honestly one thing that confused me about toh is how hunter reacted to the revelation that he was a grimwalker. his initial reaction was realistic but later, he seems more worried about having his friends find out that he's a grimwalker than he was about.. BEING a grimwalker.

think about it. if you found out that you were a CLONE of someone else, made by your abusive uncle to fill a role, wouldn't you spiral into existential crisis? especially if you also have the information that there were a dozen other clones before you, and they were all MURDERED by your super awesome uncle?

just the idea of being a clone and being a replacement for someone else is impossible to wrap your head around. i can't imagine how i would feel if i was faced with such information. what other people would think of it would be the LEAST of my worries.

hunter however seems to readily accept the idea that he's a clone. the only time he seems to even think about caleb is during the montage in the first episode of s3 where he cuts his hair after getting a traumatic flashback. but even that is more connected to belos himself rather than the reality of being a grimwalker.

i understand that the series was cut short but i never understood why they put so much emphasis on how willow, gus and amity would react to the news of hunter being a grimwalker.

on one hand, sure, hunter is afraid of losing his new friends. it makes sense. it's his first time being truly accepted and loved by people, and he doesn't want to lose that.

but on the other hand, it seems like he came to terms with the whole grimwalker thing pretty quickly. he doesn't think of its implications, he doesn't take time to ruminate on it or come to terms with it, he just.. doesn't seem to care about it that much at all.

i feel like one of these things is a bit more important than the other.

i just feel like hunter's entire storyline had so much potential for some serious existential crisis and psychological horror even, but the creators barely scratched the surface.

(and again, i wouldn't be saying this if the creators hadn't chosen to focus on completely unnecessary characters and plotlines with the little runtime they had.)

You ever see a take so bad that it keeps you thinking about it for months after the fact.

Now that the Owl House has ended, I can’t wait to see people trying to be ‘not like everyone else’ and pretending they hate the show because it’s popular.

thinking about the owl house and how everything i hated about it was likely a direct result of 1. it being produced by disney and B. huntlow being canon (and yes i do think canon huntlow ruined a ton of stuff. i’m not exaggerating. it completely ruined hunter and willow’s characters for starters by taking their pre-existing cool personalities and changing them so the ship would fit a boring unseasoned girlboss x malewife dynamic. willow should’ve been aroace [she’d make more sense than lilith] and hunter should’ve ended up with one of the blight twins [id have preferred edric because the show didn’t have ANY decent canon mlm ships. and no, willow’s background gay dads and the implication of aladarius in the finale do NOT count. although i wouldn’t have complained if hunter had ended up with emira either] shipping is my special interest so like.. i get kinda aggressive about these things but also i think it gives me a bit of credibility on the topic. you can disagree but that’s just my opinion lol)

i remember at one point i made a list of stuff i hate about the show, and while i don’t have access to it anymore i remember that most of the stuff i listed was, in fact, very likely a result of those two factors.

like adding onto the anti huntlow thing, i think lumity also has problems for some of the same reasons huntlow does, albeit not as drastically. like it’s obvious that the creators decided on the ships BEFORE writing their character’s personalities which ended up working out in lumitys favour but NOT in huntlows. cause yeah, amity changed after getting with luz but it was sorta realistic? meanwhile after getting with willow, hunter fully stops being funny and loses his charm entirely. he was my favourite character until the Huntlow Personality Retcon happened. now i genuinely can’t stand him. if i wanted to see a boring m/f girlboss x malewife “bi4bi” (in quotations cause hunter never showed interest in the same gender at ANY point which leads me to believe that him being bi was an afterthought they threw in during season 3) fictional couple where the most interesting thing about it is the fact that it’s a gb/mw dynamic, i would simply watch a millie x moxxie compilation on youtube. and i don’t even like helluva boss. and i think that dynamic is overplayed.

like people always say “straight couples are boring” and they get hate for it but are they wrong??? when the majority of m/f couples in fiction are either “gender roles: the ship” or “reversed gender roles: the ship” it starts to get boring as hell. where’s the variety. like for example a straight ship i really enjoy is tim and sasha from the magnus archives, because they actually have personalities that compliment one another that aren’t just “he’s a simp and she’s strong!!1!” obviously we don’t get to learn a ton about them together, but that’s also a nice change. why do ships always have to be the main focus at the expense of a good story. and again: i’m saying this as someone whose SPECIAL INTEREST IS SHIPPING.

obviously there are worse ships than huntlow. i’m aware of that. but i also think i’m allowed to have and express my opinions. kay? cool.
