"Who are you really? Lin Ling or Nice?" ⚠️❓
I love this, not only because nice bypasses whatever grips him towards cleanliness, when he's with Wreck he can accept himself falling into a different persona, and he is okey smearing Wreck with him by this persona... a becoming one when they are together kinda thing
To those saying that it’s okay to call To Be Hero X “anime” because the Chinese equivalent term “donghua” (动画) literally also means “animation” don’t get the point.
Would you call your English breakfast tea “chai” even though “chai” is just the Hindi word for tea? Or any bread “naan” even though naan also just means “bread”? Café au lait and café con leche both literally mean “coffee with milk” in their respective languages, but their traditional preparation method and taste is very different. There’s also American comics vs Filipino komiks.
But most of all, would you call your Japanese anime “cartoon” even though that’s the actual English word for animated shows?
You won’t.
So when you borrow a term from another language to describe one thing, you’re actually saying that that thing comes from a particular country or culture.
Calling To Be Hero X an “anime” is like saying it’s from Japan.
“Oh chill, Miya, it’s not that serious—” But it is.
It’s bad enough that a lot of people already think that the show is from Japan and don’t bother to watch it in the original audio, but it’s even worse when you see the sinophobic comments online about people’s resistance to the original version despite learning it is from China (insisting the jp dub is better even though they can’t understand Japanese).
Calling TBHX an anime would be acquiescing to the erasure of the Chinese background of the show and saying that it’s actually Japanese when it’s not. (And if you just pause for a second to think about it, that is such a fucked-up thing, considering what Japan did to China in WW2. But let’s not delve too deeply into that.)
“But some people call ATLA an anime even though it’s not from Japan—”
Yeah, but the USA-Japan relationship is very different from the Japan-China relationship. You cannot compare these two. I can go at length about the geopolitical implications, but to keep it simple, just think of it this way: Calling a donghua an anime would be similar to whitewashing.
But even without considering the “serious” context, TBHX animation isn’t even like that of a typical anime. Have you ever seen an anime that blends 3D and 2D animation so seamlessly and ambitiously like TBHX does?
3D animation is kinda a staple in donghua. There are so many great 3D donghua out there. Recently, the 3D donghua Nezha 2 even beat Inside Out and The Lion King for highest-grossing animated film of all time. And even before TBHX, there were already many other donghua that mix the 3D and 2D mediums (e.g. You Yao, No Doubt in Us, etc.).
So to say, TBHX animation style is distinctly Chinese. You cannot call it an anime.
i wonder if x is so different from everyone else in the hero industry is because he has 0 affiliation to any companies. i firmly believe this makes him have much more freedom than the rest, plus there's no manager on his ear yapping their gums out on this-and-that.
x's freedom is shown a lot of times in trailers, endings, and the opening by him being in his "citizen" persona – which we have seen no one have unlike him – a work life that is outside of his hero work that makes him have a separate identity as people there, possibly, only knows him as the 'chill guy who takes all the sugar in the office' than the cool omnipotent hero x.
that doesn't make him obviously free from his responsibilities. he has two jobs where one he can slip away when it's dusk, and the other one he has to work for almost 24/7 that has no time in or out unlike the office job he has. of course, there's other heroes but he's top 1. expectations still weigh on him.
he's enigmatic because no one owns him. think of him like an indie artist with no label company and with the freedom to do anything except they're also stuck in the same system with how the work can take over their lives and the audience views them.
i speak on this in my opinion and belief, how x does every move it's like art itself.
I literally can't stop giggling seeing this. They know
IDK if that'll stop Li Haolin lol
Gonna be brutally honest. People who think that Nice and his nemesis aren't gay must be blind asf
You do realize Chinese censorship wouldn't allow them to be openly in a relationship right? This was the closest they could go with it. And tbh the romantic tension between the two was so obvious like come on...
so i might be a little obsessed
Btw, did Wreak follow Nice in the doomed yaoi death land or should we apply the "until I don't see the body he ain't dead" logic?
