          “   well  ,  if  it  makes  you  feel  better  ,  all  the  best  people  are  crazy   ——   i'm  pretty  sure  i've  heard  that  somewhere  .   ”   camille  believes  everyone  has  a  little  crazy  in  them  anyways  ,  it's  what  makes  life  so  much  fun  and  interesting  .   “   right  ,  of  course  you  are  one  of  those  people  that  read  zodiac  horoscope  ,   ”   she  laughs  .   “   i  would  be  lying  to  say  i've  never  done  it  ,  but  it's  a  little  bit  tricky  ,  don't  you  think  ?  once  you  read  the  horoscope  ,  you  might  want  to  believe  it  ,  so  even  if  it  doesn't  happen  the  way  it's  supposed  to  be  ,  you'd  find  a  reason  behind  it  ,  which  is  why  in  the  end  they  all  make  total  sense  .  that's  just  how  it  works  ,  i  think  .  it's  not  like  they're  real  .  we're  the  ones  who  make  them  real  ,  you  know  ?   ”

" well when ya' put it like that, i definitely sound crazy, " van chuckled, rolling her eyes at herself. suddenly fortune-telling was the tamest thing she could do in new york city . . . but what could she say ? she had her fears, and there was always something super off-putting about an old lady and her crystal ball. " maybe it's a business . . . but you don't think they're even a tad bit real ? never read your zodiac horoscope and thought, well, damn, that makes total sense ? "

          “   i  mean  ,  of  course  not  .  i  couldn't  even  imagine  the  second  -  hand  embarrassment  ,  but  then  again  you're  probably  right  .  you  wouldn't  let  that  happen  if  it  was  somebody  you  know  .   ”   camille  knows  she  would  have  done  the  same  if  she  was  in  teagan's  shoes  .   “   did  you  at  least  try  to  stop  them  though  ?  i  just  know  i  would  ,  even  if  it's  none  of  my  business  .  either  way  ,  what's  done  is  done  .  i  bet  people  would  forget  about  it  the  next  day   ——   unless  somebody  got  it  on  camera  ,  then  they  would  just  have  to  live  with  it  for  the  rest  of  their  life  ,  sober  or  not  .   ”

          “  i  don’t  .  thank  god  .  could  you  imagine  ?  ”  teagan  responds  with  a  light  chuckle  .  it  really  could  be  worse  ,  the  balloon  stabber  could’ve  turned  out  to  be  her  sister  .  paige  is  known  to  be  dramatic  after  all  .  a  stark  contrast  between  the  two  yoon  sisters  .  “  then  again  ,  if  it  were  someone  i  knew  then  that  definitely  wouldn’t  be  happening  in  the  first  place  .  but  you’re  right  some  people  just  aren’t  the  brightest  so  we  should  be  managing  expectations  .  ”  probably  explains  why  teagan  is  so  selective  with  who  she  lets  into  her  inner  circle  .  “  super  drunk  or  high  i  get  .  i’m  sure  we’ve  all  done  some  questionable  things  .  but  sober  ?  now  that  was  a  conscious  decision  .  i  need  them  to  live  with  it  .  ”

          “   first  of  all  ,  you're  so  dramatic  .  being  on  a  ferris  wheel  won't  kill  you  ,  babe  .   ”   there  is  always  a  possibility  of  course   ——   camille  decides  to  keep  that  to  herself  ,  not  wanting  to  scare  yejin  any  more  now  .   “   but  sure  ,  you  can  totally  blame  it  all  on  me  if  anything  goes  wrong  .  second  of  all  ,  if  this  is  what  it  takes  to  hold  your  hand  ,  i'll  take  the  chance  .  and  you  can  yell  as  much  as  you  want  to  ,  if  that  helps  .  i  wouldn't  mind  as  long  as  you're  still  coming  with  me  .   ”   with  that  being  said  ,  she  inches  closer  and  links  her  arm  with  yejin's  ,  as  if  to  prevent  her  from  running  away  now  that  she's  agreed  to  ride  the  ferris  wheel  together  .   “   it's  already  too  late  to  back  out  anyways  .  it's  almost  our  turn  ,   ”   camille  beams  excitedly  .

"well, when you put it that way. you know the way, where i can blame it on you if anything goes wrong then i can't say no." yejin teases. "and especially if this a ploy to hold my hand, then i'll have you know, this may not make it worth it because, i could yell! it could be terrible for me and i'd be more sorry for you having to experience that. like, you might regret it, because i also might regret going on that thing. but since you are so certain it's not that bad. then, let's go on this dumb ride that might kill me."

