🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ GOOD Queer News For The TL: A Bunch Of Students Across The U.S. Are Using

Queer students deserve to feel safe at school! We're in our third year of giving grants to put the power in their hands to make their schools more welcoming - students know what they need most in their own communities and their own schools.

Through 50 States, 50 Grants, 5,000 Voices, we've awarded over $1.5 million in grants across the U.S. to support student-led projects. Our third season has some of the most badass projects yet, like these:

❤️ “With this grant, we’ll establish an LGBTQIA+ community space in the library, open to all students, with guest speakers, arts and crafts, LGBTQIA+ books and literature, and LGBTQIA+-specific resources.” - Pocatello, Idaho

🧡 “Our project aims to support LGBTQ+ students through teacher training, development of gender-neutral bathroom protocols, and the organization of a district-wide Queer Prom.” - Gypsum, Colorado

💛 “We’ll take students from the 3 middle schools and our local high school to Honolulu Pride to make local LGBTQ+ friends, feel accepted in a large group, and see the community beyond just school.” - Ewa Beach, Hawai'i

💚 “We’re going to increase access to queer literature by working with a local nonprofit to expand our school’s collection, host storytelling events, and foster community connection." - Mobile, Alabama

💙 “Our plan is to create new Inclusivity Zones across the state in critical areas for local GSA clubs to meet, plan shared events, and be their own safe space.” - Charleston, West Virginia

💜 “We’ll host the Rainbow Youth Summit for LGBTQIA+ youth from across southern California to network, learn, and have fun in a safe, judgement free and supportive environment.” - Cathedral City, California

These students are truly the definition of making things better - you can see the rest of the amazing projects lined up across the country on our blog here!

This is why it is so important to go out and vote. We can't have people like this in power who think it's ok to take away the rights of others, just because they're ignorant or appealing to their base.

If you live in Texas and it is possible for you, vote this November. We need Greg Abbott and Ken Paxton out of power.

I'm unable to vote due to my age, but I still want my rights as a trans teen to be protected.

Today the governor of Texas released an official statement directing Family and Protective Services to investigate families of transgender minors on allegations of child abuse (with the intention of separating trans children from their families). It includes a “duty to report”, directing those who know or suspect the existence of a trans child to report it.

This is not a law, nor is it technically actively enforceable. But it is an official statement by a governor that WILL cause real consequences. It also emerges from all of the OTHER anti-trans legislation in action.

30/50 U.S. states are currently proposing legislation against the existence of trans minors (or sometimes people up to 21 years old).

As a trans person who transitioned as a minor in one of these states, I’ve been fighting against these laws for years with little to no news coverage. I am begging for people to care about this. These laws prohibit access to gender-affirming care, accuse families of trans minors of child abuse, jail doctors, and prohibit trans people from playing in sports. Some of these laws have already passed. Some are going to.

Here is a thread of resources in regards to what is happening in Texas right now.

Here’s a thread of GoFundMes of Texas families of trans children who are trying to move out of the state.

Here is a website where you can track these anti-trans bills in the U.S., see what is happening in your state, and see what action you can take.

Stay safe. Protect and uplift trans youth.

When it is Radical to be Yourself

I feel as if people don't know that indentity can be radical

Not just with Civil Fights, but day to day life

I, myself, live in a world where it is radical to wake in the morning

But not many people know it

When I wake up, alive and living, anger flares in hundreds of people

When I eat,

sleep,

and breathe,

there are people who hate me

When I enjoy my life, people wish me death

I, however, have an easier life than others like this

But I still live in a world where it is radical to be myself

When it is Radical to be Yourself,

you live in a world where people hate your very being

You living is a polictal statement,

that you are here and they cannot get rid of you

As a Trans Youth living in the U.S.,

my very life is a polictal statement

To those who hate me,

who want me dead,

who write and fund legislature that could ruin me,

Me living is a political statement

And to this rest like me,

who live a life like this,

Stay Living

For Who You Are is Radical,

and they cannot change that

Every breathe you take,

is proof that you and your community is stronger than those who hate

hi you may want to read this if you live in the US and are a trans minor, supporting a trans minor, or are a teacher/school official for kids k-12.