Bc no one mentioned that he died, not even in passing, nor did we see his body
I don't know if it's the translation but like...dude you are down BAD if you're fucking EMAILING him. the only thing you could do that'd be more desperate would be taking one of those creepy ass doves and tying a gotdam message to its leg and hoping it finds him
They were doomed from the start fr
THAT’S IT! JUAN JIE HAS GONE TOO FAR!!!! HOW DARE SHE BREAKS THEM APART!!!! I NEED TO TEAR THAT BITCH INTO PIECES!!!!
miss J really said forced close proximity, (corporate) arranged marriage, love triangle (?), fake death, hit post and send
ALRIGHT!
I'll be releasing a majority of these in pairs, in the order of their rankings ( and when they appear on the leaderboard ).
Wish me luck!! 💪🏾
This type of fame where "you become to hot til your not" usually applies to pop stars or idols. It would be interesting if this theme was also applied to Lucky Cyan story.
From her name alone, it seems like everything comes up daisies for her in the eyes of her fans, but the always doing no wrong in the eyes of everyone, including yourself.
One of her quotes:
"I want to become a normal person. One who makes mistakes. That's my true self, after all."
Makes me believe that it could be possible that her draw back of being "Lucky" is that she can't excite herself anymore and she loses parts of her inspiration to make music. Which in turn my cause the company to take notice and find someone that fits the bill with easier strings to make them perform to their brand.
I recently just rewatch the Disney movie Cars.
And boy, can I just say it has a major theme that fits perfectly with the thene in tbhx.
Because the scene between McQueen and Doc Hudson as the old race car revealed the news article of his accident that force him out of the season.
The hard hitting line when McQueen asked, "Why did you leave at the top of your game?"
And he answered, "I didn't quit. They quit on me."
The way Doc recalled how he had been out back together and ready to race again. Only to be pointed out, "You're History" and easily replaced with a new rookie.
The troupe of fame being short-lived and conditional is such a classic theme and true for every period. The movie became a sad reminder that the world has always been this way.
Ngl, I'm really hoping one of the characters, or at least one of the Xs has the same backstory.
The same theme is already hinted with Lin Ling's pinkie finger exclamation of Nice "being replaced". But both Nice and OG E-Soul's case is more opposite yet parallel theme where the company is adamantly trying to keep both "brands" in the game regardless of the consequences.
So it would be soooo interesting if they cover a story where the company instead easily abandon the hero the moment it didn't meet their expectations or made a single mistake, along with the aftermath. And if I'm not I'm gonna write one myself!
"The best medicine is showing that you care."
A Hero Card for my TBHX oc, Vital (Real Name: Libby Lee) and she is the Number 20* Hero.
Here is a somewhat rendering of the card border if you want to do this for your own TBHX oc. ☺️
Have Fun!!
My own take on why the Enlightener was trying to expose Nice would either be:
He found evidence of cover-up with Nice and the Hero Smile incident. Cause indications and screenshots of that has been circle both here and Twitter. Even LH0 has been teasing about dark turn Nice possibly committed.
He is a petty paparazzi troll. He was probably jealous of Nice's personage and status as a hero that he maybe believe digging up or fabricating dirt would bump his own ranking.
Hopefully we get more Villains similar, in motivation, trying to expose the Hero Commission being picked up by the Spotlight Organization. It adds a layer of dark gray, if Spotlight is mostly trying to expose the hypocrisy in the Commission.
By making heroes essential brands, and having their own villains on payroll within agencies, I certainly can say that it would be interesting if Spotlight is composed of the former Golden Age of Villains and they are feed up with how they themselves have been pushed out of the spot light.
*Ba Dum tss*
But real talk, we'll probably learn with time, probably in the episode focused on Hero Tower.
man why was enlighter even looking into nice. he wasn't just trying to dig up dirty laundry, he was framing it as exposing nice for the good of the public. he even looked into the mistreatment of contract companies by nice('s pr team). i feel like we all glossed over the part where treeman legit fucked over lin ling's previous company for no other reason except to cover its own ass after og!nice dies.
obviously enlighter is framed as the antagonist (and he also is the antagonist) but like what's his motive? he seems genuinely convinced that nice is this goliath figure he has to fight against, but he somehow never entertains the idea that nice could be just as constrained by his trust value as enlighter is, or that nice is also beholden to treeman as an employee. i'm so curious about this guy. what does he know about og!nice that we don't?