         “   i  mean  ,  of  course  ,  you  can't  just  show  up  to  a  fucking  carnival  and  not  attempt  one  of  those  games  .  and  sure  ,  maybe  it's  all  a  scam  ,  but  i  could  care  less  about  that  if  there's  a  chance  i  could  bring  a  life  -  sized  teddy  bear  home  ,  even  if  it's  like  by  0.1  percent  .   ”   now  camille  knows  she  has  more  than  enough  to  afford  one  (  hell  ,  she  could  even  afford  more  than  one  if  she  wants  to  )  but  where's  the  fun  in  that  ?   “   usually  i  just  go  for  the  one  with  the  best  grand  prize  and  call  it  a  day  ,  although  i  wouldn't  be  opposed  to  trying  them  all  just  for  fun  .  either  way  i'm  getting  that  giant  teddy  bear  .   ”

          “  are  you  gonna  attempt  any  of  the  carnival  games  ?  or  do  you  think  it’s  all  a  scam  so  there’s  no  point  in  trying  to  win  a  prize  ?  because  i’m  pretty  sure  there’s  a  trick  to  winning  all  of  them  .  ”

          “   nothing's  wrong  with  being  a  little  crazy  sometimes  ,  but  seeing  a  fortune  teller  is  probably  like  the  least  crazy  thing  you  can  do  around  here  .  i  mean  ,  what's  the  worst  that  could  happen  ?  it's  not  like  the  predictions  are  real  .   ”   camille  truly  doesn't  believe  in  the  whole  being  able  to  look  into  the  future  kinda  thing  and  it  shows  .   “   you  should  still  give  it  a  try  though  .  i'd  say  you  shouldn't  trust  them  one  hundred  percent  ,  but  if  you're  into  that  sort  of  thing  ,  you  do  you  .  after  all  someone's  gotta  believe  them  ,  am  i  right  ?  that's  how  they  keep  the  business  going  .   ”

stood at the edge of the valentine's day carnival, van couldn't help feeling drawn to the flickering glow and velvety, starry pattern of the fortune teller's tent. she sighed, a mix of curiosity and apprehension as she turned to the person nearby. " y'know, back in texas, we've got our fair share of superstitions — and mixin' fate with fortune-telling feels like playin' with fire, " she drawled, southern accent adding a touch of warmth to her tone. " but i'd be lying if i said i'm not a little curious. am i crazy for thinkin' about goin' inside and lettin' those cards have a say ? or is that just askin' for bad luck ? " in her eyes, it was like telling someone your wish after blowing out the candles on a birthday cake . . . if you said it or heard it out loud, it was never going to come true. but how could she not feel some allure ? she was known to be a romanticist, after all.

          camille  gives  the  girl  an  eye  roll  ,  albeit  playfully  .   “   oh  ,  come  on  .  it'll  be  fun  ,  i  promise  .  well  ,  yeah  ,  it  does  look  kinda  scary  for  the  first  time  but  once  you're  up  there  ?  you'll  forget  all  about  it  .  at  least  you're  coming  with  me  and  i've  been  on  a  ferris  wheel  a  ton  of  times   ——   trust  me  ,  you're  gonna  love  it  .   ”   this  time  she  offers  yejin  a  reassuring  smile  .   “   we  can  hold  hands  if  you  get  scared  .  i'll  keep  you  safe  ,  okay  ?   ”

"i'm like not scared of heights i swear. i've just never been on a ferris wheel and so, i don't know if i'm scared yet. like, will i regret it? will i yell? will you regret coming with me? probably, but who knows! not me, not yet, at least. but that's fun right?" yejin looks up at the wheel and it's massive size and height, biting her lip, a bit scared just from looking at it.           “   well  ,  i  guess  some  people  are  just  not  the  brightest  bulb  in  the  box  ,   ”   camille  muses  ,  more  to  herself  than  to  teagan  .   “   i  mean  ,  i've  done  some  pretty  dumb  shit  too  before  ,  but  stabbing  a  heart  -  shaped  balloon  with  a  spoon  is  definitely  not  of  one  of  them  .  why  not  just  step  on  the  fucking  balloon  if  they  don't  have  a  fork  ?  like  what  are  they  even  trying  to  achieve  at  this  point  ?  unless  they're  like  super  drunk  or  high  ,  i'd  say  it's  pretty  embarrassing  to  be  caught  doing  that  shit  sober  .  do  you  even  know  them  though  ?  i  hope  not  .   ”
