That time was so right
Marigold likes to think she’s a good dog. No, scratch that. She knows she’s a great dog. Despite her previous “owners” not sharing the sentiment, she knows that her family does. Chris constantly tells her how good she is, Eddie always smiles fondly at her when he compliments her, and don’t even get her started on Buck. The guy is practically head over tail about her. Well, her and Eddie. But in different ways.
Her point is, she knows that she’s more than just a pretty face. She’s smart and kind and everything a human would need in a canine companion. She’s a catch. And for a while she doubted it. But that changed when Buck came along.
(Or: a look into our favorite golden retriever’s POV, from the moment she met her new family, to new moments shared with them)
Add some color to the world, my miracle
Buck looks over and nods his head, starting to stand up when Charlie starts to stir. He gently rocks her, trying to keep her from waking up. She settles back quickly, and he turns around to grab her bunny when he notices the look on Eddie’s face.
Baby fever is something they’ve both been dealing with lately. It’s led to them making out at the firehouse more than once and looking up names when they can’t sleep. The urge to have another kid has been getting stronger and stronger, and they basically have to sprint away from the baby clothes section at the department store. Karen was the first one to notice what was going on.
(Or: Eddie and Buck have baby fever, and Charlie was the one that got the idea into their heads)
You lay your bets and then you pay the price
“He knows he shouldn’t jump to conclusions. That he shouldn’t assume what other people are thinking and feeling. That he shouldn’t catastrophize.
Then again, Buck has never done anything quite as reckless as kissing his best friend. Buck has never made such a thoughtless decision as risking one of the best things he’s ever had in his life. Buck has never done anything that could lead to one of the things he fears the most becoming a reality.
Because the split second that it took for Buck to panic, he realized that he basically clicked the button to blow up his whole life.”
(Or: a kiss happens, spiraling ensues, but they still get their happily ever after)
Lo que más quiero en este mundo
Eddie suddenly feels a tiny hand on his right cheek and tries to hide the smile that’s threatening to appear on his face.
“Daddy, wake up.”
A tiny voice whispers. Well, it’s not quite a whisper but he guesses that what it was meant to be. He pretends to let out a snore and he gets a giggle in response.
“Daddy!”
Eddie finally opens his eyes and locks his gaze on a pair of blue eyes.
“Good morning, mi estrella.”
(Or: take a peak at the Buckley-Diaz’s morning, filled with soft moments and Buddie being the best dads in the whole world to Chris and Charlie)
My heart will lead me there soon
Eddie came out around six months ago, and Chris has been trying to encourage Eddie to embrace it more. One time, he grabbed a pack of rainbow napkins at the supermarket and unceremoniously dropped it into the shopping cart. He also chose ‘Out’ on movie night, which made both Buck and Eddie cry (Chris just watched them with a raised eyebrow before giving both of them a tight hug). In any case, it’s all been… good. He means it.
It’s just… there’s a capital ‘T’ Thorn that’s prickling Buck’s heart and is making it slowly bleed out.
Or: ceramics, fish, and names that start with a T. Add two pining idiots into the mix and the plot thickens.
Or or: Buck is pining for his best friend and copes with a new hobby. Who knew fish would bring them together?
We’re lost in your light
“She’s up for adoption… if you’re interested.”
He knows they are just being polite because he’s 99.9% sure they already know what his answer’s gonna be. So, he just turns back around to look at Marigold and, without thinking twice or even stuttering, he asks:
“Where do I sign?”
(Or: Buck becomes a dog dad, and we follow two golden retrievers throughout this long fic while they experience love.)
Do you love me, baby?
It was his wedding day. He never really thought he’d ever be able to say that, but here he is now.
(Or: wedding bells are ringing around, but a runaway groom chases after his real future)
I’m floating through the ceiling
There’s just one thought that Eddie’s mind is repeating over and over again and it starts with the letter B. And he thinks that this might be the best day of his life.
Or: weddings are the perfect occasion to confess your feelings to your best friend, so take the leap and do it.
There’s diamonds in your eyes
Eddie feels his breathing stutter. He doesn’t know what he was expecting. They were at a wedding, of course this was a formal event. Formal attire was required. And still… Eddie just kind of forgot that applied to everyone. Or just to one person in particular.
Or: Eddie sees Buck in a suit, his brain short circuits, and he’s soft for however many words this is.
Easy like Sunday morning
Eddie has never been a morning person. But he wants to become a morning person if it means he gets to have this every morning for the rest of his life.
Or: Eddie is soft in the morning and he loves Buck with every atom of his being.
I’m about to lose my worried mind
“Human’s are complicated, they do things dogs can’t understand, like leave…”
And he just bawls his eyes out.
Or: Buck watches a movie, breaks down, and gets a hug.