This looks soooooo FUN! I love making fan Pokémon teams!! 🤩
"It is said that Trainers with Victini always win, regardless of the type of encounter." - bw pokedex
yap + bonus w/ reshiram below
The enigmatic reigning champion, 'X' remains undefeated since winning the last Tournament two years ago.
would the tbhx characters still be heroes in this AU? would they keep their powers? is there still a trust value system? idk.
I was wondering about if X is the only one with a legendary/mythical but then I thought about drawing Moon with Hoopa
instead, to distinguish X as special, he's got a shiny Victini, which has never been distributed and is only possible to obtain by hacking. It also happens to match his color scheme perfectly!!
maybe he's got an action replay lmfaoo
He uses premier balls for his team to match his color scheme and because they look cool you get them FREE with a purchase of 10 pokéballs!
Two reasons why his other pokémon is Pidove:
1. Pidove is a common pokémon for common people, which matches with his salaryman alter ego. fun fact that I found on serebii: Pidove spawn in the Castelia City park, and there is exactly one clerk in the city who will battle you with a Pidove.
2. bird theory
If I do more, I was wondering if I should assign everybody a legendary. I'm also super super biased so I immediately wanted to stick Reshiram to X because Reshiram's my favorite legendary and happens to be white.
To be fair to myself though, it might work because Reshiram is the Truth and X is described as "seeing the truth of the world". Plus, if X wants to change the system then he might align with Reshiram who helps those who want to build a world of truth.
again, I'm extremely biased towards Unova. A disproportionate amount of my favs are from Unova. I was thinking Queen with Cobalion?
if I do end up doing the 1 legendary or mythical/character idea then I think E-Soul would either have Regieleki (fast electricity) or Genesect (old thing with gun)
I was debating whether to put this on my pokemon sideblog, but ultimately I'm just gonna rb it there i think
feel free to suggest stuff!
So this is one of the main things that have been on my mind after episode 4. (SPOILER TALK WARNING ⚠️ ‼️ )
After the Blankster’s defeat,God eye is taunting Nice/Lin Ling with how much of his “perfection” as a Hero image is and deep down is nothing but a miserable sham. And it's really getting into Nice/Lin Ling.
….until this happens:
Lin Ling's Promo proposal breaks the broadcast.
It is made aware that know one knows where the promo came from. Not God’s Eye, and not even Miss J and her goons, who have been trying to hack into the broadcast the entire time.
My theory is that X was the one who changed the broadcast.
But for what reason?
Well..
While everyone is confused by the sudden Ad, Lin Ling is completely enthralled by it.
It brings back the memories of his old self, his drive and passion that HE can be the hero not the packaged image of what the fans want.
That is what gave him the will power to break from the Nice personage, run to Moon, and claim himself as the Everyman’s hero.
(I’m sorry, I know his Hero name is something else but I can’t, I’m calling him Lin Ling from now on)
Now knowing what we know, some of the animation changes happen for a reason and are usually followed by a snap in the background. X has the ability to warp and control the essence and matter of reality. Not to mention he is supposedly a Vtuber or Streamer himself.
From what we see from X’s PV, his civilian self is the office worker in one of the Hero Agencies, Fomo.
His position in the company is yet unclear, but it DEFINITELY clear that he is able to move and use his powers somewhat undetected by his colleagues and the higher ups.
The means in which he could have obtained the proposal promo is:
He could have hacked and stole Lin Ling’s Promo directly from the Treeman Server or from Miss J’s Email.
HE HAS BEEN WATCHING LIN LING THE ENTIRE TIME!
I personally believe that both methods are possible, but why would Hero X choose this time to act? What does he gain by leaking the proposal?
My theory, he is trying to change or create a new renaissance of Heroes.
In each of the Trailers and PVs that feature X, he is seen changing and switching the narrative around. He is manipulating the perception of not only the belief of the people, but also inspiring other heroes within his board of fate to redefine the what and who Hero X can be.
Whether that makes him even more powerful or weakens him, he is resetting the Value system of what it means to be a Hero, focusing little on public trust but building it on the belief of the convictions of the heroes.
Well finally got that one out of the chamber. I might do one on which Hero in the story might fit which chess piece, but I'll hold onto that after E-Soul or Lucky Cyan's Arcs wrap-up
Shout out to @vaccoiI! I told you I was gonna mention X!
