@dexter morgan you are not a sociopath you are just bi and autistic
Happy birthday, Harry Morgan (1915 - 2011), M*A*S*H (and AfterMASH’s) Colonel Sherman T. Potter
Don't read if you haven't finished watching Dexter and Dexter New Blood.
I'm gonna ask opinions to people regarding Dexter's "companions" (like Harry is) throughout the shows so if you haven't finished them yet, you WILL encounter spoilers.
If you ignore the show's logic, which would make them hallucinations/Dexter's own conscience manifesting as them/Dark Passengers, what do you think Harry, Brian and Deb are?
Cause the original story was more supernatural than what they made the TV show to be so I was curious to know other people's own interpretation. Again, don't mind what the show intended, or what's logical cause of it but how YOU, personally, interpreted their portrayals.
Harry has been Dex's own conscience (seasons 1-4 roughly but I could remember wrong, correct me if so) mainly due to the fact that when he appeared it was always Dexter zoning out and talking with him inside his own mind.
While later (seasons 5-8) he was a ghostly guide of sorts. Specifically due to a line he said in 8x12 that went something like: "I never thought this day would come, the day that you wouldn't need me anymore" which I always interpreted as a ghost saying goodbye after having been kind of a guardian for a long time.
With Brian too it was both depending on the situation.
In his first appearance post-death in season 2 he had a small line of dialogue with Dexter that went something like: "You're still here" - "I never left" - "Yes, you did. I killed you." - "You just took my life." And I always saw that as a, and read it in between the lines, "You killed me but I wanted to stay so now my soul is bound to you" kind of thing.
Same in Nebraska, i perceived him as a ghost throughout the whole episode.
In some other occasions though it was clear it was Dexter hallucinating so back to my point, he was a mix.
With Deb it's actually easier. Since she was always somewhat kind toward Dexter (excluding when she tried to kill both of them and her, very reasonable, crashout when she found out what he was) I hardly doubt her in New Blood to have been a ghost.
I'm fairly convinced she's always been Dexter's own conscience beating him up on it due to the fact that he was ridden by guilt for not having stopped Saxon in time and for having pulled the plug on her (even though she was already brain dead by then).
I just gotta rant about this cause everyone seems so pleased with Original Sin and how it came out...
The show per se wasn't bad at all, actually I even liked it but there were so many inconsistencies plot-wise that I could've happily ignored if it was a separate work or even an alternative universe, but not since it's supposed to be Dexter reminiscing his past at the end of New Blood.
Imma start off with a simple question: Where in FUCK'S name is Matthews?? Originally that man was at Deb's 16th or so birthday and you want me to believe that now that she's supposed to be 17 (which by the way I dont like since her birthday was december 7th of 1979, thing that would happily explain why Matthews is nowhere to be seen) he's not even shown as part of the police force??
Also, should I ignore the fact that Dex in episode one of the first show used the fishing noose or whatever it was like in the books to lead his victims to their death to then start using M99 at random? And in OG sin they make him find it out by the end of the season which woud completely threw off the plot of the pilot episode Dexter.
Dont even get me started on Brian as a charater and all cause what Xander and epecially Roby did was magical. They perfectly encapsulated Brian's essence as a charater and a person but what the fuck was his storyline even???
I could go on hours long rants about Brian's fluctuating age cause he and Dex weren't even a full year apart in the books and already in Dexter they had made it two to three (since they told us Brian was 6 when the Shipping Yard massacre happened but then they showed us his driver's licence were his birthday was set in 1968, which would've made him 5 but okay) AND NOW THEY PUSHED HIS BDAY EVEN FURTHER?!?! Like what do you mean 1966?? Do they want him to be a full blown teenager when his mother gets killed or what?
Also, have mercy on me but what is this psychopath propaganda they're trying to push on him? Oh yeah, he had morbid curiosity about some lizards and detached their tails for fun. He's definitely evil. Well, lemme break it to you: LIZARDS CAN SHED THEIR TAILS NATURALLY!! So that whole bullshit scene of Harry and Dexter making a funeral for the lizards made no damn sense unless Brian actively killed them somehow offscreen (or if I missed the scene in which he did) And even if he did, he was a poor curious child. Someone could've just gone "you dont do that cause it hurts the lizards" and he would've most likely stopped.
Still on the psycopath propaganda part, I'm tired as hell of hearing people say, and reading comments stating, Brian is a psychopath. I can assure you that if he'd really been a psychopath he wouldn't have cared so much about getting back to Dex. He also wouldn't have had his emotional moments either like when he snapped at Dex because "you cant be a killer and a hero..." in Dexter and his "so I can work at a radio shack for the rest of my life?!" to his therapist. I can go into even more detail about his death and all but that could easily be a separate post.
Back to OG Sin in general... Where did Spencer even come from in the storyline? And btw, was I the only one who clocked that mf in episode 2? I'm sure that the actor who played him did a fantastic job with him if I managed to notice so early on because lord was it obvious that there was something wrong with that man.
LaGuerta is even more insufferable than she already was in Dexter and that alone is saying tons.
What was that whole storyline with Sofia and shit? What was the purpose of it, and even better, if they hadn't been renewed for a new season how did they expect to explain where in hell she went since Deb never mentioned her (to my knowledge) in Dexter?
Also, please, and I promise this is the last thing, can they give Debra a normal relationship? Why does EVERY SINGLE GUY she gets with have to be a drug dealer a serial killer or an abusive entitled bitch? Can't she fall for a normal guy and have a normal relationship ending with a normal excuse like "he snored in his sleep and he didn't know how to do his laundry" or shit like that???
tl;dr: Where is Matthews? Introducing M99 like that seemed very stupid. Why do they hate Brian's story and character so bad? Where did Spencer come from? And I'm not even gonna bother with LaGuerta, Sofia and Deb.
I resonate with this so bad fr. Deb is always whining and complaining for stuff that is, in 90% of the cases, her own fault.
Sofia has no business in existing nor complaining to Dexter. And that whole stunt she pulled kissing the other guy to make Dex jealous as if he'd care? That was so stupid!
And don't get me started on Harry! I could write entire paragraphs on how much I can't stand that man and all he did and said. I've been calling him Victor Frankenstein for as long as I can remember. He created a, as he perceived, monster to then be completely repulsed by it and preferred suicide than dealing with it? Oh give me a break ffs
sofia pisses me off too like girl dexter is not ur bf he never was he clearly didn’t want u. and deb needa stfu too like why are you getting so mad at everything like this ho screams at them at LEAST 3 times an episode. and harry can go suck a fuck too he ruined brian AND dexters lives. laguerta is a cunt too. mostly everyone else is chill tho. brian and dexter are perfect angels tho they can do no wrong. ok rant over bye
Ah yes! the defining unit on deciding the mental issues of a person "vibes"
I like that one of the major plot points in Dexter is just that the police are a deeply flawed institution. So flawed that a cop can kidnap one child and condemn another to life in a mental hospital based on ‘vibes’.
