like said, it's more like tweaking some stuff to improve it rather than me being embarrassed - when I'm embarrassed I just delete or never publish the thing 🙃

😬 Which of your fics would you be most horrified for friends, family, or coworkers to stumble upon?

Of the available ones, none, to be honest ! On the opposite, I'd love for more of my friends to be AF fans and fluent enough in English to read my fics 😅 I wanna talk more about Artemis Fowl irl !!! Right now the only one I can pester with it is my poor husband and while he loves AF as well the poor man deserves a break 😅

Minerva, Minerva... The Minerva of my dreams is vastly different from the canon one. I always thought she would be a much more interesting foil to Artemis if she came from a different sociocultural background - what if the rich Irish boy faced a poor French girl from the Seine-Saint-Denis suburbs ? I think it would give her a different kind of grit, and also her motives for turning to crime wouldn't just be a Nobel Prize, but just... financial stability. For her and her family. I could develop more but I want to keep some surprises for my next fics :3 As for my darling Angeline, oh my. I tried to come up with a top 3 to keep myself in check ^^" 1) She's a fierce redhead 🔥 2) She had a musical career as the lead pianist of the jazz quartet The Silky Silfaka Lemurs 🐵 After she had Artemis she stopped playing in the band but she kept composing music. 3) Her favorite beverage is jasmine tea 🌸

Always !! Lately, I've been listening a lot to Prokofiev's Death of Juliet. Most infuriating piece of music ever -- the melody is drop dead gorgeous, but only last for about ten seconds 😭 I need someone to whip up an extended version of that theme !! 🤯 What's a genre you struggle with as a writer (ex. romance, action, etc.)?

Comedy ! It's so hard to pull off !

I always outline, so I'm very interested how you do it! 😊

I always outline too ! I generally have a "center of operations" libreoffice document where I put the pitch, summary, disclaimers, chapters outline, inspirations and also plotlines, characters development etc :) And a separate doc for each chapter :)

Again for the fanfiction ask thing, what is the Fragments about? :3

Fragments of Artemis Fowl is the fic I'm currently working on ! It's technically taking place right after Artemis Experiments Weird, but should be readable as a solo fic. The idea : Foaly is on a sick leave from the LEP and he's bored. So he decides to grab the (illegal) copies of Artemis, Butler, Juliet and the Fowl parents' memories he has saved from the mindwipe, and explore them to figure out how Artemis Fowl became, well, Artemis Fowl 😊 So it's a non-linear collection of one-shots exploring memories of Artemis' childhood, his parents' backstory, with Foaly's (and later Holly's) take and interpretation on the whole thing ! So far I have planned 90 chapters, crafted a timeline going back to the XIXth century, two excel docs of characters (the Fowl Manor isn't gonna staff itself ! and all the other prominent crime lords around the world !!), it's so much work but 👏 I'M 👏 HAVING 👏 A 👏 BLAST 👏 I had also made an entire doc with all the miscellaneous Fowl and fairies lore and anecdotes I could find while re-reading the books, but this one got lost in my last computer crash 🫠 So I have to remake it from scratch at some point. Anywoo, this one is still a long way to go before it can be published, but I literally started to think about this fic when I was a wee twelve-years-old baby so I'm not gonna give it up and I'm so proud to see how far it's come already 💜

for the ask game, oiseaux moqueurs!

This one is a revamp of a very very old unfinished fic, originally titled "Les oiseaux moqueurs ne chantent pas en hiver" (mockingbirds don't sing in the winter) The initial idea was following Adult!Artemis who grew up to absolutely hate and despise his father, but has to collaborate with him after Angeline has mysteriously disappeared. One even earlier version was Artemis having to investigate his father's murder instead x') This one is my WIPs but I'm not sure it will end up happening, it might instead merge with the plot of my Experiments Weird trilogy

Wee, it took me some time to find it but I'm really happy with it 😃 It's the sequel to Artemis Experiments Weird 😉 In which you will find, among many other things : - the Fairy Thief heist remastered in France, with Artemis posing as a teenage... girl (because he is my non-binary icon) - a human cult who uses the Wired through singing 🎶 - Root hugging Holly 🥰 - my take on a Banshee 👻 - Tim collaborating with the gang 👀 - Juliet being one of the main characters 💚