soooo... from what i just read in horror on whitehouse.gov, it's essentially going to be illegal moving forward for teachers to support trans kids in any way, shape, or form.

it sounds like this includes school counselors assisting with students' transition with things like using their correct name and pronouns, or just counseling them through their transition at all. not sure if this means school officials will just be completely silenced on this matter or essentially be forced to .. force kids to de-transition or stay in the closet.

it sounds like any school official definitely will be forced to deadname and misgender trans youth in school, and face legal repercussions and/or lose their jobs if they don't

here's the excerpt i found about this in the executive order "ending radical indoctrination in k-12 schooling" on the official whitehouse site:

(note specifically part iii)

Hi You May Want To Read This If You Live In The US And Are A Trans Minor, Supporting A Trans Minor, Or

here is what they define as "social transition":

Hi You May Want To Read This If You Live In The US And Are A Trans Minor, Supporting A Trans Minor, Or

so yeah basically. i dont know. im terrified for our trans youth in america right now.

im in shock and not really able to give any advice right now other than if you are close with a trans youth please support them, check in on them, keep them safe.

remind them that life is worth living and there are people out there fighting for them. if anyone has any other insight or advice please feel free to add to the post.

and yeah just please stay safe out there bc shit is getting scary. to all my trans siblings of all ages i love you. please keep living, even if just to spite this nasty motherfucker.

GET KOSA TRENDING.

STOP SCROLLING NOW!

AS OF FEBRUARY 21ST, 2024, WE GOT FIVE DAYS UNTIL THE DAY OF DECISION OF THE KOSA BILL, WHICH WILL CAUSE MASS CENSORSHIP ROUND THE INTERNET IF PASSED. WE NEED EVERYONE TO KNOW ABOUT THIS AND CONTRIBUTE. I'M NOT GIVING UP ON YOU ALL.

(IMPORTANT UPDATE: Kosa will not necessarily pass on the 26th. It only has the support to pass in Senate, and we STILL HAVE TIME. That being said, time is of the essence.)

WE'RE DOWN TO THE WIRE BUT WE CAN'T GIVE UP YET. IF WE GIVE UP, EVERYTHING IS OVER. IF WE DON'T, AT LEAST WE HAVE A CHANCE.

I'M THE ONE WHO SOUNDED THE ALARM, AND I'M NOT GOING TO CURL UP AND DIE YET.

Reblog this post in every LEGAL way you can under the Tumblr guidelines with the appropriate tags. TELL AND TAG EVERYONE YOU KNOW, then add the tags to see below... and more if you can think of any complying.

Visit badinternetbills.com if you want to find a way to defeat KOSA. It WILL NOT take much of your time. Reblog with any other information or sources, too-- but make sure to reblog if you can.

Reblog if you support lgbtq+ content.

Reblog if you support questioning queer youth and/or abused youth getting the information they need.

Reblog if you support Ao3 and/or other sites that wholeheartedly preserve talentedly made media.

Reblog if you're going to repost this on other sites than Tumblr and spread the word across Twitter, Tik Tok, Pinterest, or elsewhere, alongside the link to badinternetbills.com.

Reblog if you think KOSA is unfair and shouldn't be anyone's problem -- including the adults ALL OVER THE DAMN EARTH forced to face the mass censorship it causes because "think of the American Children!".

Reblog if you support internet activism and Palestine.

Reblog if you hate fascism or censorship, and don't want actually serious and helpful conversations censored on the internet.

Reblog if you value the internet in any way at all whatsoever.

CHECK THIS PETITION, TOO! https://www.change.org/p/stop-the-kosa?recruiter=1331807538&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=sms&utm_campaign=psf_combo_share_initial&utm_term=psf&recruited_by_id=57368c40-d0fd-11ee-98f7-2175430f819f&share_bandit_exp=initial-36809664-en-US

(Also, please reblog with at least "stop kosa" as a tag and not "kosa". I made the mistake of not adding just "kosa" as a tag...)

We won't let this stand any longer. Let's start a riot and get this trending.