So I've been thinking alot after Ep. 4 (for....reasons 🥲) but opened up and brought attention of somethings.
One of them being that we get to see more of other Hero Agencies, glimpses of how they operate, and what each of their "brand" is for the Hero Commission.I'd like to dedicated this post on the info that we know and my on personal theories on them.
First off, we have the Treeman Group whose CEO is Mr. Shand. For their employed Hero/Villain rooster so far has featured:
Nice
Moon
Wreck
Firm Man
Blankster
Lin Ling ( new recruit )
Translated desc.- "a hero agency that makes good use of marketing to shape the hero's personality" (@tbhx_officialCN)
From what we've seen, the mangers and staff take in precaution on how their heroes are depicted on stage, their meet-ups with fans, as well as crafting a boosting narrative for their heroes trust values to grow in the eyes of the fans. They are not above bribery, coercion, and stunt casting in order to push their quota ( as seen by the actions of Miss.J )
Also from what I've seen and gathered, it seems that Treeman possibly owns much of the real estate and city development in this world cause much of their promo features a lot of residential areas and shopping districts with their brand on them.
So maybe them hiring people to play the part of villains is because they are the ones who are able to rebuild plus reshape how fans live and consume.
Up next is FOMO, which literally stands for "Fear of Missing Out". Their CEO seems to be this young guy named Zac. Their rooster so far consists of:
Loli
Ahu
Translated desc.- "provides ordinary people with opportunities to speak out and become famous" (@tbhx_officialCN)
So from their general description they seem like the mostly are in tune with what regular people are doing, and finding out what's new and fresh.
From the look of their office space, FOMO it's the most colorful and lively of the 4 agencies. It gives off what a lot of start-up tech, social media, and web HQs like Google and Youtube.
It's possible that most, if not all, of their heroes started out as Influencers or people that became heroes through viral moments on the web. Maybe their dark side is that their heroes have to keep coming up with more new, and exciting acts or content to please their fans to keep raking in Trust Value.
It could be more possible that FOMO has the same guide lines like YouTube, Twitter, and Twitch. ( Which would be pretty bleak ^^')
Third, we have Mighty Glory whose CEO is the mystery guy right here. Their rooster, as far as we know, consist of:
E-Soul
Ghostblade
Dragon Boy
Translated desc.- "The ace hero organization Mighty Glory has successfully cultivated many high-ranking heroes" (@tbhx_officialCN)
Just looking at the main heroes they have, this agency mainly focuses on acquiring heroes that have a wide-ranged of fighting and physical skills.
They also seem to have morally gray code and ethics. Some not against pummeling or killing those that they deemed "deserve it".
My theories on the CEO is that he is collects and sees their heroes how a Roman Emperor does with Gladiators. They are valued solely on their combatant attributes and merciless displays, but are kept in line behind the scenes like wild animals or slaves.
And lastly, we have DOS. I have yet to find what it the abbreviation means, but this is their CEO, Mickey. Their hero rooster, so far in the show, consists of:
Queen
Lucky Cyan
The Johnnies
Translated desc. - "DOS pursues high efficiency by acquiring a large number of small hero companies to grow stronger." (@tbhx_officialCN)
So it seems like they are the largest AND most powerful agency out of the collective 4. It has a very...Disney way of acquiring more heroes to cultivate it's company.
They have means to tap into different markets of branding for their heroes.
On one brand, you can appeal to animal lovers and sell marketable mascot plushies, and on the other, you can appeal to pop star and music fans who want to see their favorite idol to succeed.
Not to mention they hold one of the strongest powerhouses to take the title of X.
O_O!!
Disney Evil! This company is willing to obtain and cultivate their heroes so it can become the most controlling Hero IP out in the world (This CEO is Steve Jobs and Bob Iger rolled into one).
So if their was ever a chance or motive for these agencies claim to dominance. it's DOS.
So I hope you enjoyed my on-the spot, collective analysis and ramblings on the agencies so far. I'm still holding on to some other theories and little details I spot that I want to post soon (hopefully a shorter one ^^')
Alas, Xiao Yueqing has really become true to her name—she is now Lin Ling’s white moonlight 😔
