We know the twin love each other really deeply but bc of what happened and their own internal struggles they can’t put words into this AND IT BREAKS MY HEART💔.

Then, disaster.

Kevin Day got his hand smashed like a cookie by Riko and ended up with the foxes, bro was so stressed about everything that Andrew took him under his wing to protect him.

And then, another disaster.

Neil Josten tried to run away from everyone and got a exy racket smashing his stomach by a blond psycho short man, BOOM, join the foxes, BOOM, a millions problem got added since he was literally searched by the mafia for 8 years! And decided to drop everything for stick ball? Andrew and his gay ass did not manage to look away and after making sure Neil was not a threat (he actually is but against his will), he took Neil under his wing to protect too.

Neil is the epitome of that "god has let me live another day and I'm about to make it everybody's problem" meme.

One of my favorite things in AFTG is how the author deals with consent, particularly between Neil and Andrew. "Please" is such an easy go-to to make something not sound like an order or demand (especially for more aggressive characters, i.e., "Let me x/Do x, please"), but she completely took that off the table in this case. It becomes even more of a challenge when you take into account how Andrew’s bluntness can be taken as rude, but it's offset so well with Neil needing it spelled out to him because romantic interest go right over his head. Also, once a boundary is set, it's set. No questions asked. No testing it. And despite Neil being dumb as bricks to most things (bless his heart), most of those boundaries aren't even verbally discussed. It's either trial and error, observation of the other, or just left for the other to initiate. And there's no question to the reader that "no" or any sign of hesitation will be taken as "no." It's kinda refreshing to see it portrayed that way in media.

When Nathaniel is ordered to join the Ravens for a year to cover for a series of hits, his smart mouth meets Andrew’s prickly attitude and things get interesting.

“He really did some damage when he knocked you out this time, didn’t he?”

I feel like the only acceptable adaptation of AFTG would be a sports anime. It's the only medium that could match the intensity of Neil's inner monologs and not make it look completely ridiculous.

Also, when was the last time you saw a straight sports anime?

so still like drawing the aftg kid oc I've used a picrew to show what he looks like for the moment until the character sheet thing is done cuz I suck ar drawing and am using like a body base for one of thek and just some crappy ass thing I managed to hand draw by using a reference for the pose (I suck at drawing I'm awful at it so don't expect it to be any good)

honestly, what a power-move for neil to be an absolute asshole to the feds and get his way because of it. like damn, yes, let them know that you know how vital you are to their case. speak a different language so that they can’t understand you. call them out on their lies. insult them. go off my guy, that’s what we like to see

i am on my fifth reread of aftg so i can read tgr (not bc i don’t remember the plot but because it is as good excuse as any to reread them) and i will never cease to be insanely obsessed with these characters

I can't stop thinking about Andrew and Neil's path from fears and insecure feelings to the sincere shine of love in the eyes and trusting touches.

Imagine the development of their relationship like days spent on the roof. Minutes of smoldering cigarettes in cold palms and empty glances first; seconds of warm kisses on the lips and a smile illuminated by sunset colors then.

The road from meters between beaten bodies on cold concrete, to millimeters in the desired touches, which are now given by safety.

The most severe sunsets, overshadowed by pain and new scars, but still nearby. Another doubts and the inevitably approaching horrors of the past, but together.

Together — in the general smoke of cigarettes and changing weather.

Andrew and Neil learn humility and find peace in gusts of wind changing by the sun's rays. Allow caring amber nastures, smoothed by the enthusiasm of clear skies, to come to life.

Over time it becomes quite safe.

Warm, when Neil smoothes the knuckles of Andrew's brushes, distracting himself from watching another melodrama on movie nights. Touching the delicate skin is knocked on the heart, smoothing scratches and bruises before Minyard connects their palms into a lock, not breaking away to the very credits.

Cute, when they play with their paws, imperceptibly for others, alternately covering each other's socks under the table, relaxed listening to the conversations of the Foxes nearby.

Grateful, when Andrew lowers one palm from the steering wheel to the armrest, feeling Neil's nervous breath nearby, allowing him to gently draw patterns on his skin and asking to concentrate on caring touches and the living road ahead.

Confused, when they sit in the locker room, awkwardly touching their little fingers, hiding their palms behind the bench and losing the thread of the coach's monologue. The corners of the lips are led by a modest smile, and Neil fitters on the spot when Andrew slowly circles the line of his hands.

Relatives, when one demandingly touches the palm of the other's forehead, seriously measuring the temperature, noticing the red eyes and nose of his beloved. With excitement, stroking hot skin, putting it to bed under disgruntled grumbling.

In love, when Andrew, gently touching the tips of his pinkish ears, covers Neil's cheek, warmly lulling with his native gaze. The guy blinks in love, sticks his nose, pressing against his warm palm, and sighs very quietly, falling asleep with amber reflections in his memory.

Beloved, when they warm their hands frozen from the frost in a single breath, returning tactibility in each other's native touches.

Intimate, when Neil weaves his palms into Andrew's soft hair for careful kisses, sending impatient goosebumps on his skin. Seizing all disturbing thoughts with sensitive touches.

Over time it becomes too necessary.

How often does Kevin get confused about his own thoughts?

He rushes through painful memories, hiding from the present, accepting the pain of the past as necessary, as worth it, as the only familiar way out and escape. Deceiving yourself, loved ones around you, your true feelings and desires, hiding in the shadow of the victim.

Nostalgia begins to take up more time of life — thoughts, views, unspeakable phrases, melodies, prospects. Overwhelming consciousness every time Kevin frozes in moral estrain, comparing pain in his legs and hands to childhood. Painfully unfair, but native.

The childhood of every person is an integral part of the personality. Kevin's essence is the name on the tombstone, broken bones, screams in the bedrooms, lack of sunlight, lack of life, knowledge of the price of oxygen in the lungs.

Where he came, having overcome a lot. What he's been through and where he's now. What a long way Kevin and the people around have overcome to find themselves again in this unchanging moment of longing. Stupid, stupid.

Living in the present will never seem as exciting and valuable as the reflection of the past in scars. Like insane goals, through pain and exhaustion, obsession with the future, being invariably in the past.

Kevin doesn't know how to love the present. The value of the moment seems too intimate, too rosy to believe — to realize your entire existence. Too much.

Throwing from memories of past mistakes to the debilitating feeling of a white sheet, the need for a new sensational headline, the change of ink — never allow you to attach importance to the present.

Each landscape photo with crumpled corners, familiar melodies, movies and even phrases is associated with special particles of memory, often burdened with fear and pain, but deceptively felt happy.

Kevin's memory every time betrays him worse than anyone else. In moments of bitter weakness, in exhausting fatigue and defeats, the past always misleads the guy, replacing memories, mixing feelings, making him feel sorry and hate every hidden word, every thing that was abandoned, dreaming of returning and correcting every second.

Strict words through time seem like a sick concern. Cruelty, screams - the required attention.

Kevin can't stand loving his pain. He hates to need to desecrate his dignity, to want to return to nightmares to feel like a disaster again, so that feelings are hidden again, there is no pity in the eyes and there is a low reason to be unworthy.

Kevin wants to be needed, but the only salvation that can become a buoy in the endless ocean is his own dead past.

just thinking that for Andrew and Neil sunsets and dawns are an infinitely significant thing. a symbol that over time has become something important for both of them. they feel and appreciate it without needing any designation.

these are their sunsets and their dawns of feelings. It is a reflection of the passing rays in the beloved eyes and the brilliance of hope in the twilight.

these are burning sun touches on the moon skin and star scattering of freckles interspersed with scars.

it's peaceful minutes until late at night and calm silence until early in the morning. It's just their seconds when the world around freezes and it doesn't matter. where their new chance begins and the pain ends.

together. from common sunsets to common sunrises — forever.

Sudden tag: I respect Thea or why the Kevin/Thea relationship actually works in my opinion.

I know that many people don't like or even hate Thea, but I think Nora was being as fair as possible when she made Kevin's object of attraction an older, "independent", possibly selfish, and not in need of monogamy woman.

Muldani, like most of the characters in the trilogy, has screwed up in many ways, but there is so much negativity about her attitude towards the ongoing violence in the Evermore, although the same Kevin was one of the participants in this nightmare.

Literally each of the ravens is a traumatized person who tried to survive in the conditions available to him. And the conditions there were brutal.

Many can justify the actions of Rico (and I'm not saying this in a negative way, but as one of the main antagonists with his own motive), who was engaged in voyeurism and was the one who encouraged Kevin to sleep with Thea.

At the same time, she received a lot of hatred because of the misunderstood “fourteen” in Nora’s twitter or tumbler answers and her free spirit in relationships (reading carefully, Kevin became interested in her already as a university student).

It's just, you know, it's Kevin? Always under control, forever codependent. And then Thea appears - a strict girl, with a “rough playing style”, which later interests him.

Day certainly needs love and tenderness (and therapy), no less than Thea, but their open relationship, their “innocent little notes”, the thrown words “a little practice will make you better” - this is their way of avoidance, a way of not limiting their feelings to boundaries, in where they spent their childhood and youth.

I do think Thea and Kevin's relationship is sick, but this is the only time I believe it can work.

Two people who have gone through the same traumatic experience are automatically a complex coexistence.

But they know their purpose and realize where they stand in each other’s lives. Yes, there is no verbal concept of “love” between them, which can be observed even in the dialogues between Andrew and Neil. Nevertheless, they simply know each other’s feelings, believe and carefully cherish the moments they are together.
